Really beautiful details throughout but the way of living in these rooms just wasn’t thought through. This is gonna be long so I’ll recap my overall thoughts here: Based on the price charged I just don’t think this one is worth it. They’re charging luxury prices and just stopping short of luxury. Everything is gorgeous but it just isn’t completely functional or accurate based on description and price. We reserved a Grand King instead of a standard King and there wasn’t a seating area in our room as promised. I was looking forward to a seating area because my partner and I were going to be working remotely for a full week, and now there’s just a single chair in this room. When I called the front desk they said that we were in a grand king but that they understood our disappointment, they offered to have us transfer to a different available room that had the seating area. They showed us the room and this one only had a single window looking to the interior and was incredibly dark so we didn’t take it. I think the photos on their site are deceiving, they just showed their absolute best rooms. I don’t understand the price difference of our room compared to a regular king, the photos of our layout and desk are the same as in the regular king, and I was very disappointed in that. Our room was smaller than the photos made it seem and compared to a hotel I stayed in last week that was 300 sq ft. It feels much much smaller, I think the layout just wasn’t thought out because there are odd amounts of dead space that just aren’t usable. Another thing I didn’t enjoy was that the sink for the bathroom was outside of the bathroom so no door. No mirror in the bathroom. You can’t get ready without waking your partner. A complaint I’ve seen on Google here was that the street noise was a little much. I agree, but I liked how the hotel provided a white noise machine and personally knowing Portland I expected some street noise in this area. However, they only provided one set of ear plugs. It’s just these little details that were missed. In other areas it was no soap or body wash in the shower, not enough hooks for towels, no storage for toiletries, not enough racks for hanging clothes, no place to hang a hand towel next to the sink. In the description it said this would be a perfect space for a couple but that is just not the case, there isn’t enough space for 2 people to work and live for 6 days. Some additional details that weren’t provided on the site if you’re interested: the parking available isn’t covered or secure, it’s an adjacent lot right out back that is owned by another company but the hotel has paired with them for pricing and ease of purchase. I’m originally from Portland, I was expecting something more secure for sure. Just don’t leave anything in your vehicle and it should be fine. They said their security guard takes a lap through there every night so at least there’s a presence there. There’s also a well-lit gas station and a new build apartment out back and the whole area looks clean and well lit so I was happy to see that. The on site deli/restaurant is open in the morning through 4 pm and you can get it delivered to your room. Breakfast and sandwiches, super yummy food and coffee. Although they don’t serve dinner you can buy various bottles or wines through a self serve cart at the front desk after 4. There’s enough good food in Portland that I think this is a great solution before their bar opens which looks like it will be gorgeous. Although the in room space was disappointing and not as described, there was excellent space to work downstairs both in the lobby, in the attached “study hall” where I took some meetings, and then in the deli. There will be a super cute bar that isn’t yet open. It looks adorable and it would have been nice to have a dinner/drinks solution in the building for sure so that’s an exciting upcoming thing. Although I wouldn’t stay at the grand stark again, I will for sure come by to see the new bar and come by for coffee and breakfast in the beautiful space.

Stayed here as recommended by the bride and groom (family). It was close to the wedding venue, but warning the neighborhood is gritty. The smell of urine everywhere was unbearable. This is also coming from someone who lived in Oakland for years so a little grit typically doesn't bother me, but this was on another level. This was not even the worst of the stay though. The hotel staff is TERRIBLE. It literally eliminated anything good about the stay. Someone should teach them how to smile. I have never recieved such poor customer service at any hotel. They refrained from eye contact at all cost and expressed the utmost annoyance at any ask. Well excuse me you're getting paid to work here and I'm paying to stay. They failed to clean my room one day because of a 'staffing emergency' and left a $20 mini bar credit for things that were collecting dust. I told them I was uninterested in anything and asked if they could provide an alternative solution. They said no to my ask for food at the restaurants because they are all third party and the mini bar credit is all they could do. Seriously?? One of the girls said if I could get creative they would try to accommodate. Why do I need to think of something when they messed up? I asked for a room credit or ride to the airport upon checkout and they declined. I've never ever heard of any hotel not compensating ANYTHING if they made a mistake. Make it right people. It's bottom line courtesy and customer service 101. When I asked for extra linens, towels, lotion, and toothpaste the staff member seemed like I was inconviencing her by asking for ‘so much’. She also said she didn't know if they had toothpaste even though someone gave me a tube the other evening (none was left for me). Additionally, they failed to clean my room another day so when I came back I needed to reach out to them again. My shower twisted and broke the first evening and I couldn't turn it back on. I reached out to the front desk and she sounded extremely annoyed (no surprise). Apparently there was no handyman on site so they couldn't do anything about it and I had to switch rooms. What an inconvenience the day before the wedding!! The last morning I asked if they had anymore coffee and they said no because they take the coffee at 10, but other mornings it was there well after. They were rude, cold, and annoyed (again, no surprise at this point). At this point I will be working to get my money back. Avoid this hotel if you would like a pleasant experience in Portland. Unless they completely turnover their entire staff this place is absolute trash.

Didn’t feel super safe walking around.
Walkability
Not all super walkable to everything, but manageable to head over the bridge. Public transit it closeby. Uber/Lyft can get pretty expensive.
Food & drinks
A yummy ramen and udon place closeby. Downtown is a walk across the bridge where there are even more choices. It’s all a bit over a mile across the bridge.

The overall stay was a thorough disappointment. The pictures look pretty and made for a promising stay but I guess we shouldn’t have believed some stock footage of the nicest room. I booked our room expecting a desk (as in the pictures) but there was none available in there. It was simply a small space big enough for the bed and a small seating cushion. From the moment I checked in, reception staff was disagreeable and unhelpful. I was given no information about the hotel when given my keys beyond the fact that my room was on the 4th floor and it was clear that giving me a smile would’ve pained the receptionist hugely. So I had no idea that there would be coffee in the morning nor what the wifi password might be. Everything got worse from there. I asked if I could be given a room with a desk as booked because I needed to work from there. I was told nonchalantly that they would let me know if one became available but that in the meantime I was welcome to work in the lobby (where there are no plugs by any of the tables by the way). It was clear from the tone of this second receptionist that I was not getting a different room even if I waited. I then asked to modify the card I had booked with but that created a great amount of confusion and the receptionist asked for help from what seemed like her manager who ended up charging me twice and billing the wrong card in the end. Suffice to say I was already quite unimpressed at this point. The rest of the stay was uneventful until the day before check out when I left for lunch for 1h and came back to find that my bins had been emptied and my iPhone charger plugged into the wall was gone. I went down to reception to notify staff of the theft and was met again with great apathy and little interest in the situation. I was told that the cleaner had been contacted and I would be updated soon. I went back later in the afternoon to find another receptionist who had no updates and just said she didn’t know about the situation and she was sorry. On the morning of checkout I enquired again and had to reexplain what had happened as the third receptionist also did not seem to know and was not able to help. Luckily the manager of cleaning staff overheard and came over to speak to me, took the matter seriously and gave me the contact of the hotel manager. When I contacted the hotel manager she was prompt and helpful, the only staff member besides the cleaners’ manager who seemed to care about the clients. I was sent a new charger that unfortunately turned out to be a knock off Amazon brand of the Apple charger that was stolen from me. A full 3 weeks later, I am still waiting for a satisfactory resolution to this mess. Overall, the experience was made terrible by the poor service and apathetic reception staff that was not enclined to do anything to make the stay more enjoyable, quite the contrary. I will not come back and pretty pictures are not enough to make up for awful treatment.

Only booked this place for one night as I was staying in the area from out of town. First off, do not expect to find parking this place is in the middle of downtown - it is not handicap accessible and they will charge you to park your vehicle 50 bucks a night, it’s not super clear but is listed on the website. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) necessitates that certain “facilities” that are open to the public address the needs of all customers; that includes accessible parking. Those facilities include but are not limited to: restaurants, hotels, motels, theaters, doctors’ offices, pharmacies, retail stores, museums, libraries, parks, schools, apartment complexes and daycare centers. Trying to check in, the front desk staff was not only rude but unauthorized to do anything. I wanted to go stay elsewhere, where I had ADA friendly parking for me and my service animal, as I’m a US Marine Corps veteran, but the front desk couldn’t authorize that either and even threatened to refuse me service for pointing out it’s illegal not to have wheelchair/disability-accessible parking. Her argument being she didn’t “like the interaction.” Having a huge hold on my CC and no where else to go, their is no manager on duty 24/7 at this establishment (odd, I used to work in a hotel myself and that seems very shady as we always had a manager on duty or one we could call off hours for emergency’s/issues). I ended up not staying due to the level of discomfort from the staff at the front desk and the fact there was no handicap accessible parking (GOOD LUCK with the street parking in Portland - what a joke). I ended up going outside of Portland to sleep in my truck in the cold and it was a much better experience than staying in this place = at least it was quiet, safe and didn’t have a funny odor. I can’t speak for the rooms, I didn’t make it that far but can’t say it was worth checking out. I should have read the google reviews first as it seems others have had similar experiences, so I blame myself but still ridiculous. If you dig the overpay for moody staff in downtown Portland experience, this place is for you. Otherwise go to Beaverton or Tigard, literally anywhere else, including a “cruddy” motel would have better customer service (and be much cheaper).

I reserved the room about 8hrs prior to my arrival. The website said there was a restaurant style lounge it was closed for remodeling strike 1. Got to our room opened the door and dust bunnies ran all over the floor strike 2. There was food particals on the floor at the foot of the bed and under the table strike 3. There was small corn chip particals on the bench at the foot of the bed strike 4. The trash can was full of trash strike 5. There was hand and finger prints all over the glass to the shower strike 6. And finally there was something still floating in the toilet strike 7. I told the staff and someone came and looked at the room and made an excuse that thus is not his area to maintain, whose is it then ? Lying to customer blaming a coworker is a bad look. We were given a new room a supposed upgrade, the room was smaller and freezing it was about 34* outside, the room was like 50*. I turned the thermostat to 74* and left. Came back to room 5hrs later and the room was still freezing cold, my girlfriend was literally shivering strike 8. I ask the reception why the heater did not work in our room, well it turns out they control each individual room temp at the front desk. It was 9:30pm and our room was still at about 50* and we had guests coming. The receptionist turned the heat on, we left the door to the hallway open most the night because the hallways were warm and our room was freezing strike 9. We asked for a space heater, turns out the other guests were using them all. We got extra blankets to wear in the room strike 10. It never got above 60* in our room so we didn't even shower, was to cold strike 11. Foe all our shivering and troubles we were given 2 16 Oz bottles of cheap wine. Nothing Grand and the hotel, we will NEVER stay here again. The windows are the original wood style single pane windows with rope & weights so you hear every sound outside and feel the cold inside. $200 for the room $40 for parking. I've had better arrangements at motel 6.

Hotel Grand Stark hosted our wedding guests this past April. We were shocked that such a gorgeous space was so affordable and jumped at the chance to have our guests stay there. The decor is modern yet cozy and really created an upscale home-away-from-home feel. We had about 60 guests stay there, including us, and it was really special to have almost the entire hotel to ourselves. The deli and bar in the lobby add an additional layer of PNW flare. The planning could not have gone smoother and all of our guests were blown away by the quality of amenities and guest service. We had our wedding ceremony and reception at The Evergreen, so having our guests stay just around the corner was amazing. They were able to Uber/Lyft in from the airport in just 20 minutes, walk to our venue, and explore the Central Eastside with ease. We worked with Nic to coordinate our hotel block, emailing for about a year. He is incredibly kind, organized, and professional. Our rehearsal dinner plans fell through and he went above and beyond partnering with the chef to help us plan a dinner at the hotel with a limited budget. We were blown away with how amazing the dinner turned out and were so grateful that they were able to make it happen for us. There were so many personal touches to our stay - from an assortment of local beer and a thoughtful welcome note in our suite to Julian hand delivering a bottle of champagne from a missing friend for our bridal getting ready party to the chef popping in to see if we liked our meal at the rehearsal dinner to personalized drink vouchers for our guests, we really felt like all hands were on deck to make our guests and us feel special and taken care of. I would 100% recommend Hotel Grand Stark to anyone staying in town, but especially if you’re planning a wedding!

Do not stay here. Arrived in cold weather, under 20 degrees outside. My room was frigidly cold. You can't update the thermostat yourself, they control it. Well, I could see my breath in the room so I called down to see what the issue was. They said "it's cold outside so the rooms are colder than usual" me: "my teeth are chattering" she then says she'll "check the boards" and leaves me on hold for a bit. She said she "turned it up as high as it will go" and I said I still feel no heat. She said they're "out of heaters, and blankets" so there is nothing they can do. I say thanks and hang up. Proceed to toss and turn from the chill the whole night. When I woke up, the thermostat has a SNOWFLAKE and says it's ten degrees cooler than when I went to bed. I call back. Put on hold again. "Oh, sorry about that. The maintenance guy just flipped it back on again"… thermostat immediately jumps back to where it was when I went to bed, though I still feel zero heat. Why would they set the thermostat DOWN IN TEMPERATURE during the worst winter storm in 40 years, they're out of heaters, they're out of blankets, and the front desk person admitted people have been calling all night about the heat not working?! Something shady is going on here. If you can't afford to heat your hotel, don't have guests. Oh and by the way, the free coffee and croissants promised don't exist anymore. Their website doesn't have the check out time listed or menu for room services they claim to have... wouldn't be surprised if that was canceled too. Lastly, the water in your room is $13 !!! That is Vegas prices! Totally a scam, and a really good way to sum up this establishment. Don't be like me, and get taken for a ride out of of $140 to sleep miserably with paper thin walls, windows, and no access to a heater. Stay ANYWHERE else in Portland. This place is not worth a penny.

My boyfriend and I planned a trip to Oregon a few weekends ago and we decided to stay at The Grand Stark. From maps, it looked relatively close to everything. It was just a 5-10 min drive to bars and places we wanted to visit. They charge $45 for “valet” parking, where they park your car in their garage. If you don’t sign up for valet parking then you have to park almost a block away. Two days before our trip I called the hotel and asked if they could have a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room when we got there. We were celebrating and I thought it would be a cute surprise for my bf. I spoke to Julian, they were super helpful and said we would get the VIP package free of charge. I was super excited- when we showed up, we got into our room and there was no champagne bottle or any sort of VIP service waiting for us I called the front desk and they said Julian was not there that day and they were not aware of the plans but they would bring up a complimentary bottle. They did bring a small bottle up which I do appreciate. The room was beautiful and the hotel was decorated so cute. Unfortunately, you could hear all of the noise going on outside from the hotel room. It sounded like all of the windows were open all night. We even double checked to make sure they were closed because we could hear everything! Not sure if I would book here again but it wasn’t a bad experience.

Do your self a favor and book an air bnb or one of the other hotels in the area, I blindly booked seeing a general 4 star review but you are absolutely not getting what you pay for in staying here. The general style and modeling of the hotel is nice, but that’s about the only positive. I’m used to staying in cities and can sleep fine with street noise, but the level of noise here is something else. We listened to people screaming in agony at the homeless shelter across the street and motor cycles crossing non stop from midnight-630 am, it was so loud it almost didn’t even feel like there were windows in the room at all. Neither me or my partner got more than a couple hours of sleep, even with the provided white noise machine in the room on full ballast. The staff are very disorganized, it’s a long shot if you’ll even get connected to anyone on the phone. The self parking is not really self parking, it requires a staff member to open the garage for you a block away from the hotel where you have to navigate through peoples camps to get into the garage. Once you park you cannot re access your vehicle without a staff member and there is no guarantee how long that will take. I really wanted to enjoy our stay, and the way everything is presented online looks great. Just be aware that it’s a very different experience in person. I just want anyone who plans to book here to be warned in advance that there are much better options at this price point in this area of town and I would not recommend staying here unless it is the last resort or only option.

Very cool hotel, reminds me of hotels in Europe. There were no big problems during our stay, just a few things that were not great for us. First of all- the room was very small, barely enough room to walk around. No where to put clothes in a drawer, only maybe 5 hangars. The sink was clear on the other side of the room from the bathroom, not ideal, but whatever. While I was showering, the light turned off multiple times, leaving me in absolute darkness, very unsafe, the light was motion activated. Rooms are not well insulated, you can hear everything that's going on in the hallway and other rooms. The placement of the TV was horrible in our room, it was to the side of the bed instead of in front of it, so we had to be sideways on our bed to see it, it made no sense whatsoever. Very uncomfortable to relax and watch TV. The bar was never open when my husband wanted a drink, and then was reserved for a private party, so no guests could enjoy the bar. Just a few things we didn't like about it, but it was a great location and the staff was all very nice and accommodating. The restaurant in the hotel had very good food and delicious lattes as well. That was very convenient for our start to the day in the city.

This is the second time I've booked this hotel in connection with the annual PNSQC. Location questionable but I've always felt safe to walk around during the day or night. Parking on street(fee) or valet service(fee). I used the valet service. Way kool old hotel updated. The old wooden floors with a slite lean. Looks like original trim/mill work thru out the hotel and has that old time look and feel with modern updates. Bar/food on site. I stayed on the 4th (room 406) floor, end room facing street. Room clean, good size; queen bed. Bed real soft. Pillows soft. Good size flat screen tv. Good size, easy access to walk in shower. The fridge is small; filled with drinks to buy and a basket of snacks, coffee, etc to buy. I brought a ice cooler. The room needs another trash can and a could use a microwave. Ask for ice. A little noise from the street (expected being your in the city!) during the day otherwise quite hotel and area over night. Walking distance to food or entertainment. Friendly, professional, helpful staff. Front desk, maid & Valet service excellent. Worth the stay. The area is improving.

Very portland chic. I was lucky enough to notice this new hotel for my recent birthday staycation. When things start opening up again, it will be an excellent spot for a fun night out. The rooms are very clean and well laid out, bed is comfy and mini split is in the perfect spot to cool down. Parking lot situation is a little confusing, but luckily the front desk helped me out. The attached deli had a great little breakfast that was delivered to my room along with a latte. The addition of comfy Terri cloth bathrobes were a great bonus to the room. Since this place is so new, I'm including a few constructive criticisms/suggestions that I think would make the stay even better: Website page with checkin/out information has white background and super light green text. Very hard to read. Hours of operation for deli and bar weren't in room and not easy to find on website. Love the gratuity envelope for service staff in the room, but alot of ppl like me don't carry cash. Maybe a qr code to an 'add gratuity' page to add to the cost of the hotel room or a venmo link for service staff tips would be nice. Soap was really heavily scented. Some unscented stuff would be good for more sensitive folks like me. All in all, great hotel.

Our room was uncomfortably small (almost the entire space was dominated by the king size bed). Bathroom door faces the bed, rather than being slightly around a corner as in most hotels. Bathroom has black tile which to me always feels grimy, so wasn't a fan of that. Elevator carpet is in desperate need of replacing and wood floors in common areas need a deep clean. Soundproofing is next to non-existent. We were able to easily hear the music coming from the bar next door, which lasts until the bar closes at 230am. Obviously that is out of the hotel's control but you'll probably want a room on the far end of the building away from the bar. Staff was super nice. Location is pretty good, we were here for a wedding which ended up being a two minute walk away. Also in walking distance are a distillery, an antiques store, a tea house, a donut place, and multiple bars. Maybe 15-20 mins by car to PDX.

When I called the hotel prior to booking our reservation, I asked if they were pet friendly and they said yes; However I didn't learn that their pet weight limit was a max. of 30# until a few days after booking when I received a welcome email. We have a dog much larger than that, but we stayed anyway and were thankfully still accommodated. The hotel is lovely and the staff was great. We only stayed one night and didn't require a ton of service needs. My biggest complaint would be the sketchiness happening right across the street. I was scared to take our dog out in the middle of the night to use the bathroom but worse, it made my husband and I nervous to offload our stuff, dog and child. We opted for valet parking given the nervousness of street parking and shuffling our family. I'd likely stay again, however I'd do it without my family, due to safety concerns.

It's a nice hotel with lots of buts! It's denitely not a 4 star! Service is lackluster. Checkin was a bit stressful since I arrived late night and the person checking me in didn't know that my room was paid for with a corporate card and proceeded to ask for my personal account to charge it. I was very annoyed!! Especially being tired from a long 6 hour flight! It was a nice gesture of the hotel staff sending me a complimentary half sized bottle of wine to my room. The location of the hotel is a bit sketchy. Across the street is a homeless shelter. Surrounded by many homeless folks. It's very sad to experience. Housekeeping service is hit or miss. I was there 4 nights and despite me putting my sign to clean my room, my room was only cleaned 2times. The continental breakfast is okay. It's just croissants and coffee. Overall, the hotel has a nice vibe but needs a lot more refining.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Stark at the end of August 2022. The staff were friendly and the room was quite nice... especially after a week of us camping on a road trip throughout Oregon. The beds were really comfortable and we enjoyed ourselves. The highlight of our stay was taking out two bikes (with locks) that were included as part of our stay and we biked over to the Japanese Garden. This gave us a really nice chance to experience Portland the way we wanted to. On top of that, there are a lot of fun and interesting amenities in the area and all within walking distance. Transit is nearby too so it's not a chore to get to any major destinations including the airport. I will note that there were a lot of encampments (which we expected before visiting Portland). We never felt unsafe and we didn't experience any issues during our stay.

Hotel Grand Stark is a newer boutique hotel in a renovated building. The Eastside location is good, with many restaurants and bars nearby and quick access to Old Town, Pearl District, and SE locations. Unfortunately, while the decor is nice, the room did not meet expectations. Specifically, the cold water faucet was broken, there was limited hot water in the shower, the toilet paper and towel racks were falling down. For a one-night stay, these are issues I can deal with. The biggest problem was the street noise. The room we had was situated near the exterior corner of the third floor. During the renovation, it seems they decided not to replace the old, drafty windows, which let cold air and a large amount of noise in. For these reasons, I doubt we will stay again. And if we do, we will request an interior room.

Stayed here after a long road trip down in the states. Was looking for a clean and cozy place to relax. This place was perfect for what I needed. The main lounge is a great representation of what the rooms are. Modern, Clean, well staged, etc. Along with the first great impression, I was met with extremely friendly staff, who were all knowledgable in the surrounding area. The room, as mentioned, was what I was hoping for. Not only staged well, but the beds and pillows were like snoozing in a cloud. The only design flaw I saw was, where the bathroom/shower were compared to where the sink was. Somethings cant be helped though, whilst renowing an old building into a comfortable hotel. Would definitely stay here again! Also, a shout out to Andrea and Dezzie (spl?) for being so personable and making my stay so welcoming.

Great, very hipster-esque hotel and exactly what I expect style-wise when I come to Portland. I've stayed in many of this type and have to say the employees outshine many other hotels similar in style. Location is exactly what you would expect of this area of Portland and everything is done to keep your car safe. My only gripe - I am not usually a light sleeper and have spent many nights in less than quiet surroundings without much issue - rooms on the second floor are LOUD all night long. Not from the inside (people in the hallway, etc), but the outside (fights, police cars, garbage trucks, general loud noise not even commiserate with the size of city this is). Ear plugs are just not the answer, nor is the white noise machine near the bed. Style is wonderful and comfortable. Coffee in the room was also enjoyed.

I am still in shock. There were a number of things about my stay that made me certain I would not come back here again but it was the icing on the cake when I came to pick up the bags and items I checked with the hotel and my three days of breast milk I asked them to store in the fridge had been “accidentally thrown out” that confirmed customer service is officially dead according to this hotel chain. Made worse by the fact that I was offered a night of free parking (at a hotel where I never parked) to make up for the mistake. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here. On top of the many service issues the windows are paper thin so the rooms are cold and insanely noisy. I am not a sensitive sleeper and I woke up no less than 10 times Each night.

Every single staff member was friendly and very helpful. The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. Our dog even nestled into the provided dog bed, which is high praise from her! The neighborhood can be loud at night but we didn’t find it to be a huge problem. Pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise audible from other rooms or the hallway. we look forward to returning in the near future. Only issue during the stay was that it was and the heating system was…vintage, perhaps? Pack accordingly if it’s winter. Had a snafu regarding a refund —we had to cut our stay short due to illness, were assured a refund in person and via email. Long story short, it took weeks of requests for this to become reality. Book direct. :)

Second time staying at this hotel and I didn’t fully enjoy the stay. To start, they literally never answer the phone. I don’t know if that’s an issue with the number or what, but it’s incredibly frustrating. Another issue linked to that, is the parking situation. The parking used to be directly behind the building and was open, so you were able to move your car as you pleased. It was expensive but convenient. Now they’ve moved their parking to a locked garage a block away that required a security guard, who usually isn’t even there, to walk over and unlock it. Very frustrating when you just want to grab something from your car. The price point seems a little high for the area and the overall deal. I really wanted to love this hotel but there are just too many other inconveniences that ruined it for me.

Room odd. Lighting terrible and the 1980s wood Pizza Hut chair was sorry to sit in at the ”desk”. Two LED globe lights blind you from either side so drape hand towels over them. Sheets were not as advertised online hah. Signs on robe warning you not to steal. (!) Service no coffee in morning everyone stood around waiting. Finally desk clerk stood up and made some. Valet never bothered helping anyone by holding a door while they entered or left with luggage. Street parking good luck or $45 valet parking. $100 deposit on card which they informed me would drop off ”in a few days" if I didn't eat mini bar food. No bar service for happy hour due private event in room. Not a great stay. There are better places elsewhere in town

We loved our stay here! They have a really unique aesthetic, a great bar/restaurant, amazing staff, and clean rooms. The decor has classic elements but is nicely updated. There are some cool quirks which make it feel like you’re not at some corporate, stark hotel. What really stood out to us in addition to cleanliness was the absolutely wonderful service at the front desk from Byron. He was so welcoming and friendly! He explained everything would possibly need to know about our stay concisely but very clearly. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a pleasant check in experience at a hotel in my entire 37 years. The maintenance guy was also really nice, helpful, and informative. Thank you to Byron and the team at the Grand Stark for a lovely stay!

Wonderful experience for a work trip! I would absolutely be back. My only sticking points were that the shower head really needed to come out farther, the water never really got hot (but it's a historic building), and there were no in house breakfast options. I believe their dining facility was closed the entirety of our stay. The staff was wonderful and so very friendly. They made it such a joy to interact with them. The location was really sketch for a single female. There were homeless people everywhere I walked and it was a little bit disconcerting when I would do my morning breakfast hunt. If you're traveling alone, you may want to try another part of town!

Pros: cute, vintage interiors and designs throughout the hotel. Yummy deli/restaurant and the coffee was very good. Really good pastries. Nice staff. Loved the bath robes. Room was spacious which we appreciated. Cons: very very loud street noises heard at all hours of the day and night. We had a rough two nights of sleep (no sleep, actually). Very inconvenient to have the sink outside of the bathroom, made getting ready in the morning difficult while trying to let my husband sleep. The floors are all warped and heavily slanted due to the very old building. Mattress is uncomfortable and firm. They charge $50/hour for late checkout which we thought was ridiculous. $25/night for parking which is in the open, where lots of bums walk through and hangout.

Hotel and it's staff are very nice. The only issue I had was that I booked the room within 6 hours of arrival and my room wasn't very clean. It seemed like someone was given a haircut there just before I arrived. There was long hair everywhere including the shower. I asked the cleaning lady for a broom and she gave me a microfiber. There was just too much hair to clean up with a rag. It was a holiday weekend and I understand places are short staffed, but that wasn't great. Overall, the space itself is well equipped. A good value for a stay in Portland. Good deal on parking and close to the light rail.

Nice, upscale hotel within walking distance of Revolution hall. Parking is valet only and a decent fee. The place seems quiet and safe. Coffee and pastries were available for breakfast. The rooms were nice, with better than average decor and amenities. Mini bar was available in the room. We really spent a limited time in the room since we could easily wall to Revolution hall for a show and then left early the next day. Its just a little ways off I-5 and while not as easy as a exit hotel, not too bad during evening and weekends. Overall I do recommend and would stay again.

Hotel decor is great but we got there at 12 and was told check in isn't till 3pm which is fine. We get there at 3pm and the room was pretty but not clean. You can see dust bunnies everywhere. Location sucks, homeless people everywhere on the way to downtown. It'll take you a good 30mins to find a decent restaurant/coffee shop. It just was not really worth the stay in terms of location and cleanliness. HOWEVER, staff made it a pleasant stay, really took care of us. Shoutout to kim for being extremely friendly and helping out as much as possible.

The rooms were quite nice, everything seemed brand new, and the hotel vibe and interior is really nice! There is a grocery store close by where you can grab breakfast or coffee to go. I really liked the choice of the soap/body wash/body lotion from Diptyque. The staff was very friendly, and I would recommend staying here!

Safety
Did not feel unsafe in the neighborhood at any point during my stay.

This is a lovely hotel with beautifully thoughtful furniture in the lobby and great service. The bougie bar was super chill and drinks were good. Room service the next morning hit the spot. The hotel room is on the small side and feels a little bit budget. You can hear everything in the hall. The noise issue at night with the motorcycles is real and can be disturbing to even the heaviest of sleepers. Sadly, I probably wouldn’t stay here again if I had better options on the east side. This place is hip but is missing something to truly make it feel like a grand hotel. It sort of feels like a very nice hostel/hotel.

  • AnnaRose Adams

The hotel is beautiful and clean, but the windows are single paned up against a busy street and it is SO LOUD. I slept terribly even with ear plugs in. Garbage trucks, sirens, loud cars. It sounds like the windows are open. Also, while they advertise a fridge in the room, there was no space inside of it because it was filled with booze, so I had to take it all out to put my food items inside. The bed was comfortable and the shower is nice, but the noise and traffic is a big barrier and I would not stay here again because of it.

My family and I stayed at this hotel on August 14th and we both got rooms facing new construction. Beginning at 6am, the construction noise woke us up and couldn't go back to bed. It was advertised on expedia as "breakfast included". Please see the photo of what the hotels serves for breakfast. When I went in the morning to speak to the manager Amber, in my opinion she didn't address my concerns and she was not helpful. I will not be staying at this hotel again because I couldn't sleep due to the noise in the room and the breakfast was underwhelming.

I gave it one star because I couldn't give it zero stars. Horrible customer service, homeless all around the building, won't answer their phone, the most inept people on the planet employed by this circus of a hotel. Over charged me, charged my technician's credit card instead of mine, took me three phone calls to just get a hotel confirmation. Stay elsewhere; this place might be nice but when they can't even get the discount right, confirm reservations, charge the wrong people and keep the homeless from infesting the building then maybe stay elsewhere. Oh, and they refuse to answer their phones.

Wish I could give this super cute boutique hotel five stars. Unfortunately it is the worst shower I've ever seen. It's a rain type shower head. It only extends about 18inches from the wall so in order to be in the water, you're touching the handle and bumping into it. For some reason a wooden stool also lives is this shower stall that only has half a partition. The robes block the light sensor so the lights turn off mid shower. The aesthetic and location is amazing. The staff was friendly.

Pros: cute vintage hotel, nice bath robes, close to transportation, and cleaning staff was helpful. Cons: not the best location, homeless encampments near the neighborhood, light in the bathroom turned off 4 times while showering at night, room was cold the heater worked but in the winter the room gets really cold. The room needs curtains to keep the cold air out or double pane windows. No microwave to warm up food and the kitchen downstairs doesn’t have a microwave to warm up food or tea. Food at the deli is average.

I have stayed in many hotels worldwide. I found this hotel lacking for me what to me are basic necessities. No bottle water to buy and take with me, room very dark, no safe in room, only one iron for the whole hotel, no Jack Daniel, no coke or Pepsi only a Mexican Coca-Cola?? No cream for the coffee in the room, only Estevia. Then, we were charged a room rate double what is listed on the web site. Next time HILTON

Great place to stay in East side of Portland. Rooms were big and clean. Walkable to lots of pieces close by. The area around had a number of homeless people, they were fairly harmless and went about their business. Apart from the initial introduction to that we didn't really have any issues whatsoever. Would definitely keep on our list to stay again when back in Portland.

This hotel is very beautiful. The design is well-thought out and very trendy. We also enjoyed the cafe downstairs (great lattes and delicious English muffins!). The staff was very professional and friendly. The location is well-connected by public transit BUT there is a homeless shelter directly across the street, so there are many people on the street at all hours. We didn’t realize that until after we checked in. We still felt perfectly safe, but it is something to be aware of.

  • Steve Barnes

Mind-blowing and truly GRAND! Every aspect of the hotel, including the surprising Deli, the comfortable beds, fine linens and countless amenities. It’s a bargain and puts those chain motels to shame. The staff is young, professional and motivated. This place made our stay in Portland even better! Kudos to the designers, decorators and builders on the renovation. It’s Grand. And good WiFi.

Beautiful hotel with clean rooms and nice staff. Deli is permanently closed but the continental breakfast was great. You should be aware the hotel is across the street from a homeless shelter and the windows are single pane so you can hear the traffic all night. I barely slept the 2 nights I was here because of the noise. It sounded like the windows were open because of the single pane.

Hotels.com screwed up my reservation but the front desk clerk (I believe her name was rain) was very helpful and nice. She was able to get the mix up fixed and got us into a great room. The pet beds and biscuits were an awesome touch. If I stay in the area again I would absolutely go back to this location. The staff turned what could have been a disaster into a pleasant experience.

I stayed here in August 2021. It’s a beautifully designed place and the staff is nice, but it’s incredibly noisy, and I was shocked at the $125 pet fee. I only stayed one night, so the pet fee alone was almost as much as the room itself. Single pane windows means you’ll hear every car outside your window, so if you’re sensitive to noise, you should consider other places. Drag racing and motorcycle rallies are apparently a thing on Saturday nights in Portland.

Beautiful hotel. Love the green colors with the brown wood, looks very nice. Great food spot next door. Cool place. Location was pretty sketch though.. tons of homelessness everywhere you look. Looks like the pandemic hit hard here honestly. Only complaint about the actual hotel is the thin walls.. very noisy street and you can hear everything.

My wife and I had a lovely "staycation" at the hotel. The staff were helpful and happy, the space is very well designed and comfortable, and it was a bonus to have the great Café right in the building. While the urban location means it's a little edgy in the immediate area, it's also super convenient to be close to everything in the city.

I hosted 2 events with Hotel Grand Stark, including a full buyout of the hotel for my wedding weekend. They had some staff turnover, but then Scott and Julian worked tirelessly to make both events a success. Our guests from all over the world loved the hotel and the rooms; it's such a nice size (boutique withe a comfortable and inviting lobby), and they went above and beyond to help us with the extensive logistics.

Hotel: Very clean, beautifully designed and we loved our room. The bed was so comfortable and they really pump the AC here which is a relief from the humidity. Wish there was hand soap by the sink though... Staff: Friendly and accommodating Area: There are a lot of homeless people in the area which is something to be very aware of.

Great space. Lots of places inside to work during the day. They put out yummy croissants and coffee in the morning. Area is a bit sketch- we did get take out next door at “My Father’s Place”. Wouldn’t recommend walking around here at night. Back patio offered a quiet place to enjoy some jazz cabbage without being hassled. Would stay here again. Front desk and valet staff friendly and helpful.

  • Mallo Persico

Would recommend. The hotel has stylish Wes Anderson vibe to it and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. Comfy bed, evening 'social hour' with wine, and its nice to have the cafe in the lobby. Sweet old hotel; a shame- you get the feeling no one in management really cares about this hotel. They will get curious people staying one time because the hotel SOUNDS interesting and never again. I checked in on 13/03 I got probably the nosiest room facing the street! I asked for a change and after a couple of hours I got a quiet one. In the lobby there is a very strong smell of essence or air refresher that I need to cover my nose with a piece of cloth! anyway I will keep you updated and I hope my review for the next days will have positive things.

Room not cleaned on 2 days of my stay, unhelpful staff, room was dusty, hot water runs out quickly, quality of finishes in the room was low eg loose taps. They should focus on getting the basics right first. FYI the hotel is also across the road from a homeless shelter, was no issue for me in the end but one more thing to consider.

  • John Coates

Just terrible service. Location and rooms are good, as long as you find parking. My issue… was that the cold water didn’t work in my room and the front desk was like “whatever my husband will fix it in the morning…. Maybe 8am” please act with some certainty.

Hotel is clean and staff is friendly. It’s a beautifully restored hotel but it is on a busy street. The walls are a bit thin so you hear people coming and going. Good place to stay for a concert at the Rose Garden. They give you a white noise machine to help with the noise :)

  • Dave Driskill

Overpriced, tiny…and I mean tiny rooms. No chairs to sit on and the bed sits in the middle of the room? Parking is nonexistent and the neighborhood is sketchy at best. No air movement in the room and if you open the windows it’s loud. Never staying there again.

  • David J. Weiner

Very stylish and very comfortable. Well-stacked mini fridge. Bathroom could use a mirror, the only ones were above the sink in a separate area and a full length out in the room. This is a very new hotel, so I think they're still working out a few kinks.
