Attended a poorly executed and rigged volleyball tournament there this past weekend, and this is an understatement!!! The team that was in winning position for championship match were told they were in 3rd place because of the method the Hillwood "officials" utilized to qualify who was winning. Instead of who won most games (method commonly used ), they added points. So we left with 2 teams playing championship game that we had easily beat , how asinine is that! In addition to this rigged ranking system, they had referees that had no knowledge volleyball; calling balls "out" that were clearly on the line, and arguing that this was correct! They were strongly informed that this was wrong - basic VB101 . Line judges employed, were children from the team playing! They were calling balls before they hit the floor, and then calling balls incorrectly! These biased line judges were also talking to their teammates and telling them where to place ball. What happened to impartiality for line judges? When a school hosts a tournament, they are to provide items, and people to populate the scoring , and referees positions. Hillwood did not have flags for line judges, score keepers, and not even bags for popcorn. What a waste of time this experience was for all the other teams, coaches and parents, not to mention cost of gas, hotel rooms, food etc incurred , only to be cheated out of a fair tournament. If this is any example of this school, I feel bad for these students being taught by these uneducated and UNETHICAL coaches! The previous poor ratings for this school reflect this opinion.
For upcoming students of 2018-2019 school year, we are getting a new executive principal. Thankfully! Just beware there has been a great deal of lack of leadership to this school, student safety is an issue, student trust & lack of faculty/staff support. The current Executive principal has lied to MNPS and parents about law mandated safety policy/process. He does not support disciplinary issues with "certain" students. The school is very lax, does not utilize their Raptor system, students have free range of the entire school.
Horrible school! Teachers pick on certain students and do not help them learn. Everytime my son asked a question, they got on to him. If your kid gets bullied they won't do anything about it. Can' wait to get my kids away from that school. Good luck
