Today is opening day for Green Fresh Supermarket! What a breath of fresh air. We live a stone throw away from the new market, and I had been initially disappointed to see the bowling alley closing down. Now, months later, with rising food costs, increased transportation costs, and housing swiftly becoming unaffordable, Green Fresh Supermarket has offered a breath of 'Fresh' air. Upon entry to the market on the right hand side are a number of cookware, dishware, and utensil items, including small appliances such as pressure cookers and rice cookers, all VERY reasonably priced, and of seemingly good quality. Directly ahead is the well-stocked and diverse produce area, which at the time of writing has such great deals that I think my household can breathe a sigh of relief and adjust our food budget down about 15%. For those unfamiliar with Asian foods, there are a number of delightful surprises waiting for you here! Take your kids and try a new fruit! They'll love the names! Beyond the produce section is **FINALLY** a well stocked seafood department with such staples as oysters, muscles, crab, lobster, and other live fish. The monger seemed knowledgeable and handled his product proficiently. Circling around the store in a counter clockwise direction is the meat section, which isn't as full as some other places like Loblaws, but still contains enough variety and good enough prices to compel the average shopper. Around the left side of the store contains the frozen goods and refrigerated goods section, with a plethora of new delights to sample. In the middle are the aisles, with some great and unique finds such as Raspberry/Blueberry Oreos, and other wonderful, delicious delights. A must see for the thrifty foody, and a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Highly recommend!

I usually trust and like this unique Asian Supermarket much more than my experience this time. I will state why I was disappointed this time. Since I am very thorough reviewer I will still talk about the positive aspects. It has a large variety of Asian and international fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen fish, and ready foods. I love their spring rolls frozen and ready, 1 kilo for under $5. And their shrimp too, both breaded and not breaded. The fish and meat dept have fresh and frozen varieties. The fresh fish can be cleaned for you, they add $1 to the price of fish on average. Usually the fish gets cleaned washed, and packed beautifully and is worth every penny. BUT NOT this last visit... My fish was not cleaned well enough, not cut right at the guts, not flushed and washed well, and had unclear water in the bag by the time I got home. I had to clean the fish myself even though I paid for it. When I made a complaint later, I was told I should have made the complaint within 24 hours... Same thing applies for bad fruits, which applied to the bad "seedless" watermelon that was total garbage. The watermelon had seeds as you will see in the pics, and was so bad that part of melon was totally liquified. Again I did not make the call within 24 hours, all I got is reminder of the rules and sorry about the bad melon. For the fish, I was told we will remind the fish guy to do a better job. Total disappointment from a place I always trusted. I was slapped with the rules in my face. I know this will make me think twice before I get certain things. Pots and pans, teas and so many Asian groceries can be found here. So many beautiful unique items are found here. It is worth visiting still, but watch out for certain items.

Today, October 13th, 2023, was my first time in a Green Fresh Supermarket. I have been excited to go since it first opened. Today after work my husband and I decided to stop at the store. We walked in and I asked my husband to grab a grocery cart. My husband went outside the store to get the cart and came back into the store asking me for a loonie to put in the cart. He went back outside with the loonie and the owner of Green Fresh proceeded to yell at my husband in front of other customers asking him what he was doing because he went out of the store and came back in twice. My husband was embarrassed and confronted the owner on why he was yelling at him in front of customers as he did nothing wrong, and the owner completely ignored him. The owner's behavior was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. The customer service from the store employees that I came in contact with were horrible, except for the two young women at the bubble tea restaurant who were excellent (smiling, friendly, just all around excellent customer service). The grocery conveyor belt at the cash registers were extremely dirty and I don't think have ever been washed or sanitized. I want to thank the owner of Green Fresh (Vanier) for giving my husband and I a horrible experience with our first time in the store.

I give them a 3 star as their new store is a lot cleaner and no nauseous smells. Their selection of oriental noodles and sauces is amazing. However produce freshness is subpar, example green onions are small and appear wilted. Their produce is expensive for example the gold kiwi basket was 9.99$, I saw the same basket for 5.99$ at Farm Boy. I have been to their new store three times looking specifically for Thai basil without any success. The first time I went, in July, they had just opened so I forgave them, I asked a produce employee, he was very nice and said they had problems with they supplier. The second time, in October I was surprised. Yesterday, the third time I was a little frustrated. I asked an employee whether they had Thai basil, he pointed to the produce area. I replied I had looked and I have been three times without success. Asked again when the Thai basil would come in... his reply "I don't know". Last time I visit this store.

Spanking new, clean Asian market with many hard-to-find, well-spaced-out imported and Canadian- originated ingredients, Asian greens, fresh meats & fish and seafood, though overhead signage needs to be better thought out as even the English-challenged staff can't seem to find garlic roasted peanuts in the shell, dried egg noodle nests, tamarind paste & fresh wide rice noodles. There is also no bakery or barbecue meat counter; meat butchers are no longer visible to easily assist in the cutting of special cuts of meat. Not all greens (celery) are refrigerated either and may look wilted. Dynamic pricing might force you to buy 2 items to get the best price when you only need one (green onions, parsley). But the Filipino, Japanese, Korean & frozen product selections have greatly improved from what was offered in the old store. Finally, an impressive Asian market in Ottawa East with ample parking close to Hwy 417 worthy of competing with T&T!

Great Asian Grocery store, has everything from some appliances and beauty, to a butcher and fish section. The selection of foods was great, featuring Japanese, Korean, and Chinese staples, as well as various fruits and vegetables that are harder to find. My sister was very pleased at the selection of frozen vegetarian friendly dumplings which she has had trouble finding in other stores like T&T. The rice cooker and appliance selection isn't bad, but is smaller than some stores I've seen, and the beauty/self-care section has some staples and some "fad" items as well. The layout is very interesting as it is located in what used to be an old bowling alley and has ramps. The store is fairly easy to navigate overall, and the design looks very modern. The only thing that was lacking and gets a bit of a negative was the "bakery" section which had almost nothing and there were some fruit flies around it. Overall not a bad store.

It's quite dirty here. Staff is rude. Forget customer service. It feels as though you should be grateful to give them your business. Lots of Asian stuff, but I really question the sanitary condition here. Lots of parking, but there's a lot of unsavoury types out and about in the parking lot. Not an overly nice place to be. But if you REALLY HAVE TO HAVE Asian stuff...take your chances. This is updated in March 2020: A year on, there's apparently been new management or ownership. The inside is much nicer now. Aisles are wider, and there's actually a lot of products and quite well-arranged. Service is the same, which is to say horrible, especially at checkout. That rudeness hasn't changed, so I guess they must have kept the old staff. But the store is much nicer now, and product selection is good. If not for the rude service, I would give it a four star.

What is wrong with these orientals? Don't they know that in Canada it is mandatory to place working hours of any establishment on its front door? It doesn't apply to Green Fresh store, obviously. Doors are closed on Friday at 7 PM, even though some employees are walking inside. Customers come & go, facing locked doors with no information on them whatsoever. I'm never coming back again, & advise people do the same. In my Canadian Customer understanding I expect to see some clear information on the front door of any business where I come to spend my money, especially when it comes to the grocery store. I guess, this particular grocery store doesn't want customers' money. OK, then, there are other stores around.

Update 2019: great renovation. Store is clean. But the takeout counter is what attracted me. I miss it a lot. Staff could try a bit harder to be pleasant. The smell close to the fish counter is horrendous. is that inevitable? Customer service is non existant. I stood 15 minutes by the meat counter while 3 guys were chopping meat, ignoring customers. If you buy something rotten (bad meat) , you cant even communicate to return it! Sad, because I enjoy the variety of foods they offer. I love their fresh herbs. I like to buy their (frozen) kangaroo meat. Great if you have a dog ; fresh meat is very reasonable. I find great bones for my dog ! But so much room for improvement...

I am looking for a box of ginseng. The store is 35 minute walk from my house. Lady said she will not give price over phone even though she was holding the box in her hand. I could understand if i was price checking something cheap like ketchup sure. First store in Canada that has told me this. The local store does not appear to have a website. What kind of games are they playing ? You expect people to walk over an hour just to do a price check? What about seniors and disabled people? Absolutely ridiculous. I prefer to support local businesses but looks like I have to go with amazon.

This supermarket food we need to buy very carefully They sale the food already got bad We bought tofu that suppose to be expired after 8days already got bad and we ate and had stomach pain. We went to ask to return and they said we supposed to come back in 24 hours to return the items. How can the person who ate the spoiled food and got sick come to return in 24 hours . They have to first apologize to customer but they are even angry because we didn’t return in 24 hours This kind service is very dangerous They look at there people as money and they don’t care other life .

  • Tong Wu

Today, I had a very horrible experience at Green Fresh. I asked the employees several times for help and although there were no other clients, I was ignored and none of the staff responded. After raising the issue with the customer service, the lady responded that today is Easter Monday and only our store is open. Do we live in the same Ottawa? The majority of retail stores including Metro and FreshCo are open. Regardless, even if it was a holiday and they are the only store open, it is not a reason or excuse for their poor customer service. Your staff owes me an apology.

  • Aimee Lin

Poor quality product and terrible customer service. I purchased a small saucepan here. After using it twice, this is what it looks like now. I asked the customer service for a return. And they said only unused product could be refunded. Interesting. How am I supposed to know a product is of poor quality if I don’t try it? The representative educated me that it was my responsibility to judge the quality of a product before purchasing and asked me to buy more expensive products if I need quality. What a genius! I can’t believe this store is in Canada.

  • Monarch E

Reasonable pricing on vast majority of the product, an extremely strong and solid (albeit less well known) competitor versus T&T. The missing 1 star constitute with multiple occasions of getting vegetables that grew moldy just days after purchase. Also had the experience of finding produce that were entirely covered in mold on the bottom of said products. Green Fresh's strong suit remains in regular groceries, as well as meat products. But has a less than stellar vegetable and seafood department.

  • Rizalyn Sto Tomas

I have not been to new location yet and I wish you put english numbers on prices for your website flyers, I had a bad experience from the old location and 1staff in meat department does not want me to pick when I point out which one I want and even yell and said no in cantonese which I have a basic knowledge for that language so since then I limit buying meat in your store. I just buy pre-pack products in shelves. Hopefully your staff are more friendly this time, thank you

One of the best markets in the Vanier area for fresh, healthy, and affordable choices. Having access to fresh fruits and vegetables at undeniably lower prices is so important in this area, but beyond that, their quality is unbeatable! It is always a pleasant and safe atmosphere where you can discover new favorites right alongside your old ones. The new location is clean and well suited to their business. I love this store! Remember to bring a loonie to unlock the carts :)

  • Gino Lee

I liked shopping at the old one and the new one is even better. The prices are always good compared to T&T. Gala apples were 1.99 while they were 2.99 at T&T. The new place is much larger, cleaner and brighter. There is lots of Asian frozen foods, not just Chinese stuff. Lots of variety of vegetables to choose from. Again, they have some varieties of vegetables that I've never seen T&T carry. Hope they can keep this a nice place to get groceries at.

  • Brian Eng doing his Theng!

This is a bit of a hidden treasure in Ottawa. The variety of foods that can be found here is impressive. Especially since the foods are fresh. It's not a gigantic supermarket but it is well organized and very clean. You'll find things here that you will not be able to find in other supermarkets. It is definitely worth the adventure to get there. You can explore new dishes to make and come up with new ideas.

  • Christine C

The new building is much much better than the older building. It's much cleaner and organized. And it seems like they've got better selection now than before. They also got lots of Philippine items which I'm really happy for because it's quite hard to find here in Ottawa. The staff are nice, and the prices are ok. Maybe a little on the expensive side but it beats going all the way down to T&T.

  • Michelle Reynolds

There is 1 emloyee that can speak English!!! There is fresh produce, and very long aisles of wonderful cooking spices, supplies. A fresh fish market and a butcher. The seafood area has quite a lot of exposed fish. There is a hot food buffet as well as roasted duck and rotisserie BBQ pork. Definitely an Asian market place, with primarily Asian /Japanese. Products. Such nice staff. #localguide

  • Jim Purchase

Update 2022 New Store!! I visited the new store on its opening day (July 26) and wow what a turn out. The place was packed last night. Lots of selection of Asian goods! The new parking lot is a lot smaller but I think it will be perfect as it most likely won’t be this busy all the time. AWESOME STORE! A wide variety of Asian foods including fresh fish, vegetables, meat and snacks.

  • Yasser Abed

Very rude, no customer service, and I had a pre-paid master card I wanted to pay with, and she said they don't take swip cards, only chip cards? Their machine supported swip. She started talking Chinese with the other lady and as if I was a criminal paying with a stolen card. I would never set foot in this store again! Ohh and their parking lot is very hard to navigate and tight.

  • B L

Parking is more than adequate. This is not a Canadian Tire, you're not gonna get a sea of parking. Besides, it's easily accessible by 3 bus routes, 9, 14, and 19. 5 stars for convenience, 3 stars for prices. Overall 4/5. I'd say the selection is skewed towards East Asian. Asia is huge and its cuisine is even more varied - impossible for a store to encompass everything Asian.

  • Chris N

My new favorite Chinese supermarket! I shopped here today for the first time since they relocated. It's clean, bright and spacious and the selection of fresh produce, meat and non-perishable goods is outstanding! My daughter who is obsessed with all things Korean loaded up on Korean snacks and noodles. A nice selection of Japanese, Vietnamese and Philipino foods as well.

  • Jens Weber

Great variety of products, and the development of some stalls (waffles, tea) is a wonderful addition. Hopefully more to come. The one aspect I find a little unfortunate is the very shy interactions with staff. They know a lot and are very friendly but don't seem to be as interested in a chat with customers. Regardless, I enjoy coming here and prices are good.

  • Wendy Xie

An excellent addition to the neighbourhood! THEY HAVE FRESH EGG WAFFLES NOW!!! Lots of parking, good selection, and produce is usually fresh. Sometimes the fruit freshness is a bit subpar, but things in season are usually great! I love the seafood section at the back - amazing prices and quality! The store has everything you need and the staff are so nice!

  • Tom H

Lovely Asian supermarket just east of downtown (Vanier area) - the new location on MacArthur Ave is big, clean and spacious. Extremely well organized and labeled adequately for those that can't read Chinese. Place carries goods for Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine as well. It's the budget T&T Supermarket for the East side (sorry Orleans natives)

  • Veins Paul

The customer service is perfectly acceptable. Don't expect someone to teach you how to buy Chinese vegetables, do your own research. Great selection of produce and cuts of meat. If you're looking for something that's not a pork loin, chicken breast or a round roast, then this place is for you. Imported items are always pricey, as per usual.

  • Sam Tse

Like the new location, looks clean. One thing though, all the meats seems to be loosely wrapped and every item you pick up is wet, and yes, some of it is blood. They don't have any paper towels or sanitizers to clean your hands. Workers seen what's happening, but they just looked at you and walked away. This needs to be addressed.

  • John Gates

One of the best Asian grocery stores in the city. Has a great selection of ramen noodles I cannot find elsewhere close to me. Has a great selection of ingredients to make hot pot. Excellent assortment of uncommon and hard to come by Asian seasonings and spices. Produce is always super fresh. Great prices on meats.

  • Jean-Pierre Gbegan

Fresh food and clean place. It almost feels like a soothing experience when you do your groceries there. The only thing that could make this place even better would be to have more employees available to help new customers find their way through the store and also provide help in finding a specific article.

  • William U

There is no customer service from the meat department, plus rude or maybe a language barrier or out of laziness. They have 2 set meat ban saw, and they still couldn't provide us with a service we needed, As a home cooking trying to make ox tail, how are we supposed to chop up a big piece of bone.

  • Leilani Schultz

The already packaged meat and seafood are mixed with the old stock but looks like fresh When I cook it is inedible. The smell was unbelievable. Never again. And on top of that it's overpriced. Superstore, No frills and Walmart has international aisle where you can find those things 3.50$ cheaper

  • Henry

Big store with an excellent variety of different asian ingredients. Good quality meats and fresh fish. Only issue and thing I would warn other shoppers about is I find a lot of their vegetables are of really poor quality. I'll get onions and when I cut them open, they're rotten on the inside.

  • Dung L

A nice clean Asian supermarket in Vanier. While I was saddened that we lost the bowling alley, I am glad to see that green fresh for a major refresh. I wish there was a hot food section, but am not complaining at the bubble waffle station. Nice and friendly staff. Would recommend.

  • Goutham Vasam

Underrated supermarket. They do have various fresh Asian vegetables, sometimes pricey but worth it. Frozen goat meat with bones is pretty good. They get good fish like Catfish or King. They have Dungeness crab and sometimes blue crab too. Seemingly rude but friendly service.

  • Alexandra Thompson

This store has a great variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. They have a large seafood section with live fish, so it is very fresh. They also have competitive prices on meat and seafood, which makes is a great place to shop. It can get pretty busy on weekends.

  • Robin Pianosi

Ohmygoodness what a GREAT new store!! Great variety, spacious aisles, and good prices! New favourite Asian grocery store. They have fresh produce and meats, lots of groceries and frozen stuff, but then also a small kitchen section and a skin care section!

  • Allyson

Great prices. Fresh vegetables; Chinese vegetables that you don't usually find in Loblaws/Walmart. Love that I don't have to go all the way to T&T to get most Asian items. Cashiers are almost always rude and unpleasant but I'm used to it by now...

  • S

Went in today to try out the new location. Stunning! Really shows off the stores variety, clean well lit and well organized, fruit and veg looked very tempting. Great skin care section, good spot to pick up sunscreen. Great new start for the shop.

  • AH Yaqoobi

I bought 2 sauce, I didn't check the expire date in the store but when I opened and eat a little then suddenly I looked at the date and unfortunately it is expired nine months ago in July 2022. Please check every thing you buy from this store.

  • Yewen Tan

It has a variety of Asian grocery choices. The customers are quite diverse. The new location is much nicer, though parking is a little bit more limited but usually not a big issue. It's clean and pleasant and I enjoy shopping groceries there.

  • Yellow Verde

Good job on hiding all the fatty pieces on the bottom of the package so customers can't see it. Last time I'm buying meat from you people. I work in a Chinese kitchen and I don't give that much fat to my customers. You people need to learn

  • Fiona Zhu

I would give 0 star if I could. They don’t even sanitize at casher. I see four customer in front of me went through and the cashier didn’t sanitize at all!!! It freaks me out. Since it’s under such critical time and they don’t even follow

  • Darla Christina Elysée

My favorite Asian store. You can find literally EVERYTHING there. Im always at this store when i run out 10/10 and now that it's bigger, there are more things. Hope it gets even BIGGER and they have even more authentic Asian food!

  • Konstantin Smolentsev

Good Asian supermarket in Ottawa. It has lots of grocery items including fish and meat. Lots of parking. But, this store is not following COVID guidelines. Cashiers do not sanitize between customers and baskets are not sanitized.

  • Annie Xiong

Very clean and well-organized store for all your Asian food needs! They have so many sauces, condiments, and spices and good prices on vegetables. You can find any you need for Asian cooking here. HIGHLY recommend this place.

  • Mustafa Ismail

If you want meat from unknown origin, produce that will go bad in 2 days, and seafood from the depths of hell, this is your store. The only good thing is the Asian snacks and frozen section, they should have stuck with that

  • Shaun Cheese

Great place to buy pork and beef bone. Not many asian supermarkets in the area and this one has a lot of stuff that other big chain grocery stores don't carry. Too bad they don't have any flyers online to compare prices.

  • Kimberley

Hands down the worst smelling grocery building I’ve ever been in. I don’t see how the smell doesn’t deter people from buying anything other than dry goods. I was afraid if I stayed too long, that the scent would cling

  • Willy Tailgo

It's the second time I've seen a whole rack of molded taros at the store (green parts). They also trick ppl into buying veggies and fruits by showing the pretty sides only, so check everything before you buy them!!

  • Chris B

Sells a wide variety of products from household to personal hygiene items, fruits, vegetables, fresh and frozen meat, fish tea juices, snacks list goes on gotta check it out prices are pretty reasonable

  • Jinbon Lau

Great grocery store for asian groceries. A bit pricey and the produce is hit or miss (a few times, we had to go back to the store for a refund/exchange as our produce was moldy). Way less busy than T&T.

  • Joanne Walker

Very nicely organized Asian grocery store in Vanier. We need you in the neighbourhood. I really hope that you will consider adding a bakery to your offerings to make this a one stop shop for groceries.

  • Patience Ikombele

Wasn't happy at the sea food corner. They've got bad attitude, while we were standing in a line for a long time, they try to jump me and my husband to help a Chinese boy, maybe be cause we are black.

  • K P

Deals every week to get you there with super prices, and then you buy more. Nothing that one doesn't already know. It is a fun store to peruse for the many ethnic food products that are sold there.

  • Robin Aldos

Surprised to see it open on Easter Sunday! Was generally clean considering how busy it was. So much selection. Veggies were fresh and fully stocked. There was so many varieties of instant noodles

  • A H

Don't like their parking lot and wish the city would add a left turn lane coming from Loblaws...Green Fresh moved to this location after McArthur transformed into one-lane both directions.

  • Sylvie Morissette

I like this place for all the veggies that they have. However, you have to be careful because they sell expired food and it doesn't look like the government is regulating this place.

  • Christian Liu

One of the best Asian supermarkets in Ottawa. Better selection, quality, and prices compared to T&T. The only down side of this location is its limited parking and the neighborhood.

  • Felicia Z

Ok I really didn’t know the paper bag in the fish shop is only for crabs and lobsters, no need react so rude, twice. I have no interest taking advantage of one paper bag, thanks.

  • Bruce Ly

A decent selection of Asian products and basic housewares at good prices. Most perishable items were fresh. Store is cleaner than their old location. Don't expect good service.

  • Patrick Dean

Much improved. New shop, clean and fresh. Good choices, not as extensive as t&t but at least, when we were there, better quality. Prices good but nothing stood out as cheaper.

  • Chloe Ho

That was the 2nd best Asian market I have ever been to, yes, good food selling, Asian products, and many good stuff. I have tried the egg waffle and it was totally delicious.

  • Yves Labbe

Great fruits/vegetables and meat locally sourced. They offer a different selection of grocery products than what you find in other food stores. Could be a bit pricey though.

  • Chris Commandant

Wonderful place to get ready to eat steamed buns. Your instant noodle fix and a wide variety of Asian condiments and ingredients. Excellent pork and seafood offered fresh.

  • Ligaya Tan

You can find almost everything in this store .. very nice the fruits, vegetables are all very fresh, and I love there meat specially the beef .. like Korean cut beef.

  • Simon S

The supermarket has a good collection of Chinese and other Asian food, ingredients and vegetables. It has merchandises you would expect from a modern supermarket.

  • SUNNY K

I don't even know what is snow pea tips... I got korean small cabbage for $12.37 But casher charge me more than beef price...6.99/1b Check your receipt...

  • DY

Great fresh items! Selection is great. Very clean. Checkout is easy and fast. I love their prices and they have chinese and korean and a lot of selection.

  • Yiming L

Great grocery store! Now I won’t have to drive all the way to T&T. Clean and well stocked! Layout is spacious and it has a seafood nook at the back.

  • Ruby Dehad

Very good asian store, place super clean and tidy, alot of asian fruits selection, love the korean product too... Now this is my favorite asian store.

  • Tom Payne

The new store is a huge improvement on the old one. Clean, bright, large selection. A bicycle rack to lock up our bikes while shopping is needed.

  • Yu-Chin Tseng

I was very disappointed that the meats were not fresh. And the boxes around the frozen area, when you walk around, are very easy to bump them.

  • Jean Claude Fenelon

The fruit quality is no Good. I buy dragon for 16.00 is like wate money. I also buy a soousap for 30.00 when I when inside inside rotten.

  • Andrew Stewart

Prices: 4.5 stars / 5 Everything fresh is well priced, everything frozen is medium, everything preserved is pricier (probably imported)

  • Jeff Contant

Nice place in town. Clean and organized. Not enough cashiers. Long waiting line. Found everything in there.
