It’s free. Which is great. However don’t go in expecting a half day of fun interactive learning for kids of any age. The INVISIBILITY exhibits: - A room that senses movement and projects it on screens with accompanying sound effects. Pretty cool and fun for a bit. I’d love some info for kids to read about how it works or something to encourage further knowledge - A wing with a number of exhibits that test your ability to spot fake news or deepfakes. And also understand the perils of modern data harvesting by companies and privacy concerns. This was a really good exhibit for teens in my opinion and the info was well presented. - A barely interactive section on climate change with touch screens. Honestly my family are passionate about climate change issues but this exhibit was uninspiring. The touch screens really didn’t nail the fun but educational combo I’ve seen work well in other exhibits. They were barely interactive and not that informative or aesthetically interesting. - There was a First Nations interactive screen which was barely interactive. I think a more creative approach to interaction would have encouraged children to engage with it more. - there was an exhibit that analyses your facial features and predicts your mood and personality. The exhibit was quite good however there is missed opportunity here for example showing how racial biases exist in these sorts of algorithms and what other ethical problems might arise. Also a shame it doesn’t do more with your face profile than just do a silly squish of it at the end. - An exhibit that proposes to visualise biometrics of a famous football player which looks cool but lacked deeper explanation of the visuals that could engage teens more than. “Wow interesting animation” then moving on - a poorly done exhibit on geology. The narration was not exciting for children of any age - video screens of First Nations poetry. This was fairly good and simple, if you like poetry it will appeal. Some people spent 5 seconds here. Others 5 minutes or more.

MOD is presented as a place that is educational for children and I initially was really enjoying my time here with my wife and two young children. I'm all for educating them in the field of science and I encourage them to form opinions and wonder about the scientific world. What I wasn't ready for however, was the room upstairs that was themed around the upcoming referendum about the voice to parliament. In the corner there was a tablet on a pedestal that had two videos on loop. One of the videos featured an indigenous "comedian" that was constantly dropping the f bomb in his stand up routine. This was otherwise a small, quiet room that was set up with pens and pencils on tables that included post-it notes for kids to draw pictures and write messages to visitors. I found myself constantly having to strangely raise my voice during parts of the video when he was swearing just so my kids wouldn't hear the obscenity. The video was transcribed on screen and the f bomb was censored but the audio wasn't, and it was clearly audible in this small, secluded room. This is totally unacceptable for a place that is marketed as an educational venue for kids of all ages.

can we experience pleasure 24/7, and would you want to? I got a sneak peek at the new exhibition “Hedonism” Before opening night. It is a study of pleasure, what it is, how we experience it, why we experience it and so much more. But like all MOD exhibitions it is not just informative bit completely immersive, an experience of touch and sound and light. From the complimentary booth where total strangers tell you how amazing you are to the ticker game making exercise pleasurable. It is a full body and mind experience. There are virtual reality tours of artists and a game about the modern dilemma of consent - involving aliens bodies. I loved the experience. Value for money? It is free and amazing so definitely. Easy access? Check opening times as they are a bit constrained in the mornings. But hey a great cafe to wait in. Close to the centre of the city at Uni SA. Recommend? Totally Go again? To this exhibition - yes. probably a couple of times. To MOD - absolutely. Oh and there is a hall called “Pleasure Arcade 5000”

I work with people who live with a disability, and therefore transport them in a larger transport. None of the parks mentioned on the website were suitable for large van loading/unloading. There is no street parking available nearby (when you have motorized chairs, you need to be close). We had to cancel our plans and do something else. POOR FORM, MOD. The better bet would be to park near the Entertainment Centre and get the tram in. This should be emphasised on the website for larger vehicles. I hope this helps others so as not to be completely disappointed.

It's free, it's informative, it's often controversial and it's located in the heart of the CBD. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area. They change the 'theme' every 6 months or so. Some have been outstanding, others mildly interesting. I love the different methods and media they use to inform the public of contemporary issues. I should point out it's more directed at educated people (not necessarily in the field of choice, but for people who like to learn or be informed in an unusual way), so families with kids or people who don't take an interest in study may find it boring.

A little bit small, but still a very nice museum. Good for children and also adults. There is a gallery especially about geography and climate change, in which people can learn about things such as how much the Earth’s temperature is rising, how much that will impact fishery, how much rainfall is reduced or increased, etc. in an interactive way. Technologies are integrated to make the lessons more interesting. Cool interactive Earth globe, which many children may find attractive and want to explore.

Kids like the MOD very much. MOD at the UniSA is Australia's leading futuristic museum of discovery, provoking new ideas at the intersection of science, art and innovation. With dynamic changing exhibition programs, MOD inspires kids about science and technology, showcasing how research shapes our understanding of the world to inform the future. MOD is a free science experience. It’s Australia’s boldest and South Australia’s only interactive public science and creativity space. There are seven purpose built gallery areas over two floors, a cafe shop and lecture theatre.

Great afternoon visit to the MOD in central Adelaide, a short 5 mins walk from the train station. This is a very nice Modern Art/Discovery museum located on two floors of a nice modern building part of the University of SA. We got to discover the Seven Siblings exhibit, which used lots of Tech and AR to discover the near future of a family from Australia, the staff/guides were helpful and polite and the kids loved all the interaction with the Tech. If the weather is poor and you want a few hours of entertainment for the family. This is worthy of a visit.

  • Stephanie Reyes

Perhaps I'm being too harsh here, but there were 5 exhibits that I got through in an hour. As a museum AND art nerd, I'm disappointed. I usually spend days in museums and this to me seems like a place you take your kids to touch a few animated screens then cover yourself in their free sanitizer and leave. It didn't feel organised and the art was chaotic. No signs to read or information about the artists/their inspiration/interpretation of the art. Very very random.

This is a pretty cool place ever that i have been to Adelaide There are lots of things you can do here and it's all about the future things. The Seven siblings areas are very fantastics. The tip for everyone who come here for the first time is dowload the "Seven siblings" app because this app is very useful. This app is use for scan the numbers of each places you visit there and it will show you which sibling is match with your character. It will took you 1 hour and a half - 2 hours to visit all the museum.

Omg! How did I not know this was here?! Nerd mum here, totally the target market for this lol! My kids absolutely LOVED our visit today. Every exhibit made them make that wow face that surprised kids do, and not much does that now they are older (9, 10, 11). We are so looking forward to coming back for your next exhibit, and super happy to have made it (on the closing day!) to this one. Fabulous work guys, thankyou for having this fabulous activity for the kids of Adelaide!

  • Rebecca Amodeo

Excellent layout and exhibitions. Staff at every corner were very helpful. Lots of interactive activities too. I took my toddler who loved it, although I'd suggest leaving them at home if you want the time yourself to fully immerse yourself into the messages behind each exhibition - it's certainly aimed at an older audience. I've recommend it to all my friends to go and see.

An interactive gallery for the young and the young at heart. It explores the artistic side of Australia past and future the best place to bring your kids or your date. There you explore the great creativity featured around Australia and learn about history that also takes a closer look at culture and its aboriginal heritage. The gallery delves on the past bringing it to the digital age, and there are so much more with their next featured shows.

  • K Syed

Excellent effort by Uni SA, students and lecturers. What an amazing experience for the whole family. Loved each exhibits. Extremely informative and fun filled. I suggest these kind of exhibitions should get promoted and advertised on a much bigger platform, so that everyone will experience and enjoy it, along their loved ones. Schools should organise excursion for their students. Its a knowledgeable and interesting exhibition. Keep it up

  • April S Rolfe

Visited with our 2 kids & although the exhibits were interesting there were far too many people which didn't follow covid restrictions & there were bus loads of kids meaning the interactive components were not usuable. Cafe was closed on a weekend which is very strange, we would have love to grab a drink & souvenir & spend more time but it just wasn't worth it. Really disappointing.

Brought my daughter and my niece and was very impressed. My niece loved the interactive floor exhibits like the swimming fish. The robot exhibit was very impressive and we enjoyed building our vehicles. Once the program is finished and you race as well, I think it will be fantastic. There is also a Sound Room, and lots of interactive areas for all ages. To that off with it being free and you can't go wrong. We really enjoyed it.

  • Tony Virgara

Really disappointed by this, thought it was going to be quite interesting and informative, albeit quite a let down, I'd have it as an overrated activity. I appreciate the work from the uni students however it's quite dull. May be a good activity for the kids but my mate said his children found it dull also. Brilliant work by the students! From a visitor prospective, there's better things to do around town.

  • Sipher Ken

Small but interesting exhibit! The whole around room screen are interactive to educate people sea pollution and beautiful reef in danger. The interactive massive earth display all sorts of environmental information visually to raise awareness for our environment. And it’s free! No cost at all.

A surprise visit here, and well worth it, lots of interactive activities and for all ages. We will go again. As its a hands on experience, there are several hand sanitation stands, but these only work if they are regularly serviced, unfortunately, 2 of 3 stations were out of hand sanitiser. Simple fix, manager, manage!

This place is so fascinating and educational, I had recently came here on a trip and really enjoyed the astronomy section, featuring a giant light up globe with could be controlled to switch to the planets of the solar system with the provided tablet. The atmosphere is very modern and welcoming, quite suitable for ages 10 and up.

The museum itself is not very big but there is a lot to discover, observe, read and play with. Upstairs hide a room with small robots you can operate, and a brilliant sound room where you get to create sounds in a unique way. Went there with my 2 kids (5 and 8yo) and had to promise we would come back so we could leave!

  • Karen Mctackett

Well, this was an experience. I had lunch at the cafe before I headed in for the exhibition. I got myself what I thought was a cheap lunch and was surprised at both the quality and quantity. Also did a great chai latte. The exhibition was fun and highly interactive. I do recommend utilising the ap with any exhibitions.

  • Michelle Gu

A museum with a focus on science, tech and innovation as opposed to nature and history like the the typical museum. Quite a few interactive and different exhibits to see however is quite small. Overall a clean and neat place but I would not put it on the “must see” list if visiting Adelaide for a few days.

  • May M

Very interactive experience. My personal favourite museum, it has a few exhibitions, not extremely extensive but every exhibition is of high quality provokes deep thinking and learning if you're willing to participate! I love how it connects to the community and feels fun for both children and adults!

  • Josie Kirkwood

This is a superb museum! One of my favourites! I especially enjoy the exhibits combining science & art. This museum always inspires me whenever I visit. Highly recommended for all lovers of art, design, science, environment. Lots of interactive exhibits also. Great place for both adults and kids.

  • Kat L

It was good to see a modern technology/science museum in SA as we usually rely on interstate and overseas visits for these places. It wasn’t big, but enough to spend about 45 mins wandering around the areas to look, watch, interact. Lovely staff and nice modern clean place.

  • John Hancock

Good exhibits but due to the University context some lack professional finishing or have issues in use. If your child is easily sucked in, the museum is great but the exhibits are definitely targeted at high schoolers, as much as my primary-aged kid enjoyed them.

  • Euan Clarke

Watching the countdown to extinction through the window after I’ve just done a nightclub shift at three am really is a sobering experience. Other than that it’s a cool little place, the chair you can listen to podcasts and the ai based scanning pieces are cool.

So great for the children. We like that it changes every six months or so. Miss 11 picked it as her birthday celebration idea which I thought was lovely. I would highly recommend it to anyone but particularly late primary to high school age range.
