I was hankering for a muffin, so I googled bakeries close by. This wasnt exactly near me at the moment, but i thought i’d pop in nonetheless. I was not disappointed. It’s a small space off 6th ave on Greenwich St. They didnt have a huge selection when I came in, but they all looked scrumptious, so I went for what I usually love - brownies & cookies. I thought they were peanut butter cookies at first - this is what i always home in on, but they were butter pecan cookies, and oh my♥️! They were delicious! I highly recommend it. The dark chocolate brownie was great as well. They arent cloyingly sweet. Just right enough to satiate my cravings. They have beverages to pair up with your pickings, and they do have other choices of goodies besides the sweets, so do drop by and try them out. They have a few indoor and outdoor seatings, and I assume there is wifi because there were patrons working away on their laptops. Knocked a star off because to go inside, there is one step, so it might not be as accessible as you would probably like.

I love mah-ze-dahr bakery and go to the midtown location almost every morning before work as my office is across the street. This morning I went to the Greenwich Avenue location to buy my usual latte. I ordered an extra-large hot latte (which I always get) and was very specific about wanting the extra large size. The woman taking my order asked twice. I paid for the latte and by mistake they made the smaller size. So I said that I had asked for the larger size. The barista then replied "You didn't pay for the larger size", and then made me pay the extra dollar and change, explaining to me that the larger size is $6 and change. I found this quite rude, as it was their mistake not mine. I asked for the extra large, they should have just added more milk and not bothered to charge me the extra dollar+. I'm giving 1 star today to the Greenwich location because they blamed their mistake on the customer.

First of all...AMAZING! I don’t live in NY. I ordered a bunch of stuff and had them shipped to my daughters and myself for Thanksgiving. So...We all got the marshmallows! Let’s just get that part out of the way. HA! One shipment had the granola and the dark chocolate explosion cookies. The next package had the Mah-Ze-Dahr bars, the 3rd shipment had the pumpkin loaf. Finally, I got myself the Autumn box. So everyone got their items within two days. The packaging was beautiful. We had our family Zoomsgiving where we all tried the decadent treats. It was so much fun and we loved EVERYTHING. As soon as I’m done with this review I’m ordering more for Christmas. Yeah...I’m done with this review. :)

Best thing I ever ate: brioche donut with vanilla pastry cream. Holy cow. I came here on a whim just really to get a cold brew, but was pleasantly surprised at the spread of high quality baked goods in their case. I asked the person at the register what they recommend, anything. He said sweet or savory? Sweet! He said the brioche donut, I said DO IT. And wow, was I rewarded. Super perfect tender dough FILLED with vanilla speckled pastry cream. I also ordered a cold brew, forgot to ask for lite ice but seeing as though this place isn’t a trap, there was a good amount of cold brew in my cup! I am so psyched. So happy. Thank you!

Mah-Ze-Dahr is one of my favorite bakeries in all of New York! I allow myself a monthly visit fortheir mocha almond croissant (I would get one every single day if I could). Their croissant dough is perfection – flaky, buttery, layered goodness. This most recent visit, I ordered a mocha almond croissant and pimiento cheese danish to-go. It was a rainy December morning, and in my rush, I forgot to grab the pimiento cheese danish after they heated it up. An employee RAN DOWN THE STREET FOR A BLOCK IN THE RAIN to deliver it to us. Their service is truly above and beyond! P.S. The cheesecake is divine too

Mah-Ze-Dahr is one of those bakeries in New York you have to try once so I dropped in for a visit. The shop was clean, cozy, and inviting with a decent but not too large selection of pastries and cakes. I ordered the vanilla bean brioche donut as the cashier mentioned it their top seller. It was indeed tasty, I appreciated the use of real vanilla in the filling and light donut batter. Overall, staff here was nice and there was no line. The coffee is La Colombe which while I do like I wish they had something more unique and original to the shop itself.

Can I just say that if your looking to taste heaven youve found it here. I am blessed to have such a wonderful tasting chocolate cake in my life. This cake taste like a warm chocolate hug. It's soft it has NO chemical taste...some ppl know what I mean. It's SUPER rich! So rich you can hardly finish it but you have to because it would be sin to waste. The employees are very kind and their other bakery good taste amazing as well however, their chocolate cake takes the number one spot on my taste buds. Would I marry this cake...the answer is yes.

This bakery has THE BEST chocolate cake. What makes it so delectable is that it's just simple chocolate cake made with high-quality ingredients. Once the sweet and smooth chocolate ganache hits your tongue, you know you've had a bite of heaven. The chocolate cake is moist and not too sweet, so you'll definitely want to take bite after bite of this one. Around the holidays, they appeared at the 2018 Bryant Park Winter Village. I got their popular brioche donut, which SURPRISE TO ME, had light and fluffy vanilla pastry cream in the center!

  • Noah Henyon

I've tried the savory scones, honey cake, olive oil tea cake, chocolate explosion cookie, choux vanilla pastries, jelly filled doughnuts, and the brioche doughnuts, chocolate matzah crunch and all are high quality, rich, and with flavors from the natural, fresh ingredients. The famous heavenly cheesecake is lighter than your traditional thick cheesecake with a more complex flavor. The Devil in Ganache chocolate cake is unusually rich and moist in dark chocolate. The staff is always very friendly and helpful.

I love this bakery! Mah Ze Dahr probably gets the best brioche donut in nyc Unlike lots of greasy and dense donuts, brioche donuts here are fluffy, lightly dusted with sugar, and filled with amazing custard cream (I even wish I could have an extra scoop of that custard ) The indoor dining area is comfortable and clean. Whenever consumers left, the waiters would clean up tables with alcohol. The outdoor seating looks modern. Once the weather gets warmer, I’d like to come by! Definitely 5 out of 5✨✨✨

  • Giovanna Oseguera Tapia

I tried their signature brioche donut, and I’ve got to say- I was pleasantly surprised! It was a hot hot day and I wasn’t particularly craving a pastry, but this was the first time I’d walked by when they weren’t actually sold out so I decided to get it anyway. Despite not being in the mood for something sweet and heavy, it tasted so good! The vanilla custardy filling was perfectly textured, the donut was soft and pillowy, and the cinnamon sugar dusting made it the right amount of sweet. Soooo good

Went at 4pm on Saturday and they were out of the brioche donut and cinnamon roll so I went back on Sunday morning. There was a line outside right at opening at 8am but it went quick. The chocolate chip cookie, vanilla choux, and brioche donut were all alright. I didn’t find them to be anything special but the chocolate explosion cookie was really good. Definitely my favorite followed by the cinnamon roll. The customer service here is great and it’s definitely worth trying out!

We've always loved this bakery, but Mah-Ze-Dahr really knocked it out of the park for our wedding. Umber helped us with our wedding cake -- dark chocolate cake with chocolate and passion fruit mousse and a chocolate glaze -- and it was incredible! Our faces cutting it say it all. Delicious, everyone raves about it. Great, seamless experience! Definitely visit this bakery when you're nearby -- you'll love anything you try! Photo credit: The DV Image @thedvimage

Mah-Ze-Dahr has always been a favorite of mine, I just love everything about this place the aesthetic, the amazing pastries, cookies, sweets, and coffee literally! I’d definitely say it’s one of my top 5 cafes in ny, would go and try their pesto danish, or the chocolate explosive cookies, or Slice of Devil in Ganache Cake; all of them are fruitful options! I also want to highlight on their very friendly baristas, very nice and talkative people!

  • Alexandra Dékány

We went to this place multiple times already, first had a hazelnut nutella brioche, it was very-very good, the taste was absolutely on point, not too sweet, and the toasted hazelnut on top is insane! The devil's chocolate cake is good too but could be less sweet, and the seasonal pumpkin cake was just ok. What I absolutely recommend is the cheesecake, it has a slightly lemony taste, it’s so fantastic. The staff could be more friendly, though.

  • J R

I went to the Brookfield place location and was amazed at not only the quality of service and attention I received but also how delicious the quiche and beignet donut was. The coffee was also good. Their beignet donut is soft and perfect, it also has a nice and light filling that melts in your mouth. The quiche is also soft and delicious. Both taste like it was made fresh by a professional chef! Definitely my new favorite!!

I was just here a couples weeks ago and I used the restroom before I made my purchase because I have a child and now all of a sudden there are no public restrooms. Nasty lady with a nasty attitude didng Care that my child was literally cryiiiiing because she had to go. I came a long way just to buy pastries and cake. I left with nothing. From another borough

I love Mahzedar. I can never decide between their chocolate tea cake and croissants! the tea cake is slightly dense yet fluffy. The croissants are flaky, soft, and buttery. All of their pastries are made fresh with high quality ingredients. If you go be sure to order a slice of their chocolate ganache cake - it reminds me of the ‘Bruce Brogtroter’ cake from the movie Matilda!

  • Tony Stypinski

Exquisite pastries, wonderfully delicious coffee and a charming owner! The granola is a best seller and no wonder why!

I've been on a mission to find the best croissant in NYC, and so far this is my favorite cafe for a croissant. They are so flaky and buttery, and they have savory options along with the common sweet options. The turkey gruyere croissant is delicious, get it warmed. They also sell dog treats that my dog is obsessed with. The owner named them toro treats after his own dog.

  • Andrés E. Gómez V.

Staff was friendly and helpful :) The place is quiet, beautifully layed out. The food looks like out of a photoshoot, and tastes just as expected. Oh god. The savory scone could be one of the best things I've ever tried. The brioche donut was great, the filling was heavenly. The coffee was a bit too bitter for my taste, but not enough to take a single piece of star out.

  • Ostap Kirichenko

One of my favorite spots in NYC for everything pastry. Excellent croissants and other creations based on croissant dough. I love that all of the items I tried are perfect sweetness, which doesn’t overkill you with sugar. And their espresso drinks are perfect! In addition to indoor sitting, they have couple outdoors tables and benches to enjoy your coffee and pastry.

  • Frugal Cyclist

Paid $5.17 for a cappuccino that’s not listed on menu. Small cup but nice flavor & aroma. Pastry selection is a bit limited. Looked like most customers came for the coffee. Cozy spot but unfortunately no restroom for an indoor cafe. There is also outdoor seating which appeared quite comfortable under shaded umbrellas. Service was quick with no wait…

  • Lara Reichman

everything i've tried here was SO good. the atmosphere is elegant but laidback, there are so many lovely, different kinds of pastries. their brioche donut is really tasty and the custard is so delicious, you can see the flecks from the vanilla bean. their choux also has the same custard and it is unreal good. can't wait until they have soft serve!

  • Sarah Ziegler

This place!! I come here every time I visit NYC & it's always great, but today was exceptional. I ordered a cinnamon roll & an egg sandwich. The cinnamon roll was not too sweet and I got to pick which slice I wanted. The egg sandwich came with a spicy sauce and I was given a whole extra cup of it! Overall, great food, great coffee, amazing vibes.

A New York City Must Visit! Completely obsessed with their croissant dough and sweets! Recommended Drink: Iced Pumpkin Cider Recommended Savory Item: Mushroom & Leek Croissant Recommended Cookie: Chocolate Chip Recommended Sweet: Mah Ze Dahr Bar and the Brioche Doughnut Recommended Cake: HEAVENLY CHEESECAKE Worth every dollar!!!‍

Mah-ze-dahr offers life changing pastries. It’s hard to find bakeries with this consistent level of service and quality, even in NYC. I leave happy and grateful every time I come here. But be warned, I have to limit my visits to only once a month for my own good - otherwise I’d spend my entire paycheck here and start missing rent payments.

  • Gap Flann

Happened to stop by for coffee on a whim. They have a limited selection of pastries and slices of cakes that all look quite tempting. Got a slice of super moist carrot cake, with probably the best cream cheese icing ever. The cake and icing were not super sweet and heavy. Can't wait to try their crossiant. Keep up the good service.

  • Mony Kiem

A donut made for the sophisticated crowd. It was elegant and delightful. Unlike many other donuts, it had hints of sweetness but didn’t overwhelm you with sugar. The filling was piped perfectly throughout. The texture soft and reminiscent of a croissant. Each bite was satisfying. Albeit a little expensive, it’s worth your dollars.

WOW! A pleasent discovery in Village. I walked -by this bakery so many times. I missed a lot. Food are delisious. Pastry above and beyond. Also they serve my favorite La Columbia coffee. My dear fan club members, add this place to your "Must to do/visit in lifetime list". You will never ever regret. Sit, eat, drink, enjoy.

The coffee is great but the people are even greater! Love the service here and everyone behind the counter makes my day everytime I stop by. Thank you!

A really cute bakery, super bustling with delicious pastries. Everything is made fresh which makes the space smell WONDERFUL! The chocolate explosion and gingerbread cookies were SOOOOO GOOD. the money bread croissant, left me wanting, and the sufganiyot (jelly doughnut, essentially) was unexpectedly delicious.

  • JJ

The staff is super sweet and friendly every morning. The coffee is great and consistent. The price is very fair for NYC. I splurged on a brioche donut this morning (I’m gluten free) and it changed my life. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was worth the cheat. I will dream about it!!!

  • jeremy cho

Walked 30 mins to scout for this place for my breakfast and was underwhelmed. Not as raved and life changing as reviewed. The espresso was the best I had though in New York. I ordered the chocolate explosion cookie, vanilla choux, mocha croissant and Bellini to sample and they were average.

  • Andy Ng

Much praise to this cafe bakery offering sophisticated, elegant, yet approachable pastries. Many classics can be found, each formulated to perfection. The space itself is beautifully designed with plush, elegant, and comfortable furnishings. Swing by for some delectable and indulgent bites.

  • Eric Finkelstein

A friend and I shared a slice of chocolate ganache (as delicious as it looks), chocolate tea cake (light, more subtly flavored), and vanilla choux (the reason for our visit, my more critical friend commented he likes the bibble and sipp version more, but still said this was overall 5 stars)

  • Caitlin Mattos

The most exceptional coffee & pastries, prepared by the most wonderful people. Since opening, Umber and her team have served the neighborhood the most delicious offerings. It’s our first stop every morning we are in the city, and the place we miss most when we are away. Absolutely the best.

  • Neyra Madiou

The interior of this place is so amazing, the wall paper, floors, I loved it. Now for the most important part, I had a brownie which I love, chewy, moist yet not overly fudgey, perfect balance with the draft latte. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you for the experience and inspiration.

  • Stephanie Pekic

This is my favorite neighborhood spot for coffee and/or a quick bite in Greenwich village. The baristas are all super cool and genuine, and it’s a great place to sit outside for a coffee with a friend. My faves: iced oat milk mocha quad shot latte and the smoked salmon croissant :)

  • Mark Janas

Great place. The baked goods, coffee, atmosphere, and staff are all top-notch. The Turkey Gruyere Croissant (warmed up!) is a masterpiece! Trying the egg biscuit today. On a recent busy Saturday the staff handed me my order before I ecen could get to the register to pay.

  • Michael Ortali

Friendly staff, fantastic pastries. Ordered a chocolate croissant, and it was spotless. Buttery, flaky, airy - exactly like the ones you get in France. Price is more on the high end, if you sign up for their loyalty program, you get $5 on your next order.

  • Tra Chan

Beautiful little bakery. Cheesecake is super delicious with a chocolate crust. The plain croissant I had was a bit greasy, especially with lot of oil sunk at the bottom. But overall is still a high quality croissant that you can't find easily in the city.

  • Angie Mazen

Excellent bakery and cafe. The croissants must be the best I’ve had in the city. The coffee is high quality and very strong. Friendly, nice ambiance. I’m rating it 4 stars because it does get very crowded and they don’t have a restroom for customers.

  • FG

Exceptional Bakery. Easily the best bakery in NYC. The MZD team have worked out the perfect ratio of sweetness in pastries. The brioche donut is phenomenal. The chocolate cookies, cakes and brownies have that deep rich cocoa mouth feel and flavour.

  • A K (NYCPerformanceTennis)

Phenomenal pastry spot! Cheese cake is to literally die for--I had three strokes for one yummy bite of that cake. And yes, it was worth it! Solid coffee, cozy ambience. Be prepared to shell out a couple of massive $$. Again, totally worth it!

  • Erica Fedukovitch

A bit pricey, which is expected for the area it’s located in. However that doesn’t matter when the sweets are delicious and unique. Their cold brew is great! I highly suggest trying the brioche donut and chocolate chip cookie from this cafe.

  • Savannah Morris

With my first visit I had the granola, simply amazing. Following that I got the refillable granola for home This morning I felt like trying the coffee and the Mah Ze Dahr bar, again simply amazing. This place is truly good!!

  • CMQ

This is a high quality neighborhood bakery offering many sweet and savory options. Enjoyed a day working on the patio outside eating the famous chocolate explosion cookie. While IMO not the best cookie in NYC, still very delicious.

  • Kelsi Y

Folks, get the heavenly cheesecake!! The Brioche Donut is great but not as standout as the cheesy baby! But I'm sure you'd like the Special texture than other mediocre ones. Cool place to take friends or partner to hang out with!

  • juyvs a

Extremely rude service, the "large" was actually a small. The drink was disgusting, and not filled to the brim. Do not waste your money here, go to the Starbucks on 55th if you want a good drink, along with good customer service.

  • A L

1.6.18 - good pastries, good Americano, and friendly service. I like the interior color scheme. There's a Black Card membership for $300 per year where you get an in-house pastry for free every day for a year. Not a bad spot!

Wow! I’ve been dying to come here forever and I am so glad I did. Their donut brioche is to die for. Absolutely fantastic. Will be coming back. Place is surprisingly spacious, with additional space in the back of the bakery.

Mah-Ze-Dahr is fantastic. They have a great selection of treats and drinks. I went out of my way to go there this morning so I can have a little Friday treat after my lunch and grab one of their wonderful yogurt parfaits

One of my favorite bakeries in town! Always so welcoming and friendly. The espresso here is so good! And every bakery item they make is fresh and delicious! Thank you guys for being wonderful. Can’t wait to come again!

Delicious and moist olive oil cake. Came by on a Saturday evening and it was a great decision… you can tell all items are made with high quality ingredients and are fresh daily. Wish I could have tried more things!

  • Ellen

Friendly service and good pastries. There are a couple of seats in this location. Tried their cranberry scone which was just ok. I'd recommend their other pastries like their brioche doughnuts or pain au chocolat.

  • Douglas Hanna

Great local bakery with excellent pastries (the brownies are a favorite) and good drinks. The staff is always friendly and there is rarely a line. It’s better than other places nearby that have much longer lines.

  • Leddy Fdz

The people who work here really make this place awesome. Always so welcoming and kind. One request- please add some more flavored (caramel) and iced options. The vanilla is awesome but some variety never hurts :)

  • ernesto castelan

Had the apple pie. Great flavor. Friendly service. If you want to get an inscription, you have to call beforehand. They do not do it on site. $70 tax included for the apple pie.

Went for my first time today (February 20, 2021) and bought a piece of the chocolate cake. The cake pieces are "gummy" and "rubbery", as if some odd stabilizers were put in them. Thoroughly disappointed.

  • Jon Jarvis

Ideal spot for a more Italian style coffee (stronger and shorter). We also had a brioche doughnut and almond croissant, both delicious and worth popping in if you're looking for a tasty bakery snack.

  • Li

I absolutely recommend their cheese scones. They are not so hard, like in other places in NYC, but savory and delicious. I thought before that I don't like scones :) Vanilla cream puffs are good too.

  • Fureall A

Excellent coffee!.. we had the espresso with milk and my daughter said the iced mocha is to die for!.. the cakes and cookies are delicious too… plus the stuff is super friendly and great ambiance.

  • Hương Trần Liên

my favorite place for croissant in manhattan: fresh, buttery, beautifully laminated and fabulously flaky. often sold out by lunch time during the weekend so get there early if you want to try one.

Quite possibly the best bakery in Manhattan. The sandwiches are amazing. I love the turkey and cheese croissant and the curry chicken salad. The cream puff pastries are also delicious.

  • Megan Ung

A friend recommended this bakery to me and it did not disappoint! They have unique pastries as well as classics. I tried the old fashion donut as well as an earl gray ice cream.

  • josephine dano

Everyone is always so nice here and I can always count on the most amazing pastries and delicious lattes. The hardest part is making the choice of which pastry to get! SO GOOD!

  • Keith Wahl

We have become regulars in just a few days! A tasty cup of coffee and a couple of pastries each day have been tremendous starts to our vacation days. Don’t miss this spot!

  • James

We came for the cinnamon rolls and coffee but stayed for the curry chicken sandwich! Definitely the best item we had here. The salmon breakfast croissant was also good

  • Harshit Mahajan

True to its name the place serves one of the best cheesecakes. The cheesecake is light, balanced sweet level and you can feel the crumbles of hung cheese in each bit.

  • Ian Hayes

The baristas are so nice and make the best damn coffee in NYC!! Also, I love the music jams they have on. A great mix of foreign artists as well as American.

  • Sarah

One of the best bakery in NY. Can’t emphasize how delicious their cheese cake and corrosion are I absolutely recommend this place

  • Gloria Cheng

Beautiful! Blueberry muffin was light, banana bread was good but didn’t blow us away. Coffee was made fast and still tasted great. Service was excellent.

  • Lucy Huang

Monkey bread is amazing - not too sweet. Claims to have one of the best cheese cakes in NYC, imo it's OK, more dense / creamy. Quiche is also delish here

  • Lori McCaskill

The pastries, coffee, and staff are wonderful. Unfortunately they no longer have a restroom available to guests so the environment is less welcoming.

  • Ai Takahashi

Everything is so good at this bakery! Stuff are very friendly and love that point system for a free coffee. And the coffee is also one of the best

  • Regina Vertiz

Good ambiance, the spiced donut was OK. It was a bit dry outside but the vanilla cream filling saved it, it was creamy, smooth. Simply delicious.

  • amulya valiveti

Loved my tea and the portion that it came in, the staff is very friendly and the vibe is so good! Love the location and aesthetic of the place !

  • Tee

Not bad. Not great. Cheesecake was very spiced which is weird. They also let people dine in without wearing masks so lost a star for that too.

  • Manasvini Sethuraman

The bakery has very good croissants and scones. The coffee is good as well. The staff is friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

  • Alex Beaton

A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Lattes are delish and every pastry I've had is phenomenal. My fave is the monkey bread croissant.

  • Ews

A good New York cheese cake.. to my delight, I recommend it... I only had the cheesecake which totaled $7.62 for a slice.. it was good!

  • Stephan Herard

The chocolate explosion cookie was ok. The pumpkin apple cider was great though and my gf loved her hot chocolate and brioche donut

  • Concetta Morabito

$5 for a small scone. That's like $1 a bite. For a SCONE. Is anyone paying attention to sudden exorbitant coffee and pastry prices?

  • Apurv Sharma

Fantastic place! It's one of the best bakerys we visited in NYC, the staff is very nice and everything in the menu is outstanding!

  • Meghan Heintz

They got rid of their bathroom and direct you to the library that doesn’t open till 12 which isn’t very helpful for a bakery

  • Mike Brown

Oh the cheesecake is amazing.. I tired the lemon muffin too, it was good.. you can taste the fresh ingredients used..

  • Mubashar Ahmed

It is so Mah-Ze-Dar!!! Great ambience. Clean bathrooms, we had the Devil in Ganache and loved it …

  • Chris Shimmin

Good amount of pastries and good coffee and tea. Also there's a place to work nthe back.

  • Cindy Ng

Very good pastries. Everything is fresh and well made. Cookies and choux are the best!
