First time here, and overall pretty good experience. Had a very odd back-and-forth with the hostess when we came in and was told that we only had our table for one hour from the time of our reservation. She kept saying that she was just setting expectations because it was TIFF and they’re back to back on their bookings. Only having a table for an hour means you’re really limited and rushed on what you can order, so this obviously wasn’t a good welcome. Later had to clarify with our server how long we actually had on our table and he did confirm it was for about two hours, which is a huge difference and a relief. We went in wanting to get a three course meal and that’s not something you can stuff down in an hour including the time for the kitchen to prepare your food. Shouldn’t have to be made to feel like the priority is getting tables turned over quickly for volume rather than ensuring guests have a good experience when they do come… Our server otherwise was courteous, attentive and gave good recommendations. The foie gras terrine had a great texture and taste. Along with the bread and jam, this was a nice appetizer. Had the 8oz bavette steak frites with red wine jus. The steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare. The jus was flavourful and had a smooth consistency. The fries were also very tasty - along with the size of the cut, it had an uncanny resemblance to McDonald’s fries (not in a bad way). Had the peach tarte tatin for dessert, a sharing dish for two. It came with vanilla bean ice cream and a caramel sauce. The caramel sauce was excellent, and had a great level of depth from burning the sugar. The ice cream was good. The tart was good as well, but could’ve had more variety in texture in my opinion. The tart itself underneath the peaches was soft and then you had soft peaches on top. I also think the peaches could’ve been more “burnt” to tie in with the caramel more and add a bitterness to compliment sweet-tart flavours. I think it was unfortunate with the really odd welcome at the beginning that set the tone for the dinner. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable meal and I’m interested to try their other dishes.

Yesterday I was invited to attend a graduation ceremony at Roy Thompson and afterwards was invited to join the family for a late lunch at Le Sélect Bistro. This was my first time at this French cuisine restaurant and I hope to return. It really was a French European experience as the ambiance made you feel that you were in Paris France. I had the Club Poulet and it was excellent. The toasted bread was just how I remembered it to be when I had some when in Paris. The other meals ordered by my friends were also excellent. The wine was good -a Grand Bordeaux. The stairs leading downstairs to the washrooms goes past the kitchen and I stopped to watch the team of a dozen or so hard at work. Very clean. I gave the service 4/5 for I thought that if I gave 5 stars in all categories you might not believe my review to be accurate. However, the service was excellent and very accommodating. Paris in Toronto, a must to experience.

Parking downtown can be challenging more so depending on the time of day. However, I did see a number of parking opportunities nearby. If you are driving best to plan your parking. I walked along Wellington from an event I was at -Roy Thompson Hall, so I had parked in the underground there.
Kid-friendliness
It is family friendly and very accommodating
Wheelchair accessibility
I did not see a lift to the washroom facilites downstairs. Otherwise the main floor is accessible.

I am thrilled to share my recent adventure in downtown Toronto, where I embarked on an exploration of a new place. This time, fate led us to Le Sélect Bistro, and what a delightful discovery it was! With excitement, we entered the bistro, ready to indulge in a memorable dining experience. As we settled at our table, my taste buds were already dancing with anticipation. With enthusiasm, I ordered my all-time favorite brunch delicacy, the Egg Benedicts, the exquisite Spinach œufs bénédicte, the tantalizing tarte du petit déjeuner, and last but not the least the irresistible gaufres, which was kindly suggested by our stunning waitress who we had a delightful conversation about weekend plans, and if by chance she stumbles upon this message and remembers our interaction, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for her outstanding recommendations and exceptional customer service. The food was beyond exceptional, a true culinary adventure. Each dish was crafted to perfection, leaving me speechless. However, the climax of this gastronomic journey was reached when the heavenly waffles arrived, accompanied by a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee. The flavors melded together flawlessly, creating a moment of pure bliss. Needless to say, I am already planning my return to Le Sélect Bistro, eagerly anticipating the chance to bask in the warm rays of the sun on their inviting patio, while savoring another delectable brunch. To the wonderful team at Le Sélect Bistro, keep up the phenomenal work, and thank you for creating such a remarkable dining experience! great date spot. check the photos and check it out

New edit on Apr 24,2023 Went for lunch and food still good. Tried the breakfast tarts this time and quite different with puff pastry on then bottom with caramelized onion, mushroom, veggie, fried egg on top. Give this dish a try! I like it! —— This place is not cheap but all worth it… I haven’t had French food go so long so we go here on a quiet afternoon after the lunch hour rush… We tried the typical French popular items such as French onion soup, escargot, foie gras. Also we got the steak and egg from the brunch menu. This is one of the besssst French onion soup I ever had… well it’s $19 plus tax but it’s worth trying in my opinion! Flavour is so intense with onion and beef stock and the cheese crust on top is so generous and perfectly baked. Come here hungry so u can enjoy this soup even more!! The escargot is good also but surprisingly, the brioche is more memorable than the escargot . It’s soo good with the escargot , the brioche is so soft with a few grain of salt on top.. yum yum! The steak and egg is ok I guess, definitely not as impressive as the onion soup but the portion is good because I do need something to fill my tummy after eating the appetizer. And the dessert is worth mentioning too!! Looks like freshly out from oven and is very big!! More than enough for 2 people and also came with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream… what a way to end the meal.. This meal is pricey to me but I do enjoyed the food very much and for sure will come back again!!!! 5 stars with no hesitation.

Honestly I was looking forward to the reopening of Le Select Bistro as it was one of my favorite French restaurants before they close. I was at Lapinou a few months ago when the manager mentioned that they bought the old spot and plans to reopen Let's get to the food tonight French Onion Soup - lots of cheese which is what I love and tons of caramelized onions with a rich broth. 5/5 Escargot - still in the shell which I haven't seen in a while in a nice garlic and parsley butter. 4/5 Steak Tartare - Perfectly seasoned beef with a strong taste of Dijon mustard, probably one of the best that I've had 5/5 Mussels - Usually not a fan of white cream sauces but this one was delicious. Heavy cream broth with lots of garlic 5/5 Duck Confit - Honestly the duck was kinda overcooked, way too dry and crispy. The white bean sauce was kinda bland 1/5 Rack of lamb - I don't usually eat lamb and portion was kind of small as the menu said it was half a rack. Presentation look good but since I don't eat enough of lamb. I won't rate it Creme Brulee - Perfect dessert to end the meal 5/5 The restaurant hasn't changed one bit except for the back room as there's a curtain for another section. Not sure if that was there before Friendly staff and great service Overall 8/10 - apps were better than the mains but it's slightly better than Lapinou

One of the better French restaurants in Toronto, and that’s not many! I was glad they had some unique dishes like escargot (which I don’t see often) and bouillabaise (Southern French fish stew). The snails were stuffed in a puff pastry and the snail texture was like mushrooms. Absolutely delicious! It paired really well with the puff pastry. The bouillabaise was the star of the meal. It was so flavorful and rich! You can definitely taste seafood and if you love seafood like me, order this. It was probably one of the best seafood dishes I ever had in my life. So memorable. The steak I shared and it was cooked perfectly. Medium rare but to the more rare side. Amazing! The fries, no disrespect, and I mean this the best way possible, reminded me of Mcdonald’s fries. It was not quite shoestring but it really reminded me of Mcdonald’s fries! It was salty and thin, and so delicious. It was really good and I genuinely believe fries are just a side, no big deal right? But these were actually delicious. We also ordered beausoleil oysters and that mignonette it was served with was out of this world. The ambience was very French bistro like with Henri Matisse paintings. The whole set up did make you feel like you stepped in France. I highly recommend visiting if you love French cuisine!

July 2023 patio weeknight dinner review: Meagre portions. There were 3 escargots in the puff pastry for $23. No flavour. Trout $32 (similar to salmon, served medium) was served with no starch nor vegetables, only the almonds, lemon and capers. Why didn't our server suggest ordering a side dish?! We ordered a $10 plate of flavoured bread and butter after our main course arrived. 6 mini parker rolls with spicy butter. Very tasty. Rolls were not particularly flavoured, however but still best part of the meal. I should have ordered the daily special coq au vin. At least it comes with mashed potato and vegetables! Server guessed special is $32 (had to ask as there is no price on the menu) but suggested it was not as suitable for a hot summer night. Then they offered to split the bill in half but did the math wrong which I didn't notice until we left. I'll be reluctant to return. January 2023 Sunday lunch review: Elegant yet relaxed. Attentive service. Feels even better than before the change in management. There was too much pepper in the wild mushrooms, and my glass of wine may or may not have been what I ordered. Otherwise perfect.

Love this place. Escargot was on point, just like eating it France! The food was great. The atmosphere and vibe is indeed very Parisienne as food critics suggests. Somewhat high-end yet casual kind of vibe mixed together. The frites are probably McCainn or Cavendish Shoestring fries, which is a complaint I have with practically all French cuisine restaurants in Toronto serving up pomme frites... But they were delicious regardless. Price point is a bit high. There is no children's menu, but the kids shared with me. The server did bring crayons and paper for the kids to colour on. The service was top notch, our server was top notch. Cocktails were excellent, mine was so delicious.

Excellent! If possible would rate 4.5, I have to say that I’m disappointed with the bread on the steak sandwich was very underwhelming. Now everything else was delicious, beef tartar was excellent, escargots on puff pastry very interesting and the pastry was super crispy and tasty and the mix with mushroom was something new for me, I wouldn’t say better than the typical garlic butter recipe, but a close 2nd. Onion soup was very rich and had a sweet touch that taste great. The steak and fries also really good, just don’t go for the sandwich Beverage. Very good cappuccino and beer La Chouffe is delicious. We didn’t have any wine but I definitely encourage, the wine variety is huge and visit the restrooms to see the cellar and the kitchen. Price are reasonable on the high side but worth it.

A classic French restaurant. Service is decent and comfortable seating if you get a booth. Although the menu is pricey but the portion and deliciousness is worth the price point so I believe it is justified. We started with the onion soup which had a generous amount of cheese, it smelled and tasted sooooo delicious (I’m salivating as a I type this) but it did get a bit heavy and too savoury near the end I would recommend sharing it. The beef tartare was another highlight of our meal, I wish there were more slices of bread. I was pretty full at this point but we ordered a few entrees. The entrees were also delicious with good portion sizes. Out of the three entreees we tried we enjoyed the duck the most but the steak frites were also good. Was too full to try dessert but if I had room I would of! Probably will come back just for the beef tartare and French onion soup so will try the dessert next time!

The onion soup was very flavorful and the way it came out made it look extra good. And the boeuf bourguignon was amazing. I've always had high expectations on this menu after watching "Julie & Julia" and I was impressed. However the Truffle Mac and Cheese was very disappointing the ham didn't really taste good and there was no truffle or truffle scent at all. As a huge fan of truffle, we knew they didn't add any truffle oil into our food. So we told a server and she fixed it by giving us a small side of truffle oil. And later we found out that she had charged us 5$ for it . I mean people who dine at this restaurant probably won't care about the extra 5$ but the mindset of making us pay for their mistake was so disappointing. With that extra 5$ this small Macaroni was 19$ before tax and it was not worth that. Our main server was very kind and friendly but this other server... I bet she didn't even check with the kitchen to see if there was a mistake with the menu.

I was excited to return since they closed during Covid. We went for dinner and sat outside. Our waitress was not good she took our order and never returned, as a result when our meal came it was cold and not enjoyable. A new touch to bouillabaisse was served with baguette covered with a bright yellow squash reduction, never had a baguette served like this it was not good at all. My steak was over cooked and cold. Escargot was served with a mini puff pastry I have never had it served like this and I can say I am fan. We paid $220 for the meal I felt it was over priced for the quality of food and the poor service we had..really sad my favourite restaurant did not measure up.

Back open after covid by public demand this downtown staple of classic French cuisine is back! Parking is a bit tough at times and i suggest you call ahead before coming. The food is absolutely delicious, their burger is juicy and topped with a beautifully thick slice of smoke maple bacon and their fries are throughly cooked well done, crunchy on the outside but Fluffy inside. Exactly how i like it. Their breakfast meal is also extremely good. Their velvety smooth scrambled eggs pair perfectly with their delicious home fries, breakfast sausage and toast. Atmosphere is rustic French with posters from the 60s to 70s time period and very nice and high ceilings Price is a little above average but 1000% worth the quality and portion size.

I don't like French food. BUT this place was BOMB DOT COM. FOOD: I ordered beef tartar, coq au vin, and crème brule for dessert. The appetizer was clean, delicious, and well balanced. The main was a highlight 100%. It was a special, but the chicken was falling off the bone and the balance of flavors was amazing. Finally, you will get a good crack on the brule. DRINKS: We simply had wine at this place. The selection is good and we certainly enjoyed our meail. SERVICE: We were quite slow and appreciated that the server helped us to accelerate us and move us along through the evening. They were on point, polite, and a pleasure to work with. ATMOSPHERE: The place looked dark, but reminiscent of a French restaurant! Yeah, I said it. It certainly is a good place to explore!

Was unfortunately disappointed, mostly due to the kitchen or someone forgetting about my order. I ordered an old fashioned that took almost 15 min, then it took almost another 20 min for someone to take my order. We started with the milk bread that is amazing. We had hopes things were turning around. Sadly almost 40 min went by before I finally received my medium rare steak and fries. Only one time did the server stop by to then realize I had yet to receive my main dish. I really wanted to try the deserts but was too exhausted to bother. When the bill came, we were also disappointed to not see them comp at least my drink. We won't go back. Not worth it for the price and there are too many other good restaurants in the area now.

I had a good experience here, I hadn’t booked in advance and wasn’t quite sure what I was walking into but was pleasantly surprised, they accommodated us a table before the next reservation arrived and I got salmon tartare along with pâté de campagne. Both were very good and filled me plenty. My partner got the steak and fries and it was cooked and seasoned deliciously. The only drawbacks was that washrooms were a bit confusing to find and the next tables wine bucket was right behind my chair and almost got my coat soaked. The desserts were also very nice to choose from and overall was a wonderful experience.

I first brought my friend to Le Sélect Bistro as fellow french speakers, and saw that they had so many options for my partner who’s pescatarians. So you bet I went again!! My first visit, i got the lamb which was tasty but a tad too salty. The second visit surprised me with how a simple roasted chicken tasted SO GOOD. Not one bite was dry and the skin crispy and so tasty. We also got the oysters, usually we don’t enjoy the red wine vinegar - but not surprised that we’d love this classic pairing with the oysters at a french restaurant!! Highly recommend, date night or self treat. Definitely worth it. Shout out to our waitress Stephanie who’s made us feel very welcome and served impeccable service!

Excited to come for my birthday but was met with disappointment. Over the duck confit and the cassoulet was the saltiest thing ever! The server who helped us was alright but she didn’t seem very happy to help us, which made us feel guilty for speaking up. We ended up apologizing to her for “making a fuss”. When providing solutions between ordering a new dish or same one, she was very pushy instead of making an alternative recommendation for me. I felt that she made me feel as if I was making things up to get another dish or something when that is not the case at all. Over all not the type of high end experience this price tag is deserving. I will not be back.

Excited to say the that this stalwart reopened! We had to give it a try on this their first week. Great to see some of the original service/bar team back. We sat out on the patio on a great evening. The menu is pretty much the same as we recall. The food was excellent! The service was also wonderful and warm. Our apps consisted of traditional French fare, Deviled Eggs & Escargot. For our mains I enjoyed my goto dish, the Cassoulet with the Duck. The rest of our group enjoyed Sea Bass that they said was wonderful. Let the pics tell the story. Their Apple Tart dessert was off the charts delicious! It was a perfect desert to share family style with our 4some. Boy we’re glad Le Select is BACK!

Terrible. Live around the area so decided to give this French restaurant a go however the food quality is super disappointing! We have ordered the beef tartare and foie gras and is just not it ! Their starter taste so bland and obviously tasted like they prepared it for a while. Even we told the waiter about the problems however they still decided to charge for our starters as we barely eat it. We used to live in europe and this is just not the proper french food, if you want proper French food just please go somewhere else but not here. terrible food

The food is excellent accompanied with good service and comfortable vibes. The scallops and escargot were great starters and well cooked. The flavour of the roasted chicken was my favourite! The black cod was also cooked perfectly although I didn't find puree and sauce tasty and didn't go well with the cod. For dessert the chocolate mousse could have been better in my opinion because there was too much orange zest and over powered the chocolate. Overall, it's a great French restaurant with delicious food! I'd come back here again

Fantastic atmosphere with fantastic service. Went by the wine cellar and the manager invited me to look inside briefly and talk a bit about the wine. Ended up trying some wine and it was fantastic. The food was also great. I ordered the burger and the fries are absolutely delicious. Think like McDonald’s fries without the grease but still all the flavour. Burger had a super fresh bun and had a well seasoned patty. The toppings were also ver fresh and the cheese was melted well onto the burger. Definitely will be coming back.

Came here for brunch on July 24th after over 2 years of waiting for them to open back up! Totally worth the wait. I had the steak & eggs - the steak was cooked perfectly, was nice and juicy, and the eggs were done how I like them, and I loved the addition of the au jus poured over them. My wife had the Tarte du petit dejeuner and loved it as well. Marco was our server - he is an excellent member of the team, knows his stuff well and was on point with absolutely everything. He took fantastic care of us and is the kind of server you want at your restaurant! Very pleased with everything overall and can't wait to come back for more meals!

My partner and I were exploring The Well across the street and decided to stop by Le Select Bistro for some appetizers before we continued to explore the area. The hostesses and our server were very friendly and welcoming. We shared the escargots bourguignons, seared scallops, and smoked whitefish - all very delicious! Very tempted to order French onion soup, but we were pressed for time! Can't wait to come back again to try other items on the menu!

This restaurant is nestled in the quiet neighbourhood of Wellington street just west of Spadina. The decor is very nice with good music not too loud. Can go with family and friends. The food is good and service is fast. It has a French theme. Our server Stacy was very attentive and friendly. She is bilingual as we heard her conversing in English and French with her customers. One of my favourite French restaurant in Toronto! Servers are very friendly and atmosphere is also amazing. Highly recommend the bouillabaisse, their seafood is very fresh and the tomato soup base is very good. Loved the French onion soup, but my friend found it salty. Beef Tartare is on the more saucy side but not too overwhelming. Croque Madame is soft and crispy, duck confit is tender but crispy on the outside.

I’ve been meaning to try Le Select for a long time. I finally went for my birthday and unfortunately was in for disappointment. Generally the food looked visually appealing however there was either no taste, or one flavour overpowered the dish. Escargot - could’ve used more garlic and flavour. Beef tartare - the Dijon mustard overpowered the dish. The French onion soup - very acidic and tasted almost like tomato soup? Steak frites was good but overall very disappointed and would not recommend.

Went for brunch menu and was not disappointed. Had ordered beef tartare to start and the steak and eggs for the main. Beef tartare was flavourful with a balance of acid and savoury. The steak was done nicely with a beautiful char on both sides. However, the steak could’ve had a little more salt to season. A very simple brunch menu and would love to go back and try out the dinner menu.

Beautiful place. It was empty when we arrived, and pretty soon 3 more families came in. They seated all of them right next to us, with tons of available tables sitting empty. So, forget about private, romantic place to enjoy your breakfast in peace.Tons of empty tables, but they seated 3 different families right by each other. No privacy, whatsoever. We might have visited with the family right next to us. Unsalted food was accompanied by walmart-like chocolate croissant. Not impressed; wouldn't recommend.

Highly recommended for those special occasions. Two of us shared the onion soup, cote du beuf (apologies if not properly spelled), fries, and ratatouille, plus a bottle of red. Looked for a brunch spot while in Toronto on business and found Le Sélect Bistro in an online article. Those can be hit or miss but Le Sélect was definitely a hit. Our server Taylor intuitively led our experience, making it effortless. She was personable, helpful, and intelligent. The food was attractively presented and tasted excellent. And if it's one of those times (regrettably it was not so for us today), the wine list is a 64-page tome of bottles from around the world.

Service was excellent. Brent suggested a great wine to pair with our appetizers and mains. It was a leisurely rmeal, almost 2 hours We were not rushed. Lamb sirloin special and duck confit as always were excellent. Tables are nicely spaced. It's not inexpensive but worth it. You only live once. Booked through Open Table. Why do they ask if it's an occasion and then do not acknowledge it?

Great to see the Bistro open for business again. Used to work down the street and this was a go-to spot for years. The place is as I remember it but slightly more expensive. Two of us had 2 of the following: drinks, appies and dinner. Bill came to approx $250 all in. We didn't have the most expensive items on the menu! Service was excellent and the food was very tasty! The whole experience was not very pleasant for a very special day for me and my husband celebrating our anniversary. The waitress was extremely rude and the seat was broken. They assigned us a seat looks like a 70 years old movie theatre wile the other seats all vacant! It was overall very disappointed. They are millions of restaurants out there and I don’t know why we picked this one. Very regraded!

Beautiful bistro for lunch time. We had the salade niçoise and salmon tartare. The food is fresh and well presented. We had truly great service. It’s a little on the expensive size for the portions but for lunch it was very nice. If you are a fan of chocolate the grand marinier mousse is delicious, my fiancé is a crème brûlée connaisseur and he loved it.

Lovely dinner & restaurant. I sat outside on the patio in the back, but the inside of the restaurant was beautiful. Attended during Summerlicious but ordered from the regular menu. If anyone wants to order from the Summerlicious menu, the entire table does. The food was fresh, flavourful & rich. The bathrooms are located in the basement. You will need to use stairs. Will definitely be back.

This is one of my go-to restaurants for client dinners. It is within walking distance from the office, it has a great atmosphere, the service is usually excellent and the food is very well prepared. You cannot go wrong taking your dates or clients to this gem. I haven't had a disappointing visit yet, and each was memorable.

A classic French Bistro with a very charming patio. The menu is bistro perfection but the preparations of the dishes was consistently slightly off. The escargot was doused in pepper and lacking in garlic. The foie gras terrine was very salty. The trout meunière was lacking in almonds and over-served with capers. The one perfectly prepared dish was the crème brûlée. The other outstanding element of the meal was the wait staff. Truly excellent service.

Le Select Bistro really nailed it with their French dishes. The foie gras and steak frites were top-notch, bursting with flavor. It's a place that treats you to the best of French cooking without feeling too stuffy or over the top. Definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves good food and a cozy vibe.

Excellent dining experience. We had the oysters to start and they were sweet and very fresh. I had the duck confit which could have had more diverse seasoning… however my friend’s risotto was perfect. For dessert I strongly recommend the tarte tatin which had the flakiest pastry and was served with hot caramel. AMAZING. I’ll be coming back to have it again. Service was great. Our server was friendly, informative, and attentive. AND the food came quickly. Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10

Back and better than ever. Everything from the luxe Ambiance with the rich leather seats, delicious wine selection and made to order cocktails. All the food was fantastic but the star was the steak tartare and cote de boeuf. We loved the selection of all the sides but my personal favourite where are the skinny salty fries and the macaroni and cheese. Tip: order the steak tartare! It’s the best.

Service was well timed (I hate being rushed) and our meals were great. Had the scallops as a starter and the bouillabaisse. While it was delicious, for $48 I expected a lot more substance. There were two tiny pieces of fish (sushi size) a couple of mussels and clams and two shrimp. Otherwise would have been 5 stars.

Great location for date nights or a classy dinner with friends. They also have an outdoor seating area. To be honest i had higher expectations. After a very good start with drinks and the great escargots, the rest of the food tasted quite so so. The baguettes did not feel fresh, and the salmon tartar was stale and had no flavours. Boullabaise was a bit quite acidic (but the seafood was cooked well and were very succulent). Service was good. Hope to come back and try other items on the menu.

  • Linh Nguyen

I came here once to try the French onion soup. It was a bit too sour for me. I wanted to come back for the brunch. Beef tartar lacked seasoning so we added some salt. The fois gras terrine was really good. The eggs Benny was good but they messed up on the white so the egg came out really small. The hash browns were good though.

Great spot for brunch or dinner. It’s always full, but never so busy that you have to wait an hour before getting a table, only to get pushed out shortly after.
