I had a fabulous first visit to Dr. Cohen and the Southwest Family Medicine Association. A lifetime of less than stellar experiences in doctors' offices has definitely made me more than a bit anxious to darken the door of any facility that's not a quick "doc in the box" urgent care setup (when I am at death's door). I usually lie to myself and say it's because of my previous lack of insurance but even when I had it, I never went. Who am I kidding? I hate going to the doctor. The Facility: Clean and no sterile ersatz or blinding, buzzing light. The office has several chairs in different configurations so you're not guaranteed to be staring directly at a stranger while you wait wheezing in discomfort for your appointment (yay!). Abstract art was pleasantly ubiquitous. Service: Not one person who came in contact with me didn't smile and that means EVERYTHING (especially during the check-in process!). Which is great because I think part of me was looking for any excuse to leave and head straight back to my comfort zone. I didn't know that they're a one stop shop and have a lab onsite so everything can be done in one visit. Dr. Cohen offered to have my annual done and over with while I was there and I greatly appreciated it. Took no time at all and saved me another trip (or let's face it, another missed opportunity to know what my body is up to). Not having to fast for blood work is an indescribable plus! Also, blood draw was completely painless. I didn't even know I had a needle in me at first. Serious hout-outs to the phlebotomist! Dr. Cohen: Kind, personable, and understanding (let's face it, those are rare traits in the profession). I never once felt like I was being "talked down to" or that I needed to sensor my answers in order to avoid disdainful judgement. She seemed utterly human with a personality and everything. The visit was fast and although there was cold metal in one of my more sacred orifaces for a portion of it, that was the only real discomfort during the process. She is incredibly knowledgeable and when I went into ultra Terminator defense mode about my depression (as I am want to do without prompting), she didn't push me into any treatment I was uncomfortable with but instead listed off several possible options and left the ball in my court. There's an online portal system they have so you can check your billing and message your doc directly if you need to. Which is great because you can avoid direct confrontation, amirite?!?! All in all, a five out of five. Admittedly, I'm more than a little excited about having a real physician's care again so I'm not self diagnosing via Google search whenever things go awry. This is a novel length review.

Since we moved to TX 6 years ago, we've struggled to find a doctor who would be the right "fit": Someone who takes her patients seriously, educates and empowers them, listens well, and offers thoughtful suggestions. If you assumed these are the basic qualifications of the profession, you'd be disappointed by a lot of doctors in Dallas-- but not by Dr. Cohen. She does all of those things with professionalism and tact. For example, when I expressed my anxiety about a certain routine exam, she took my fears seriously and told me there were certain precautions she could take to ensure the exam wasn't painful. No other doctor I've ever had has been so thoughtful. Likewise, she dignified my approach to managing my general anxiety and, remembering I had stated earlier in the appointment that I try not to take medicines unless I've exhausted all other options, she offered several thoughtful suggestions for lifestyle adjustments and supplements I could try (in contrast to other doctors who have wanted either to write a quick prescription or not be bothered). I felt heard, understood, and empowered, treated as a human instead of just a collection of symptoms or an academic subject. The office itself also seems well thought-out. There's an urgent care and a pharmacy in the same building, which is refreshingly NOT a huge hospital annex but an accessible single-story standalone building with plenty of parking. Finally, the appointment ran on time (we arrived 10 minutes earlier to fill out our new-patient forms), we were never sitting around waiting in either the reception area or the treatment rooms, and we never felt rushed during the appointment.

Dr. Cohen is the most personable and friendly doctor I have ever had in my lengthy and troubled history I’ve had with doctors. I moved here to Dallas from Alabama in January and gave this place a chance because of their ratings. The ratings don’t do justice for this place! The entire staff is extremely friendly and Dr. Cohen gives personalized analysis not just the books that most doctors give just because of diagnosis. She understand that each person is different and knows how personalize her treatment in order to make the patient as healthy as can be. Just go further, she has helped me in my weight loss by personalizing suggestions in my diet and I have now not only lost more than 20lbs, but also progressed my blood pressure and other health issues that I was experiencing that no doctor in my past caught in their analysis. As long as I am here in Dallas, and she’s practicing here, I will stick with her as my physician. 100% recommend.

Dr. Cohen is an amazing Dr. She has the best bedside manners and very patient. She is very thorough and spends time listening, explaining and putting a plan in place for next steps. I always leave the office feeling my questions/issues have been addressed and feeling good about the visit. She is never rushed or make me feel as though I'm just another patient. She makes me feel as though I'm her ONLY patient :)... I have seen other Docs and NP's in the practice and they are all very good as well. I am very picky about the Dr’s I see and Dr. Cohen really exceeded my expectations. She was really thorough and listened to every concern I had. Ive been having an ongoing issue and Dr. Cohen gave really good medical advice to continue to pinpoint my health issues. She came across like she truly cared for my well being rather than just a “number” to her. Her medical assistant Marcus, was also excellent. Very humble and nice guy, made me feel comfortable throughout the process and was very helpful. Thank you both for making my visit pleasant.

I was looking for an LGBTQI+ friendly doctor here in Dallas, TX who would help me with my MtF transition. I found Dr. Cohen's name online and decided to set up an appointment back in May of last year. Dr. Cohen is an amazing doctor. She is kind, friendly and professional. I never felt uneasy talking tohto She knows what she's doing and answered all my questions. I definitely recommend Dr. Cohen to people like me who'd want to start (or continue) their transition with a friendly-professional doctor.

what a wonderful staff , they know me by name if i have any concerns i call and get an imediate responcr . wheni am in office the staff is so attentive . I am so happy to have dr coehn as my primary phisiscian she takes her time with me and my spouse since she sees us both at the same time , we are so comfortable with her and can tell her anything . the best part is we dont feel rushed in and out . i leave knowing my health is being taken care of compitently with compassion .

Dr. Cohen is probably the best doctor I’ve had. She has a warm and welcoming environment and makes sure whatever challenge or concern you bring up is taken seriously. It doesn’t matter how private or personal an issue is. I also personally don’t like taking a whole lot of medication to treat symptoms if I don’t have to. She listens to my preferences and creates a treatment plan I am comfortable with while making sure it will fix my problem. 100% recommended this doctor!

Dr. Cohen was amazingly knowledgeable. It was my 1st visit and I felt like she knew me already, she examine and ask questions that truly met my needs and helped me. I shared with her that I prefer herbal\remedies before chemical meds and she was welcoming and supportive. Awaiting my blood work to see my next step...whatever step it is, I've found a great supportive Dr., that will support and help me on my New Journey of being a heathier & better me!!!! So Grateful

Dr Cohen was great and seemed nice. She was very friendly and patient. She answered all of my questions and concerns patiently. The reason why I gave 4 starts because of the messiness of the waiting area and also my checking wait. Waiting area was a bit messy with trash and didn’t have enough staffs to clean up or check me in. There was only one staff at the front desk and she was busy checking one of the patient and so I stood there for good 7 minutes.

Always a wonderful experience with Dr. Cohen. I have some unexplained recurring medical issues that are scary to me. Dr. Cohen always puts me at ease and makes me feel safe in the fact that she is very thorough and will get it figured out. The whole office staff is wonderful and they always have a smile and a kind word. I can't say enough about this practice, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Cohen. She is absolutely amazing.

My first experience with Dr. Cohen's office this week. Honestly the most thorough exam I have ever had. Relocating to Dallas and not having an established doctor is incredibly stressful. I've been seeing Dr. Cohen for a year and a half now - best decision I've made. I like her approach to treatment by getting to know the patient before prescribing a cut and dry RX.
