Haven't been here for a while from the old owners who owned it for years sold the business, although we tried it on a week night about 8pm and only ordered a piece of battered flake and pop dog. Very disappointed in the service as there was only 2 people in the shop including myself and it took close to 20mins to cook the above items. No apology nothing for the length of waiting. The fish was not fresh, over priced, it tasted old as the lady who cooked the fish did it for so long the batter was burnt as well. Will not return to the shop again. So sad!! Also prices have tripled with most items. If your going to put prices up make sure your food and service is great! Thanks for your review re owner. But definitely YES, it was your shop I went too and didn't get it wrong with another. Unfortunately we will not return.

The food, service and prices here are very good in general, but there are a couple of areas where they shoot themselves in the foot. For example, their pizzas are great, but they insist on using that horrible ham that SO MANY pizza places use, which spoils the experience. Their pizzas would be superb if it wasn't for that. I'd actually be willing to pay more for a pizza if quality ham was used. Secondly, I tried a hot dog with cheese & sauce, but the sesame seed style roll went super-soggy by the time I got home, coupled with that plasticky cheese that reminded me of Kraft singles. Again, I'd be willing to pay more if they just changed some of the ingredients. The fish, chips, chicken and sausage packs etc. are all top notch though.

The quality of the food you will find here, is in my opinion, the best anywhere. In fact everything is the best, the food and the staff. The prices are good and I get my food delivered 3.5 Km. I just had a chicken hot pack and it was the juiciest bird ever and the gravy was spectacular. Love this place and I am just a customer with no other connection. Wait till you see the range of food in this bright shop, you may have trouble trying to decide. Well done Ethelton!

Extremely disappointed. This venue is under new management with new staff, they were unnecessarily rude and aggressive towards us during our initial encounter, even having your name called by this person makes you cringe and wonder about the quality of the food. My partner hasn’t eaten because they put my AB sauces (tomato, bbq, garlic) entirely over her meal, which was ironic because I found my AB to be quite dry. The chips were undercooked. The entire experience was horrible. We were regulars at Ethelton Takeaway before the change of management, it’s sad to see the end of the long term (years) relationship that we had.

I used to go to this shop when the previous owners were there and never had an issue. Food was great. So tonight I decided to order pizza for my family. I ordered 5 pizza's. Very disappointed. Firstly it took and hour and 15mins to get our order. All the pizza's were burnt on top. I ordered a chicken pizza which was so burnt you couldn't even see the chicken on it plus it was very spicy that I couldn't eat it. Also the vegetarian had a spicy taste to it as well. Not happy as the kids were hanging out for their food. I feel it ruined our dinner. Unfortunately I will not be a return customer.

Haven't eaten hear for a couple of years because I was not happy with the food or service, but noticed today it was under new management, so I gave it a go. The owners and staff were very friendly, the environment was very clean, the salads were all Freshly made and the fish and chips I ordered was very tasty, cooked in fresh oil with a crispy batter, and the tartare sauce was home-made. Good menu selection and generous servings. Will definitely be back. I highly recommend eating here.

OMG!! I've been trying to find a chip shop with a burger w/lot like they used to make in 90's. I have finally found a place. Ethelton Take away has the Best chip shop burger w/lot in all of Port Adelaide and surrounding suburbs. Was delicious. patty was great. Big in size. fresh ingredients. Can't wait to eat another one. Chicken snitzel hot pack was good aswell.

Keeping my star rating in the middle for now as as we realise by the sign that new people have taken over. It was a usual bust Friday night but staff seemed under pressure and our fish n chips were not crispy. Have been loyal customers for quite a while here and hope that in time the new guys get it right. We would rather wait a little longer and have the crispness of good fish n chips. Literally just got a garlic bread tonight to go with my pea soup. But it was cooked to perfection. Pizza guy always gets my garlic bread right. What a legend. The owners are just the best people with great customer service. The treat their regulars well so they come back.

Honestly pizza was spectacular. 2 nights in a row since reopening. Thank goodness original pizza guy is back. He has magic hands I swear. The fish and chips looks like what you would see in a professional photo and tastes just as it looks ; fantastic ! The attention to detail is refreshing to see , so much so I drive past several other places that offer the same fare . Truly a top shelf establishment . A massive variety of food on the menu , surely something to satisfy even the fussiest eaters . Cant recommend this establishment enough , shame its only possible to give it five stars .

Pizza was delicious, highly recommend ⚠️WARNING⚠️: The family size pizzas are incorrectly labelled on the menu as 16" when they are in fact 14" (even the box says 15", you couldn't fit a 16" in there if you tried). If you want the best value for money, get the correctly labelled 18" party size instead.

The only reason I’m not giving 4 stars is that I haven’t tried anything other than the fish and chips. This place is a total hidden gem (although not so hidden if you’re a local!) The chips are consistently top notch. I’ve never had a bad meal from here, well priced and customer service is excellent! I’d drive past “that” place on Semaphore Rd any day to get get my fish and chips from here!

I have been getting takeaway here for years, now they have new management and everything is slightly better than it was before, and before was awesome, keep up the good work guys

We’re regular customers and have always been impressed with the quality of the food . Tonight we ordered a couple of steak sandwiches and a small chips. They were all inedible with the sandwich’s really soggy and meat tough as a boot. Chips were awful too. Sodden with oil and undercooked. Will be very reluctant to return.

So disappointed with food order. Chips overcooked and a piece of fish undercooked. Batter looked like the fat was too hot and fish was dripping with fat when you bit into it. Banana fritters were soggy although they tasted nice. Saving grace was the coleslaw. No other customers in the store apart from one person picking up a food order. Overall the meal was unappealing.

Friendly and welcoming. Good old-fashioned customer service. Food is great, generous serves. They cover all the bases which makes them our go to takeaway store, especially if we have a crowd to feed. If there's a problem they will go above and beyond to fix it. But there's rarely a problem! Highly recommend

Experience was nothing like everyone elses with new owners. Killed the whiting and barramundi, bones and scales galore with the whiting, I'm not talking a little normal amount, I mean a lot. It was so over cooked it wasn't even worth peeling all the bones out in the end. Boys said burgers were alright but weren't brag worthy. Chips decent but thats about it.

Although this long established and greatest fish n chip shop of the area has a policy of being closed every non public holiday Monday, it has always stood the test of time and 'under new management' change of hands. The quality of food and always friendly service from great people truelly is 2nd to none...I highly recommend to all fish n chip shop lovers.

The owners are lovely. We came in as a group of six ordering yiros, yiros pizza, chicken burger, pizza, chips, dinner pack We waited 20 minutes which we thought was very reasonable for what we ordered. They have everything. Our order was handled really well. Would go back at our next beach visit.

We were regular customers of this business, however after the schnitzel meal that l purchased last evening, l will not be back again. The chips were soggy, no chicken salt as requested and the meal looked as though it had been thrown into the container. Added to this was the grumpy attitude of the staff who clearly are struggling with the business.

Tried Ethelton takeaway for the first time in a couple of years. Butterfish was cooked perfectly, chips a tad underdone but still good and potato fritters (cakes) perfect. Well done.

The food is now actually the best in my fifteen years of being here. Current owners are the fourth in this long interval. Broad range, fresh salads every day, value family pack options, clean premises, excellent friendly service and top quality! Locals report that this is the best fish and chips shop in or near the Semaphore-Port Adelaide area

Under new ownership very nice fish&chip packs seafood packs otherwise parking area not to big but at least there are carparks available. I highly recommend this place for a feed at affordable prices Happy Kiwi

Got 2 pizzas tonight..I always ask for extra thin base and usually get it....but tonight the pizza chef couldn't be bothered and they were way undercooked..have to re cook them in the toaster oven...won't go back ever again..pizza patrol at Blair athol always do the base extra thin so I'll stick with them from now on.

Best steak sandwich with the lot anywhere. It even had pineapple in it. Where else do you get a steak sanger more than 2” thick with tender steak... and it is actually cut in half right thru so half of it doesn’t wind up in the car. Cooked and assembled by a lovely young lady. I will definitely be back. Top marks!

Not sure what's happened to your pizzas. We got 2 pizzas and they tasted horrible, the little bit I tried left a horrible taste in my mouth. Rest went in the bin. Definitely changed something, as few years back they were the best in the area. Won't be returning.

This place is my absolute favourite local take away shop! The staff are amazing! They are always so nice and friendly and happy to help in any way they can! They are amazing at catering for my gluten free diet, and their pizzas are some of the best gluten free pizzas I have found! Highly recommend!!!

While not a regular buyer of take-away My go to place is Ethelton Takeaway. I was very disappointed to say the least. There was so much batter on my fish it was doughy in the middle and several bones were found. My chips were not crisp but very soggy. I am not sure if I will return.

Found this place by accident and I'm so glad I did! Enormous range of fresh, tasty food, prepared by cheerful, friendly staff in amazingly clean premises. They're close enough to the beach for the fish n chips to still be too hot to eat after a few minutes drive.

We are very dissapointed, we have been going there for years and now new owners have taken over the food is over cooked, my partners hamburger was burnt the dim sims were burnt, and my chips were over cooked, will not be going back there.

Literally putrid. Wouldn't not order unless his wife is the one cooking. No customers and still waited over 30 minutes for one half burnt pizza and soggy chips. Slowest man I have ever witnessed working in a takeaway shop. Embarrassing.

Favourite chicken n chip place ever! Chips and fish were fresh and crunchy schnitzel pack with gravy was delicious best gravy by far! $4 for min chips and 100% worth it. Store is clean and tidy and you can even order a pizza!

After changing management several times, thought I would give the local shop another go. Don't bother! dismal service, long waits,wrong orders, painful to watch. What a shame the family that ran it for years were excellent.

Surprisingly cheap price but FANTASTIC pizza. Cost less than pizza Hut but much better quality and quantity of toppings. Next I will try some chips or fish now I know the pizza is truly awesome. Totally recommend to all.

One of the best and freshest take away shops in Adelaide, best customers service, I knew johns food was going to be good ,especially the way they present there salads and shop.loved the steak sandwich.
