I have been to Les Saj Restaurant multiple times this summer, and with each visit, I find myself falling more in love with the place. Nestled in a little strip mall on Saint James Avenue, this Middle Eastern gem never fails to deliver an exceptional dining experience. The star of the show at Les Saj has to be their shawarmas - truly a gastronomic masterpiece. The succulent, perfectly seasoned meats, combined with fresh vegetables, homemade sauces, and warm pita bread, create a divine harmony of flavors that lingers on your taste buds long after the meal is over. The shawarmas here are not just a dish; they are a culinary work of art. But that's not all; the addictive fries at Les Saj are a must-try. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these golden delights are a perfect accompaniment to any main course. I could easily make a meal out of the fries alone! Pair them with one of their delectable dips or sauces, and you've got yourself a tastey experience... The falafels, hummus, and salads are equally delightful and executed with precision. The falafels are expertly spiced and maintain a perfect balance between crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The hummus is velvety smooth and full of flavor, making it an irresistible appetizer. Their salads, crafted with fresh ingredients and a medley of textures, provide a refreshing and healthy contrast to the indulgent main dishes. Aside from the exceptional food, the service at Les Saj is top-notch. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to accommodate any special requests. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, they make you feel like a welcomed guest in their home. In conclusion, Les Saj Restaurant has rightfully earned its reputation as a Middle Eastern culinary haven. Each visit leaves me thoroughly impressed with their consistently delicious food, friendly service, and inviting ambiance. If you have a craving for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, this is the place to go. Whether you're a shawarma enthusiast, a falafel aficionado, or simply an adventurous foodie, Les Saj will undoubtedly exceed your expectations. My summer adventures here have been nothing short of delightful, and I can't wait to return soon for another gastronomic journey through the flavors of the Middle East.

I had mixed feelings about this restaurant. Service is counter service. This is more a fast food restaurant, but with equivalent pricing of other sit down, full service restaurants in it's genre. The food was good. By itself, if you don't compare it to the other places in the city it's solid. However for value there are other places that I would get much fuller on that tastes as good or better. I did like the variety you get on the platter. They named themselves after the saj flat bread I believe, but I found if you are eating it on its own like on the platter they dry out really badly. If it's a pre made item then the moisture from the item makes it pliable. So if you get it on its own and don't eat it right away, it's not that great. If you like dry then this may be for you. The person serving us was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in what we thought of the food. The green salad was bland (I'm ok with bland) but the beet salad was fine for flavor. Their falafel fell into the middle. Would eat again if I were there, but I have another place I like more. Same for the hummus. The meats were done well along with the rice. If I had liked the bread more I would have maybe gotten fuller? My other complaint about the platter would be the small amount of sauce they give you. It seems disporportianate to the amount of food you get. I'm not sure if they charge extra if you want more sauce, nor did they suggest we ask for it if it isn't enough. So why a 4 and not a 3 with my complaints? I like it enough that if I was in that end of the city and craving this kind of food, I would still choose to go. It's just not the best deal or my first pick right now as it stands.

I usually have good experiences ordering from your restaurant but this evening, January 3 @ 5:50, I had witnessed a staff very poorly executed work habits. As someone with 20years experience in food, seeing this woman brush garbage food into the service area where food is being prepared made me not want to come back. Seeing this same woman prepare food with hands that were not washed after she cleaned the back wall, that made it even more questionable. I had ordered the Shish Tawouk, order of fries, and attempted to order Chicken and cheese filled saj, but the fellow acting as manager on site said that was not longer an options so we ordered plain saj. As I watched the staff preparing food, one woman, a shorter woman with a head covering (this is during the 5-6pm shift on January 3rd), I saw that she didn't wash her hands and proceeded to brush dirty food and garbage into the clean food where menu items are prepared from. She then threw our saj bread onto a dirty rag and then got upset when I asked for another one to be prepared. Other than a bad attitude, several health code violations did occur. I just hope the couple who ordered the Platter for 2, just minutes before us, doesn't get sick from her actions. I had also talked to the guy who took our order and let him know I was watching and said she needs to be trained properly.

I’m not even sure I have written a restaurant review in my life. But boy this place deserves one. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy middle eastern food. We saw the ratings for this place on google and it was close by so we had to try it! What a disappointment. There is legitimately no flavor on anything. We both had the chicken shawarma platter. I’m not kidding, when I say the chicken crumbled when attempting to pick it up. Not sure how you screw up chicken thighs to this extent. The fries were from frozen, appear to be seasoned, but I think red glitter would have more taste than those fries. The salad was half brown, soaked with like diluted vinegar, and had legitimately no flavor. The hummus was just sad. No seasoning, no garlic flavor, no oil, nothing. Let’s not forget that garlic sauce, which I’m pretty sure could be used as wallpaper paste - why is it shinier than a new car? What on earth. This places NEEDS SALT. Nothing is seasoned. Also the place just looks dirty when you walk in. Beaten up tables and chairs. The prices are INSANE. Let me repeat, INSANE. I cannot believe for two dishes my wife and I paid $45. I feel like I just got robbed.

Summary: Pros: Good Food, Courteous staff and attractive ambiance. Cons: Value of money is questionable. Fries needs extensive improvement. So today we decided to try the middle eastern restaurant in town. The weather was pretty nice and the parking outside was full so for a minute i was like perhaps it’s not a good idea but when we walked in, it was not packed. Once you enter, you can pick the menu before seating down. Once done with the menu, you order there and pay upfront. The guy on the counter is pretty courteous and will call the name of the item and you can pick it up from the counter. The shawarma was great, sauce was even better but fries were a total turn off. If someone from Les Saj is reading this, do something about it. The fries were thick and probably frozen when they were fried in hot oil. The outlook was nice but they still needed time for the inside to be better and cooked. All in all, it was a good experience. If you haven’t been there yet, give it a shot.

I’ll start by saying this is one of my fav restaurants in the city, I order the mixed platter for two, once a week. Everytime I have ordered it over the last year the food has been fresh and portions have been great. The last month I’ve noticed a complete drop in quality and portion size and inconsistency between the two locations. I understand if the portion change is a result in food costs rising, however I think most customers like myself would be willing to pay the extra to get better value rather than feeling short changed. Finally, in terms of quality, I’ve noticed inconsistency in that as well. Sometimes I’ll get old sticky rice and chicken/beef that feels like it was cooked the day before and other days it’ll be fresh. I hope moving forward you’ll try to be more consistent. I still love this restaurant and hope it’ll improve moving forward.

Authentic middle eastern food with efficient and friendly service. Wide selection of choices, so there's something for everyone, even the pickiest eater. The mixed platter says it serves two but there is easily enough for 3 or even 4. Prices are very reasonable. The establishment is pristine, even offering a bidet in the womens' washroom - first I've seen in a restaurant in Winnipeg. Plenty of room to sit down and enjoy your meal. As noted by other reviewers, they still don't seem to have any strategies in place to differentiate which order belongs to whom, especially when people order the same thing. I'm surprised they've been open as long as they have without having that ironed out. Regardless, this is easily in the top 2 or 3 middle eastern restaurants in the city for selection, quality, and taste, but when combined with their customer service, I'd rate them number one.

  • J. Kehler

Phenomenal Middle Eastern restaurant. Very good portion sizes and the quality is excellent. It is a Hybrid restaurant in that you have to go to the counter to order, but the meals are served to your table. We had the Chicken platter ($11.99) , side of rice ($1.99) and a Muhammara ($3.99). These were easily enough for two adults. The rice had the traditional tumeric but also raisins, which added a nice underlying flavour. The chicken was dry, which is how it should be. The Muhammara was the real surprise and we will be back just to have that again! Best described as a Middle Eastern version of a filled crepe, the blend of olive oil, red pepper paste and tomatoes accents well against the "pancake". My only complaint is that there isn't a refillable soft drink machine, but with our water being continually refilled it didn't matter much.

  • Aiden

I’ll be honest, I used to love food here but recently the portions got smaller and the packaging is not suitable for takeaway at all specially the fries with those open small cups inside the plastic bag? And compared to the price for a takeout meal that was a smaller portion than what we used to have here. The donair temperature was warm to cold and not hot as usual and the customer service needs more attention in this regard when we asked them to make sure the donair is hot enough and they insisted it was hot! Quality controlling of food is major for any business especially during expanding to more than one location. All the best guys.

I don't understand how this place got amazing reviews. It was disappointing. I ordered the Shish and Lamb platter and I definitey did not enjoy it. Waited so long for the food even though we were the only ones there. The lamb was so dry and hard. Definitely way overcooked. The hummus wasn't very good either. The garlic sauce was so bland, and the red paste all over the flat bread was so bitter and salty. Maybe it was an off day but I don't think I'll ever go back. I've had really good middle Eastern food before and this one isn't it.

Excellent place for kabab. This is my second time here and wasn't disappointed at all. Was very happy with the food and service. We ordered mixed platter for two. We specifically enjoyed the tawouk and donair kabab. Price is very budget friendly. Definitely our go to place when we're craving for kabab platter. Their fries are pretty amazing too. My only concern is the heating wasn't on and it was cold inside and I kept my jacket on. It's possibly because they cooked right there and it maybe too hot for them. Completely understandable. It's halal.

If you are crazy in love with Middle Eastern food like myself, then this review is definitely for you! Introducing you to ‘Les Saj Restaurant’ a gem in Winnipeg, Canada - where you’ll find amazing food to meet all your kebab & meat cravings. The platters come in a very good proportion, a 10/10 for presentation and the price is pretty wallet friendly too. A real taste of Dubai right here for the Winnipegers! • The dish here : All in Mixed Platter (Price 23.99 CAD) Chicken, Donair, Shish, Tawouk & Lamb kebab skewer which comes with yellow rice, very soft bread & their famous hummus.

  • Ben Smith

I really like their food and joint! Washrooms are clean, clean environment. I tried the fallafel platter with fries is roughly $13.55. The people working here (especially the taller boss) has awesome welcoming service that feels genuine. The only thing i wish they could change is have an option or ask for them to make the falafel into the wrap instead of putting in the ingredients on the side and make it yourself. Its fine for dinning but for takeout id like to open and eat rather than construct the food myself. But i did not ask if they could do that yet so 4/5.

  • K

Good food, good flavor. I gave 4 stars cause all my garlic sauce was at the end of my donair, which made it pretty dry until the last bite.. Update: I had to lower star rating after my recent visit for lunch, brown lettuce salad and soggy chicken shawarma, and not so friendly service..

Reminder to self not to come back. Heard good things about this restaurant and came with high expectations to only leave disappointed. Had the platter with an assortment of meats. Meats had no flavour. Fries seemed like they were from Costco but seasoned. Salad was awful, rice was hard. Pita was bland and hard. The yogurt and hummus dips did nothing for the meal. Save yourself a trip and head to Baraka on Main!

This place is amazingly awesome. The staff is great, customer service is awesome. The food you have to try it to experience it, telling you won’t do you any good. For me to try them out I ordered the Mixed Platter. Waoo to much food for one person for sure. As you can see in the photos I posted. Will I come back here? Let say it is my favourite Middle East Restaurant in the city for now because everyone is a 5stars: - Clean washroom - Clean and cozy seating area - Customer service amazing - Free Parking - great place for families too.

  • David P

This is one of the best middle-eastern places in the city. The shawarmas are really good, especially the lamb one. Platters are great too. Portions are generous. Food isn’t super healthy (compared to Yafa Café a short drive away which is less oily and more herb/lemon tasting). But, the meat quality here is really good, lots of fresh parsley and salty pickles in the shawarma that give it rich and contrasting flavours. I’ve ordered through skip the dishes and food is packaged well and orders arrive in tact and still quite flavourful.

  • Ade

The food was great and the staff was friendly too, I would definitely go back! The music, the ambience, and the decor really come together nicely and you can easily imagine it being a shisha place in the evenings (it's not though). The only downside is that it can get very smoky in there, their vent over the grill is undersized or has dirty filters, either way the whole place just fills up with smoke especially if they're quite busy. Don't stay in there too long. Like I said, the food is great so you can always have it to go!

  • Hoora RM

It was a nice atmosphere, friendly and nice staff. They have Halal meat offered in their meals which were good. overall I can say as a person coming from middle east the food was ok. not really exactly the same taste of back home tho. Fries was wonderful though :D we ordered: "Arabic Chicken Shawarma" and "Beef Donair" with 2 pop in can drink. size of the meal was ok not too big and not small. I am not gonna go there again tho because I can say overall the price of the meal didn't match with the expectation of me of the meal.

A great experience with our friends here. The staff were very happy to help us celebrate our friends birthday by storing the cake and even put music on! The chicken shawarma was amazing and can't wait to try other menu items! Thanks for everything!

Delicious food and the friendliest service in town! I favour the Chicken Shawarma Platter that is served with choice of fries or rice and hummus and salad (choice of fattoush, beet, potato or taboulie) in one of the most beautiful plating presentations I've seen. Their hot sauce, garlic sauce and sweet sauce are all delicious. The saj bread is lovely as is the Donair meat. Very quick. It's clear they take great pride in preparing and serving delicious food and being very welcoming and friendly!

  • Ben Jiménez

Let's put it this way, Les Saj is doing some of the best Mideast chow in Winnipeg these days, hands down. Their garlic sauce is a revelation, as is their hot sauce. Lots of great menu options in a lovely location. The top notch food aside, the staff are the epitome of hospitality, warm and inviting they made this novice feel welcomed and took time to help me figure out what to order. Be sure to not skimp out on dessert, their baklava were heavenly. I look forward to many repeat visits.

  • Tenzo

A little pricey but delicious! The chicken and donair were kind of dry but I liked the garlic sauce and portion size they offer. The wrap had a smokey-mouthwatering aroma, the garlic sauce complimented the beef and other spices which really brought out an umami flavor. I paid approx $17 for a mixed shawarma + diet coke, just to put it into perspective of the expense you can incur at this place. Personally I think its a little pricey for their shawarma wraps, but the quality is there.

  • Nassim Zand

A friend took me there to taste the Shawarma, and I did not regret! good food. great Saj (bread), and tasteful yogurt. The platter portion is enough for two. I really wish they were not using plastic cutleries.. I regret ordering platter immediately after seeing them. So newt time in Winnipeg, I go for a wrap! :)

Les Saj is the restaurant St James desperately needed. You can tell by how busy it is during peak lunch hour... and for good reason. If you are in the area and looking for a great flavorful meal this is THE place. They have an extensive menu and everything on it is delicious and quality. The only down side is having to wait during peak hours (usually 10+ minutes) so don’t forget to factor that in if you’re dipping out of the office for lunch. Well worth the wait though!

Every time I go they are amazing only today they decided to give me burnt shawarma after I drove there for 1 hour to eat from there. I could not even eat it the much bitter it was from the burn. I will not go there for a period of time for sure but I hope the manager or someone sees my comment because I am someone who always get shawarma from there and I have decided not to go there for a while Imagine if it was someone new.

Use to love this place since it opened, great food. Then two days ago ordered on skip and the portions are about 25 percent of what they use to be. Called and said we have to measure out everything now, sorry. Huh, get food cost gone up but charging more for way less! Won't be back

A MUST TRY!!! You'll sense quality the moment you enter the restaurant. Very welcoming and awesome staff! They always make sure that you get what you need and want. Their meals are very tasty!!! Rice bowls and the mixed platter are extremely delicious!!! Also, their interior design is unique but in a good way. Very satisfied with the food and service and would definitely be back!

I’ve been watching (and tasting) this restaurant from the first days it opened and can say team is doing great job. They develop interior and increase menu to please everyone. Cuisine is authentic and delicious, can’t say what I love more - all is very tasty (I never tried fries by the way). Zuhrat tea and hand-made sweets will definitely bring you on the seven gourmet heaven

We love this restaurant , go there almost weekly. we were very disappointed in the last couple of times we ordered beef Doner and beef shawarma there was hardly any meat in the wrap. Even for fries the portion is cut in half. prices went up which I think is fair with the inflation, but this means portions should stay the same when you increase the price.

Got the chicken platter last night and almost went to heaven. Not because of the taste but because of the raw chicken that was served. I got 2 skewers out of which 1 was cooked but the other one not cooked at all. The platter is way overpriced for what it includes as well. No potatoes, barely any salad. Just rice with a side of salmonella.

First experience was great. Delightful service. We had never been and the lady recommended a platter for 2 to try a variety. Excellent choice. Amazing food. LOVED the donair meat. It was flavourful and moist. The chicken was also beautiful. The restaurant was well lit and clean. Will definitely be back so I can try everything they serve.

Service was friendly and efficient. Food was great. I had the chicken platter and the chicken was tasty and juicy. My husband had the lamb. The Saj bread is fantastic. We had rice and Tabouleh and both were seasoned to perfection as to be tasty yet not overpower the flavour of the meat. This was a fantastic first experience.

One of the best Shawarmas in north America. Their Saj is always fresh and tasty and the meat is perfect. I always enjoy their Shawarma when I am in town. I highly recommend!

Donair was the worst I’ve had anywhere and was waaay overpriced (it was small and light so should have been around $6-$9 max but it was like $13… absolutely ridiculous.) Cannot comment on any other food items as I didn’t try anything else… so to keep it neutral I’ll put 3 stars

Fantastic food. Quick service at lunch. Limited seating so it’s easier to pick up and take out.

Quick filling meal. Decent prices. Lots of tables available but they are small. Tasty rice and chicken, lettuce was wilting, dessert was flaky, some extra foods and candy for sale at front of store. Sells Turkish Delight.

Item name: Les saj chicken platter. Comes with bread, salad, meat, rice or fries. Hummus, sour sauce and spicy sauce. Environment was good. Other arabian restaurants has smoke of hooka but it doesn't. Good place for family gathering with kids.

  • ROB SAYS

Great place for shawarma and other middle eastern dishes. Prices and portions are fair, food was freshly made. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back to try other dishes. Also ask for the hot sauce, has a good kick to it.

Ambience is good and the place is clean. Staff are friendly and accomodating. Tried the Beef Kabab Platter and the serving size is good. I have yet to try other choices on the menu but so far this is a good place for a quick bite.

First time ordering was through skip. The quality was very good and they followed the instructions well. Ordering there in person is very awesome as well! Great customer service, and they make their Donairs the way you like it :)

Loved the beef donair, my friend had the Arabian shawarma which was also fantastic. Huge portions, but quality is awesome. So flavorful. Definitely recommend and I will be back as there are many other dishes i want to try!

  • Mike Pavloook

The donair and chicken schwarma are great. Make sure to get the garlic sauce or add some hot sauce if you want some heat. I've popped by here several times since they opened and the food and service are consistently good.

First time here. Had the beef donair platter (beef, rice or fries, chickpea/black bean medley, saj bread and dips) and thought it was amazing. Enough food to share between two people in my opinion.

My new favorite shawarma/ donair spot! Saj is like a very thin pita - you can taste the filling more. And their platters are huge!
