This review comes very late as I've had my beautiful rings for over a year now, and kept intending to leave a review but kept forgetting, but I just wanted to say I love them as much as ever and still find myself staring at it in awe sometimes! I originally fell in love with a ring design I found online that was no longer made, and didn't find anything else (in stores or online) that I liked nearly as much, so me and my now-husband decided to look into getting one custom-made. I'm so glad we found Denis & Ruth, who worked with us to make my dream ring come true--the result completely exceeded my expectations! The entire process was super smooth and enjoyable--Denis & Ruth are wonderful people and made us feel so comfortable. I had tons of questions and moments of indecision between various choices but they were extremely patient and happy to answer all of them. A year after getting my engagement ring, we went back to get a matching wedding band done and again, the level of customer service provided was truly exceptional. I asked them to make a wedding band that was custom-fit to the shape of my engagement ring and they worked with me to create a twist design that looks great as a stand-alone ring, but also fits well with my centre stone on the engagement ring. Initially when I got the band, I wasn't completely happy with the fit...so Denis & Ruth gladly took back the ring, no questions asked, and this time sent both rings off to be 100% sure that the fit was perfect. I am so thrilled with my set now as they look absolutely perfect together and is exactly how I envisioned it! I am truly ecstatic to have such a gorgeous set to wear for the rest of my life--huge thanks to Denis & Ruth! (And I fully intend to wear this set forever, but if I ever need another ring made for whatever reason, I would not hesitate to get it done at Denis Fairhead Jewellers again. Hmm...perhaps I can convince my husband to get me a nice anniversary present a few years down the road? Haha! :P)

Once we easily scheduled a time and date, Denis and Ruth welcomed us into their cozy home on a winter day. They got to know us as a couple before asking us details about the ring, which felt really special and different from the rest of our experiences. We knew that with Denis' many years in ring making that he was the one we wanted to create this forever gift. During our discussions about the vision of the engagement ring, they listened to our needs and added their expertise and advice through it all. They reassured us of the quality, price and process and left nothing out. We left our appointment feeling excited and even more in love! Ruth quickly sent us the quote with the details and we did not hesitate to accept. Throughout the entire process, my fiance was kept up to date and confirm various elements (as I was left to be surprised for the final touches). Even through a pandemic, Denis and Ruth were able to guarantee us the perfect ring on time for the proposal. When the proposal came and my fiance opened the ring box, the ring was so beautiful I couldn't even look at it. We went with a solitaire, Charles and Colvard Forever One Moissanite with a hidden gallery. Thank you Denis for your craftsmanship. We could NOT be HAPPIER! We are so happy to have selected a local business and we will certainly be asking them to make our wedding bands. *UPDATE: As we celebrated our wedding on Oct 10th, 2020. I found out about Denis and Ruth when Ruth posted an article in the Ottawa Ladies Who Lunch group in which they were listed as one of the top three jewellers in Ottawa. My boyfriend and I had been talking about getting a ring and the idea of supporting someone locally was exactly what I wanted to do. I contacted Ruth and she was so accommodating about finding a time that worked for us. After visiting a couple of retail locations and looking online, I had an idea of what I was looking for, but just hadn't found it. When we met with Denis and Ruth, they chatted with us about what we had in mind and looked at some of my favourites. It was such a great process. We then built a custom ring with replica stones and I was able to pinpoint a ring that I loved. We were in a rush to get it so we could tell my grandmother for her 95th birthday. Denis and Ruth had a trip planned, and managed to get my ring done in under a week. When we went to get the ring, Ruth had to go out, but she waited to see my reaction. They have both been so wonderful, kind, professional, and genuine in all our interactions with them. They worked within our budget and worked to make sure I had it to show my grandma. I can not recommend them enough. I absolutely adore my ring!! I can't stop looking at it. It's so perfect, and even more beautiful than I'd imagined. I look forward to working with them again on our wedding bands and future custom pieces.

Of all the vendors and services I've worked with in planning my wedding, Denis and Ruth are the people I would truly recommend to anyone without hesitation. I am so glad we made the decision to reach out to them for our wedding bands. There was no headache, no burden of chasing down answers, and no pressure. Denis is a true craftsman and Ruth is a pro at vision and organization. They ask all the right questions and give incredibly personalized, knowledgeable advice. At no point did I feel like I was getting a sales pitch, and that means the world to a bride-to-be who's naively navigating the wedding industrial complex. For a price that was far less than I would have imagined. The quality is breathtaking and I'm almost as in love with this ring as I am with my fiance--don't tell him ;). If I need any jewelry service again, I'll be going to Denis, and as long as they're in operation I won't be recommending anyone else to my friends, family and colleagues. Ottawa is very lucky to have this small business that blows big-name competitors out of the water and provides service with the kind of sincere, friendly touch that's a luxury in this day and age.

If I could give Denis & Ruth more than 5 stars, I would! My fiancé and I visited many jewelry stores and we felt that the prices weren’t reflecting the quality of the rings and we always felt pressured. Choosing to have my engagement and wedding rings made by Denis and Ruth was one of the best decisions I've ever made! I was having a hard time finding anything I liked in stores, so I searched online for local jewellers and they came up. Their excellent reviews made me choose them over their competitor, so I thought I should add my voice! Ruth is a lovely person to talk to and has a ridiculously fast response time on messages - it was not unusual to get replies from her on evenings, weekends, or even once at midnight! She was incredibly patient with me and my many requests, and I enjoyed her company. Denis did a wonderful job on my ring, and when there was a tiny rough edge on the bottom he had me come right back to fix it the same evening as he was leaving the next day on vacation! I'm in love with my ring - it fits my personal style and lifestyle requirements perfectly. It's simple and beautiful and so sparkly! We are extremely happy with our custom wedding bands and engagement ring! The designing experience was surprisingly easy and painless, even though we didn't know much about fine jewelry. My husband felt very comfortable at the initial meeting, where Denis and Ruth presented different options and guided him through the process. Much less intimidating than a retail jeweler! The customer service was amazing: when there was a problem with a stone, Denis fixed it and improved the ring design, free of charge, to avoid future problems. They also gave us advice about the band shape so we could make an informed decision. We only wish they had more physical ring options on-hand, which would have helped us compare and visualize the final product. Since Denis can create just about anything based on pictures, the possibilities are endless and it can be hard to make a decision! (Our rings were made during the pandemic, so we couldn't go to a store to try different rings on. We just had to trust Denis' judgement, but we're glad we did!) Denis and Ruth were wonderful! I came to them looking for a wedding band. I was still hesitating on whether I wanted a custom band, since the style I wanted was not very common and very hard to find in a store. Ruth did some research for me and showed me the cost of having them create a custom ring for me and also found me a few options of rings already made that I could purchase as is. Denis crafted us a masterpiece. I spent quite a few months looking for a canadian jeweller to design a ring for my partner and Denis' name kept popping up as the person with the necessary skills to pull it off. By pure luck he happened to be located in the same city. Working with his wife to nail down the finer points was an absolute pleasure, despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. They were very patient and the result as you can see for yourself is astounding. The beauty of the ring is almost impossible to capture in pictures. In fact this almost derailed my proposal as my partner was so mesmerized by the ring she did not hear a word I said hahaha. The matching band works perfectly with the engagement ring. It hasn't been a week yet and already she's getting compliments about it from strangers. She herself spends a crazy amount of time just staring at it in disbelief. Again, a masterpiece.

I went to Denis and Ruth for an engagement ring and wedding band, and they were very kind and very thorough! Ruth is great for responding to emails quickly and with lots of information. I couldn't afford a custom set so I did some research on stuller settings, and they worked with me to make sure that my choice of setting and stone were within my budget and of high quality (and they were very patient giving me advice during the final decisions). They kept in contact while my stone was being cut and shipped, and Denis did a great job setting the stone. They also offered to clean everything right before my wedding. The price was extremely reasonable and it's obvious they worked hard to make sure I would be happy.

My husband and I went to see Denis and Ruth for a custom made engagement ring using diamonds from my mother's engagement ring. They are very friendly and easy to work with and worked so hard to make sure I absolutely adored my ring. I got an engagement ring for my fiancee Alitalia under a year ago and now that she has it I can post my review; she said yes! Wow is all I can say about my experience, I went in with a bit of an idea and design and Denis and Ruth sat down with me personally and worked out the ideal ring. We went over the design and the size and material they gave me SO many options but gave me a direction that they thought (knew) would work and look the best. About a year ago a diamond fell out my engagement ring, devastated because it was purchased over seas and to send it back and fourth to be fixed was too complicated. Three years ago, Denis created custom wedding bands for my engagement ring that fit perfectly - so much so that people are surprised it’s not one ring! This year he remade my engagement ring (purchased from another jeweller). It’s so incredibly beautiful and looks identical to my original ring, but much higher quality. Denis handcarved it to match it, it was especially difficult as the two custom bands he created years before needed to fit. Asking Denis and Ruth to create my partner's engagement ring was one of the best decisions of this past year. I cannot say enough good things about Ruth and Denis. We brought in an old engagement ring and Denis removed the two side diamonds and made them into stud earrings for me. Then the second time we worked with them, we had sapphire stones reset where the diamonds were to create a truly gorgeous new ring. They are so flexible with their hours - weekends, evening - and so pleasant to work with. We'll definitely be back when it comes time to create a band to go with this ring. Denis and Ruth are amazing! They were very helpful in guiding me through the design process, selecting stones, and providing thorough care instructions.
