HPD doesn't enjoy a stellar reputation among the city's residents. I personally know of no one that holds this police department in high regard, which stands in stark contrast to Houston Fire, which the citizenry love and respect. HFD has a dedicated group of men & women second to none. This is a new low, even for HPD. At the Megabus bus station at Pierce & Travis, it would appear Houston Police Parking Enforcement takes down license plates when dropping passengers off and then sends a $70 ticket in the mail. In October my wife dropped off our daughter and 3 weeks later a ticket arrived in the mail. When she called, she was told there was a note that she had been warned multiple times and refused to move, which was nonsense, a straight-up lie, a complete fabrication. She would never argue with law enforcement. Ever. It's not in her character. Who argues with a cop or meter maid REFUSING to move, daring to be written a ticket or towed? Who does that? NO ONE DOES THAT. What they do, is they beg to be given an opportunity TO MOVE to avoid getting a ticket. It's not even an effective lie. It's an exceedingly weak, stupid one. This is outrageous, but not surprising. Like most Houstonians, my opinion of HPD is not a good one, but, as an organization, it's a reputation they most certainly have built and earned. Mistreating the very people that provide their paychecks by lying about a citizens' character is despicable. But using a bus terminal parking lot as a city revenue stream, as people drop off passengers is, as I said, a new low. Is there no level to the depths this city will go to extract money from it's citizens? We've established they have no decency - have they also no shame?

Not at Headquarters, but came in on a Greyhound bus. I am a 68 year old great grandmother. Visited grandsons at Ft. Bliss. Decided for the first time ever to go home on a Greyhound. Love people & new challenges. The diversity of people you see on the bus is amazing. Anyway, had layover at the bus station on Main in Houston. Decided to go to McDonald's. A nice appearing African American Motorcycle Officer was in McDonald's. Since I have never been here, I tried to strike up a conversation with the officer to get some info on Houston. Oh by-the-way, I am white (as if that should matter) (it doesn't to me). Well not only did he not want to talk to me, but as I was talking to him, another man steps up and starts talking to him about his helmet & motorcycle. He completely ignored me, talked with the young man, then got up & walked off. I found this very disrespectful and very bias. Stranger (an older woman) from out of town could not get a few kind words or info from an officer! Maybe it's because I choose to ride a bus, or white, or old, or just being a woman, he had a problem with something. I walked back to the bus station where people are nicer, apparently because they don't live here.

I just want to leave a general review to all police departments and hopefully nothing bad comes out of this because at the moment i feel very sincere writing this .... Thank you because my daughter being bipolar the police force have treated her with kindness and understand her situation. My daughter's illness has put her in situations where it can misinterpret her being a bad person but believe me she isn't, she is only ill and sometimes doesn't know what she is doing. However HPD and say this in general because i don't know sometimes where she is at and i know she gets stopped by police and until now has been treated with respect ... so thank you all for ALL you do. But more Precinct 4, they have come to our home for the same situation and they have treated me and my family with respect but i do need to say this all, you, me want respect? We all need to give respect as well to be treated fairly, answer questions and don't get offended if they seem to be defensive, they are inside a home that they don't know nothing about. Hope not to get no one offended with this, just think it helps to keep peace.

I am very disturbed by my recent interaction with HPD. I was driving down I10 on Saturday when a reckless driver side swiped me by weaving in and out of traffic, he hit my car and almost took off my side mirror and after the incident continued to weave in and out to avoid me getting his licence plate number. Needless to say, as a member of the community I immediately called the non emergency hotline to report this driver and his licence plate as he should have been stopped. I was told I needed to pull over and wait for an officer to meet me all the while letting the reckless driver potentially injure others. Miles ahead there was another officer that could have been alerted had the operator cared more about stopping criminal mischief than having me pull over to wait for an officer. It is disappointing that we pay tax dollars to support such an ineffective system. As citizens, we should be able to report crime and have a reasonable response or reaction. I am disappointed and definitely don't feel safe with systems like this in place.

I've always supported the police departments and I've always obey the law..... Is just really funny how you Can get a ticket or go to jail for lying to a cop... But the police can lie and give you a ticket saying your not wearing your seat belt when in reality you're wearing your seatbelt.... Just because it is under your arm does not constitute as not wearing it is just wrongfully being worn..... But the tickets clearly do not say that.... So cops are allowed to lie.... And I'm not understanding it we are to obey the law, THEN HOW at the wave of a cop's hand they can make you, Break the law by driving backwards on a feeder just take give you a ticket that's lying about you..... And if it's on the - Cam like it States on the ticket then it's clearly been recorded that the cop broke the law as well... BUT LET'S NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT..... I'M DONE GIVING MY TIME AND MONEY TO THE PEOPLE THAT LIE.... I will no longer support people that have to steal from the public....

The people at the front desk that handle the forms for the records division CLEARLY hate their job. They answer every question with attitude like if we go to the station every day and should know what we're doing. Either quit your job or act with some human decency. Sat there for a good 10 minutes while the lady was on her phone instead of letting us know they'll help us in a little. They didn't even acknowledge us and when we asked a question she just gave my brother the nastiest attitude like if we did something wrong. Ya'll need to treat people the way you would want to be treated. Also why is there a so many doors? We tried to go out one way and just yelled out that's not the exit and laughed out loud. Maybe get up from your chair and put a sign up. We were not the only ones, literally saw someone else trying to come in.

I deal with police departments all over Texas all of the time and unfortunately I have to give my hometown police department very low grades, I do understand that most of their problem is related to understaffing. They are having problems hiring officers and other personnel. Their Records Departments stink, very bad customer service and they dole out incomplete and erroneous information all of the time. One of their staff members is excellent and I get the feeling every one calls and ask for her, the others REALLY need training. Their online presence is pretty good even though they have an awful website. They need a overhaul of their administrative and support departments and the need many more police officers. LAJOYA

Girls at front desk were very nice as was gentlemen at records desk. However, officer at metal detector was disrespectful. Had meter running, so I was in a hurry. Yet he felt I was moving too slow & voiced his anger. This guy gives all the good cops bad rep. I know I wasn't in my suit, but I deserve respect as does anyone else there. Was some white guy with military haircut. So much for strengthening relations with Latino community or any for that matter. Ironic my son is going into law enforcement, hopefully he'll be one of the good ones.

I was pulled over by an Officer from Houston PD in April 2018. I’d made an illegal manoeuvre switching lanes from a left turn only lane. When the officer found out Id just arrived from New Zealand on holiday he pointed me in the direction of his favourite Texas bbq joint and let me off a ticket with just a warning because I had switched lanes cautiously, there was nobody in the lane and I wasn’t risking anyone’s safety. Appreciate the work you guys do and the way this guy handled a nervous tourist!

I can not stand Houston police. Whether it be city, county, state; etc. They are supposed to stop escalation. But they get just as worked up and anxious. They do not even know how to do their jobs. Ask them about their backgrounds. Theyre not fit to be in their uniforms. Civilians know more... Their a joke. Ask for a different cop besides e. Collins, ej manek, j dominguez bc they are all buddies and trigger friendly. I thought all those depictions in movies was exaggertaed towards cops. It's not.

  • Bridget Clayton

I've filed two claims recently in which I called and talked to the nonemergency line. One was regarding my car being vandalized/me being threatened and another was when my car was wrongfully towed and I couldn't get answers from who towed it. Neither time did I have any contact after the call, even though teams were supposedly sent out (the second was supposed to meet me directly), and they had my contact information to call me. I definitely don't feel safe, and this system is clearly a failure.

  • Onagar Elder

Jenkins sarcasm, false accusations, name calling while in a officer uniform claiming he has another job lined up he doesn't care is a major issue at the bank. Jenkins isn't upholding the 1st Amendment rights, poorly representative of the Houston Police. Name calling, falsely claiming racial bias, falsely claiming by simply on a public sidewalk, the innocent are trying to upset others by simply standing in public, not bothering anyone, a major issue in the Houston Police Department.

  • My Fortress Construction

Just had $1300 stolen from me on Tue Oct. 9th. 2018. Sargeant T. Brekke treated me like I was the criminal. She was more interested in telling me I had no proof than to try and figure out from security cameras if they could get any proof. The guy even gave me his ID and I took a pic of it before he ran off with the money. Guy has a rap sheet for murder/theft/assault. It's crazy that the justice system protectsguys like him, murderers and criminals and not you and me.

Since it's too difficult for me to really purchase an application I have some information regarding an accident at the corner of Carby and airline I happen to be walking by and noticed two vehicles and crashed and I needed to send a detailed email to a police officer and I don't have the means to purchase an application so I was wondering if we could exchange emails thank you for your time sorry I had to do it like this but I just can't purchase an application

Mixed review. The good thing is that when I have called for an emergency (such as a car accident) I have received prompt and friendly service....like literally no lie. But on the other hand, for non-emergency calls (such as a neighborhood disturbance, etc.)....ehhhhh, meh. Let's just say it's going on 4 hrs and there has yet to be a response. Like wow! Guess they are understaffed and underpaid like the rest of us, IDK...

  • Misty Edgley

At least they answered the phone…Waiting for a welfare check for going on 7 hours at the site. I’ve called every 1.5 to 2 hours just to hear “We’ll send somebody”…eventually. Welfare checks mean someone might need help, something abnormal is going on, but if no one shows up, it just might be too late. 7 hours too late. I guess I thought we were somewhat protected in big old Houston, what a sham..oops, 8 hours now.

Waiting for a crash report since 2/14/21, have called after 10 business days to follow up and still no response. Was on hold for 61 mins and mysteriously disconnected called again and I am currently on hold for 37 mins. Out of all the police stations in Texas, Houston is the only one who's officers do not turn in the reports and the few that do always make mistakes. They have No Respect for accident victims!

  • The unlawful system

SHAME!!!! As if every cop isn't corrupt and lawless enough as it is in this country, now the police union president Joe Gambali is callin for his cops to harass and keep tabs on everyone who says anything critical about cops. MERICA! And when I asked all of the cops if they were going to follow his orders all of them gave me the same answer as if they were reading from a script. And none of them said no.

  • Caroline S

Was trying to obtain a police report or clarify some information.. just needed some help and someone to answer a few questions, every time i tried calling was either "please hold to speak to a clerk" and every time it sounded like someone would pick they'd purposely will hang up, like so busy doing what? APPERANTLY NOTHING, they shouldn't be there if they can't even do their job correctly.

  • Carlo Gioia

How the police handled Astroworld this weekend is obscene, officers let an unconscious woman fall feet from a stretcher headfirst into a metal grate. We need some changes, gunshots are heard all night around a lot of apartments and you never hear one siren, anytime I speak to a non emergency personnel I’m treated with hostility. MAKE SOME CHANGES, WE NEED BETTER COPS AND BETTER PRESENCE.

  • Araseli Reynoso

I was somewhat stressed and shocked I had to physically go down to the police station to report my lost drivers license. I got there and was immediately taken care off from the second i went inside. I was the only one there so it was quick :) very friendly cop helped me throughout the whole process and was patient. Didn’t catch his name but overall great experience. :)

  • William Peterson

Filed an incident report in December of 21 no email or phone call for follow up on anything. Plus there was no phone number on the sheet given to me when I called they said there was nothing they could do. Plus half the cops in this city are way to fat to be a cop how are you gonna protect and serve when you can't even do a pull-up just sad.

  • Miya Carter

The lack of empathy from a “protection entity” just shows the corrupt and unjust system we live in. There is too much information spreading and collecting. An arrest can be made or at least in-depth questioning can commence amongst the suggested suspect. We will keep fighting for Taylour!!! We want to JUSTICEFORTAYLOUR

  • Apo Phenia

Houston Police just made a mini-documentary called "Reefer Madness pt.2" and have waged all out war on CBD. Be careful, they're only here to protect and serve Big Pharma. I can't believe they said all this stuff with a straight face. Get these people kicked out of their positions Houston, they have their wallets in mind only.

  • Briggitte Diaz

My car was broken into and my guns were stolen. I called 911 and they said officers were on the way. 2 hours later no one showed up. I called them again and they said they don’t have an ETA for responding officers. How do you guys take over 2 hours to come out to a scene but can’t even make it? WORST police department ever.

  • Perry Bonney

I needed to go to HPD headquarters to pick up an accident report for my insurance company. I was quickly processed through security and directed to the reports department on the 1st floor. In no time, I had it in hand and was on my way back out the door. As efficient as a for-profit corporation. Thanks HPD!

  • B T

The cop(s) that works with Blur Nightclub needs to be fired. They work hand and hand with the bouncers there and profile random people to arrest or place in drunk tanks. They will steal phones from whomever they are taking in and pawn their items off. Sketchy people deserved to be called out and exposed

  • Byran Johnson

When a Houston police officer pulled two men over in a traffic stop on July 13, both men were taken into custody. Later, when a tow truck arrived, the driver’s pet Chihuahua was placed on the side of the road and left there. I thought you need to at least have a brain to work in the policy force?

  • Brittany Lawlis

Went to the office today to get a police report and a officer talked very disgusting to me. Told me he was not trying to get my drivers license number he was trying to get my phone number and was also not trying to check me in but check me out. Had me shaking so bad when I got to work.

  • Texas Sasquatch

The officer that arrested me was very nice. He was very gentle and made the handcuffs comfortable. The cruiser had ample space and was very clean. The booking process was smooth and not stressful. I would recommend being arrested by this department to anyone. 10/10.

  • Rodrigo Cabral-Pereira

Staff was friendly, police record was completely wrong. They got the year of my car, the location of the accident and the time wrong. My insurance company didn't care, but if it was something more serious I would hate to see how their negligence would affect lives.

  • Crystal

Called to check on an incident report to see if it’s been processed, could not hear what the “officer” was saying, mumbling his words asked for him to repeat what he was saying and still could not understand and then he just hung up on me. What was that oath?

  • Lewis Olmstead

This is by far the worst police department I have ever had to deal with. Waited 4 hours for an officer to show up to do an accident report, and now waiting for an officer for an auto burglary report, for over 6 hours. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  • David McMann

Hpd is nothing but some lazy non helpful non attentive personnel this police department I can say is the worst in the nation I called to get a unit out to me for a car vandalisim gues. What it's been 5 hours and they haven't arrived this is ridiculous

  • Alexia Jimenez

There was an incident of domestic violence in my apartment complex and the woman was in danger. I quickly called the police, gave them specific location of the incident.. and they NEVER came. I truly am in shock this morning. I am speechless.

  • Roberto Villalon

Today I was involved in a minor accident. Officer RM Araiza showed up was respectful and professional the entire time. He was short and to the point and was quick to end the situation. Good to know Houston PD has officers like him on duty!

  • Jamshid Boroujerdi

I went to Houston Police department on Travis street to get my accident report. The building was clean, the staff were super friendly and the police officers were nice and helpful. I felt so safe and so proud of Houston police force.

For Some Unknown reason too the Public,Houston’s Downtown Police dept switchboard keeping the lines off the hook, making it impossible to reach them tried Calling 1hr straight every 5 seconds…. And i’m dealing with urgent matter….

  • Games & Politics

Completely incompetent. I contacted these idiots to report a robbery and they refused to look into the matter. I told them where the suspect lived ( I recognized him) but they didn't look into the matter as far as I know.

  • Sanders Tactical Performance

I appreciate the officers and staff at headquarters for making my visit quick and professional. I went to get a copy of an incident report, everyone greeted me and made sure I was taken care of.

  • Jessica Galindo

Staff was friendly, but if you're expecting them to help you with a hit and run, and make the other people that hit you responsible, they will not do anything but waste your time

  • Kathlene Wallace

Thank you to Officer Diaz. He found my wallet that I dropped at a service staton. He returned it to my hotel and called me. I could not believe my luck that a Policeman found it.

  • Jason Michael Rosado

I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I was forced to go downtown to get an accident report. Fast friendly efficient awesome people plus system. Great work Team!!!!

  • Timothy Offord

When you contacted this department about kids, school nobody calls or contact you back until it’s to late, where do parents turn to??? Even the chief won’t return calls

  • Vanessa Garcia

Idk what tax dollars pay for if each time you call for help they dont for a tnjnnf and refuse to write reports. So quick to write people tickets though. Sad.

  • Cascadia Transport

Our semi truck was involved in a hit and run. I called the non emergency line and waited 8 hours but an officer never arrived to the scene.

I left a bad review and it wasnt fair. These guys need more funding and all of our support. Thats fair. Praying for you all.

they make a mockery of the idea of "protect and serve" . anyone associated with this entity should be ashamed.
