"This place is like a toy store for handy people! From project books, to little gadgets, to that one thing you need to finish your project that no one else has, or even just to get inspired for a new project, this place has it All and at great prices! Friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you get what you need! Also, to address the multiple negative reviews about not being able to browse to the store; Lee Valley has more products than they can physically put out on the floor, as such they rely on their customer base to know what they're looking for"
It is unfortunate that I have to write this review. I Always had a wonderful experience at Lee Valley and have been treated with dignity and respect. We run a mill-work shop in High River and I stopped in at Lee Valley intending to purchase Festool sander. After stopping in at two different suppliers before, I felt that breathing through the mask was getting me dizzy. I am not an anti mask and was quite shocked what was going to happen next. I entered the store wearing a mask but my nose wasn't covered. Immediately a lady employee approached me asking me to cover my nose, I said OK. At that time there was myself and one another client at the store. Then standing at the counter I felt like wasn't getting enough air so I had to expose my nose again and was then approached by the same lady again. I tried explaining to her that I wasn't able to breath properly and she responded " we wear the masks 8 hours a day without any problems, If you have a problem with this we can always serve you outside" Then I saw a person in the back warehouse walking without the mask and another one that had his nose exposed!! Where is your common sense lady? Treat every client like this and they will go somewhere else.! What is happening to us here in Canada when we start policing each other?? I grew up in the socialistic country that had a tight government regulations, control and people were always "telling" on each other. I was shocked how I was treated as a client and truly feel that my individual rights were violated this morning. I will never return.
Customer service on the phone is been terrible! It took days of calling before anyone answered. I asked if 2 tools were in stock I saw on their website that said limited. The person was very annoyed to have to find out for me. You can tell by the sigh and tone in their voice. I even provided part numbers and manufacture to help. On the website some items say available and some say limited. I didn't know what limited meant. The person was short with me from the beginning and rude just trying to hurry and get me off the phone. I have been saving up money to buy several things from there for awhile. I have never been there in person, but was excited to finally go pick up the items I wanted. Everything came up available online, but 2 items. I wanted to make sure they were there before I went or if they would have to order them first. The person was not helpful. Said the items were not in stock. That's as far a the help went. So, I looked them up on the manufactures website and spent my $600 on there instead. If that's how they are on the phone I'd rather pay the shipping then go in their store and buy from them!
As always, the service at Lee Valley was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The array and variety of products continues to expand yearly. Product quality is uniformly high, and the intrinsic value of the offering is very high as the products are well designed to do their respective jobs safely and efficiently for lifetimes to come. The prices certainly reflect the high quality, but appear to be well within what one would expect to pay for better end tools. Lee Valley continues to earn my business by being my first stop for excellent quality tools and various shop, home, and garden supplies. Many of the staff have worked at Lee Valley for a considerable number of years and I can depend on the for honest and knowledgeable opinions to assist me in choosing my purchases to match my requirements. I have shopped at Lee Valley stores since some time in the later 90's and would not know where else to look for many items I use constantly in my saddle shop, kitchen, home and garden. Thank you for being there and consistently excelling.
I thought this store was just a run of the mill hardware store but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to see it filled with so many things you can’t get at Home Depot. This is a great specialty shop with a nice variety of unique and cool things on the floor. But that’s just a taste of what they offer. They have a warehouse in the back and take in-store purchase requests from their website. Or you can just order from home. I think it’s smart keeping costs down while still offering a huge selection of inventory to be purchased immediately. It’s really an inspiring place if you’re into crafts or small make work projects. I really enjoyed browsing this place and the staff was really nice and engaging. I was looking at the reviews of this place and while most are really good I did notice that most of the bad reviews took place during Covid. Cmon. Businesses had to do what they had to do and I think there was a lot of unfair blame going on. Give them a break! Lol. So take those reviews with a grain of salt.
This place is like a toy store for handy people! From project books, to little gadgets, to that one thing you need to finish your project that no one else has, or even just to get inspired for a new project, this place has it All and at great prices! Friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you get what you need! Also, to address the multiple negative reviews about not being able to browse to the store; Lee Valley has more products than they can physically put out on the floor, as such they rely on their customer base to know what they're looking for. Use their awesome website to browse their variety of products and head in for what you are after. Don't need to bash these hardworking people for wanting to protect themselves and their families.
This is the place 4 those who want a gr8 shopping experience. From canning funnels to telescoping tree pruners, this is the toy shop for the grownups. From when you step inside and are greeted by a real human with a real brain, it's a total experience. I've shopped for cabinet hardware, carpentry supplies, kitchen tools, gardening equipment and so many hand tools. They carry quality goods that will last.and I don't buy stuff to throw out after a few uses. There are computer kiosks so you can look up products and then print an order. When you hand the printed copy to the counter staff, they will find it for you. Staff are knowledgeable, which is more than I experience at box stores. I rarely leave without something in a bag!
My Mom wanted to go to Lee Valley because there were a couple neat things she wanted for my Dad from their catalogue. I found the quality of the items were good but the prices very much matched that quality. My one complaint was the process of cashing out and paying for our items. It an age of high end POS systems Lee Valley is a little in the dark ages. We 1st of all had to take a number. Then the sales representative wrote all the items by pen on a paper invoice looking up the SKU number on the computer. Later he scans each item and has me pay using my debt card. Not sure why the paper invoice which took sometime to write out which was annoying. I think Lee Valley could stand to get In 2020 with its POS system.
I have shopped a fair amount at this facility over the last year for drawer pulls for our kitchen reno, for a Vegepod and today some home, small batch fermenting products. We always get great help from staff. Real tips from people who really use the product. Today great tips on indoor gardening and additional reading on the topic. They truly are the best retailer for products to make your garden and kitchen better and likely, if I was into woodworking and that crafty stuff I would proclaim they excel there too. I find their ordering and pick up system a bit quirky but as a SK girl I recognize the heart of a Saskie in this method. Note my Vegepod in action! Best buy ever!
I absolutely love Lee Valley... even their clothing items! I have the Lee Valley Painter pants AND shorts. I find a lot of their things are priced way out of my budget but that is only because you are getting very high quality - in just about everything. A lot of the times when I go in, I also find they have some screaming deals on items that are great gift ideas: gardening things, children's educational things and unusual hardware items like magnetic door stops - have 4 of them to prevent my doors blowing shut when I open my windows at night. Even when I can't afford many of the items, I always take a look around at everything - I'm a little bit of a Tool NERD!
They have so much cool and useful stuff here I could spend hours just wandering around the store and checking out everything they sell. Unfortunately, they didn't have what I was looking for which were locks for glass display cases. Although they did have a few options they weren't an exact match to the samples I showed them. However, the friendly staff recommended some other places I could try which was very considerate and helpful. I still remember that this was the only place to get a special rim rolling tool when Tim Hortons first introduced their Roll Up The Rim contests. Not even Tim Hortons sold them but you could get one at Lee Valley!
Friendly helpful staff. But not all they're stuff is quality. The cheap stuff is Chinese type quality that's is overpriced and can be bought cheaper some where else. The higher quality stuff is very expensive but excellent quality. So you get what you paid for just like anywhere else. My advise is if your a serious woodworker and what high quality tools, then this is the place. But I think it's too high priced for the average home user and trades guy. The quality of tools you would need for average home or work use is better priced elsewhere. Also, they have stuff I feel are more gimmick tools, again over priced.
Door man today seemed to want to pick a fight. I don't wear masks because I'm medically exempt from having to. He did his best to make me feel like garbage and would not explain why Lee Valley did not respect the signage up that references the needs of those that are exempt. He said I'm not allowed to get him sick. We'll, I just want to say, he should not be allowed to leave his house and treat people like this. Regardless, another staff member that went in and got what I needed was great and I appreciated him and his help.
Lee Valley Tools is a Canadian tradition if you are a tool junkie. They have built a loyal customer following by stocking fine quality woodworking tools, hardware, gifts, gardening tools, gadgets and equipment. Product ordering is available online as well as in their showroom stores. You can also order their free product catalogues and spend hours browsing through the colourful pages. Lee Valley also provides instructional classes in their showroom locations but register soon as they are using oversubscribed.
Not a fan of google reviews but just wanted to give credit where it was due. This store is wonderful. The staff are so friendly and nice and they all have lots of experience and advice if you're looking for help on a project. Most of the products for sale aren't made in China but in Canada and the United States and most are high quality. Unfortunately they have chosen to limit capacity to only 18 shoppers at a time and therefore you have to wait in line if its busy. That's why 4 stars instead of 5.
We checked website and drove for 45 minutes to shop. Upon arrival a sign on the door said appointment only, but they said if we waited they would assist us. After waiting in line for more than 15 minutes was told that I was not allowed to go in with my husband. When my husband went in they told him he was not allowed to look around, and they would only show him specific tools upon request. Staff was rude. Consider. this store closed until pandemic is over because they do not want the business.
Lee Valley tools amazed me with the customer service staff, more specifically Ron at the Calgary location. I purchased a lathe through him, he's helped me learn the ropes, he answers all my questions, assisted me in more than just my purchase, like how to sharpen my chisels, he even brought me back and gave me a quick lesson on his lathe. He went above and beyond what I would normally expect from customer service. If you're looking to get into the wood turning world talk to Ron. He's awesome.
Every time I call this store they either don’t answer or answer with the worst customer service. I’ve spent in total, hours walking around the store with employees just standing around offering no help. Thought I’d avoid it by doing curb side this time. Spent 30 minutes calling in to get curbside with no answer, to have the man at the door rudely tell us to just keep calling??? Number listed isn’t even the correct number to call. Couldn’t even tell me where to pull up to get it?
I ordered some stake sprinklers from Lee Valley. They did not work for what I wanted so I returned them immediately. I have sent a number of emails and requests for my money to be refunded as they have acknowledged that they have received the items. It has been over a month and they refuse to refund my money. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM ONLINE UNLESS YOU KNOW THAT IT IS THE CORRECT PRODUCT. This has been very frustrating. I think they are hoping that I will just give up.
For me, it feels like posh Home Depot (but not really). I'm getting better at wood working projects so I thought I'd upgrade and bought my first Festool. Could be an expensive hobby from now on. For those Gen-X Calgarians, it has a Consumer Distributors vibe from the 80's (counter service). To think, I wouldn't even walk into the place a few years ago, but with the quality of products going down, Lee Valley seems to (positively) exude "you get what you paid for".
I absolutely love Lee valley, so helpful! But when you go in their and specifically ask for someone who has been recommended to you and the woman sales person Eileen has a hissy fit and makes a comment about "she knows nothing because she is a woman" is completely uncalled for, especially as I am a woman myself! I just needed to speak with Gord as he was recommended to me and absolutely fabulous! Did I say I love Lee Valley!!!!
An excellent shop for high-end high quality tools and accessories for building things everything you need for home renovations Hobbies Woodworking and gardening. they also offer courses you can go online and book to teach you how to use tools how to make things and also how to maintain your tools. And lots of parking out front. the staff was very knowledgeable and very helpful with helping you find Solutions or finding items.
I called Lee Valley to find a pretty specific type of drawer hardware that neither Home Depot nor Lowe's carried. The customer service rep was able to locate the item over the phone quickly and give me the price as well. When I arrived at the store another rep quickly helped me locate the item in the computer and the order desk retrieved the hardware in no time. It was an excellently streamlined process from start to finish!
Picked up a couple of needed items during the great covid pandemic. I know this is stressfull for everyone but it was not very well managed at the Calgary location. And i would suggest that if people are not comfortable working during this challenging time they probably should stay home. Being rude and curt with customers is never good for business.I love Lee Valley but i think i will avoid until this is over.
I loved how easy it was to check stock online, then go in store to see the actual product before buying. They have a unique system where you still have to order from a computer terminal, it prints a pick ticket you take to staff who pull your items and process payment. There were ample machines available with clear instructions, but also staff present and attentive to assist anyone who looked confused.
Unhelpful customer service. Was given an ancient catalog that didn't have the tools I had found online. Only computer to look up items online was at the hands of the employee whos fingers moved with the fluidity of frigid molasses. Why I felt pressured to buy the wrong items I was presented with, I don't know. Just order online. I was able to find the exact tool I wanted originally with ease.
Lee Valley is easily the best company for service and quality, in an era when both service AND quality have disappeared. I buy a lot of tools and shop supplies there, and have never had a negative experience. I have also never had any problems returning an item if it simply did not meet my needs or expectations. The Calgary store staff have always been very good to deal with. 5 STARS, period.
Love this store but the staff! Why all the old grumpy people? I would rather be served by a bored young person than be snarked at by grumpy old people. How dare I ask for you to leave your back room revelry. It sure looks like a great gig and LV is supposed to be a great employer, so why so snarky at customers (at at store at prides itself at customer service?)! Please hire better staff!
Went to go pick up paint to find out it’s appointment only (the only woodworking shop in Calgary doing so). I’d highly recommend any of the other shops in Calgary that aren’t making they’re customers wait for no reason Ex-Blackforest Wood Products, or Woodcache. Don’t waste your time with a company that doesn’t care for your time. It seems like they don’t need the business.
Ordered drawer slides online and there was an issue with shipping. It was obvious to me that it was the shipping company and not Lee valley. Regardless, I called their customer service and they dealt with it right away, no cost to me. I will buy from them again as the item was good quality as expected, but their customer service was also top notch and very helpful.
Do a better job of letting people know that you are not actually open. For instance change your Google status. How is any one supposed to know that you’re letting people in by appointment only? Driving all the way down to find out you can’t even shop at an “open” Is utterly ridiculous. This is why people shop on Amazon instead of coming to your store.
Great selection of items, however the man that checked out my items was a bit rude. I grabbed 2 of the same item and he had only charged me for one, so I reminded him about the second one. He made me feel like I’m the one who inconvenienced him for the machine not working or making him work more when he was the one who charged me for one item.
I have yet to come across a more rude behind the counter sales personnel. It’s like they hate their own face. Of all the stores I have supported and have supported me…. This one will be deleted from me ever going back. Unbelievable!! They know everything about everything and you are the dunce. And the covid protocol… a whole new level.
Needing a customer service refresh! Sometimes experience comes across as arrogance. I’ve always enjoyed this store but my recent visit has changed my mind. Particularly the woman who felt the need to repeat loudly three times, that my card had been declined. Training here would have been an asset.
I waited outside until there was room for me - COVID restrictions on capacity in place. There was a family of 5 inside leisurely strolling around inside taking up almost 50% of the capacity allowed. Once inside, it was easy to quickly get what I was looking for. The products and service are good.
Friendly staff who know what they are doing. We arrived and didn't have to wait in line, though there were people after us who did. And we found everything we went for. It's a bit of a hike for us to get to the store but definitely worth it for the unique items that you can find at Lee Valley.
Website said the Calgary location had the item in stock, so I ordered it for pickup the next day. They called and said they didn't actually have it in stock so I have to wait an extra 10 days for them to order it. Nice of them to call and explain, but disappointing you can't trust the website.
I could spend thousands of dollars here. They have beautiful high quality woodworking tools and other related hand tools. You can order online and pickup in the store as well. They use a serving by number system here, just pull a tag and you'll be called up to the counter in short order.
LEE Valley is great. Customer numbers are restricted, so short line outside. Covid cautious inside. Masks, dividers, sanitizers everywhere. Excellent customer service. I returned an item that didn't work properly, no receipt, used, no problem, in fact courteous and friendly.
Great customer service, friendly staff, and a great selection of otherwise hard-to-find tools and items. I am a huge fan of their woodworking tools, but they also have cooking, gardening, and household items, many of which can’t be found elsewhere. Highly recommend!
A woodworker's candy shop. They have a great supply of well made (although sometimes overpriced) tools. Any woodworker needs to watch their wallet else they will end up working weekends to pay off the expense. Unfortunately the staff can be quite entitled and rude.
A typical Lee Valley. Great tools. Neat stuff. Often a little pricy, but almost always good quality. Also the only brick and mortar store for many things (like cabinet hardware) that you have to touch and feel to decide whether to use it in a project.
Very helpful to find what I was looking for, very courteous with putting product aside for me. Changed to a different product and was helped online, and a kind non stressful return of product I had picked up before. Thank you Lee Valley. And Dave.
Lee Valley Tools is one of those places that still values quality and a high standard of customer care. Every interaction in this store has always been beyond excellent. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The products are always top quality.
You've got people standing outside in the cold in -32°C to get into your store right now. By the time I got in my hands were numb and toes frozen. Somebody is going to get hurt. This is not safety, it's madness. Period. You should all be ashamed.
While I would agree with some of the comments on here regarding an older rude employee who helped us fill our in-store order - that is quickly forgotten by the grand majority of employees who have consistently gone above and beyond to make
This rating is for the manager of the store, stuff was super helpful and nice but I still think if as a customer If I am spanding over $5000 on a festool manager should be involved and be there to offer some kind of gift since festool is
I recently went to Lee Valley to get some new hardware and hinges for my kitchen. I was greeted with great kindness, knowledge and excellent customer service from both Brian and Jen C. Thanks for your help! I will be coming back for sure
What's not to LOVE about Lee Valley, a true Canadian Success Story !!! A great selection of all things wood working, hardware, & gardening. My recent trip was for table leaf locks ... Lee Valley had the items in stock & at a fair price.
Great service. I've bought a lot of small hardware items and the prices are very reasonable. They carry many items that 'big box' stores don't. The hand tools are worth every penny. I bought the Dovetail Jig Kit and its fantastic.
Review of online shopping and product (night light rocker switch): The online ordering process was easy, the price was amazing ($40 less than comparable products from other providers) and it works great! Very happy customer!
Many of the items are made in china and can be purchased elsewhere for less. The prices here would make you think everything is high quality. Most of the staff are surly old white men. Think Radio Shack 10-15 years ago.
I have been buying stuff from Lee Valley for years. They have excellent products of all sorts. Today I just got a quality pole saw at a reasonable price from Lee Valley that will let me prune a tree in my backyard.
It's hard to describe this place. They have all kinds of seemingly random stuff you'd need to go to 20 other stores to find. Most of it is good quality, and the people working there are friendly and knowledgable.
Good experience, however you need an appt to go in. We didn't have one, there to do a return, but they let us in thank goodness! We weren't permitted to stay and browse unfortunately, but my return went smooth.
Good service and help with a great selection of tools. Only issue being it is mostly browsing to order from their catalog. Not a lot of tools are in store. But that allows for a great selection and variety!
Lee Valley is a beautiful store with many unique and high quality items. Especially good for Christmas gift shopping when trying to find something for those on your list that have everything already
There is no doubt that Lee valley can be expensive but you truly get what you pay for. Also may unique items. The shopping process can be intimidating but there are people normally able to help
Can be a bit of a wait to see someone at the counter, but a great selection of specialty tools for the garden, woodworking, and more. Prices are high, but quality and selection are very good.
Quite possibly the best customer service ive had in my lifetime. Bob went above and beyond to help identify and find all the parts i needed for a project. They dont make em like Bob anymore..
Family owned Canadian business that has great products, pricing and service. Love just looking around. They helped me pick out the hardware for my new to me shoe cabinet and they are perfect!
First time to Lee Valley today. The door man was very helpful in selecting the proper Felco pruner. They have a good variety of quality products and tools. I will shop here again. …
I love Lee Valley as a place where being creative, in the old fashion way is promoted. Plus they always have so many eco-friendly products and ideas. It's a store I could spend hours in.
Lee Valley has lots of unique and quality tools. Unfortunately they didn't have what I was looking for when I stopped in but we're helpful in sending me to someone else who could help.
Had a great experience with my Festool purchase, Neil was an expert on the matter and even set me up for success with some suggested some Festool videos to check out. Thanks!
Super friendly staff that are always welcoming to help you with your project. Easy website to navigate and in store order screens that make the counter experience a charm.
Lovely Valley but waiting over two weeks for my order to come in mail. If you need something quickly you got to do it on amazon. Only shop here if you can go in person
Helpful staff, and great quality products. My only gripe is that they only have the one location... but then maybe that's also part of why they're still in business.
Absolutely outstanding help from Ron in the Calgary store today. He gave me several recommendations to solve my problem with my Jessem router table. Thank you!!!
Between the knowledgeable staff and the staggering amount of high quality equipment available, it's pretty hard to find a reason NOT to shop at Lee Valley
I love this store. Just bought my niece some kitchen gear. The staff member on the floor was fabulous as was the gentlemen that checked me out.
As always the staff are awesome helpful and pleasant bet they Love working there. The products are top notch lots and lots of specialty items
I’ve been commercially gardening for 5 years. The must-haves are the knee pads and the Felco’s. I always go to Lee Valley for these items.
A true gem in the woodworking community. We are lucky to have a Lee Valley. They carry products that you simply cannot get anywhere else.
Great products, terrible service. No one to answer questions, clearly peeved to be assembling my order. Long time customer, done now.
Excellent products and service! I had a problem with an online order and they were extremely helpful! Would absolutely recommend.
I like you very much, there are many useful things I bought a backpack that is super good, the employees are super friendly
Very good customer service. Really neat stuff! So many things I could have purchased! Like going into a candy store.
Attended a pen making class, great instructors and classroom. Lots of attention and sharing of information.
Incredible spot. Fantastic staff. Impressive and exclusive inventory. One of my favourite places to go.
Amazing quality items, prices fair, online has more options. Items of All sorts. Not a one trick shop!
Good selection of items, but the older lady at the customer service counter had a very sour attitude.
Helpful staff, great selection of hand tools for woodworking plus a demo bench to try them out.
Very good customer service. Very fast shipping. Always a pleasure dealing with them.
Always enjoy going to Lee Valley - very unique store with high quality tools, etc.
So organized, clean, and incredibly helpful staff. They make shopping easy here.
Great Customer Service helping us find what we were looking for!
Always great stuff, but not always in stock. Helpful staff
Hands down my favorite store.
