I got very sick at home, with chest pain and nausea, and called the ambulance. The first time the paramedics would not give me anything for nausea, unless I would agree to go to the hospital - took me to Jervinski. The emergency made me sit in a wheelchair - told me it would be 3 hrs before I would be seen. I called a cab, went home so I could lie down. 2-3 days later I got very sick again, and paramedics took me to Jervinski again, but made sure I would be able to lie down on a stretcher. I was on the stretcher for 2& half days in front hallway, while attending physician ordered tests, and I got medication for my chest pains. They also took me to do an echo. The technician/technologist introduced the man she was training as “dr.” He seemed to be practicing/finding his way around the machine. The technician left him - then came back and was explaining about the machine - and saw I was a little exposed on the right side, & covered me up. When she left again, the”doctor “ uncovered me again on the right side, even though he didn’t work on that side again - & continued on the left, now pressing much harder on the left side, which was really painful - but i didn’t say anything. It was as if he was angry, and wasn’t thinking there was an actual human being he was working on, and not a maneqin. I told the nurse about this in emergency, & that I felt exposed. She took this to her supervisors. That night, I was suddenly taken on the stretcher, and put in the back hallway, away from that nurse, and found the nursing stations testy & acting in a territorial and mean spirited way. Hardly got any sleep 2-3 nights, because the health care professionals- nurses, were so loud- all hours of night, & sometimes banging things, that woke me up, in rare moments of sleep. I also needed to get up, & walk a bit which was a nono - & they were upset that I saw a patient who had died, been taken away on a stretcher. Eventually, next day, the paramedics came and took me to the general hospital, for the angiogram. I got much better and more attentive help over there, and went through the angiogram - and was told that it was clear. I was taken back to Jervinski, and they had changed where I would be taken. I was put in a smaller rm with 3 others - and a tiny washroom, with handle for flushing the toilet hidden - and suffering patients, & I had to go and get the nurse to come and help a couple of them, which she eventually did, and gave one of them medication. I also eventually got the pain medication for my hand that was used for the angiogram. In the morning, they had brought breakfast that included a piece of gloop in the form of a muffin - and the nurse was in a rush for me to hurry up and finish. I asked her for a cheese sandwich, & she later brought me cheese - and smal pack of crackers, that she found, which was the only thing I was able to eat. By this time, I was more than ready to leave, & asked to be discharged. Eventually the attending dr from the emergency came up, and told me there was nothing wrong with my heart, even though I was still having mild pain in the chest. He suggested it might be the esophagus (?) i don’t have acid reflux. I told him I wanted to leave - and he said he also wanted me to leave. I’m not the most docile patient. At the age of 73 I have earned the right to speak up - and be outspoken about my rights - and my human rights. May be a concept not properly understood by “some” healthcare professionals. I finally got myself ready, the nurse took all the intervenous tubes out, & another assistant nurse showed me the way to the front, pressed for a cab to come - and few minutes later, I was in the cab which took me home. Hospitals, and healthcare professionals and healthcare providers - need to realize, they are dealing with human beings - & they have a job, because of these patients and human beings, who happen to b sick - and they need to take into account, the whole person. They seem to forget - and think or act as if this is their “Territory” ! They need to remember, why they are there.

If you find an alternative Hospital for your cancer care, TAKE IT!!! I don't have enough energy left to write all the reasons at this moment after a nightmarish day there yesterday, as a patient's wife! After two stem cell transplants for my husband, which includes innumerable Hospital stays, visits and tests over the years, I have decided that if I were to have a cancer diagnosis, which is a very real possibility due to my family history, I will not undergo treatment. This decision is based wholly on my first-hand witnessed and experienced interactions within this Hospital. I would not place my trust and life in their hands. I am a 63 year old woman and was physically manhandled, thrown out into the cold at night on Jan. 12, 2024, by two security guards, while my husband was undergoing treatment inside for the day. I had no hat or gloves and was escorted off the property. I had no car as we were dropped off by family. We live out of town. My cell phone had died and I felt absolutely helpless and distraught beyond belief. Strangers on the street stopped as they heard me sobbing on the street and said prayers on our behalf. Strangers, and a homeless woman had more compassion than a doctor inside, who ASSUMED, that I was at fault for something I did NOT do!!! I wonder if the security guards that treated me so, so badly feel proud of themselves for hurting and possibly endangering an almost senior citizen. Bet that took a lot of power to do! The face of the doctor that led them to me, while I waited in the MRI area for my husband to get out from a procedure, is ingrained in my mind and he should be ashamed of himself! My husband is in there still right now and I am afraid to go back there. It is the weekend so I now have to wait until Monday to get in touch with anyone. Fear is not what a patient's caregiver should feel when entering a hospital! I've been through enough!!! How can a patient recover in such a surrounding? The breaking point for me is getting ever closer... I will deal with this on Monday and will not stop until I have answers. Oh, I forget to mention that they mixed up two patient's bloodwork, one being my husband's! That simple mistake led to big problems as one had a "nasty" bacterial infection while the other was fine. Wrong people were treated though! STAY CLEAR!

I'm the past two and a half years I have spent over half of that time in Juravinski Hospital as a result of various illnesses. In short, I'm extremely grateful for all they have done for me. Keeping me alive when my prognosis was very poor, on two occasions especially! It's disappointing to read posts by people who went to emergency and complain about wait times. I've learned through personal experience and discussions with medical staff that this department is extremely busy and it's impossible to please everybody, for many reasons. Complaining about wait times in the emergency departments is an exercise in futility. Expecting fast service will only happen for critical patients and you will have to wait if you've been assessed as less serious, as they are a priority. New arrivals may bump you further down the list of people waiting if more critical and this may be frustrating but ALL hospitals run this way and it is super frustrating; however, you'll appreciate this system when and if you ever are critically ill. I can certainly attest to this practice and for their being a rating scale that aims to care for the most serious first, as it saved my life! I also have spent hours waiting on stretchers to be seen, but that's just the way the system works. That said, I've received excellent care by almost all staff, including but not limited to nurses, doctors, food service personnel, diagnostic technicians, surgeons and the list goes on. I'm not suggesting that there hasn't been some staff that need attitude adjustments and might be working in the wrong field or that some procedures went wrong because it happened and that is a fact. These problems will be dealt and addressed another time. Overall, I recommend Juravinski Hospital to all who are in need of good care, but don't expect perfection because that is not realistic in my opinion. I wish everyone the best, especially those that took and are taking care of me presently. Stay safe.

I honestly though I was going to die in that hospital’s ER and no one would’ve cared. If the ambulance ever tells you they are going to this hospital, you’re better off jumping off the ambulance. I had excruciating chest and back pain that I couldn’t lay down or sit straight. I had to keep sitting in a hunched position to tolerate the pain from 10 PM until 2 PM the next day and couldn’t sleep for a minute . At 12 AM they told me that there was only one person ahead of me, fast forward to 4 AM the pain got way worse and I felt my back and chest spamming out of control and the pain became unimaginable. I asked for a pain killer, they said they can’t until I see the doctor! Then I told them that the pain is crazy that they must pay attention to me, and their answer was “sorry the doctor is busy”. Then they just rolled my bed from a partition to the corridor and just left me there (as if this was progress somehow). At 7 AM I asked where is the doctor and they said , oh the shift is over now the new shift is coming and the doctor needs to see a bunch of patients before they see me! Long story short I finally saw the doctor and turns out I had blood clots in my lung due to my leg (that I broke a couple of weeks back). So in other words, when I was having the severe pain, and they simply ignored me, I could’ve died right there and no one would’ve cared! They gave me some meds and told me that I could go back home! Now the pain is back and this was truly TRULY a traumatizing experience that I’d rather stay home and die than go to that hospital! Nurses were rude too and I have been nothing but stupidly nice to them which I honestly shouldn’t have as they treated me like an animal. Please stay away from this place

My father died this year of cancer, and the staff at the Cancer Centre couldn't have been nicer. But recently I fainted in the night. The next morning, when I called my doctor, they told me to go to the hospital and I ended up in Juravinski Emergency for 11 hours. I've never come across such a stressed-out, miserable group of staff in my life. The first nurse who saw me lambasted me for not calling 911 in the night, implied that my GP was irresponsible & told me my license would be taken away. When I asked her politely if there was any kleenex (b/c by then I was crying), she replied something to the effect of, "I don't know if we have any, but frankly, that's not really my priority right now." When an elderly Indian man whose first language clearly wasn't English, asked her for a mask, she gave him the same snarky reply. She later mocked him in front of everyone in earshot because he hadn't understood her instructions to him. She had made a rather shockingly racist comment to me earlier, presumably thinking because I was white, I would see humour in mocking people who aren't, but that's not my type of humour. I breathed a sign of relief when she left, but the nurse who came on next was also irritable. I cautiously approached her after hearing nothing from anyone for about 6 hours, and as soon as she saw me approach with a nervous, apologetic smile, she said loudly, "OH MY GOD. At this rate, I'm never going to get ANYTHING done." I understand that our healthcare system is a huge mess & that it must be incredibly stressful to be in charge of so many patients, but I can confidently say that if I faint again, I will lie on the floor happily bleeding to death before EVER going back there.

My husband woke up with partial facial paralysis on one side so we went to a walk in clinic and the doctor suspected it was Bell’s Palsy but recommended we go immediately to a hospital to get tests done to determine and treat any underlying causes. We waited for 7 hours in emergency only to have a brisk 5 minute encounter with the Dr. where she quickly identified the Bell’s Palsy, recommended steroids for treatment and tape for sleeping and said there was a 40% chance of full recovery. She gave my husband a few print outs with this information. When she returned with the prescription, we asked about any diagnostic tests that could be done to identify the cause to which she replied there are no tests like that (to which our first doctor and the internet proved false) and that this is the way we treat it and her job is to treat this episode. I asked if there were preventative measures or if this is likely to reoccur again if this is deemed an “episode” and she said no, she’s never encountered someone to have it twice. I again tried to reiterate what the walk in doctor told us but she kept saying she should have given us a note or referred us to an urgent care centre instead. I am appalled and disappointed with the bedside manner of this doctor and the care we received here. We will likely need to return to a walk in clinic to receive proper care and follow up.

The Juravinski hospital staff has been absolutely Incredible & amazing because about a year ago surgery was a success through Dr Dath & his team behind him because of their dedication & very hard work every day during covid, I am Absolutely Thankful for what they have done for me & my family during this hard time to getting closure hopefully soon during current medical circumstances after the final follow up I hugged him to say thank you.... If it wasn't for these guys in Hamilton, I wouldn't be here & they saved my life I got my life back after months of struggling. The deep words of compassion cant describe how thank & greatful i am because full gratitude, thanks & a debt can't repay Thank you to Mr Daph for everything. I really Appreciate it & incredible sir the world wouldn't be the same without you. Highly recommending going to this physician & his team If you need medical assistance will be back in the future. Made some friends with the staff in the oncology unit along the way looking up to them as role models, because of their dedication & very hard work every day because of the recovery has been a breeze making a full recovery. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses & staff at Juravinski hospital & Mc Master University for everything The Force Be With You, Live Long & Prosper

I would have given 0 stars if that was an option. My 95 year old father just passed away at Jurivinski Hospital E2 Orthopedic Ward. I can not begin to list the negligence of this ward, from not getting prescribed medication to NO COMMUNICATION. My father had dementia and developed dillerium in the hospital, not once in a month did we get called by a doctor, even after requesting a call. When we confronted the Dr. about not returning our call, he said it was after 4:30 pm and he finished at 4:30 pm. He was ready to go to Rehab when he contacted Covid; there was Covid on the ward. They decided to lock down the Ward, no visitors. They moved my 95 year old father with mental issues to a room by himself with NO WORKING PHONE. We were promised Zoom calls that never happened. We asked for a caretaker (daughter) to be allowed access. They said NO. My sister talked to the nurse taking care of him one afternoon and the nurse was dismissive saying "your father isn't going to die"; my father died the next morning. I am not saying that their negligence caused his death but SHAME ON YOU for treating any human being like that!! PS... I am somewhat amused by the responses to the negative reviews,,,reach out to "patientservices" and nothing will happen.

We have had to come to this hospital 3 times in the last month as my husband, Phil, was in the process of being diagnosed with lymphoma. Everytime, everyone has been so kind and understanding. Lots of questions, considerations etc… You can tell they are understaffed and busy (my husband had a bed in a hallway) but you can tell they care and are trying their hardest despite that. The two times we had to come back after initial visit - they knew him by name and even had a few jokes. We had to go last night and I observed all the nurses and doctors getting yelled profanities and awful things. What a sad thing to see that it didn’t even phase them - must happen so much. Kindness goes a long way and I think they had more of a reaction when ppl were kind to them. I observed them and they never stopped - running here and there, answering questions etc. I get it, health is high stress especially when you feel you are not getting the care you need - but you can still be kind and firm. Sending our love to the INCREDIBLE JURAVINSKI ER EMERGENCY ROOM nurses and doctors. We see and appreciate you all. (My son changed my profile pic, I’m not actually a 13 yrs old kid lol)

I wish I could give no stars at all. Worst hospital in hamilton. Not ALL of their staff but most don’t care how their patients are treated, They left my aunt for 6 hours unattended and she is a type 1 diabetic she went there because she was taking insulin as directed and her levels were still high around 14 when she got there and when i arrived 5 hours later they still haven’t done anything for her she was now projectile vomiting , weak and in severe pain. At this point her levels were at 19.9 they could’ve atleast gave her something to help with the nausea or pain but they treat their patients like a piece of meat. Their ER is even more ridiculous, the receptionist are RUDE and disrespectful why work in healthcare if you hate your job ! You’re supposed to care for others yet it seems most staff is just there to get a cheque. I work at a hospital myself and I’m so glad that we at-least have dignity and respect

Waited for 5 hours for my wife to be seen by a doctor. The ER nurse, white hair, caucasian with glasses on - the worst racist Karen I ever seen in my life. She was only nice to the white people and was way racist and rude to people of colour. She was extremely rude to my ill wife - we asked her only once when can we see the doctor - she extremely rude - shouted at me - “HOW MANY TIMES YOU WILL ASK ME QUESTIONS”, that Was the first time we asked her anything as she was already pretty rude to other people of colour and we were scared to ask her anything. I hope there is a training given to these stupid nurses who dont have any etiquettes, I was not able to catch her name. I understand there is a shortage of doctors and triage wait time increases, but nurses should not be racist and rude to already frustrated patients and family members. Shame to this Hospital for practising racism in the ER.

I was rushed to Juravinski in November, 2022 with a serious bacteria infection. I Jumped the que because my death was imminent vs. other surgeries at the time. Dr. Steven Kelly operated on me within hours of arrival and with the help of the CT scan, he realized that I had gangrene and that I was 1-2 days away from death. He operated and I spent a week in ICU and another week recovering on the 6th floor, and I have never been healthier. My wound has healed from the inside out and I have never felt better. I have had several follow-up visits with him, and I keep telling him that I owe my life to him. Imagine getting the Chief Surgeon to operate on me. There was a tag above my belly button that said ostimy bag, but it wasn't necessary due to his skills of surgery and fixing the problem. I intend to donate a substantial amount to Juravinski on my death, if not before.

I had to go to the emergency department as a result of stitches coming apart resulting in blood streaming from the wound. I was promptly taken to a room and checked by the nursing staff who called for a doctor to add more stitches to stop the bleeding. Dr. Julian Owen who was on night shift duty quickly sized up the situation and got the necessary freezing and equipment to close the leaking stitches. He cleaned up the blood, applied freezing and proceeded to stitch me up again. They waited about 20 minutes to be sure there was no more leaking and took a blood test to check the plasma levels. While waiting for the test results ice was applied to the area due to the swelling. When the results came back I was cleared to return home. I must say that this experience in the emergency department was very good and Dr. Owen and the night shift team were excellent.

I have been visiting my wife at Juravinski for over a week and had parked to the left of the front entrance a couple of times in one of the disabled spots until I saw a car parked in one of the disabled spots with a parking ticket with a disabled card displayed in the front window and now I know what the little letters on the disable sign must mean "fees apply". Is this legal or just a cash grab? MTO exempts you from paying for parking on a city street for 3 hours. I am 80 yrs old with one replaced knee and the other in bad shape and have been going to help my wife eat her lunch etc. and am grateful for her care. I guess the parking fees for disabled caregivers has left a bad taste in my mouth.

THEY HAVE A BAD BED BUG INFESTATION!!! And management did not report it. They slipped it under the rug. They ship elderly to nursing homes, try ship people all over through city housing. All of Hamilton will be infested just like Paris is right now if they do not contact public health and take proper steps they’re supposed to. I’m writing this review to warn anyone and everyone DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. Not unless you want to be losing thousands and thousands of dollars worth of belongings and having to pay pest control yourself after juravinski management clearly admitted they have bed bugs. That it is their fault. After they put you in a bed/chair infested in THEIR hospital.

From the first person in registration to the last post op nurse was a positive experience. I believe it was Kristin in same day surgery giving me instructions and items to change into, Chris putting in the IV and preparing me for surgery, Antonio and Melissa in recovery and then to Hazel in post op. All of them were fabulous and had fantastic bed side manner. Do not let Antonio go after his studies. He was extremely caring and so positive, he is well suited for the job. I was in great care and in a well organize and clean facility. Oh all most forgot Dr. Forbes and his team in surgery were fabulous too, so calming and reassuring. THANK YOU SO MUCH JEN

Had my gallbladder removed a week ago via Same Day Surgery and it was amazing. From the first person in registration to the last nurse in post op was a smooth and positive experience. I would like to thank nurses Tracy and Sheri in pre op for their kindness, patience and care. I don't remember the name of the nurse in recovery but she was extremely professional and comforting. Nurse Katrina in post op was excellent too. The anesthesiologist was very kind and gave me so much confidence. And of course Dr. Tandan and his team in surgery were very professional, reassuring and fabulous too. Thank you to all nurses, doctors and staff at Juravinski Hospital

If I could put 0 stars I would. This hospital is horrible. My grandmother was on palliative care on E3 for a week and we couldn’t wait to take her home. The nurses left the patient next to her for hours sitting in his feces and even served him his dinner while he was sitting in that mess. Most of the nurses were not compassionate at all and rough when dealing with patients and rude to the family. Luckily my aunts are PSW’s and took care of my grandma. We are a big family and the nurses kept complaining and trying to limit our visits. We will never let another family member be taken to this place again.

I went to the CIBC Breast Clinic today for a follow-up ultrasound. When I arrived I was checked in and told to wait in the next room. My name was called. The technician took me in a room and asked me who had made the appt. I told her it was the clinic and I had a follow up call the day before. She accused me of false info. as my next appt. is in June 2024. I had the appt. letter, but she wasn't interested in seeing it. This certainly could have been handled in a different manner if an error on their part was made (which it was). I don’t appreciate being talked to like that and in a derogatory tone.

Honestly one of the worst waiting times 7 hours and still no doctor. Chest pains doesn’t matter even though it’s sharp they keep telling u soon and no approx time like seriously I thought chest pains are a serious matter. Nurse after I got in and still waiting 1 hour for doctor tells me sorry there’s people dying that come first. What is a point then to be cautious and come to avoid dying better to die then. Waste of time missed the most important event because of this. CEO really needs to be involved with helping patients not killing them

  • Andy M

For the last 4 years I have received nothing but the best, most sympathetic care. The entire staff - from the parking attendant to the most senior staff - all offer their time and help when asked. Professional, courteous, kind - the best care provided using leading edge research and medical technology. They have kept me alive and enjoying a good quality of life despite my illness. Always honest and guiding me through this journey. I’m so glad I’m under their care, as is my family.

Only two staff members here made me feel like a patient. Props to Sindy from the E2 wing & Wayne, the therapist whose assistant in my staying longer at the hospital, allowed me in my recovery from the moyamoya stroke. The doctor assigned to me forgot about me on one of his rounds because he "had too many patients that night and forgot about me" his words and today he "has 46 patients to see so if I don't see him today to please forgive him. Like am I not a patient assigned to him?

I had the occasion to seek medical attention at the hospital on two occasions, and I was extremely impressed with the level of care that was exhibited by all parties. The nurses, doctors, and other staff members on the Same Day Surgery Unit were caring, and made my experience an exceptionally pleasant one. I wish them and their families all the best, and thank them for reminding me that there is still hope for us humans in this ever changing world. Kudos to you all.

This is a disgusting bed bug infested hospital, they are literally everywhere. Most of the nurses are extremely lazy and inconsiderate on many wards. Some of the CSS team leaders are incompetent and curropt, especialy Dave Disamonie. I find most the porters and E.A cleaning staff to be fairly polite and accomidating but other then that this Hospital is completely out of order and goes against many health code violations.

Our health system has collapse and this institution is clearly a proof of it, I drop my wiffe in at 6pm at the emergency room to wait for 8 hours and only u an urine test was done, we had to leave, I tried to talk to someone in charge and was told their resources and staff are very limited, basically I was reassured of my thoughts you have better chances of driving to Toronto and being observed in less time.

It was well managed in the Covid screening. Then a short line for Dr. Then short wait to see the ever amazing Dr. Winemaker. This is my second visit . He replaced my knee for a second time 7 years ago. Now my hip. The first knee was done in the U.S.A. and not done well. I could call a cab at the door or Darts. Love it. The hospital is just as good.

I had the absolute most amazing experience for my surgery at this hospital! From patient registration right until discharge everything was absolutely amazing! Thank you to all of the health care workers for all that you do! This includes all the cleaners and the administrative staff! Your job is definitely not gone unnoticed!

My grandad had a hip replacement via Same Day Surgery, and it was an amazing experience. I cannot emphasize how kind and patient the pre-Op nurse, anesthesiologists, OR nurse, physio, post op nurse, and even environmental services were ! I've never seen such a beautiful caring team in a hospital before.

Had random extreme pain lower right side out of nowhere. I had an ambulance ride to jurvanski, although the wait is always going to be a concern, they managed to get the CT scan, diagnosis and pain management under control for next day release. My pain is gone, thank you to all the courteous staff.

Had a great experience through and through. Did not meet one single person through the Same Day surgery/ Same Day Overnight recovery that wasn’t helpful, genuine, and kind. Lori-Ann and Sandra were the two nurses that stuck out to me the most. Their bedside manner was 12/10. Thank you!

I spent five days there last week. I was sent by my family doctor to check for a stroke. From the time I was admitted to the ER until I was discharged on December 1st the care and treatment were excellent. The nurses were very caring. I couldn't ask for better care.

Doctor Jeffrey greenspoon likes harassing women online whilst refusing to give proper treatment to anyone that isn’t “white”. This hospital is filled with confirmation bias that is exasperated upon the prejudice and racist beliefs promoted by such doctors.

The volunteer was very friendly and helpful. The staff were also very kind and cheerful, notwithstanding the nature of their work. Some of the furniture in the visitors area was dated, but overall very clean and a good experience as a visitor.

My mom spent a month there last fall. The hopsital itself is very nice and has good amenities (gift shop, cafeterias etc). A lot of the rooms are starting to get quite run down but almost all of the staff were amazing!
