"I’ve used to go to Asian market all the times for Asian vegetables and foods"
"I like this place"
"The staff is hard to communicate to if you cant speak their language"
Most of the time, there is no shopping cart available outside. They have small red carts inside the market that they don’t allow customers to wheel them to our cars. I have wrist pain, tendinitis. I cannot carry many bags to my cars. I talked to the lady, who was standing at customer service area. She said why I complain about shopping carts, she told me to to go out side and wait for the carts tobe returned from somebody. Oh, oh. I thought I was going to get a reward or trophy. Why I have to wait to receive a favor from someone. If you want to shop at Asian market, I recommend you to go to Đại Thành supermarket. They have people who always outside to collect the shopping carts and put them in place for customers. Moreover, the employees are very nice over there.
I love to cook. Most of the stuff sold here is either expensive or unobtainable in Santa Cruz. So this place, despite it's slightly... unpolished east Asian vibe (ie products sold out of the box they came in, cramped lines, and very little help in the store,) I still love it. It kind of reminds me of living in Thailand. Used to come here with my ex. My dad brought me back and he was slightly disappointed. He said it wasn't as good as it used to be. I am think he built it up in his head. Though I can see liking it less than I do. I can even see it's crazy selection being a bit overwhelming... Who knows.
I’ve used to go to Asian market all the times for Asian vegetables and foods. Last week, I stopped by and bought some round eye of beef to cook pho and I asked a butcher there to help slicing the meat. I was happy with everything until I noticed the man handled my meat with his bare hands (no latex gloves as he should). Now I don’t know what is the FDA requirement for food handling at grocery market but this really turns me off. I hope the store manager should take notice and correct this problem right away as it will scare off other customers.
I like this place. It's a bit messy and not always clean, plus it often gets very crowded, but everything they have is fairly priced compared to the usually big supermarket chains in town. Their fruits and vegetables are fresh and often less than half price compared to what Safeway and others would charge. They also have a massive fresh fish and meat counter and you can get some great chicken wings or steak for a very fair price. Again - I don't mind that it's a bit messy here at times since I always find what I need.
The staff is hard to communicate to if you cant speak their language. Finding ingredients on your own is pretty easy like most grocery stores but this one has very small isles so you will be bumping into people or waiting your turn to get around. I only go to this market because it's close. also the parking lot will give you a lot of trouble as it shares with many other stores in the plaza.
This place gave me very ,very bad impression, especially those workers who speak the language in Vietnamese are terrible,no manner, not really well trained. Another thing is the price on most vegetables items are lightly higher, even at pork & beef section ,prices are much more higher than Đại Thành market. I believe Đại Thanh market will be my only one Best place for my groceries to shop.
Always fairly busy which means some items may be scarce or sold out, so get there earlier in the day. Seems not as clean as some other local markets. A bit cramped at times, especially when it's busy but the location is convenient and generally plenty of parking. Prices are more reasonable. Hanging meat shop next door that's usually busy but I've never tried it.
In general, the constellation of bad mannerism is unexpected; specifically, staffs are unprofessional and unhelpful. Addiontally, the denied of access to my service dog is a whole new level of animal and human cruelty, and extremely incomprehensible. It is important to note that this would have been a ZERO STAR REVIEW had it been an option.
I think this is an okay grocery store. They have good deals on items depending on the day. Make sure to check that you are purchasing stuff in good condition. If you buy a case of mangoes and get to your car and realize one of them is rotten they probably won't take it back. Definitely a tough return. Them Mangoes were cheap though...
Keep in mind CASH ONLY. First time coming here to pick up a duck order for my father. I didn't have any cash on me, and had asked a random stranger if they had Zelle or Venmo, that way I can pay him. Unfortunately, he didn't but he was so kind enough to pay for my order. There are such KIND SOULS OUT HERE! Thank you so much!
One of the flagship Asian markets in the Bay Area. Huge variety of items. Parking is almost always impossible. Lion is losing its status to a growing number of other Asian markets like Marina and soon Lee’s ( of Lee’s sandwich fame) supermarket. Markets that are cleaner, wider aisles and better displayed products.
Still same place as it was 20 years ago. I remember coming here as a little kid with my parents all the time, getting really big bags of rice and fresh meat from the counter. It brings a lot of nostalgic feelings when I pass by the place. But this place was pretty cool and still is.
Generic Asian supermarket, good deals on produce and meats. Grandma's are aggressive in produce and at the fish/meat counter, be prepared to be cut in line. It's a granny... can't do much about it except laugh....okay granny I know your days are limited, I get it.
I sent my husband to buy a box of moon cakes here. When he returned he told me at checkout, the cashier opened the sealed box and proceeded to say no returns. Very unprofessional. How am I supposed to gift an open box of moon cakes?! Never will shop here again
This place has stink smell. The employee is rude and impatient, will yell at you if you don't understand his English with heavy accent, especially the meat (pork/beef) department. I don't think they got paid well so vent their angers to the customers.
If you look for merchandise or anything from Asia, this is good place to go. Variety stuff from Asia available in this supermarket including fruit and vegetables. Many Asian spices also available here including from Indonesia (my country).
This grocery store has a very large assortment of asian groceries, seafood, meat and household items. However, out of all of the Lion grocery store chains this is the filthiest! I make sure I use a hand sanitizer before I get in my car.
Your typical asian market that has most grocery items associated with the culture but the place is in need of a heavy remodel job. Place is filthy and lacking organization when compared to standard american grocery stores.
Place smelled. It was dirty. And the customer service in english and Vietnamese was terrible. This store simply shows and proves how little they love customers. This place is not worth spending a single penny in!
So I picked some frozen items. The cashier looked at it that it wasn't fresh and told me to go get a fresh one. She threw the ones I picked away,! That's awesome and they got my loyalty for that act of kindness
Wide selection of groceries from East and Southeast Asia. The meat market also has a wide variety of cuts commonly used in Asian cuisine. The fish market smells like the usual fish market so I usually avoid it.
Got my plums in brine for my plum soda and really good French bread baguettes. The little hot food store next door on the right side of Lion's has pork and duck to melt you into comfort food heaven.
Great selection of ethnic groceries, this Lion is slightly stocking differently than the one on Saratoga, closer to Capitol Expressway. Different just like how the 4 costcos in San Jose differ!
Oh, my goodness! Picked a couple fish, had them fried... mmmm good! Bought some lemons, aloe vera drink, and roasted coconut cans! Five Stars …
It is not very clean Asian Super market and the service is not very helpful and not friendly neither. Not to go to this place again. It is not the only Asian market in the area neither.
Has lots of Asian foods, produce, and seafood. However the store is very dirty and unsanitary. Bad management. Rude employees. They won't allow you to take boxes from the store.
I like that you can pick up certain things here. Like rice wine and specific products for Asian cuisines. I haven't found the place usable for necessity but have taken a look.
This market is near to my Appt. If you like Asian foods and people. You can go there. I don't like this much because of bad smell, high prices and low quality of products.
Workingman's groceries and such... under fairly good control of stock. Finding parking is difficult at most times. Also the mundane things are completed in timely manner.
They often "mis-advertise" their products causing confusion especially to the older folk who don't understand any of the asian languages and are extremely rude.
Has chinese, korean, Filipino, foods, fresh fish and vegetables. Prices are lower and quality better. Minus, need to keep the store cleaner and parking lot.
Great place tons of great products for authentic Asian cuisine and they have a restaurant inside too and great seafood options …
Little run down but great prices & wide variety of fish options in their seafood department, overall good options if searching for Asian fixings
This place smells like pork anus and Curry. Horrible Asian area of town. Unfriendly cashiers Everytime. 5.00 minimum purchase on all cards too.
Awesome place for Asian food and plenty of sea food choices. Live fish, crabs, oysters, clams, and fresh meat too. Dont expect great service.
This market is always crowded whenever I go here. Price is higher than some Asian markets but they have good selection of different products
Huge selection of Asian food supplies. I got sliced bamboo shoots, black soy sauce, and dried black fungus. Guess what I'm making tonight.
Ok to quickly get some vietnamese groceries item but it is dirty and not as good a selection of item as other like Ranch 99 Market, etc.
Nice large Asian grocery with a good selection of products from across Asia. Clean and we'll stocked including a large fresh fish area.
Pretty old and dirty asian supermarket. Nothing caught my eyes nor my wallet. Unless you know exactly what you need, don't bother
I had to search for things myself cuz they were very busy I suppose but anyway I found most of the things that I was looking for
Beware when you ordering fry fish. They fry raw and cook fish together at the same time . Food poisoning waiting to happen
It was amazing. My family often comes here when we take a trip to San Jose. And the fish, so delicious and crunchy!
Your typical Asian grocery store there is nothing really special about this. Parking can be a pain on the weekends.
It have many Asian products that make by Vietnamese and Chinese. However, there is a minus for the see food area.
Fresh fish is a good option here. Different chinese flavored noodles can aslo be the reason for shopping here
Great Asian food collection. Get all our Vietnamese food supplies from here. Average customer service.
A place to go especially if you are from another continent.Africans try it,for sure will be surprised.
I just don't know why if you buy stuff here, it's more expensive than other stores ( around 1 -2 $ )
I love shopping in non traditional American supermarkets for their different and variety foods.
Lots of Asian products that you can find with decent price. Free fish frying is always nice.
20% more expensive than Dai Thanh. Go to Dai Thanh for Apple Pay support and cheap prices
The food is fresh, the price is acceptable, but the local atmosphere is not clean enough
I order their manga tango, it's delicious, I like their creamer, very rich and creamy.
People driving so crazy in parking lot recommend go some where else. …
A great Asian supermarket with fresh products. I love crab and lobster they sell.
Seafood is fresh. The rest not so Much. There is musty smell of preserved stuff
Good selection of products. It can get a bit crowded so go early when it opens.
They had what I needed . so I was very happy. Nice people working there too.
I wonder if they can do something about the smell of fish in the atmosphere.
Great selection of produce and asian products. Try the BBQ place next door!
Love the fresh salmon head deep fried and the big shrimp that was on sale.
Rude vietnamese lady in customer service - not recommended to shop here
One of the very few places were you can find longan and rambuten fruit
A bit too dirty for me but have better prices than most asian stores.
Good service. Found fish. Got it fried. Picked up a few more things.
Been shopping here for 15 years. Great deals on frozen shrimp!
I liked the variety of food however, the service was average.
I like the way when they clean the fish...very quick.....
Very good selection of Asian products and fresh seafood
Love the variety and diversity of Asian food selection
Is a asian grocery store. Most items are good price.
Nothing special... Normal Asian Grocery store...
Prices r little bit high. Location r good.
Will always come back here no doubt!
Great manager. Market not so clean.
Good price not a rip off store
Great market. Lots of stuff.
I'm okay
