Rui Barbosa (jurist, politician, lawyer and writer), lived in this house from 1895 to 1923, the year of his death. In 1930, it became a House Museum and in 1966 it was founded. Beautiful house, in the neighborhood of Botafogo, has a beautiful garden and in the garage (at the back of Donjrdim) there is a Benz car, with motor traction and three animal traction cars, which belonged to Rui Barbosa. Ideal place for a walk with the family or even walking through its beautiful garden. The monitors and even the watchmen know the whole story of Rui Barbosa and his family very well. Visits to the gardens are daily. However, the visit to the house takes place in a monitored manner, without prior scheduling. Easy location, very close to the subway. Every Carioca or visitor could not miss the opportunity to visit this place.

It’s very beautiful and very family friendly. I couldn’t visit the house itself, only the gardens, because of sanitary restrictions (I visited in October/2021). However, it was worth the visit. I can’t wait to visit the house. My only remark is that the foundation could put signs near the trees to identify them, their common names, scientific names, place of origin, etc. We are only able to know some of them, and it’s not easy, since the names are displayed in the few maps available.
