There is a great variety of art class choices for different people and budgets. There is also opportunity to receive financial assistance or for children to receive free art education through community partner programming around the city. IF you have time and money, then you have a real opportunity to take classes from some of the very best artists in the city. But the very best part of the Indianapolis Art Center is free. The exhibitions inside the Art Center galleries feature work by nationally acclaimed artists, as well as young blooming artists and students too. There is no other gallery in Indianapolis as diverse and eclectic as the Art Center. Additionally, the sculpture park is also free and a beautiful place to experience art and nature. Another amazing thing is the history. The building itself is designed by Michael Graves -- who is from Broad Ripple too -- and was picked by Joyce Sommers herself. In the words of Kurt Vonnegut: "The Art Center is an example of America at its most Utopian -- peaceful, welcoming to one and all, and boundlessly optimistic."

Roughly two years ago, I was going through a very rough patch in my life and a friend decided to take a professional jewelry class with me. The class was a bit expensive but had a lot of excellent content and was worth the expenditure given the amount of time for instruction. At first, I experienced a creativity block and did not know how or what I wanted to do but eventually, the class helped me open up emotionally as well as creatively. My fellow students were very friendly and welcoming as well as encouraging even though I experienced lack of confidence in my projects. Eventually, I made several incredibly difficult life changes that are leading me down a promising new path with a bright future. I can't thank the art center enough for their patient instructors and my fellow students that showed me love and friendship when I needed it most. Truly art can be a wonderful form of therapy.

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony only here this spring. Brylie and Abby were both wonderful to work with. They communicated professionally and quickly with us via email and in person. For those on a budget, the Sunday price is well worth it, especially for a venue in Indianapolis and what they provide. Multiple options to choose from both inside and outside (it’s tough to decide!), chair set up/tear down, spaces to get ready in, plenty of parking, galleries for your guests to look at, and so many beautiful spots for photos. Abby was with us for the big day and I can’t thank her enough for helping us with making sure everything went smoothly. And the arts center is a great asset to the community! I know, I’ve also taken several classes there thanks to their scholarship program. I’m so glad that we were able to get married here. It was lovely.

IAC directed my wife to the wrong workshop, and no roll call was taken to ensure she was in the right workshop. These mistakes were acknowledged via phone by staff afterwards and accompanied by an apology. However, they refused to refund the cost of the intended workshop despite admitting that the issue was their fault. FYI for all... IAC will not do anything but apologize if there's an issue with a class / workshop that's entirely their responsibility. Disappointing as we were going to register members of our family for other classes / workshops. That has changed and we won't be giving IAC any of our money ever again. We also don't recommend that anyone reading this do so with any confidence.

The outside area is pretty with some interesting sculptures, and nicely shaded by green tunnels. The nearby river is calming, with some decent views via the wooden walking platforms. You can also stroll right down to the water if you don’t mind getting a little dirty. The art on display when I visited today is a little too leftwing for my tastes, but hey, that’s art. I wouldn’t bring children through it. I’m not in town long enough to take any classes, but it seems really cool. There is a nice little library down one of the halls. The art center looks nice and pretty well maintained, and the few staff members I ran into seemed polite and helpful.

The Indianapolis Art Center is an incredible asset to the community that delivers such remarkable benefit! Our non-profit is so grateful to have been able to rent this wonderful space. The atmosphere, communication, and contact with the IAC for our free positive parenting event was exemplary; and the provided equipment was wonderfully helpful. The space was set up and ready to go when we arrived and it was generally the easiest, most fluid part of organizing and hosting an event. We feel lucky to have such an asset in the area for places like ourselves to host events and engage with our community members. Thank you, IAC!

STAY AWAY from their classes ! 1) I signed up for 2 classes that got cancelled due to low enrollment, One of them was cancelled last minute! It messed up my schedule and all my childcare arrangements. 2) They did not provide a practical alternative art activity, just offered money back. 3) Very disappointing service from an art institution considering you get much better service and more options from just a free drop-in activity at a local library such as Fishers Library's Ignite studio. No wonder why their enrollments are low!

I hosted an event at the Indianapolis Art Center for a prominent health institute and received the best treatment by the staff and facility. 80+ chairs were set up in the library space with an AV system for the keynote speaker. The windows and skylight letting in nature and light were part of a beautiful ambiance. All the staff and namely Brylie and Abby are very professional, friendly, and accommodating. Ample and accessible parking. Plus, supporting the IAC felt great. Thank you —I’ll be back!

We recently rented the Library for a party for our family and friends. Kate and the staff were very helpful during the planning process and were responsive to all of our questions. Our guests really enjoyed the venue and the party was a success. We worked with one of their approved caterers for the food and drinks, and that process was smooth as well. Would highly recommend the Art Center as a venue for a party or special event!

The Indianapolis Art Center is my new favorite happy place as the art lover I am. You can visit the Indianapolis Art Center to discover the work of amazing artists. Take Art and creative classes for you or children. When I visited them, the work of the artist Bad Habbit was being exhibited. She’s such a talented artist. It was also the 50th birthday of the center, so they had an amazing fair which I really enjoyed.

  • David Gabovitch

I recently hosted a surprise birthday party for my wife at the Art Center (in the library) and it could not have gone better. Brylie and Abby were extremely helpful from when I first contacted them up through the night of the event. It was a little bit of a unique event and they made it very easy for me to pull off the surprise. The venue worked perfectly, ample parking and a great location!

  • Steven Zimmer

I had a private group take part in their glass making and heir ceramics class. Number 1 organizing this all with the event manager was amazingly simple and they were more than willing to work with us. Number 2, the instructors were great. You can tell they thoroughly love their jobs and sharing art with others. Number 3 and most importantly, our group had an absolute blast.

  • Amber Love

Absolutely beautiful campus, with events scheduled throughout the year. The installations on the grounds are always really cool, but even without the structures, there are benches and an overlook from which to watch the river. I love seeing the seasons change here. The classes I've attended have also been worth every penny, particularly the glass blowing. Highly recommend!

  • Joni Heredia

I love visiting the Indianapolis Art Center and the Arts park. Sometimes on saturdays, they host an art fair with all kinds of art, jewelry, and a beautiful things for sale. They often host community activities such as pumpkin painting for Halloween. Inside the Indianapolis Art Center they have several art galleries, and a beautiful library, which is free to visit.

  • Nancy Williams

Easy to find. Easy to park. Lots to see inside. Friendly staff. The exhibits and the river were awesome. My main goal was seeing "the crooked house in the woods". My kid is disabled and while there was ramps to walk, the transition from sidewalk to path was rough. The platform to the river was not accessable via wheelchair but amblitory ppl can access it easily.

My husband and I got married at the Indianapolis Art Center this Spring. We had an extremely fun wedding at such a beautiful venue! Throughout the planning process, the Art Center was great to work with! They were organized and communicative as we planned the big day. We loved it! I definitely reccomend the Indianapolis Art Center as a great wedding venue!

  • Savannah Ball (SavannahNicole528)

Recently, worked with Brylie England and the Indianapolis Art Center for a fundraiser I hosted. The venue was stunning, the guests had a wonderful time and she made the event as pain free and easy as possible :) My organization is looking at hosting another event here later this year and I would absolutely recommend to someone looking for an event venue.

  • Brett Bailey

Attended a wedding here. Snobby, pretentious, crappy art, rude staff, no clue how to organize a wedding. The art reminded me of someone trying way, way to hard to be "cool and creative". Unless you like looking at dirty socks and cigarette butts made of bees wax and a banana sitting next to a grape vine in a glass case, do not go here.

Copper printmaking class by Kalleen was great fun. She taught us then let us go - but was there with a rag or advice when needed. The Indy art center is taking many measures to prevent the spread of Covid19. This was my first venture out of quarrantine other than food gathering and I am pleased I went.

My 12 yr old son attend a six week woodworking class and he absolutely loved it! His teacher was very nice and seemed to enjoy teaching the students about woodworking. He would come and tell me what he learned in the class. I will be enrolling him soon in the near future for more woodworking courses.

  • Matthew Gross (Matt)

Booked a workshop class a couple of months in advance. Found out shortly before I wouldn't be able to make it. I called to cancel and was told no refund since it was too close to the class date. Yes, the cancellation policy is posted. But no flexibility or consideration for unexpected life events.

I did a mother and son afternoon here we had such a great time enjoying beautiful art. We also bought some beautiful art pieces too. We had such a great time a few weeks later we came with friends. Little late on my sharing but I highly recommend going even in the winter or summer it’s beautiful.

  • Jaime Chanter

Such a great spot! We walked the trails and saw the sculptures. We headed inside to warm up at the little coffee shop. The library was cozy and clean with even some sweet little kid art books. The inside galleries were super cool and the workshops looked fascinating!

  • Shirley Green

The Indianapolis Art Center hosted a fantastic team building event for our group. Couldn't have been happier with the whole process. Great opportunity for our colleagues to connect with each other, and the classes were all very well delivered and received.

Brylie and the staff at The Art Center were incredibly professional and helpful with the event we put on in both the Library and the Auditorium. I would highly suggest using The Art Center for any events you may want to host.

  • Kim Staley

We have hosted our company holiday party at the Indianapolis Art Center for many years. The staff is a delight and the accommodations are perfect for our group. Always happy to return to the Indianapolis Art Center!

  • T Shirley

Lazy staff, no general knowledge of their posted policies or follow-up to issues. Grounds are reasonably maintained but interior is dirty with some areas like the library in need of maintenance.

  • Dede King

Open air setting museum! I just love art, no matter the setting or location and this one is just lovely! Lots of fun, contemporary items. You can even interact with some! Be a part of the art!

  • Salma Bakr

Was looking forward to this art center, but found it closed during opening hours, and even the artspark was dark so we couldn’t see anything. Will try to revisit when in Indianapolis again!
