Writing this review profoundly saddens me. I used to come here often to do work. I also used to bring my five-year-old son here to pick out books. Recently my mom and I took my son to the library. When we were quietly sitting in the children's area, I felt some lousy energy around. A very disgruntled, unpleasant staff member was hoovering around and seemed to be watching us, but she seemed fixated on my mom. I noticed it but ignored it; I offered my mom some coffee since drinks are ALLOWED in the library. There is a sign that CLEARLY states this. So as soon as this staff member saw my mom drinking coffee, she had the audacity to bark very aggressively at my mother to put her mask up. I very nicely and calmly tell her, "Oh, are drinks permitted." She did NOT acknowledge my statement and grumbled something and stomped off. Interesting how she thinks we can't read the sign or how she solely came over to bark at us even though we were not violating any policies. So we stayed there for a bit and noticed the library was closing in 15 minutes; she decided to come over again to bark at us. Because clearly, she believes we can't tell the time or that we didn't hear the very loud voice on the intercom speaker. I can see how she is watching us as we pack up; my mom attempted to use the washroom and told my mom, "There's a mall across the street." The AUDACITY this woman had to tell my senior mother that she couldn't use the washroom...the library was NOT closed yet. It felt like my mom and myself were being targeted, and it was disgusting. I have experience working in customer service; I also have experience working with individuals in the community who are experiencing homelessness, and I would NEVER speak to someone like that. A little kindness goes a long way, and yes, I understand enforcing policies, but no rules were broken here. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and it ruined a space that once felt safe for me. I called the next day and very respectfully told the woman who answered the phone everything that happened, and I left my number and never heard back. No apology, nothing. This reflects very poorly on them; every member of the community should feel SAFE here.
I usually love this library. It has beautiful windows and architecture and I come here to do work, read and study in my down time, despite living in the downtown area. However, I was recently met with an unfriendly staff member. I was sipping my drink and they told me I needed my mask on even though I was actively sipping my drink. I'm not sure what the difference is between my mask or my cup being in front of my mouth. Also, who has the right to dictate how long my sip should be? Definitely not this rude employee. I was wearing my mask every second my cup was down and I am sure if the employee just waited the extra 5 seconds until I was done, they would have seen that. No policies were broken and I was disappointed in this member for treating people using their services like this. Not to mention that two students sitting nearby me were wearing their masks improperly (pulled under their noses) and did not receive a comment whatsoever. This person's actions reflects poorly on the library and taints the safe atmosphere it holds.
I'm a student living off-campus and this library is my go to spot for studying away from home. I usually arrive 10-15 minutes after the library opens on weekends and it is always quiet. I recommend sitting at the tables on the main floor as there are windows to look outside and the views are quite nice on sunny days. This is a very spacious library with plenty of tables around the perimeter of the building, as well as a whole designated study area with individual desks on the lower floor. I've never experienced wifi issues on any of my visits, so deciding where to sit in the library doesn't affect your connection. The staff are friendly and helpful. I needed to print a document and I was given clear instructions where I needed to go and what I needed to do. The printing process is self serve which makes it convenient for anyone to just print and pay on the spot. I highly recommend this library for everyone looking for a quiet place to study and get work done.
The library itself is absolutely beautiful. However, if you are looking to donate books this probably isn't the best place to go. I am a small young women who was looking to donate a large box and a few bags of novels. I carried these books down four flights of stairs at my apartment and out to the car, just to get them there. Once I arrived, I went in, already exhausted, and asked if there was anyone that could assist me, they just said "not really", and continued with their work. There was a man working that could have obviously assisted me, but choose not to. Rather he watches from the door as I struggled to carry the box inside. It would be a much more pleasant experience if the staff were kinder to those who take time out of their day to donate novels to their book sale.
Staff are extremely nice and helpful. Parking lot is always dangerous; people speeding in and out, parking in 2 spots or just parking in front of the main entrance and yelling at you when you ask them to move. Almost got hit twice; once in my car (woman tried to drive behind me when I was backing into a spot and wouldn’t let me park) another was when I was walking. The car barreled right towards me. Be extremely careful when walking here
This is a really nice library. There's plenty of space and workspaces. I like that there's plenty of desks to do my work and they're nicely spaced out for some privacy. The librarians here are very helpful. The downstairs part is great for doing quiet work. There's also plenty of free parking here. It's nice also to be just across the mall as it's then easy to get some food. Overall, a fantastic place for quiet and thinking work.
A great library, lots of resources and quiet areas. My only issue is the outside of the library, particularly facing the park and pond, there is a problem with young people hanging out there causing issues for visitors. Some of them (not all!) have been a bit intimidating to visitors to the park. Inside the library is much better and quieter. My daughter and I had fun with the large chess board on the floor downstairs!
I’ve been going to the library lately to print out stained glass pictures. Alanna is friendly , if you need anything she’s the best help there . She’s pleasant and goes above and beyond ! She took time out to help me . I do appreciate people like Alanna that are there to do their job and be friendly. Thanks Alanna for your help !
I love this library, not just because of the books but because the staff are always so friendly and helpful. The library is kept very clean and clutter free and they have put in place reassuring Covid 19 measures including screen free/people free check out and drop off tables for touched books. Highly recommend
One of my favourite libraries to go to. Been visiting this location since 1999 when I was in college and still come here quite frequently. Location is nice, well maintained, clean, and staffs are great. Just a friendly atmosphere if you just want to visit to read a book or do some work. Just like old times.
Came here to Turner Branch to try and use the Internet to do a job search. There are people playing games on the library computers and I can't even get enough of a wifi signal to check my email .. Certainly not worth coming if u actually need a quiet place with Internet access..
Without question, this is rountinly, the most noisy library I have ever been to. Doesn't matter what day of the week you go. Very few parking spots. Making some visits impossible to find a spot. And doesn't matter where you sit, its rather noisy. Therefore distracting.
Really good place..But need to get more books on computer science didn’t find any language book… Am not sure either public libraries are legalized to keep them or not… If it’s there it would be really helpful for lots of students… Thank you
This is a wonderful location. There are several places to work quietly at a desk and on the main level the windows provide ample natural light and peaceful views. The staff were very friendly. The library is spacious as well.
I have been coming to this library whenever I need to print something off. The staff are always so helpful. I will be coming here more often, since it's in a convenient location (right across from the Cataraqui Centre) :)
WiFi is nonexistent. So slow I had to leave. I had the option to use the PCs but all my documents and textbooks were on my laptop so that wasn't any help. Please do something about the WiFi so people can get work done!
To one who is upset about others playing games on computers at the Library boo to you, if you want to do a job search attend keyes or cerq I thought libraries were for reading and enjoyment
I really like this place. I am a student as well and this is one of my go to places for studying or doing some research. It is usually quiet and offers a really good wifi connection.
staff are supremely helpful, and the place is beautiful and surprisingly high tech! I wish the self-checkout at the grocery stores were as easy as the self-checkout here
Architecturally wonderful building. Unbelievable use of space, angles and exposure to natural light. This building can be visited just to appreciate the architecture.
Why is the library closed on a Sunday? The kingston libraries close too early during the week for professionals, leaving only Saturday to use the library.
My daughter enjoyed our visit to the library -- reading books, finding one to borrow, playing with the tablet and engaging with other little one.
Beautiful facility, love the kingston library network. Staff are super friendly Also great online access to audiobooks and ebooks. …
Wonderful helpful staff. Library is clean and we'll laid out. Easy to find books or magazines. Just a great place to just sit and read.
Very friendly staff. I had an amount showing due, which was incorrect and they corrected it speedily and we're very helpful.
What a fantastic experience well run lots to see nice space well organized and Nora very helpful and friendly
Nice little library with gardens outside. Very convenient to take the kids after clothing shopping
Online says the library is open on Sunday 1-5. Since this isn't accurate it should be taken off.
Very friendly staff and great setup for curbside pickup. Service is efficient and reliable.
Great library in the Westend of town. Near the shopping centre and other amenities.
I often use this spot to study English. There is so nice place.
Loudest library I have ever been too. Very helpful staff.
