I recently purchased a used bike from Good Karma Bikes and had a great experience. Kenneth, Lisa, and crew were friendly and helpful, and they took the time to make sure that I found the right bike for my needs. The bike was in great condition, and I'm very happy with my purchase. Here are some specific examples of what I liked about Good Karma Bikes: -The price was very reasonable. I got a great deal on a quality bike. -The shop was clean and well-organized. It was easy to find what I was looking for. -Purchasing from them is a way to support them providing free bicycle repair and education to low-income individuals and families in the San Jose area. -They showed me how to maintain key parts on my bike, and I feel more confident that I can now do important basic repairs on my own. I would highly recommend Good Karma Bikes to anyone looking for a used bike. They had a wide variety of bikes to choose from, and the staff was knowledgeable and trustworthy. I saw them valuing people having a positive biking experience more than profit, in line with their mission as a non-profit. I'm glad that I found Good Karma Bikes, and I would definitely use them again in the future.
I had a wonderful experience at this place. This was my first stop for bike shopping as they are non-profit and I wanted to check it out. They had a small selection for new and used bike, but I really liked a brand new Univega they had in store at the time. Didn't purchase it as I didn't want to commit without checking a few more options. So after visiting a few more stores in the area, I went back to them to see if they still had the Univega but it was gone (I suppose all good bikes do go fast), so I ended up purchasing a used bike from them, they adjusted it to my liking. Day 1- took it for a ride, rear tire went flat as it went over a stone accidently, so took it back to them within the week of purchase, and guess my surprise spotted the Univega bike I was after in the box waiting to be assembled. Couldn't help myself, so went for it and asked them to assemble it for me. Had no issues trading in my 1 week old used bike. Fantastic experience! I just hope they keep up the good work and continue to provide great quality service in future as well.
To be honest, I had an impression that this bike shop might provide good service. I went there around the end of July. I got a vintage bike for $20, however, they charged me for another $60 to fix the bike. Well, I can totally understand why they charge me, but I felt a bit misguided that they did not say it before I purchased it. After I purchased it, they told me that it was a busy season, and I have to wait for a week (too many bikes to fix). A week went by, no body called me or let me know what's going on. I called them, and they told me that the bike was not ready. After almost 2 weeks, still no one contacted me. So I called, and they told me.....My bike was picked up???!! I was confused and a bit upset. Then I went to the store, and tried to figure it out what just happened. Fortunately, they were able to refund me my money, even though they did not know what went wrong. Well, they did offer me to get a bike for free, but I doubted it. Because I haven't received any call or emails. So, overall, I gave them a 3 out of 5.
I went into this place yesterday and was very impressed by the spacious unique environment. There were several employees working on bikes and the vibe was very easygoing. My reason for going to GK was to drop off my two flat mountain bike tires that I had in hand. One gentleman was working the repair desk and said he would be right with me as he was helping another customer. I was good with that while looking around at the goods they had to offer. It was now a about 10 minutes later and he didn’t look over at me once. This went on for-10 more minutes while the two guys were talking bike lingo with no attention to me whatsoever 20 minutes in. Maybe they could have taken their conversation to the brewery next door after closing time. I’m in search of a new bike and found a few I wanted to inquire about during my unplanned browsing time. All I needed was “I’ll be there in a few”. Oh well, I’ll try the brewery next time Maybe that will be a better experience.
Good Karma Bikes is a not-for-profit organization for at-risk youth, but it is also a top-notch bike shop. The staff care about you and your bike. Their work is very good. They are very busy, which is a testament to how much work they have to do and how popular they are. I took my bike there for brake and bottom-bracket service. It's an unusual bike (single-rider, long-wheelbase, low-handlebar recumbent), but this was zero problem for them; I got the bike back running better than it has for years. Go for the selection and service, stay for an outfit that, on top of being an excellent resource for the bicyclist, does so much civil good for San Jose.
I don't know if my reviews are showing publicly, the owner of the business Jim Gardner, allowed a volunteer to THREATEN ME, and CONTINUE VOLUNTEERING, after the incident, He allowed a convicted felon to threaten me, and he knowingly knew that his volunteer threatened me previously when I had to get him arrested. This is a serious issue, Jim Gardner was mad towards me when I said " Him (The felon) not being here is the solution" Jim Gardner never apologized and I had to escalate the matter to have the person removed from the building. Jim Gardner is a piece of trash that does not understand the safety of people and knowingly endangered my life.
Went there first time and ... great customer service. ..I was greeted right away asked what my interests were and directed me to what i exactly was looking for. .. gave me information on the differences on each product and proceed to show me around the whole place.. not only that showed me the whole complex( the building has a many other spaces that sell coffee , flowers, beer to hand crafted furniture) ... I was blown away. . François went beyond and above customer service.... I run a sales team in my store and this the type of person I strive to have on my team .. I will recommend everybody to good karma bikes ... that's how impressed I am.
Bought a used tandem. GKB helped us try out the different frames to find one that would work for both riders. The bike mechanic updated the tires, pedals, handlebars, grips, seats, freewheel, and shifters. Great attention to detail because he also replaced the cable and cable housing to make sure they were long enough for the new parts. No pressure here to upsell customers. Lovely people who care about cycling and the community. There are a lot of great bikes here of all styles and levels. Great for your kids first bike or a change of pace for yourself. Save some cash and try this place.
A person from the bike shop threatened me and tried following me on my way to my car. The owner knew that his volunteer threatened me before and what he did was extremely not ok for a slightest bit, the owner thought it was a good idea for him to continue working or volunteering there, and he threatened me again, and all he said to the volunteer was “get back to work” Jim is a dishonest man, and i spoke to places he is/was affiliated with about his behavior towards this issue, The owner never apologized for this behavior and continues to ignore me, he is a child man baby
These guys are awesome ! I love my bike Awhile ago I volunteered to help customers & sell bikes I found a cool looking Cruiser & I was out the door to lots of fun riding it! Very positive atmosphere, very helpful & knowledgeable staff ! Owner is a wonderful guy who truly loves this shop & how it helps people in many ways Always many great bikes to choose from with great prices, too All kinds of repairs available, even just flats If you’re not having fun...you’re not doing it right ! Bike riding is fun...so are the Good Karma staff ! Sara
To start the owner of fake non profit org told me that it would cost me over$200 for some rims and cables to make the bike usable, but not welcomed with such bad vibe because of his attitude towards me as if I was talking to much of his time. 2nd he didn't really wanted to help me fix the bike I came in with, told me it would be a waste of time. In another state I went to same type of bike shop real non profit organization and you get kind experts who don't reject you or deny the help you want. Come on now where is the customer service people....
We learned that GKB donates bikes to kids in need. Children can enjoy the simple things in life, like riding bikes. We planned to donate our son's bike after the Viva Calle Event, because he's grown out of it. Instead, at that moment, they were happy to swap his bike for one that suited him. They leveled his seat and made sure he had his bell. GKB has a wonderful family and community vibe. We are very thankful for such a wonderful experience. We will continue to donate our kid's outgrown bike and helping another child enjoy outdoor fun.
So this place is the most legit shop in the Bay! Customer service was on point from Robert at the front desk helping me with gear, to Vera flexing her muscles to adjust my seat, and of course Francois taking the time to walk me through shifting gears and such. Yes, that was a long sentence. I do not apologize. Check out this non-profit that has a great mission as well as a bomb selection. Got my jerseys for only $5 a pop! I only gave it 5 stars because Google is selfish and won’t let me give 10,000.
I am very dissapointed with service. I waited twenty minutes patiently with only one customer before me. At 245 i wanted a simple tire change out nothing too hard . I've had the same stuff done here before and took no more rhan fifteen minutes. The lady took a look at me and then said she did her last bike. I dont lije bei g ignored or profiled. My money is green lije everybody else's. If your brown qnd have tattoos dont expectthis place to live by its name.
Got here to look at bikes and they weren't open when they said they were. They had a few people working in the back but couldn't open the shop because someone else was late but actually there was a woman in the shop counting the cashier box but didn't want to open until the another guy came in. Don't know why the two guys in the back on their iPhone couldn't help out but it must have been more important to be on their iPhones. Bad karma in my book.
I had an outstanding experience here buying a used bike. The salesman was patient and knowledgeable about bikes and the stock. He listened to what I was looking for and found me a perfect fit. It's lightweight and in good condition and will meet my needs. He then took the extra time to help me get a helmet and pump. I was able to test ride the bike and make sure it worked well. Highly recommend for finding a quality used bike!
Didn't have a great experience, Went in there to purchase bike but was brushed off for another person. Seems like they are very short staffed over the weekend. The prices are very competitive, they have a great selection of road bikes, and some hybrid bikes. The bikes looked very well serviced. I enjoyed artistic feel of the place. The best part I think was seeing people kindly donating their bikes. Heart warming. ❤
You want a used bike, this is the place. They know their stock very well, in spite of the constantly changing inventory of donated bikes. They can service a bike in a jiffy, I'm guessing partly because the shop offers classes on bike repair, which keeps everyone up on techniques. Their mission is laudable, and their prices affaudable (Sorry). They also have a variety of accessories to go with your bike. Great shop!
Very polite and respectful people. They are there to help and are accommodating with kids. The shop has a back log and can take some time before you can get a used bike. They take old bikes as donations only and there is no trade in. They are for non profit according to the staff. They sell new bikes and gear also, as expected the variety for that is very limited. Parking can be a challenge in this area.
The mission of Good Karma and ratings about good prices is what brought us in and they met, may I say exceeded, the expectations. They had a large selection of used and new bikes, all at phenomenal prices. The staff were not only knowledgeable, but really friendly and attentive to any questions or needs of their customers. So glad we decided to stop in, we left with two bikes and couldn’t be happier!
Total inconsiderate! I'm 70 years old took a bus and rode my bike Tues in 100° heatwave for a tune up for gears not shifting for work! Website said its open ! I live in Evergreen past Eastridge! When I finally got there they were closed for June teeth! I was livid! I went back to Sun bike ! Thai said they'll make appt Tues and be done someday! Shame on you Good Karma! Never do business again!
Satisfactory service, top notch hospitality, excellent team of builders (bikes), in different age bracket all working with one goal, to serve you best! As a benefactor, I have everything wonderful to say about Good Karma Bike, so I urge you go see for yourself Thank you Lisa, and the team for serving our community and fostering growth; gratitude’s for your kindness.❤️
This is a great place and a great way to give back to the community. I needed more space in my garage and I had two old bikes that were in okay shape, but definitely needed work. I found this place on Google. The staff was super friendly and thankful for my donation. It's great that there are places like this in our city and I'm happy to have been able to support the community.
Awesome place!!! Got a vintage road bike (Schwinn '70, 58cm frame) for $150 incl. tax, student discount (30%) and servicing to make it spanking new. Very friendly staff. This place beats craiglist, and its for charity! Edit: 3/26/15 Dropped down to 4-star. Got renovation in the building and got order mixed up, and slowed the process of servicing prior to handling to 3 weeks!!
I Semi-restord a 60's Schwinn Stardust to match my Stingray for my girlfriend to ride. New tires, polished chrome, new seat, polished paint but needed brakes and a tune up. Took it to Good Karma Dropped it off and was ready to pick up in a couple hours just in time for an afternoon cruise Very friendly, very professional, reasonable prices. DEFINITELY Recommend!
Everyone is super friendly and professional! I've been looking for a good bike shop in San Jose for some time and here it finally is. I had a minor fix and I was impressed by how attentive they were. Even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon, everything was ready super fast and it's much cheaper than other stores in the area. Will definitely come back
I love this bike store! I haven't bought a bike in years, and the staff there were wonderful--friendly and knowledgeable, they answered all my questions and helped me pick a bike that's right for me. Their inventory is also totally affordable, with great return/repair policies, and they help out in the community. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
The staff & volunteers are knowledgeable, friendly and go out of their way to help answer your questions, the shop has bikes for all level of riders, repairs have a quick turn around and supporting GKB you walk away feeling good as you are supporting our community as the mission to transform lives through the medium of bicycles. We rode away with 2 bikes!
Great place. I went there to get my first bike and the people there are super helpful. They tell you all about different bikes and which one would be better. They let me try out some bikes going around the lot. And they are so nice that they told me there will be a sale after a well and I can get the same thing for a bit less later. Love this place.
Great staff who work with you regardless of your experience level. They make great suggestions based on your needs. The bikes are really well priced and in good shape, especially all the mechanical parts that really matter. The 90 day unlimited warranty on the bike is also a great touch. Check them out if you're in need of new wheels!
Loved getting my bike here knowing they're supporting a good cause, plus the bikes are tuned up for you professionally and very reasonably priced. Staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. 20% off accessories when you get a bike here. They even seem to have a good community going, and they have a women's night!
We love Good Karma bikes! The service is amazing. Everyone is very friendly, and they take the time to teach you. The bikes we have purchased here have worked wonderfully. We come here for our repairs now too. They have great prices as well. I wouldn't go anywhere else, and I wouldn't recommend any other bike shop.
Not much help if you are looking for parts. Large troll won’t listen and tells you to look on amazon or other bike shops. Not sure what they sell here but it isn’t service. If you are looking for parts past 1990, don’t go here. Do not recommend. They get tons of donations. Not sure what they do with them.
A wonderful initiative and awesome set of people that support this. I wanted to donate and buy a bike and looked them up on Google. I was able to get both (donate+buy) at the same place. They have a service center attached to their facility. Again super nice experience and highly recommend them.
This is a huge bicycle shop with all kinds of bicycle parts in it but call them first if you want gears like gloves. People here are very friendly. They are currently hiring volunteers to do their non-profit bicycle training You could check their website for more info if you are interested.
I always enjoy coming to G K. Altho this time, no customers, 2 employees behind counter. Told them what I needed, neither got up. Had to figure out adapter, fill tire with air smashed fingers with pump clamp. Left, said "Thank you" no response. That visit sure bummed out my evening.
I had an awesome experience buying a used bike from Good Karma Bikes. Prices are very reasonable (about equal to craigslist). Lots of bikes to try, super friendly and helpful staff. They are a non-profit with a great mission. I woulds highly recommend and will be back for sure.
This place is amazing. I went to donate 2 bikes and some bike parts. The bikes were on the roof of my car (only place I could transport them). Ismael helped me get the bikes off. He was super helpful and funny. This dude is a badass! And Good Karma is great in general.
I think this shop is amazing. Bike prices are very fair. Service department costs can be pricey although the service provided is extremely thorough. Volunteers and employees that staff the shop are knowledgeable, helpful and so very kind. Non-profit for great cause.
That girl in retail is has a bad attitude, like if your having a bad day keep it to yourself, i dont need to hear you, id rather buy a bike from mikes bikes or summit at this point, heres a tip maybe go excercise maybe youll lose the attitude and a few pounds.
Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable! Found a bike I loved here for a very reasonable price. You always know they'll take care of you with their 90 day warranty and free tune up within a year! I always recommend this shop for their service and vision.
Good karma. They give a free bike to a needy person for every one sold. Prices on par with others from Craig's List. Friendly service. Employs people from foster homes who lack practical skills. Bikes well tuned. Many mountain bikes, few road bikes.
Took longer to find parking spot than it was to drop off a couple of bikes. Neat little location. Easy process to donate and to get a tax receipt. They have a fairly large used bike selection covering everything from kids to adults.
Went there for the first time and I was really impressed by the shop and the peoples behind it ! One of the Best bike shop I've ever been, go and see by yourself. Totally deserve 5*, long life to GKB ✌☮️ …
These folks are the best. If you have some nice hardware to donate, like I did, this is the place to go, or if you are looking for some reasonably priced pedal powered transport, this also the place to go.
I just donated some old bike parts. Good karma can really use miscellaneous bike parts you might otherwise throw away. And if you're looking for an older bike that's been refurbished, shop their showroom.
Staff here are experts on bikes! They picked one for me according to my needs and budget, and I'm loving it! Great quality and even better experience :) Definitely recommend this shop to my friends~
Good deals on second-hand bikes. There's a huge variety on the available type of bikes too. The staff member that helped me was super nice, patient, and didn't rush me at all. Amazing business.
Spokes broke on my old cruiser rear wheel. Googled them up, went on down, they grabbed one out of the back, charged me a few bucks and I'm back on the road. Will be donating in the future.
A used bike store that knows what it's talking about! Went in to find a part for my bike, left with a lot more parts than intended! Great prices, good service, good selection of parts.
Great people ,Good prices. My family and I were in the market for bicycles and didn't have enough money for them all. We found some used bikes at a great price. Thank you...Good Karma
Incredible shop with very knowledgeable staff that have done a stellar job adjusting their practices to accommodate the new covid norms. Will be coming back time and time again.
I love this place! I'm a hobbyist and they have so many parts bins for me to dig through... all those little odds and ends for funky old bikes. They have one of everything!
One of the best Non Profit Organizations in the Bay Area. Providing basic transportation for people in need. Great people, great organization, outstanding leadership.
The bikes and products were decent, but the service felt pushy - felt pressure from the staff member to buy a bike and also all the extra accessories to go with it.
Very helpful staff. Good at asking questions that lead you to looking at bikes that best suits your needs. Looking forward to taking a bike maintenance class there.
The friendly staff are well trained and eager to help whenever you shop there. It's easy to see why GKB has been recognized as the best bike shop in San Jose.
Fantastic service and so helpful! Taught my daughter how to use her gears and helped us pick out the perfect bikes. Love this place and their employees!
Good Karma bikes is amazing!! Especially the people. Good parts? Bikes, and service. Ideal for a rider looking to save and meet other enthusiast.
Lisa was wonderful to work with, and we were able to give our 3 yo grandson a 12" bike for his birthday! We're very grateful!! It's perfect!!
Don’t go here.. $300 for used bikes the lady is rude. They don’t give away free bikes to homeless people in need. This is a scam store.
Great bike shop! I like the store concept. Very friendly staff recommended me a great bike for (less than) reasonable price. …
Great nonprofit! Thousands of bikes donated to the community, also a place for people to develop skills, and a fun place to volunteer.
This is the place to go for used bikes (although there were some new bikes in stock). They're so helpful and cognizant of your budget.
Busy place. Went to donate an old bike and bought a reconditioned one. Please consider donating your unused one. They are awesome!
GKB is not just a great bike shop, it's a truly valuable community asset. I am glad to be a a long time customer and patron.
Went here to donate a bike, the experience was quick and straightforward. Love this place, they have such a good program.
Knowledgeable, friendly, great value, and I know I worked at Faber's Cyclerly @S 1st and Martha for 10 years,
Friendly people, wide variety of bikes. Beware the 20-50% restocking fee if you need to return the bike
Had a great experience buying used wheels for my kids bike. Good deal, friendly staff, great service.
Wonderful service. Great prices. Do buy your bicycles from here, and support this great initiative.
Friendly staff, clean shop and retail side looking forward to picking up my bike after the repairs
Got my brother a very nice used bike for a fraction of the MSRP.
Great people! Please support them whenever you can.
Lisa is a guardian angel running a bike shop.
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff!
