My sister and I visited around three weeks ago and bore witness to a truly mystifying exchange. We had just walked into the shop and had been looking around for under a minute when we overheard the conversation occurring between the older woman manning the cash register and the customer she was ringing through. Customer: How are you? Cashier: (silence) Customer (thinking she has not heard her): How are you? Cashier: (deep sigh) Customer: (awkward silence) Cashier (with great irritation): I'm not sure why people do that. Customer: What? At this point, my sister and I are exchanging glances. Cashier: Why people ask 'how are you?' Do you really care? Customer: (stunned wordless as the cashier takes her payment) Readers, the awkward silence in this little store was deafening. I could not bear to stand by watching it happen, so I spoke up. Me: She's just being polite. Customer (visibly relieved): Yeah. The cashier did not seem moved by this. At that point, my sister and I walked out. We could not believe the simultaneous hilarity/awkwardness/complete rudeness of what we had just seen. Yes, I understand that 'how are you' is often a platitude in nature, but it's basic etiquette not to respond in such an astoundingly rude way - let alone to someone whose money you are taking at that very moment! Why would we want to give our money or business to a place that has openly hostile staff? It's a shame, because the store is a lovely, fascinating little place, the kind you don't come across too often. I'm sure that this cranky, wretched old broad was the exception of the staff there, not the norm. At least I hope she was. Maybe we'll come by again next time we're in town and see if she's had an attitude adjustment.

I am always thrilled to return to one of my favorite Seattle gems! Thankfully, it hasn't changed much over the last 20 years. I'm excited to share magic with my 7 year old son, and there is no better place in town to get simple tricks, props, mind game material, and so many books! My favorites include the vintage magic books and booklets, the celebrity photos, and the classic photo booth to commemorate your Pike Place Market adventure! There is even an Elvis fortune telling machine! Geoff is always awesome and attentive, even as the phone rings and tourists come in for quarters. He is a great performer and salesman, making time to show us a few tricks. This shop is one level below the main level...and is a must see. Highly recommend! *Pro tip- If you are watching THE fish guys next to the bronze pig, go to the stairs on the right, go down one flight, go into the door on the right. The candy store should be on your right. Go past this, down one flight of stairs and the magic shop will be on the left side of a large hallway.

Never had such a disappointing experience at a magic shop. The shop's staff isn't helpful when you contact them. Traveled over halfway across the country to visit it, only to find the store impossible to find. Pulled up their website to find the following statement: "WELCOME Thank you for visiting our online store! We’ve done away with our traditional cart based store and are focusing on mail orders to better serve our customers. You can email or call us to place an order. We will continue to send our featured products in our newsletter, which I encourage you to sign up for here so you don’t miss out on our favorite products." This indicated to me that another brick and mortar store had closed. When I contacted the staff by email, I was told it was indeed open. Unable to find it on Pike Place anywhere in the 1500 block. Lots of markets, fresh foods, neat shops, restaurants, but couldn't find the Magic Shop. Total waste of time, money and travel. If possible I would have rated it a minus 5.

My two young magicians love this store. Both of my boys perform at Pike Place Market and one of the shop workers made a special effort to see their show. Afterwards, she let my oldest son pick out anything in the store he wanted because it was his birthday and he did a fantastic job performing. The man who works there did a great job teaching my boys how to encorporate a hat trick into their routine. Not only is the hat trick cute but it has also made them better gentleman. Thank you for all the kindness and support you've given to all the young magicians. You've made a world of difference.

Be sure to stop on by here for the vast and eclectic goodies and coin operated equipment available for your quick dose of entertainment! The staff is very knowledgeable about the wide variety of illusionist "magic", and has quite a few good stories to share in the subject. Gladly answered my million of questions on the variety of sleight of hand tricks, and even shared a few history lessons! Most days (if not all) one of the shop owners will entertain the patrons and children with a few of his own tricks and entertainment, in exchange for a bit of praise and applause of course!

The photo booth was broken, but that didn't stop it from taking our money first. That was probably the best magic trick they had in the store. The employee was having an in depth conversation with a customer, which is cool, but he ignored every other customer in the store and there were other people who had questions to ask. At first I thought the high prices were illusions, but alas my eyes were not deceiving me after all. Overpriced props and beginner kits, we found the same pen and teller kit for $20 less on Amazon.

This store is great. It is one of the few functioning and good "brick and mortar" magic shops. The staff is friendly and cares about what they sell. It also helps that everyone is a working magician and understands the effects and gimmicks. A lot of magic shops sell cheap tricks that honestly give magic a bad name but this shop has items and more importantly books that any professional magician would be more than happy to have.

This store offers mostly beginner level magic, and stuff for the layman. They have a few advanced options, but the selection is rather limited. I think it's more of the fact that they just don't have the space they would need to sell a wider variety. The owner is very knowledgeable and always happy to assist you. This is by far the best magic shop in the area, but sadly does lack offerings found in other stores I have been to.

The Market Magic Shop in Seattle is a hidden gem for magic enthusiasts. It's filled with an impressive collection of cool magic tricks and has a nostalgic, historical vibe. The staff is incredibly friendly, especially Bill, who provided us with top-notch customer service and made our visit truly memorable. Whether you're a seasoned magician or just curious about the art of illusion, this shop is a fun and must-visit spot.

The shop is on the 4th floor of the market building between Pike Place Gifts and Master Craft Leather; note that if you enter from Pike Place you're on the top floor and need to go down. Wide range of stock includes juggling gear, curiosities and practical jokes as well as magic ranging from simple tricks to more advanced material (Tamariz, Banachek).

Last year my daughter's 8th grade class took a field trip to Pike Place. When the students were allowed to buy things, many of them were buying fake cigarettes at this shop. When my daughter asked the employees of this store if they really thought selling these items to 13 year-olds was appropriate, they kicked her out of the store. Classy.

  • American Healines

This Shop should have a sign on the door that says " WARNING... will KICK CUSTOMERS out of the store if they share a magic trick with someone in here!" I got kicked out of A STORE for that!!?!? Absolutely pathetic and rude!!!!! Nice way of treating your customers. never shopping there again!

  • Emily Nicole

I could spend all day there. There are few magic shops around. This shop charters to all types of magic and illusions. As well as props. For seasoned magicians to new ones. The employees are super knowledgeable and very excited to share their information. Will definitely be back.

Visiting Pike Place market in Seattle, is Definitely recommended for anyone who has not yet been. Taking our kids here is such fun, because there is So much to see and shops to forever entertain. I would however recommend visiting on a Sunday or early, so traffic isn't so bad.

A classic shop worth finding in the maze of Pike Market. Jonathan is a great guy, quick to show you a trick and happy to chat about magic. He has a nice stash of vintage stuff and a bunch of gags and gifts for the kids. Worth a stop and be sure to check out his books!

  • William Gao

Rude and hostile owner. Was going to make a purchase but changed my mind after the owner started yelling at us and threatening to kick us out for reading aloud a product label. There was no one else in the store and she was accusing us of revealing magic secrets???

  • max wehl

When I went to this magic shop my personal experience was grate. Any questions I had were immediately answered, and if I still didn't understand the employee working there would be happy to give a demonstration of the trick. Honestly this is a great classic place.

  • Tim Turner

This is a wonderful place, or a place full of wonder. Go here, see a trick or two, buy one and practice until you can do it in your sleep. Then show your friends! When they ask for more repeat the process until you're a true magician.

  • ƦҿḍḍҿΧ

Awful, I went there on a vacation and it seemed pretty cool but the people who work/own the place are rude and yelled at a young child who could figure out how do these dumb tricks. The stuff they sell is kinda cool though.

  • Hugh

Great place to browse magic kits, and other curious items. The owners are great and run demonstrations. There's a penny rolling machine just outside which requires 1 penny and 2 quarters. Definitely worth a visit

  • Dawn Gordon

We stopped in for the penny pincher machine and decided to look around. I was surprised at how much there is at Pike Place Market. So much to see on such little time. We'll be coming back again!

  • Adam Cook

Some speciality magic tricks and old time posters. Neat stop for young magician to see new tricks. Could be clead up and more organized which might help know what is available.

  • VAE Labs

Lots of variety. Very friendly staff and really knowledgeable. Demonstrated lots of magic to help us decide what to buy. Just be polite and they will reciprocate!

  • Skyl Wingate

great store! all the epmloyees have been amazing to me always willing to show you a trick and help you with whatever you need or have questions about!

  • B

Don't bother looking, you won't find it. No store front and all the doors in building are locked. Knock all you want, no one is coming to the door.

  • Isaac Camacho

Perfect example of how great things come in small packages. This shop is small but has an amazing amount of cool magic tricks for kids and adults!

  • eli west

Whoa! No mask and speaking down to his employee. I spoke up and he started harassing me. I took my biz elsewhere. Don’t spend your money here.

  • caitlin spaan

Tiny shop tucked beneath the market, counterman did an amazing trick for my kids, no purchase required. They we're flabbergasted …

  • Troy Martin

Lots of small cool stuff hidden in the corners. And there's probably a secret door to another dimension somewhere in this small space.

  • Jason Nevins

Very kind, friendly, and patient staff willing to explain how things work and find ways to get new people into the craft.

  • Nick T

it was really cool the man behind the counter didn't mind showing me the decks and opening one to show me how it handles

  • Anthony Young

Gotta make your way downstairs to check this place out. Spend some quarters as well on the nostalgic machines.

  • Nicole B

The man working the front counter introduced me to the coolest trick, I am so glad we stopped in!
