OK. HSBC is nothing but waste of your time. I waited for almost 3 weeks to open an account but it just wasted my time. I have three bank accounts with three different Australian Banks and I am happy with them. I just wanted to experience this Overseas bank and see how they do business. I applied online and supplied all required documents. I had first phone call during my office meeting with No caller ID and I answered the call and the gentleman started asking me my personal details, I was reluctant to answer but still I gave him all information that needed for an account to open. few days later again a phone call with No Caller ID and started asking me personal information, this time I gave him information with the fact that its a final phone call and my account would be open. third phone call after few days later and asking me same questions. I told the gentleman that look I am reluctant to give you my personal information, what's going on there he said no everything is ok its just compliance question. why you want to open account ? will you travel overseas? how often will you travel ? when is your next plan ? what anyways I answered the all the questions . Fourth time I had call from HSBC and started again asking same questions, I told them if you are planning to call me again for same questions please do not call me and just cancel my request for account. its my salary coming into your bank and my money will run your business you are not going to me any money, I should ask you many questions. anyways Just Rubishhhhhh Bank...

Opened a bank account online went through all the process and was told to bring passport and bank statement to the branch to finalise the process. Upon arriving the elder lady serviced me and was very friendly. Unfortunately things turn side way as my bank statement was not updated the address even though my address is in Australia and refuses to continue the process until i get my bank statement printed out from the other bank with my local address which is not a problem. I went to westpac to print out my updated bank statement and ran back to HSBC to give her my bank statement with correct address then she said the statement is empty which is obvious cause its the recent one where i have just updated my address. And she kept saying she cant process it and needed another document to be printed out from another bank so she checked with her manager and the manager said its okay to continue the process. Suddenly she noticed that my bank account name in westpac is double since i dont have last name and she said oh sorry the name is double and your name in passport only one single name so we cant process it even though date of birth, address, email and phone number are verified. She asked me to go to westpac and delete my second name and print a new bank statement and come back another day. What a waste of my time. Its such a terrible service in the end. Dont even think i will go back there anymore. It was around 3.30pm i arrived there which is almost closing time at 4pm she seems like very busy and cant handle another customer.

Applied for the credit card, with a descent financial background and other banks CC, after 3 weeks of sending emails, calling both ways etc, it went to asking me discriminating questions on the phone, where is the country of birth, while I'm Australian citizen, I asked them politely can you send the question using email? The Indian accent lady said no we can't, I asked her her name, she gave her first name, i asked her her family, she refused. She insisted on saying so you don't want to go further, I said I want to go further with the application but can only answer these question using email not over the phone. It was clear they knew they are doing wrong things, so she said OK I will call you back. Stay away from this bank, even if they are good with that, I won't go with this. Clearly this bank culture takes me into trouble later if we need their assistance. Stay away!!! Go to other banks like Commonwealth, ANZ or NAB

I recently visited the HSBC branch, and I must say I was disappointed with my experience. The welcome was far from warm, and I encountered a language barrier with one of the reception desk staff, she barely understood what I'm asking for! I asked from another staff to get my answers and he asked me strange and intrusive questions about my future transfers and the reason for opening the account. The entire encounter left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, so I decided to not open an account with them!!HSBC should improve their customer service and ensure that staff members are both courteous and respectful. They need to hire a professional staff with the good communication skills and English proficiency!! I hope my feedback helps them make necessary improvements.

I had the worst experience visiting this HSBC branch. After applying for credit card i was asked to visit branch to verify the ID.I thought it would be simple process so i went from my office during break time took my ID with me and visited the branch. To my utter shock and disappointment, when i went to the customer service counter, the agent told me that she can not verify ID instead she had to book an appointment for me to see someone else in the branch who would sit with me to verify the ID and the there is no one right now so i must wait for another hour.....seriously what a pathetic branch and its service!

Unfortunately another terrible experience... I setup a bank account with HSBC in order to bank a foreign cheque in euros, as they are an international bank and one of few banks that still accept foreign cheques and advertise it as such. But apparently the Adelaide branch has decided it doesn't accept foreign cheques in Euros.. and didn't even look at their system or website which states that they do. I called up HSBC who said it might just be a decision of the branch and suggested trying another branch. (Of which there aren't any in Adelaide) At any rate, don't waste your time.

Being a long time client, one would expect the bank would treat you well and with decency, but no, the customer service officer was very poorly trained. The manager was called in and he was the most inhospitable and most patronising bank manager I have ever met. It looks like HSBC, being an international bank, has put very little interest in serving clients in Adelaide. If HSBC is really serious about Adelaide, this kind of poor customer services would never have happened. I think the bank manager should step aside and resign for such bad aptitude.

i needed to open an account for a money transfer from overseas, they started asking me irrelevant questions and asking for documents (which i provided and emailed to them), but yet no follow up on the process and wasted a couple of days. i emailed the staff member who was supposed to take care of the issue stating that this is unacceptable and asked him to cancel my request to open a new account, and guess what? no reply to that email as well! EXTREMELY poor customer service, very unclear process. i regret my decision to go there.

I just came back from an overseas trip. This is the first time I used HSBC visa card to shop in another county. I was terrified that when I spent over $7,000 out of Australia, there was no message asking if I have used the visa card shopping overseas. All banks in Hong Kong and most of the banks in Australia will alert their customers when they found something unusual is happening. Visa cards being stolen and used are very common in the world. Other banks has improved their customer services but this one. So disappointed!

  • shanan McCarthur

Applied for a measly 4600 credit card to get gas heating throughout my house, hsbc are the only bank the heating place do loans through. I earn good money, credit history is also good, mortgage is interest only so low and lease a car through work and didnt get approved. When i called to ask why, they refuse to give me an answer. Said it has nothing to do with my earnings but against their policy to tell me why. Now im going to struggle applying through other banks because ive been knocked back.

  • Robert Elphick

Had to do my application for an account 3 times and still wasn't good enough even knowing all the information was correct. Online application form is glitchy. Rung HSBC and they told me i needed to take ID to this branch to confirm my account when I reached the branch they had no idea what their own procedure was and wouldn't sight my ID and confirm my account. Cancelled account and will go elsewhere. Seems like no one at HSBC has any idea what they are doing or what products they are selling.

  • Balaji Viswanathan

Very disappointed with the customer facing staff and the way they address queries. It made me feel for a minute that they don’t care about your business with them. Have been a HSBC customer for over 15 years in different countries but never ever felt so disappointed as with the Adelaide branch. Not very professional attitude and lotsa training required if HSBC has to compete for market space in this country. I felt the local banks do a great job compared to them. I am now thinking...

  • I H

They knew nothing about their jobs - got enough money in my account to make a bank transfer however was told not enough in there. After the transfer I asked for one more question about retrieving my mobile bank account name to login back to their one of the worst mobile bank APPs the lady was very impatient saying there are other customers waiting behind so thats all she can tell me??? That’s very eye opening customer service I’ve ever had.

  • Daksha Ramesh Swaminathan

The HSBC you walk into now, is unlike the one you would expect to walk into a few years ago. The service is now prompt, efficient and solution oriented. A large part of the credit can be attributed to Mr Sesh Vidyam, the branch manager, whose experience and presence have changed the customer service experience at HSBC Adelaide. Hoghly recommend the branch for your banking needs ! It’s been our trusted family bank for years now.

  • Wei Kang

Worst bank I've ever used. They locked my accounts for several months with no reason. I went to the branch multiple times and called service line many times, no progress. It seems they only have staff working in the branch and everyone else in the back end never work never make any progress. I have been waiting for months just waiting for them to unlock my accounts. Such a terrible bank, Would give a rating of 0 if possible

  • Kareem Albasiouny

The Worst Banking experience ever. I went to the branch, No one asked if i need help, I had to go and find a customer service person to talk to, then I opened an account but when I went to deposit money in, they told me they'll charge me 1.25% !! The customer service person told me there is no charge to deposit but on the counter they wanted to charge. Closed the account the same day ! will never deal with HSBC again!

  • Vikash Ramiah

Most racist institution in Adelaide. The staff cannot speak English but the manager is an Adelaide woman. Cannot be more cliche than this. If you are not asian looking, good save you. The manager turn out to be my wife’s friend but man she was so fake! Did not trust the staff, let alone the manager! They asked me to go to Dubai to open an account ! I travelled here to open a savings account but it did not happen!

  • Smile G

bad experience! i don't have good experience in this Adelaide Branch. Customer service office suppose to deal with the issue with calm manner but build up the fire. if i am the employer of this bank, i won't hire them. incompetent customer service. very inconvenience for the client. i am so upset the treatment that gave to me even though i am with them more than 10 years. time to move on to other bank.

  • Dominic Tam

Wonderful and exceptional services in Adelaide branch! Especially, I would like thanks Rachel Zhou and Laylee Chua who were showcasing an utmost professional attitude and perfection thought out of my account opening process. The staffs in this branch made sure all my queries were resolved with their warm reception and patience. Overall, marvellous experience and well done!

  • Jessica Blaby

Terrible customer service. "Computer says no" is their general attitude. I have an error on my account that is self confessed the fault of HSBC, yet they keep bouncing me back to different departments both on phone and in person, and when I ask how they propose to rectify the situation, I'm told "I don't know, why don't you go and try to call xx department again".

  • Penny Gol

Really poor service. Even u called and check with the costumer service They still charge u all of the extra fees they didn't tell you. And u should get changed because it's writen on their website. No one take the responsibility for the wrong information provide. U will get $10 extra if u receive fund from another bank. That's on top of the banking service fee

  • Matthew Adams-Richardson

I just had a wonderful first time service from Noelle from HSBC Adelaide. I turned up with no appointment or anything and rather than turn me away, she sorted out my account opening then and there. Was very efficient and polite, this bodes well compared to my usual big 4 bank service I get and look forward to many years of doing business and banking with HSBC.

  • philip blue

Extremely incompetent staff. Huge lack in customer service. Even if you have a customer account abroad they just turn down any help to find a solution. This branch was not able to swap a damaged Australian note to a new one. Its not a big issue to take care of that but they make it a huge thing. Would NOT recommend that branch to anyone who is well suited.

  • Gene Sokolov

Not sure about HSBC bank as a whole, but the Adelaide branch is a joke. Their customer services is horrible, to open an account you actually need to be worthy of being their client. I wanted to open an everyday account for my wife, instead they wasted our time and, and their customer consultant was rude as, we felt like we were there for a job interview.

  • Hamid Nourbakhsh

Racism policy enforcement HSBC has a policy which allow them to discriminate customer based on their race, if you born in certain country then you are criminal by default and you need to prove otherwise (even if you are Australian citizen), see it for yourself on their website. not sure why Australian government allow such a policy enforced!

  • Brett McMahon

This is not directed at the Adelaide branch, but at HSBC as a company. I find their internet banking ridiculously complicated and I've just tried to call (132 152) to make a payment and after entering my card details and a few other details I was placed on hold. After 5 minutes it went quiet and then hung up on me. Cheers

  • lisa lau

Adelaide branch is really a joke!!! I have completed the acc application form online, went to the branch, but lady at the teller didn't even know which documents are making 100 points, working in the bank and doesn't know how to count?!?!?! Wonted me to bring the whole "library" with me,just to be on the"safe side" joke

  • Yonathon Boyle

I had a great experience with the staff. After spending a frustrating week calling and trying to get something done with the 1300 number and being told that I cannot do it in the branch, I went in anyway and they fixed my issue within 5 minutes. They were understanding and courteous and really helped me in a bind

  • Abc Abc

These lot are seriously in need of some customer service training. Had to go in twice in order to open an account and the officer cannot even be bothered to return my phone call. Had to get another person from the NSW branch to sort out my problem (all via email exchange). Shame on you hsbc Adelaide.

  • Peter Miller

I have been a customer of HSBC for over 20 years. I recently tried to set up a new joint account with my partner and they refused because she is not a citizen! So we went to Westpac and got one no problems. To make things worse the HSBC rep said we were a bad couple and should not be together!

  • Joe Ferry

I have a Global US dollar account with HSBC. I went into the Adelaide Branch to deposit US dollars into my account and was told they don't accept foreign cash. Pointless having a Global US account with a Bank that doesn't accept cash in that currency. Absolutely useless. What a joke.

  • Karl Hall

Made a interest free purchase and was told the minimum payments required, was happy till $600+ dollars ended up on a 26% interest, they lie about the amount required to pay off a promotion like interest free so the amount of the purchase is not covered in the allotted time.

  • M L

Been a customer for over 10 years at this branch. Recently went to open a joint account with my partner, we were treated very poorly from start to end. I am not surprised seeing other poor reviews. This bank seems to have forgotten it survives because of its customers...

  • shaen c

The system of HSBC is sososso bad. I never seen the system bad like that. They need the device to transfer, this is so bad and always error! I don't want to use HSBC anymore.. why don't they just cancel the device when make transfer, so trouble and easy to error!

  • udhay reddy

Recently opened a Bank Account at Adelaide branch. Staff were very helpful. Especially Rachel who opened my account. It was fast process and Rachel explained everything very well. Their Relationship manager Dunstan was very professional and helped me all along.

  • Gauravh Mahajan (GAMAA)

Pathetic Service...No Service at branch or Customer care. They suspended my Internet banking without informing me and I had to make endless calls a day visit the branch to get this resolved with no resolution so far. Pls don't bank with them at all...

  • John Porter

Seriously hopeless customer service staff. They need training along with some improved business processes. I came in for what should have been a fast transaction, and ended up being passed between two different staff who doubled on each others work.

  • Mitchell Carli

nothing against the staff, but the whole bank is terrible. half the online services when you have a credit card don't work, terrible communications. PLEASE use a different bank if you want a credit card. absolutely woeful service for 2020-2021

  • j w

Very poor experience. I called their HQ phone and was told there is no need a booking to open a new account, and when I got there the teller told me I must book otherwise they can not open account for me. Obviously, this is a fake HSBC branch!

  • SM De Mel

The staff were very helpful, courteous and made sure all the security checks were done before they authorized the withdrawal. I must say technology seemed to give them problems but they problem solved as a team and got the job done.

  • Joal Downing

My partner and I had the best experience ever with this HSBC branch. Both Noelle and another lady (forgotten name apologies!) were super quick and helpful. The manager also gave us an umbrella when we left! Brilliant experience.

  • Sunny Effat

It depends on your luck. Some staff are good, some aren't and are pretty laid back to say the most. The services reflect the culture and management of that specific bank wherever it is located. Deal with it or go to other banks.

  • Max Fry

Service is generally very poor at the Adelaide branch. Beyond that, i have never understood why they charge a $5 fee for a counter withdrawal. These are last straws that are making me close my account. Good luck.

  • David McDonnell

Just waited 35 minutes to get service....luved every minute of it. Then someone in premier who was there for 5 minutes got served before me....loved that even more. I had a laugh and just walked out.

  • FRANK !!!!!

Either HSBC doesnt train the employees here or they dont care about customers, whatever the case this is the worst customer service EVER! Ill never bank with HSBC no matter where i go

  • Oho h

mum went into this branch to open a new account, they refused because mum doesn't speak their language even they have a staff can translate. They don't know what is customer service.

  • Calvin Miner

Great place to get clean money when yours gets dirty. Juarez and Culiacán have a lot of dust and grime. HSBC is only happy to oblige. Best of all, they don't ask any questions!

  • Zak Ward

Tried for 1 month to get my 3 months statements for a house loan application, terrible service 4 phone calls still no statements going to the ombudsman terrible bank

  • Ronette Pinto

The staff at HSBC are always extremely friendly and super helpful. Their customer service has been great every single time I’ve needed help with my banking.

  • Paul Thornton

I would not recommend HSBC as a bank for Adelaide. They only have the one branch and really have no consideration to you as a customer. Try somewhere else.

  • Jimmy Yao

Called customer service for registration assistance 4 times, and got hang up every time for no reason. That problem has not been solved till now.

  • David Weight

I love the attention to details and old style security. Yeah it may take a bit longer, but these guys look after your hard earned cash!
