My house mates had been for treatments here many times before and had raved about it but I had never had the opportunity to go. However, this weekend just gone I went in for a bikini wax and it was the best experience I have ever had. Firstly, the decor inside is so cute. It's set out like a tiki bar and it's all very vintage and pin-up-esque. All of the staff look like tasteful pin up girls themselves and they are walking advertisements for how good their treatments are. From the moment you come in you are treated like a friend, the girls who work there are very warm and friendly and really care about you. After having had a very painful and somewhat traumatising experience the first time I went for a bikini wax I was exceptionally nervous. George (owner) noticed this and took the time to reassure me. They served us lemon and honey tea and were very attentive. The lady who did my wax (I forgot her name but she was lovely) was so friendly and reassuring. And honestly - it barely hurt at all. I never knew that waxing could be anything but a horrendous experience to be endured. I wouldn't go as far as to say I enjoyed it but I definitely left there feeling happy and confident. My review is mostly praising up the establishment and the waxing services but I have had friends who have had eyelashes and nails who also rate them highly. Treat yourself and make an appointment! I only wish they did spa services as well!

I love Hula Nails. This beauty stop is a one off: 1940/60's glamour-puss inspired, retro, goodness. In terms of decor, I don't think they could do much better. It is difficult not to feel glamorous as soon as you walk in. The staff look as wonderful as the venue itself too, dolled up in curls, cool tattoos and funky uniforms. Even better than this, they are very welcoming. I was a little nervous when I first went as I was going alone but they instantly put me at ease, chatting away as if they were old friends. There is a good range of services available including nails, spray tan, waxing, and make overs. I had eyelash extensions there on my first visit and was mighty impressed with how quickly they were done and how fantastic they looked. Nobody realised I was wearing false lashes, instead they just thought I looked really well and asked if I had done something different without being able to put their finger on it. They lasted for about 2.5 weeks which I was quite happy with. I have also been there for waxing and again the girls are really professional, really friendly and all the materials they use is designed to make your experience as comfortable as possible. The prices are kinda high, expect to pay around £35-£50 for any treatment you may be going in for (definately a treat more than an everyday luxury). But I think every penny is worth it!

I found Mama Hulu salon on treatwell and picked it specifically because they had an option of Secret Cinema Hair & Makeup. One day before the appointment when I wouldn't be able to find anybody else "mama" called me and asked what was the Secret Cinema theme this year because she didn't know (she received a letter from the Secret cinema but didn't open it). I told her that the theme is Stranger things and sent her pictures of makeup from 80s. Later that evening she texted me back that she does only Pin-up 50-60es makeup style. But promised to come up with something. Next day on the way to the salon I got lost and texted her asking for directions (it is tricky to find if you are not familiar with the area). No answer. When I eventually found the salon 10 minutes later the door was locked. I called via whatsapp and phone. I spent 20 minutes texting and calling. I saw that she was reading my texts in whatsapp and just ignored them. After half an hour since my appointment time she replied that I didn't show up in time and she wasn't on text. She re-scheduled her later clients and she can't wait for people who are late. Meanwhile the door was locked and there was nobody there. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. Highly unprofessional.

I went to Hula Nails two weeks ago today for a BioSculpture treatment on my nails - I've had this before with no problems. The lady doing my nails was so so lovely. In fact all the girls there were so sweet and the salon itself is a great experience with Raspberry tea on arrival and the whole vintage theme makes it really fun. I have given the low rating though because unfortunately I am really really disappointed with the nails themselves. The website says biosculpture lasts 2-3 weeks. In the salon I was told maximum two weeks before you should come back to have them removed or replaced. I had the treatment done on Wednesday and by Sunday one had peeled completely off. They all started peeling very quickly and within a week two were gone. Today is two weeks and 4 nails have fallen off. My nails obviously look ridiculous and I'm worried about whether this will have damaged the nails as they haven't been removed properly which they highly advised you not to do. It's such a shame because it started so well & I can't speak highly enough of the staff but ultimately the treatment only lasted 3 days for £36.

I was so terrible at going for waxing before coming here. I couldn’t bare going for a Hollywood but now I can wiz through it and it’s not traumatising. I also had a terrible experience at another salon for underarm waxing but after a couple of times here I have healed this trauma. Mamma hula introduced me to high definition eyebrows and it’s really changed my face so also super grateful for this. She really cares for her clients and treats them like friends. A very special human being. I travel over 1 hour and I refuse to go anywhere else now. Muma Hula is is one of the most amazing people you will meet. I have been going for 1-2 years and she has really been there for me to listen to some of the issues I have been going through and if I have gone feeling down her energy really helps to pick me up, even when I go for a Hollywood- how many people do you know who can do that. I’m so grateful for her and I tell her every time. Thanks Muma hula for being your and being amazing at your work, all the love and Gratitude

I'm a regular and have never been disappointed. George and the girls are all lovely and always ask after you. The ambiance is great and quirky - no turpentine-y smells, face masks or creepy silence. Just genuinely a warm and welcoming place. You have to pay a deposit because they book up way in advance - it's not a scam - it's how I guarantee I can get in when I want to. My nails last weeks on end...the gels peeled once and they sorted it as soon as I rang and popped in Most of the complaints seem to be about having not clarified what services are actually available or understanding the concept of a deposit, which they tell you is non-refundable. Of course it is pricey, but that's because gels are pricey. Other options in white cross street charge the same or more but do not offer a drink on arrival, fun staff who actually talk with you and spa sense of mini community inside It's a great spot

I walk up to this beautiful retro paradise feeling under-dressed every time, but instantly feel at home once I make it inside. This ladies only salon is something out of a Elvis dream girl tiki film with it's beautiful vintage decor and beautiful, friendly staff to match. They do everything from the usual manis and pedis, to something a little more special like a 'pin up spray tan' for pale girls which works to compliment your natural coloring rather than turn you orange. Plus, they do 'chocolate' waxes here - don't be fooled (like me, claim to fame in the salon) it's not edible, at least the wax isn't....but your coochie will certainly seem that way afterwards. It's competitively priced for the higher end salons around London, so while it's not the cheapest it's certainly worth visiting with your lady pals for a treat and a bit of a pamper.

This is without doubt the most professional and above all fabulous salon I've ever been lucky enough to discover. From the moment you call, to arriving at the salon and throughout any of the wonderful treatments they offer - you are made to feel like a 1950s movie siren. The Whitecross St salon is a fantastically decorated sanctuary of beauty and old-school glamour, with highly trained, exquisitely mannered and beautifully attired Hula Girls who excel in everything they do. Nothing is ever too much trouble, you are guided and inspired through your treatment choices in a way that makes you feel you are in fabulously manicured but very safe hands and above all they leave you feeling as gorgeous on the inside as they make you look on the outside. I love it so much I even pop in to say hello even if I don't have a treatment booked!

A fabulous haven in the city. I can't write highly enough about this place and the wonderful staff that work there. I have been many times for various things and would not go anywhere else (despite living down in Streatham). As soon as you step inside you are made to feel welcome (for Christmas last year I was provided with a delicious glass of apple cinnamon tea while I waited for my treatment). The manager George is a superstar. I have been once already for a full makeover with her, and she truly is a top class make up artist when it comes to the full vintage look. I am now waiting in eager anticipation for my next makeover coming up soon!

Walked away with one of the best gel manicures i've ever had. The Salon is super cool with gorgeous and friendly staff to boot. Not sure why some reviewers on here have had a bad time with "rude staff" and it's a shame to read bad reviews as I have ALWAYS been greeted with a smile, a compliment and a lovely glass of herbal tea. Any friends that I have sent to Hula have had nothing but great things to say about their experience. The only other place i've had such a good, creative manicure is LA, no doubt about it. Long live Hula. I love it, thank you girls for always brightening up my day and giving me jewels for nails.

Beware of this salon. Booking required via Treatwell and then you will see from reviews on Treatwell that noone will be at the salon at the appointment time and the mobile will remain unanswered. I did get a message from the owner after booking and pre paying for a manicure. I was already at the salon at the time. Ever since receive sporadic messages friendly but never offering a time and date for the already paid for treatment. I have been in contact with others who had treatment but were unhappy with the results. One positive is that I did my own nails to make up the lost money. Its not hard.

I went to Hula Nails last weekend for the first time, and for my first gel manicure. I absolutely loved everything about it. The girls (who look fabulous, source of inspiration if you are into the pin-up look!) were so friendly, really taking time so that it felt like a real treat - no rushing, complimentary tea, lots of chit chat, making sure I got exactly what I wanted. I walked away with the best manicure I've ever had (can't stop looking at my nails, must be tedious for others) and just feeling like I'd had some really nice 'me' time. Highly recommended.

I had an appointment and tried to get my friend an appointment around the same time. however, despite the owner telling me to call her back after 4pm, she never picked up her phone since. I staggered the calls(made at least 4 over two days) but should I chase her up to give her business? Extremely disappointed so I cancelled my appointment via the app. She seemed very friendly (as we did initially converse on the phone). she could have easily got alot of business out of me and my friends but what can you do if she doesn't pick up the phone??

  • P Brad

Fab ! Cute staff cute salon just cute cute cute ! The girls were spotlessly presented as was the treatment area I was in (pedicure and wax room) . I was offered an ice tea and shown to my seat the moment I walked in (no awkward hovering in the doorway). All in all this is my review after two visits ... I have now booked in for all pre wedding prep for early September ! Highly recommend ladies ... Book in advance if you want to spend some time with these stunning professional beauty sirens !!

  • Tove Berleen

I came here for waxing and was very happy with my experience. When booking I got all the information I needed regarding deposition and the importance of being on time, in a friendly manner. The greeting upon arrival was very friendly and considerate and the waxing was one of the quickest, most thorough and pain-less (as far as that goes) I have had. The atmosphere and the interior of the place is lovely, and I have already booked my next appointment and would strongly recommend it!

  • Samantha Kerr

We had reserved Hula Nails for a hen-do. They cancelled the reservation 5 days in advance. What irks me the most is that they gave us conflicting reasons as to why they cancelled: ranging from a therapist no longer being available, to another party having made (a subsequent) reservation to us not paying a deposit on time. My lasting impression is that they lacked integrity in handling this situation, were unreliable, and made no effort to satisfy (would-be) customers.

  • Cassandra Warn

Booked on treatwell for a 6pm appointment, showed up on time and the container was unlocked but no one in, silly me waited 45 minutes cause I thought something was wrong. I received an SMS the next day saying they didn't have me booked in but I had a voice mail that morning confirming the booking. Asked for an explanation and got no response. Don't bother, shocking service and honestly shocking behavior from a business owner. Tiki trash.

Beautiful beauticians, brilliant Brazilians! I've been going to Hula for my bikini wax for two years, from the first one I found staff friendly and professional. The wax itself was practically pain free, thanks to the special wax - I have had horrible experiences before and this was dramatically different. Would never go anywhere else again. I've also had a manicure, which I was really happy with.

  • Jemma Gee

I have been using Hula for over 10 years now and still the best place for my brows, eyelash perm and tint. Just fab, I have tried other places when Mama Hula too busy and although good have never quite met the standard of Hula. I get lots of compliments on my lashes post visit! Just brightens my face. Would thoroughly recommend. Mama Hula tells great stories too :)

  • The Melange

I had my first spray tan here, well, where do i start! On entry you are greeted by the most glam woman, then you are mesmerised by her spectacular space ✨ its stunning . My spray tan experience was explained from start to finish (my tan came out perfect by the way). Highly recommend, Mama Hula, she is simply amazing ✨✨✨ …

  • Lorena Valdearenas

Loved this place! Went yesterday for the first time and got such a wonderful treatment! Georgie was so lovely and welcoming and my brows now look amazing! Thank you so much! Really easy to book, they also have a waiting list and the add you to it if they are full and text you when there is an appointment available.

  • Mair Williams

Could not recommend this place enough. It's a little more than some of the cheap nail options but they use quality products and no drilling so your nails will thank you. The decor is great and the staff and friendly and helpful. Believe the hype and book yourself a treat (book early as this place gets booked up).

  • Jo Szwedzinski

I love Hula Nails! The staff are gorgeous and lovely. The nail art is creative with such original designs. My 'love' 'hate' manicure looked so good. The shop has a great atmosphere and decor. You simply cant get more amazingly rock 'n' roll than Hula. Thanks girls, I will be back very soon!

  • Kirstie Tong

It was lovely to be here just before my wedding. My nails were beautiful and the girl doing them bee was lovely in every way. I cannot wait to come back again this time to have eyelashes and nails. Highly reccomend to everyone I love how quirky this place is and so glad I found it.

  • Caitlin Ratcliffe Griffin

Brazillian wax- Beautiful parlour with amazing decor. Was decorated for Xmas and I was offered a mulled wine in arrival which was such a lovely surprise! Really professional, good quality wax and the least painful wax I've ever had. Good chat as well. 100% my new regular place.

  • Bear Brooksbank

I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. I have been a regular client at Hula Nails for over a year now and its always such a treat. George and the girls are so lovely and always make you feel welcome and totally pampered. Get down there ASAP if you haven't already been.

  • Natasha Patterson

I had a brilliant experience with the most lovely lady. That made me feel absolutely comfortable. Comparing to all my other experiences it was pain free and professional done. I have booked in advance. I definitely will recommend to my friends and family. 10 out of 10

  • Asher Einhorn

I've not in recent memory been spoken to so rudely by shop staff before, and it wasn't just me, everybody in there was outraged by how they were being treated. There is such a thing as having a bad day but when everybody employed is so vile there is no excuse. Avoid.

  • Wrappedbysarah

I have tried many different wax salons but Hula by far is my favourite! The space is beautiful, I always feel 100% comfortable, they have the BEST smelling oils after, I honestly have no bad words to say and quite frankly look forward to my regular sessions!

  • Lucy Barrack

Thanks Mama Hula! I went to Hula beauty for a spray tan and it was so fantastic. Loads of care spent on the application and I was even offered a cocktail before we started! Looked wonderful and natural and will definitely be going back!! :)

  • Katie Wheatley

Love this place - best manicure I have ever had, and the only place in London I can find that does a half moon. It's pricey, but to be honest, I like it so much, that the cost doesn't stop me from going back!

  • Ellie Amissah

I have not had a treatment there but came after they had closed to pick up a leaflet and even though they had shut a girl gave me the leaflet with a smile on her face. The atmosphere of the salon is great!!!

  • Maria Rau

The best waxing and fun experience you will ever have in Hackney. Mama Hula is just the best. Go for the wax, for the chats, for the interiors. There’s nothing quite like it, Chloe x

  • Lydia Scott

Mama Hula did my eyelash extensions for my sisters wedding. To my delight I upstaged the bride! They lasted well into my holiday that followed. Fabulous experience xxx

  • pink kella

The owner blows her own trumpet. She really has no experience that she claims ...her individual lash extensions were so bad. Never go there again. False confidence!!

  • El Passman

Lovely salon, covered in leopard print, which I love! Had LVL for the first time and was made to feel so comfortable and given all aftercare advice very clearly!

  • Sophie Edwards

Mama Hula is a genius - it was my first time, and she made it feel comfortable and almost painless. The coolest salon too. Can't recommend highly enough

Salon was empty when I arrived for my appointment. Owner said she had sent her staff to do a hen do then ignored all my calls.

  • Melissa Odell

Dissointing that can't get anyone to answer the phone to make an appointment even after ringing several times

  • Melissa fink

They don't answer their phone. Spent a week trying to make an appointment. They need a better system.

The salon might look cute from the outside but staff are unbelievably rude... don't bother.
