What impresses me about First Covenant Church is its name. It's name is not First Contract Church. It's not, "We will do our part as long as you do your part." What I see and cherish is truly a covenant. "We promise to do our part even if you do not do your part." What I hear is, "We love you; and there is nothing you can do about it; you are easy to love . . . even when you are not so easy to love." What I feel is belonging and connectedness to a creative faith community that unleashes the laity to serve the greater Portland area. I like it here.

Such a lovely church! Not a building, but a people, a community, who earnestly seek to know God, love God and humbly walk with God and each other while deepening their faith (in practice and in word). They are intentional about loving and serving the community around them. It is a place to feel known and loved as you are. A place to receive a challenging, honest and gracious word. A place where I can bring my kids without the fear of having them get lost in a crowd. First Covenant is something special, folks!

I started attending First Covenant Church for the first time last summer and it quickly became "home." It's a safe and welcoming place to gather and learn about God. The teaching is not only insightful, but the pastors truly show the beauty and love of God. The congregation and staff are made up of the sweetest people. It immediately felt like my community. I truly have never felt that from a church before and it was so genuine. I couldn't recommend this church more -- I want everyone I know to come here!

My family of four found First Cov during our first month living in Portland. We never looked at other churches because we immediately felt welcomed and like we could belong in this open, accepting, intimate group of Portlanders. Almost two years later, this is our family here. We recommend this church to everyone who values spiritual community, friendship, open hearts and minds, and Christians who want to deepen and widen their faith.

We so appreciate establishing First Covenant Church as our church home when we moved to the Portland area. They are a faith community that cares deeply for social justice issues that plague our cities, and are involved in practical ways to meet the needs of the unhoused and refugees. They stand with those who are victims of racism. I know you will find a warm welcome, as we did, if you choose to visit First Covenant Church.

First Covenant Church is a warm and inviting place. People are welcoming and genuinely interested in one another. Children have their classes, but also participate in services, in worship and in communion. Sermons are expressive of the truth of the gospel in profound ways. As they say, “Rooted and grounded in love, we seek to grow together into the fullness of Jesus.”

First Covenant is a gem, and a gift to my family. We have found a loving and welcoming community that is affirming and non judgmental. if you are considering checking out church for the first time, or if you are looking for a new church, i cannot recommend First Covenant enough. be prepared to be warmly welcomed, and to be accepted just as you are.

First Covenant Church is a community that I feel strives to practice honesty with God and others. The teaching is inspiring, and I feel continually led to deepen my knowledge of God, his love for me and for those around me.

We’ve come a long way… from the first church in or denomination to be settled in the Pacific Northwest to a family of committed followers learning to walk the walk. It’s been a road. The company is good.

I love this body of believers! It has been my church home since the first week I arrived in Portland 8/3/2006. Come and find love, warmth and the true love of Christ!

Loving people and pastoral staff. Rooted in the word of God, accepting and celebrating our differences and commonalities. Highly recommend First Covenant Church.
