We went for thanksgiving dinner tonight. Not busy at all. Our waitress was nice and got our drink order. We ordered our food no worries there. I was sad they were out of croutons for my salad but it was already coming out so I settled for crackers again no worries. My husbands chicken fried steak was a bit small along with his sides but still okay. The problem wasn’t the food it was the roach that was crawling on the wall near where I was sitting and we had already finished eating. This is the reason for the 1 star. I am so grossed out and feel sick to my stomach from eating there now. I jumped up out of my booth and went to the front to pay and leave. I wanted to tell a manager but didn’t want to cause a scene on thanksgiving. I’m sorry but this is just not acceptable to have roaches where you eat. I can only imagine where else they are. The restaurant wasn’t dirty so I’m not sure what happened but please get some pest control Asap for both your employees sakes and your patrons. We will never eat there again. Again the food was fine but the roach is just a line I can’t get over.

I usually like Jim's. But my experience at the Potranco/1604 location was absolutely dismal. The food was poorly prepared and loaded with enough oil that it formed pools on the plate. I chose biscuits as my bread option and regretted it immediately when my food arrived. They must have been left over from the breakfast shift, because they were very hard and fell to crumbles if you attempted to cut them. The waitress kept trying to compensate me with additional food items. Not sure why she thought I'd want more bad food as compensation for other bad food. I've noticed most Jim's locations going downhill since covid. This one was just the final straw. Unless no other options are available, I'll be avoiding Jim's from here on out.

I heard a little about this restaurant from family, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I liked everything I had. My fried mushrooms were cooked perfectly, the onion rings and French fries were delicious, the chicken strips are an awesome size, and I personally had one of their burgers. I got the Ol' Smoky burger and added sauteed mushrooms and grilled jalapenos. The flavor of the Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce added with the perfectly cooked burger patty and toasted sesame seed bun was epic. Then, their cream gravy was phenomenal with the fried mushrooms. On top of all of that, our server Jasmine was awesome at her job, answered our questions, and treated us nicely. Also, the manager Shane was really polite and professional. I definitely suggest trying this place out if you're looking for that homestyle type of comfort food.

We visit this Jim's about once a month for breakfast. Today's visit was definitely better than the other visits! We arrived pretty early in the morning so we were sat right away to a newly disinfected table! Our waitress Christy came right over for drink order and brought them back very quickly. She took our food order with a bright and bubbly attitude. About 5 minutes later she brought our food out, with all the fixings! Salt, pepper, Cholula, hot sauce, butter you name it! My wife got the kids breakfast with bacon and over easy eggs, the egg was runny just how she likes it, the bacon crispy and the hash browns cooked to perfection! I got the Texas omelette with grits! All the meat was perfect and the omelette cooked perfectly! Christy definitely made this visit great, we hope to get her again in the future!

I've been to several Jim's locations but this was the first time at the 1604 and Potranco location. We ordered the sampler appetizer, chicken fried steak dinner with mac-n-cheese and green beans. Catfish and shrimp dinner with mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, green beans. A slice of pecan pie and lemon meringue pie and two teas. The fried mushrooms were a little soggy and everything was a little too salty!!! But overall everything was good! I'm a lover of well seasoned not bland food but it was just a little too salty!!! Please have the cook to cut down on the salt!!! Thanks and Blessings!

While the food had good flavor, I was slightly disappointed at how long it took to get seated, be able to order, and get the food out to us. Waited at the front to be told where to sit for several minutes before seeing someone who then told us to wait a little longer before someone could seat us. Our server, Zac, did his absolute best to make sure we had everything we needed and was friendly even though he was staffed with an entire column of tables. Shoutout to Zac! My salad was missing croutons and the chicken fried steak that was also ordered was missing the Texas toast that came with it. After waiting as long as we did, we didn’t even feel the need to say anything about it.

Well, it's diner fare. Classic stuff like chicken fried steak, hamburgers, and omelettes. The wait staff was super friendly and efficient. Nothing over-the-top amazing, but they do have a good cup of coffee and some peace and quiet. Great anytime as long as you don't expect it to be anything other than it is, a great diner.

Waitress continued to lick her fingers while serving us. We asked management to switch waitress, who ignored our request. Lastly, this was the silverware served to us. We walked out, and let management know again that service needed improvement. We were again ignored. No one including the hostess seemed to be bothered that we were served dirty silverware. As I was informing hostess about the dirty silverware, she walked away while I was still talking. Which is very concerning. This was our first, and last time coming to this place. We left before being served, I’m just glad I noticed the dirty fork before my little girl got a hold of it. Eat at your own risk.

I’ve lived in TX for 12 years and have never been here and decided to try it at the request of my husband for breakfast. They don’t have any turkey products to sub out the pork, which I thought every restaurant had nowadays. I was offered chicken fried chicken but I’m sorry, I don’t want something that heavy for breakfast. I settled on an omelette and it was good, there weren’t many toppings to select but it was ok. The grits were not good as they were instant and the biscuits were hard. Our waitress was great and the experience wasn’t horrible but I wouldn’t return for breakfast. If I return, I’ll try lunch or dinner options.

We found this place as we were passing through San Antonio, so no idea what we were getting into all we knew they sold breakfast all day so it was a nice alternative to IHOP. We got our food so fast we didn't notice the red flags of cleanliness of the restaurant, the food was actually good everyone in our party enjoyed it, but the place really needed cleaning. From the tables to the horrible restrooms (men&women) I wouldn't even order take out. After really looking around it ruined my appetite and I didn't even want to try the delicious looking dessert they had on display.

If there was a zero, I'd select it. Change your 24 hour open sign Jim's to close at 10:00 and teach your employees ( manager) not to flick us off who are asking why your closed when your sign says open 24 hours! We were asking politely not rudely. THEN you blatantly allowed 2 people in after you said no to me, my husband, 2 grandkids and my son...RIGHT in front of us!! Then told us it was members of YOUR OWN family...really! We've been going to Jim's for over 40 years! Not no more. Get a new professional manager. His rude actions to us were uncalled for and ruined our night ( coming from the Army v UTSA football game). Location was 1604 & potranco.

Food was great, chorizo breakfast tacos and eggs Benedict were our orders. Service we were seated fast, drinks were ordered and delivered in a timely manner, food was brought out quickly, refills were dropped off in passing so we didn't have to wait. The only thing that took a long time was waiting on the bill, we were clearly done with our meal and waited what felt like another 10 minutes.

This Jim's treats us with such friendliness every time we walk through the door. The restaurant seems a little newer than the other Jim's we've been to and appears cleaner than the others as well. The food is so consistent. My wife likes the soup and sandwich combo while I like their spaghetti. If you haven't been, give them a try.

I have not to a Jim's in a long time. I actually think the last time was when I did not possess a phone. Lol. My daughter and I went there for lunch when we were in the area from visiting family. Nice place, it was bigger inside than it looked from the outside. They sat us down quickly, our server was a gentleman. He did his job well he even had the patience for us and our delayed time of choosing what we wanted. The food was delicious but the dessert was even better. We had a great time. We will go back again if we are in the area.

The people are really nice. My eggs came out swimming in grease and my hash browns were severely undercooked and my toast was just buttered with some neon yellow butter and not even enough to cover more than the middle of the toast. . Tried it twice just to confirm and thought maybe someone was having a bad day in the kitchen... Nope. It was consistently bad. . After I ate I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the day. Don't know if it was the food or not. Again the employees were super nice and welcoming the food is just not good.

Good portions at reasonable prices. Food came quickly even with the apparent shortage of staff (sign outside said they were hiring). Food was hot and tasty. I got the chili which was delicious; however, my chocolate milkshake, although tasty, was not very thick. Waitress was cheerful and attentive. The person at the register, where we paid our bill at, was not cheerful at all, though. She barely smiled if at all and didn't thank us for coming.

I'm so glad the South Texas Eggs Benedict Jalopeno gravy skillet is back. It's only available during the San Antonio Rodeo. Well it's my favorite and Jim's didn't disappoint! My daughter's Eggs Benedict, hashbrowns, and fruit was prepared fresh, hot, and she enjoyed it. The dining room was clean, and our waiter was fast, helpful, and friendly.

Service was excellent. The only thing I didn't care for too much was the food. It was really bland with not much flavoring, and the green beans were still frozen. I'm very disappointed, especially since I've heard a ton of great things about the Thanksgiving Dinner Plate from Jim's from quite a few people. We'll definitely be trying somewhere else next year.

I'm always a fan of Jims. They have good food and a friendly staff. The restaurants are usually clean, although occasionally, a sticky table is an issue. I did get a small mistake on my last order, I had asked for grits and got hashbrowns instead. But I can't complain too much because it was so good!

Place is pretty good for a hearty breakfast. This visit I had the Texas omelet. Omelet is stuffed with cheese, ham and bacon. Of course it also has the veggies in it. Wife had the pork chop breakfast with a couple over medium eggs and a side of French toast. Staff is always friendly and quick.

The a/c was not working, and it made for a bad experience. The food was pretty standard for brunch at Jim's. My daughter loved her eggs Benedict, my niece enjoyed her pancakes with a huge side of hash browns. The enchiladas were OK. I shared the patty melt with my wife and we both enjoyed it. It is burning inside. We went there a couple months ago and it was hot. Clearly, the A/C was out. We gave it some time for them to fix before we went back. We went back and it's still the same. Their women's bathroom is a sauna, you can't use it without coming out drenched in sweat!

Went here today for lunch and it was a little busy. Was told it would be a 20 min wait, but we were seated pretty quickly. Our waiter was very energetic and super friendly. Going to Jim's was short notice. The waiting staff was friendly but took more than 25 mins to get a omelet and a chicken sandwich and there was approximately 10 people. Maybe I was just hungry you get impatient when your hungry. We will definitely go there in the future it was still enjoyable.

First time visiting Texas and wanted to eat where the locals go. Saw their parking lot full and lobby as well so I figured it had to be good...and it was! In-house made biscuits and our food was delicious. Our server Alfredo was very friendly and made sure our coffee and drink was always full. Definitely worth the wait.

My husband and I LOVE Jim’s. Weekend mornings are busy but the food is always made to order and great! And if it’s not, they’re always happy to fix it for you. Jim's is usually really good and I don't ever have an issues there. Normally 5 stars all day. That being said, our last trip there was just bad all the way around. The service (lack there of) was terrible. Impossible to get drinks refilled, appetizer came out with meal (which took over 45 min for eggs and a hamburger), still waiting on bottle of Cholula, and hamburger bun burnt to a crisp.

We always enjoy having dinner at Jim's. This time, the pork chops were not cooked well they were still bloody. Didn't have time, so I didn't send them back. But I will definitely let someone know next time. Our food also sat on the ready counter a long time.

I went in for a Famous Jim’s Charbroiled burger but opted for the Chicken and Swiss, Strawberry pie, and Strawberry Lemonade! Delish! We just went in for pie and coffee. The pie and coffee were good. The service was not so great. I think that may be the waitress thought since we weren’t ordering much we wouldn’t it very well. She made a HUGE mistake. We are excellent tippers. She forgot us, and I had to wave her down for a refill of coffee. And then didn’t see her until we went up to pay.

has some of the best brownies ive ever eaten, the staff is fantastic, and the tortilla soup i never get tired of. the fries are also really good i steal a few from my mom every time.

I had driven past Jim’s every day and I just never thought about it much.Then I walked in by chance and I had no idea that this food was on another level!!!!!!!!! Awesome food

Worst service! My 2 children and I sat for 30 minutes waiting for a table. Larger parties that came after us were sat before us. When asked how much longer, they told me it would be 10 to 15 minutes more. Never coming back.

Theres always an issue 1-2 hours of closing time. Either “closing because its understaffed”, or “closing for routine maintenance”, it happens frequently enough to be noticed. Its hard to make money if youre not open.

Came here October 1st for dinner. We were seated right away. The food and service was very good. About the only disappointment was the toast was a little burnt, but not bad. I'm sure we will be back a lot.

How is this even acceptable to come out of the kitchen, then get upset with the customer because it was not wanted.

Staff was most accommodating. Decaf coffee tasted like it was brewing for days. Had to refuse it. Otherwise food was delicious!

The food was pretty good too, I had a cheeseburger and it was tasty! My fiancé had the shrimp platter and it wasn’t great but my mom had the blueberry pancakes and they were good!

Nice staff. Food was good. Definitely needs cleaning and updating.

Friendly service with a smile. The food here is not bad at all. I really love their pancakes! If you are in the mode for pancakes they have the best around.
