Today I was racially profiled and publicly embarrassed by Terry Friedlander the assistant manager. I walked in to the store to buy a pad lock for my bike lock. I had with me my bike bag with the bike lock in it. I asked the cashier at the front desk to show me where the pad locks were so I could see which one would fit. He showed me and then I took my lock out of my bag to match it with the pad lock. Once I found one that would fit I put my lock back in my bag and kept the pad lock in my hand. Then Terry approaches me and ask me if I needed help. I said no thank you I found one that fits. He then tells me let me see what you put in your bag. I was caught off guard and felt very disrespected. I told him I didn’t put anything in my bag I was just seeing if the pad lock would fit my bike lock. He said let me see what you put in my bag. Mind you there are customer witnessing the entire thing. I opened my bag and showed him my lock. If that wasn’t enough he grabbed my bag to search it himself finding nothing but what I told him he would find. Instead of offering an apology he blamed me for the entire thing saying I shouldn’t have brought my bag in the store. Wow. I would have been more understanding if he had apologized for his wrongful assumption or at least made me feel like a customer after the fact but instead he criminalized me and embarrassed me in front of the entire store. I will never shop there again and I would recommend anyone of color so the same.
stopped by for window glass. I gave him the dimensions of the actual window and inquired about how much smaller the actual pane should be. (I surmised from internet searches churches that they should be1/8 inch smaller than the frame) but wanted a professional opinion. he stated they generally cut the pane 1/16" smaller. this did not agree with my searches on the internet but decided that he, being a professional should know. so I instructed him to cut the pane 1/16 inch smaller than the dimensions I gave him. I instructed him to write the dimensions on each pain of glass. Trusting that the professional did his job correctly I brought the window glass home. wanting to be sure the glasses fit correctly I measured them myself. I found them to be exactly or a little bit larger than the dimensionsI gave him, not 1/16" smaller as we had discussed. bottom line is they could not supply me with glass to fit my sashes. being so upset at the unprofessional job I ended up asking for my money back and to speak with her boss. She stated he was not there but he would be there in the morning and I could call and talk to him then.
Orifinally I had rated 4/5 but I have to update...Five stars for Margie! I can only begin to describe what an absolute delight she is! As someone who works in hospitality and guest service management, I can confidently say she is someone that any manager would want on their team. And as if being a happy and helpful cashier wasn't enough, I overheard her not only offer to help new shoppers locate merchandise in the store, but she also was attempting to cross-sell truely helpful merchandise as folks were getting ready to check-out. SOMEONE GET THIS GAL A RAISE! Thats a hard skill to teach and Margie is a pro. And on top of all that she knows the perks of the Ace rewards program and was a fantastic proponent of this loyalty program with out it ever feeling like she was reading a script or forcing people to enroll because she was required to meet quota. She spoke so conversationally. Keep it up Margie! You have one customer who will be back for sure.
I moved into the neighborhood a year ago, and started checking out the local shops. I had avoided this location after finding someone I knew (and didn't care for) working there, about 5 years prior. But since this was now the local neighborhood shop, I decided to give it another shot. So glad I did! From gardening, to any random household project, they carried 99% of what I needed, and in the rare case didn't have something, we're able to suggest an alternative place to get it. Their staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They also seem to always be genuinely happy when I come in, which I take to mean that the store is a good place to work, an important part of whether I will shop somewhere. The store is organized and clean as well. I highly recommend this location!!
The people working here were super friendly and helpful. We had to rent a steam cleaner for our mattress and carpets and it was a very simple process. My husband ordered it and I dropped it off. They thanked me for cleaning it out so nice [which was nice to hear, because I only kind of rinsed it out]. Looking forward to our next cleaning or when we finally finish moving into our apartment and need lightbulbs... Not a Con for me, but it could be for your: My husband and roommate both were enticed by the sunglasses for 3.99$, so in the span of 24 hours, 6 new pairs of sunglasses were strewn about the house. That was in character for both of them. I also am addicted to sunglasses; be warned, they're pretty neat designs too.
I went in yesterday and bought a toilet seat. I specifically mentioned to the cashier that I wasn't certain if I had the right size, could I please have a receipt? Cashier says, sure no problem. I did not have the right size, but when I brought it back in (in the packaging, the day following the sale, with the receipt) a different cashier said that it was company policy not to accept returns on toilet seats, forcing me to buy a second toilet seat and leaving me with a too-big seat that I'll never be able to use. If it's company policy not to accept returns, it should also be company policy to inform the customer of that when they specifically mention they might need to exchange it.
After being basically ignored at a different locally owned paint store, we went to This store as it was listed as a store that carried the paint we were searching for (Benjamin Moore). However we found out that they no longer carried it....and much to our surprise, an employee there actually wrote down a few other places with address AND phone numbers of stores that she knew carried it, but nicely suggested we call there first just to check. WOW, she certainly did not HAVE to do that and just made it seem like she really cared about us finding what we were looking for. THAT is the complete definition of superb customer service. THANK YOU!!
Needed duplicate car key. Called everywhere; quoted 100-200bucks. One guy even went on a long schpiel to me saying you’re not going to find anyplace that’ll do it for cheaper than a hundred. Called Ace. Asked if I needed it to just open a door or start the ignition too. Warned me it’s a hit or miss meaning it may not work. Regardless, I just needed it to be able to open my door in case someone left the car key inside the car. Quoted ten bucks. I’m in and out five minutes tops. Cost me only five bucks and it worked. Thanks to the knowledgeable lady on car keys there. Saved me hundreds of dollars.
I LOVE Frattallone's. All the staff are so beyond helpful in every department, plumbing inssue? They can help problem solve. Looking for gardening/landscaping tools and flowers, paint, or bits for a drill set? They are the place to go, so many times I've need more paint or to mix up old paint, they get it done efficiently.and quickly. All staff will walk you over to any item you need and talk through any questions and make sure you're buying the correct item. The staff is so friendly and kind and love going there for all hardware/repair needs!
Nothing beats the smaller hardware stores like this when you have a particular project you are working on. I had some little mods to do to my vehicle, to put it simply, if I had gone into home dpot, or similar, I would have walked around for 30 minutes, had no one help me, and probably left with something I didn't even come in to buy! lol However at Ace here, I came in, was greeted, and directed to exactly what I needed. In and out, with exactly what I needed in maybe 15 minutes. Yep, that's five star service. Thank you!
This place seriously has some of the best customer service-minded team members of just about any business. I cannot think of a single time I've walked in and not had somebody ask if they can help me. Yet, they also understand that when a customer says that they don't need help, it's okay to walk away instead of being pushy like some places. I don't know what it is about this particular location, but it is clearly managed well and run by a team of employees who put care into their work.
Worst experience i have had at an Ace Hardware. I came in 30 minutes before close - and just felt pushed out of the store. I asked to get a piece of plexiglass cut that I could like it was a chore, and then the glass came out with no plastic protective coating on it and it was already scratched up it was obviously pulled from a scrap pile. They were upset that I asked for it to come with the plastic coating on it. Did not feel like the ace hardware I remember.
Girlfriend went in to have a key made. Had to visit not once, not twice, but three times. Employees tried blaming her (tried the first two keys myself), and complicated the process beyond measure. Handful of the male employees have poor attitudes that they wouldn't display with a man present. Keep in mind if women in your life are visiting alone, or are a woman visiting solo.
great service at very reasonable price. my snow blower couldn't start when the big storm dumped 8" snow. store manager Angela did everything to help me diagnose and try to get it to work, before taking it in for repair. and their repair work is FAST and very reasonably priced. they didn't try to take advantage of the situation. that's my hardware store from now on.
By far the most helpful and least invasive staff of any hardware store in town. Cashier asked me what I was working on. I said stained glass. The person behind me in line chatted with me outside as a 30 year stained glass artist and offered guidance should I so choose. This is why buying local is amazing. It really builds community.
Came looking for lumber, but I found gold. The sales associate who assisted me provided me with a cost saving alternative to my initial needs. When I had offered to pay extra she refused and thanked me for helping keep her shop clean. I absolutely love the fact that she helped me find a better solution to my needs. Recommend 10/10
Always friendly and knowledgeable service to be found here! They have such a great selection of all the typical items you’d expect to find at your local hardware store. I’ve always been able to trust their advice and they don’t try to over-sell you on something you don’t need. Love to browse the lawn and garden section the most.
You just can't beat excellent customer service, rare these days. Once I find this, aaaa!aaa that's where I shop ♀️ I appreciate the kindness and love being able to enjoy myself shopping.. haha any kind of shopping!! Oh and the 2 happiest girls walking home with their new pool!! We enjoy the little things ♡ Thank you:)
Great fashion finds designer new and vintage pieces...clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry! I have been shopping here for years! My daughter loves Burberry, so for her birthday I got her all BB pieces: a beautiful classic black trench coat, a beautiful vintage London collection dress shirt and a beautiful handbag!!
Needed paint chip matching services and went here as I’ve been a loyal customer at this location for a number of years. I got excellent service from Dana and was super impressed with the results. This store is well staffed, well stocked and has meet my needs for a number of different projects. Thanks so much!!
All Ace Hardware's are awesome, but I received the most exceptional service at this location today that I had to leave a review. The sales associate lead me to the three items that I was shopping for and was extremely helpful in making decisions. He even offered to help carry everything! So so impressed.
The store has a nice layout in the employees are very nice. Everyone greets you and goes out of the way to help. I was 5 cents short on an item and the cashier pitched in from leftover change from another sale. Would definitely recommend this store and I hope it stays in the community for years to come.
Staff always makes me feel like my questions are valid. It’s really common to have someone man-plain stuff to you but this establishment truly has kind/understanding employees. Keys are made right, easily helped to the section you need, wide variety, convenient location. They’ll always have my business
I had a card error and the cashier, was obviously new, was being super nice and trying to help me and then some lady who I assume is a supervisor came over all rude talking about “we’re not a bank we can’t do nothing” when I hadn’t even asked for anything I was just trying to figure out what happened
Great neighborhood hardware store. Great selection of "stuff" and equally impressive is the level of service. They are old school hardware store and it so beats making a trip to the big box stores (unless you need a truckload of stuff). I have purchased everything from light bulbs to a snowblower.
I went in to get a couple of things. The staff was very helpful by showing me where to find what I was looking for and with suggestions for the best kind of epoxy for the project I was working on. I would definitely recommend them for your hardware needs if you live in the uptown or midtown area.
This was single-handedly the best experience I've ever had at a hardware shop, ever. The employees were each so kind and genuinely enjoyed helping me find what I needed (and I am completely clueless.) Secretly hope more things in my house break so I can come here to fix them. Kidding only mostly.
Great store and I hear great things, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Every place has an off day. I spent 20 minutes waiting for help to find something. The person at the register called for someone a few times. No one came. I ended up trusting myself and bought the wrong thing.
I live this hardware store! 9 times out of 10 there’s someone waiting for you just inside the front door offering to bring you to anything you need. I spend 5 minutes inside on quick trips instead of 30 or more at a big box store and I’m back at the project that much faster.
This is a great local hardware store with a bit of everything one might need. I stop here frequently for those unexpected necessities during projects that I just don't want to go to a large store for. Always well stocked. Always helpful staff. A great store all around.
great place to go for what ever you need! I love that there is a hardware store close to home that isnt a big box store. A real plus for apartment dwellers who need to keep it clean and in good shape. They also have storage items and raw materials to make anything!
1st, This area needed a hardware store bad. 2nd, they seem to often have everything I need and the staff has always been helpful. 3rd, Don't let the picture of the Checker's Auto Parts fool ya, that is a picture from before ACE moved into that location.
Had a wonderful shopping experience. One associate helped me find what I needed and another checked me out with a smile and some lovely conversation. I was a little worried about this errand as I am not the most handy fellow but it was really so easy.
Best customer service from a hardware store. I really like this place because not only are they willing to show you where things are, they will explain the different products, applications, and even brainstorm with you for how to solve problems.
I am a Hardware Store FANATIC !! LOL !! I could spend hours here ! The staff is so helpful. Prices are very fair !! It is my GO TO store at least a couple times a week. They always have what I want....and they send me coupons !! Thanks Ace !!!!
Fantastic service, essential for many Uptown residents to have access to a handy shop where you can ask questions and will find at least a few options. Will continue to use this shop as my go-to shop for projects around the house. Shop local.
Each Ace store has its own owners but they are all high quality, went to this tonight because they were open an hour later on Sunday until 6 and we needed for wood for a bonfire tonight, got some on sale Dahlia bulbs while we were there too
Good selection of stuff in the small space they have for a hardware store. Employees will ask you if you need help if you’re into that. Have a bunch of plants out in the summer which makes Hennepin look nice which I appreciate. Cool store
helpful staff, extremely valuable neighborhood joint for virtually any home goods. limited selection is the only drawback but that is hardly worth complaining about given the convenience, professionalism of the staff, and the good prices.
We didn't find the exact bolt we needed, but our Ace salesperson went out of his way 2 look 4 it. Excellent customer service, and we were greeted by everyone b4 he helped with the bolt search. Lovely experience, would highly recommend!
I've lived in this neighborhood for 3 decades and I LOVED this store when it was owned by Ace. You could shop online and SEE if they have the items you want in stock. No more. Now it is a local chain who is too lazy to put their
It's so nice to know that you can get almost anything you need to finish your project from a store that is in your neighborhood. I felt very safe shopping there with covid protocols in place. The owner is friendly and helpful.
One of the best hardware stores in the area, and at the most convenient location for uptown too! Wide variety, incredibly prompt and helpful staff, this is definitely my stop of choice when I need to stock up or fix something.
Had a key made and picked up a few things. Staff were a little confused about my key so they got 3 different people. Other than the wait service was friendly and the store was convenient especially since it's in the city.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Today Angela found us a wood handled broom. She was wearing jeans patched with bunnies which was a plus. Knowledgeable and approachable. The hardware store had everything we needed.
Just had an above and beyond experience with Mathew, he is great! Give him a raise! He helped me detach a stuck shower head from the kindness in his heart and just gave excellent customer service! Thank you.
Its a great neighborhood hardware store.Sure your gonna spend a little more than you might want, but its for the convieniance instead of going to a big box store like Builders square, Menards ECT.
Very helpful, reasonable prices, and a surprisingly wide selection of items. Get those prong adapters, light bulbs, screws, paint rollers, and underrated candies from the friendly place.
Best HELPful staff ever! Made ME feel at home. THEY ARE such a good business. I had fun IN THE wine section, gotta love ITALIAN wine!:) And there wasn't a MOB at every checkout lane.
A great spot to stop in and pick up that one thing you forgot for your project. Decent prices, friendly and helpful staff, and a good rewards program all keep me a loyal customer.
Great and attentive service from the staff, amazing selection of anything you could possibly want from a hardware store and significantly less evil than their big box competitors!
Hardware stores are the way to go . Support the local guys. Home depot and menards have their good points too, but id rather go to a locally owned hardware store any day
We love Frattallone's. The staff is always nice and helpful and we can easily find everything we need without wandering through tons of aisles. Great neighborhood store!
Very friendly and helpful staff, as soon as you enter you will be offered help if you need it. Prices are reasonable. DOG FRIENDLY! They will give your dog a treat too!
I like this hardware store. It's very close to home, is not huge, it has always had what i need, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. You can't beat that for value!
The most helpful place you can go. And don’t think you won’t find what you need. I’ve often gone here because the big orange and big blue stores don’t have it.
While not as much selection as a big-box hardware store, they always seem to have what you need. Staff has always been friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Great establishment, friendly attentive staff. Had an easy time picking up mulch and pea gravel. They assisted loading the 8 bags into the back of my car.
I was surprised by the variety of items sold here. Also I experienced top notch and knowledgeable customer service to the max! Very much appreciated :)
I told him no break,,,,well everythinng broke including the red laser dawg toi, poor Archibald the dead buldog found at the bottom of the Keenan's pool
Extremely helpful Angela (same name lol) was friendly and quick to help me solve my radiator problem by showing me the right part to fix it thank you!
Spencer was alot of help with my electrical issues. Just moved to south mpls and have never been to an ace with such helpful staff. Keep it up guys!
The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. I've never had a bad experience, or had a problem that they can't solve. A+ shop from top to bottom.
Staff have always been exceptionally kind and informative. I have bought and returned many items here and they are always very diligent and patient.
This seems to be a location with a large space for inventory with a lot of garden stuff too. Good location. Friendly helpful staff as usual for Ace.
Super awesome! Staff has great customer service and knowledgeable, reminds me of school small town hardware stores I'm used to, but here in uptown.
They have so much stuff, it borders on being a muggle Room of Requirement! And of course, the employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
You guys are the best. Everytime I have come in (Which is a lot since I work so close) you guys know exactly what I need. Thank you so much.
Henry was such a delight! The register was busy, he ran out of receipt paper and the phone was ringing but he kept it all running smoothly!
Staff are friendly and present, but not overbearing. If you bring your dog, they might give a dog treat at checkout which is super cute.
Great neighborhood hardware store. Very helpful staff. Prices higher than big box stores, but my goto place when I need something quick.
The employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. They know what they have in stock and they help you fund what you need very quickly.
The Nicollet store is much better stocked, laid out, staffed, and generally a better experience for a professional handyman like me
Killer service and helped me out with the very hard, specific request of duplicating a broken key. Friendly knowledgeable staff.
Always helpful and i can get the right amount of what i need. Dog friendly with great plant selection in the spring and summer.
Never been to a hardware store (or really any store) with such a knowledgeable and helpful staff! Would highly recommend.
Attention given to me instantly as needed by an owner / associate so I got my new padlock and extra keys fairly quick.
Nice people and a whole lot easier to navigate than Home Depot. Of course fewer choices but they had what I needed.
Good location and good customer service. Is on the smaller side. Nothing too different from a hardware store.
Helpful staff, broad range of products. Great that I didn’t have to leave the city for a hardware store.
Bought a small vacuum. Checked prices on Amazon and Target. It was 15$ cheaper at Ace. Friendly staff!
Great, individual service and an enormous selection of tools and materials. Immediate key-making, too.
Customer service here has been consistently wonderful. Very genuinely nice and helpful people. Thanks
Not very impressed the last few times especially with their window cranks they only carry one brand
Extremely friendly staff and a great product selection. I would recommend Frattallone's to anyone!
Aaron was cool af! Went above and beyond for a first time customer!!! Will absolutley return
It’s always a quick and easy in and out. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Great neighborhood hardware store with a wide variety of tools, supplies, and surprises...
Great service, and they have everything -- amazing how much they can pack into the place.
Super helpful staff and ideal to have lot parking off Hennepin. Good neighborhood choice.
Staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. This is now my go-to hardware store.
Such friendly staff that work there and always willing to go the extra mile for anyone.
They are amazing! They always have everything that I need, and very helpful staff.
Personal service bar none you got a DIY household problem just ask these guys...
Everything you would expect from a city Ace Hardware. Staff is nice and helpful.
Super nice guy at the counter. Prices weren't bad either for the low end stuff.
Just about everything you need. The folks there are very friendly and helpful.
These folks are just the best. Always so helpful and right in my neighborhood.
Reasonable prices, informed POLITE staff, but most importantly, quality merch.
Always find what I'm looking for and more, very fun hardware store to shop in
