Dholera international airport project site

Dholera International Airport is a greenfield airport project in Gujarat, which will serve the first smart city of India, Dholera. It will be built near Navagam in the Dholera taluka of Ahmedabad district. The project site is spread over 1,426 hectares (14.26 km²), which is about 80 kilometres from Ahmedabad and around 20 kilometres from Dholera. The airport would serve the logistics requirements and people of the Dholera SIR, which is planned as a huge industrial township in the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project (DMIC). The airport's first phase is expected to be commissioned by 2025, while the second phase is expected to be completed by before 2030. In 2021, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) released a ₹ 987 crore (US $ 129 million) tender for Phase 1 of airport project. The airport will be built at a total cost of ₹ 1,378 crore (US $ 180 million). The airport will have a 3,200 metre long runway suitable for 4E category aircraft. The airport is expected to cater to not only DSIR and its hinterland, but also to traffic overflow from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The Government of Gujarat has allocated 1,427 hectares of land for the project and 75 hectares of government land, has been allocated for commercial development. In Phase 2, the airport will have two parallel runways, with the second runway having a length of 4,000 m, suitable for large widebody aircrafts like the Airbus A380 and two terminals (one having 3 and 2 sub-terminals). In its first phase, the airport will serve over 1.5 million passengers per annum, and its second phase, it will increase to over 50 million passengers per annum, becoming Gujarat's largest airport and one of the busiest airports in India.

I recently visited the Dholera International Airport site and observed that it remains largely undeveloped. The landscape is currently a barren ground with minimal activity—only a few trucks and workers were visible, engaging in what seemed to be preliminary tasks. In the distance, temporary office-like structures hinted at the early stages of planning. Despite the initial groundwork, it appears that the commencement of full-scale construction might be a prolonged process. The challenging aspect is the location of the land in the wetland of the Bay of Khambhat, indicating potential difficulties in the construction process. Given these circumstances, it suggests that considerable time and effort may be required before substantial progress is achieved at the Dholera International Airport site.

Flop Project of Gujarat. Totally Waste of Thousands of Crore. Dholera Smart city is already a Flop project. Instead of Leveraging full potential of Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot, this foolish Govt. of Gujarat is going mad to waste Thousands of Crore to erect a 945 sqkm Smart city. Firstly, Govt. of Gujarat need to bring Vadodara & Surat city on par with Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore. Then jump on to Fantasy of Dholera City.

I visited Dholera Smart City, 90 KM from Ahmedabad Airport. Where I saw Dholera International Airport, ABCD Building, Industrial Area . I can say it will be a financial City in the future. Even our PM Narendra Modi ji compare Dholera Smart city to Shanghai ( China ) and Delhi. …

It will be industrial hub, Worthy to invest there now. 1) Ahmedabad -Dholera Expressway project is under construction 2) Ahmedabad - Dholera Railway project is under construction 3) International Airport construction is Started. So it will be Hub for Business.

It is waste of thousands of taxpayers money. People may live there after 200 years in case of Apocalypse. The plots are being sold as buy on get one free. After few days it will be “buy 1 plot get 3 free”.

Dholera International Airport will be a boon to the state of Gujarat. Best chance to invest in the surroundings..
