"I have been shopping at cox hardware for 25 years"
"Take this review to heart -- simply put, you'd be hard-pressed to find better service or people in a hardware store anywhere today than what you'll find at Cox"
"I gave it 3 stars because my husband & I buy here when we need something really fast & don't want to drive to Lowe's! Last time we went to buy some wire for a project, well a girl called for 'wire-cutting' on aisle 10,guy shows up,asks what we need, leaves to get measuring tape, comes back without wire-cutters, leaves again to get them! Finally starts to measure & cut & here comes the girl & another guy"
"I needed some supplies to paint a replacement fender on my 1984 Landcruiser"
First visit here. A friend recommended this place for a specific item I was looking for. I had been waiting for over a month to come here. Finally drive across town going in late to work to make it here and they were out of the specific item size I needed. They had like three employees help look as they showed it was in stock, but no one found it. I was told they hadn’t done inventory in a while, okay I guess. Then when the manager Chris asked how I was doing I explained and asked if he would offer me the size up at the same price since they were out of the one I needed and I finally made the trip here. He said no but I’ll knock off 10%. I said of my whole purchase he said no just the one item. WOW saved me a $1, no thanks. Why do I want to overpay for the wrong size. It’s not about the cost but more about the moral. I’ll just order the right one I need online from amazon or from someone who has the exact size of what I need I guess. Yet brick and mortar stores wonder why their losing business to online purchases. I was looking forward to coming back here because it seems like a cool spot but I’ll stick to online or local places closer to home.
I have been shopping at cox hardware for 25 years. they have always been courteous to me. never rude. i know the owner v. cox and his family. they are the nicest people you will ever meet. i ask for help from a girl that was at the top of a ladder stocking items. she immediately stopped what she was doing and walked me across the store to another persons department to show me the item. (try to get that at lowes or home depot.) they have the cheapest prices in houston . cheaper than lowes or anybody else even though the big stores order millions of dollars at one time, they cant beat cox hardware. i read a review about not being able to get an item during the recent freeze. they stock about 50pcs or more of each plumbing item. (how much more can you stock?) they have hard to find items that you will never find or order at lowes or home depot. example-schedule 80 pvc and fittings. (try to find that in houston). i give them 5 star and A++ for as long as i can remember.
Take this review to heart -- simply put, you'd be hard-pressed to find better service or people in a hardware store anywhere today than what you'll find at Cox. The experience here is 1000 times more pleasant, friendly, and helpful than any I've ever had in one of the biggies. Needed a circuit breaker the biggies don't bother stocking. Found Cox on Google, and they had the part. Drove 40 minutes to get there, and they had the breaker waiting for me. Then, the wife and I spent another half hour just walking around the store, fascinated by the incredible variety of things they have. People, products, service -- the perfect trio. We're already planning our to-do list of parts and things for our return trip to Cox. Thanks Virgil and Arnold!
I gave it 3 stars because my husband & I buy here when we need something really fast & don't want to drive to Lowe's! Last time we went to buy some wire for a project, well a girl called for 'wire-cutting' on aisle 10,guy shows up,asks what we need, leaves to get measuring tape, comes back without wire-cutters, leaves again to get them! Finally starts to measure & cut & here comes the girl & another guy. 3 ppl to cut 5ft. of wire! Really?!! They have a small handful of ppl that are willing to help you! The women & guys @ the customer service counter are laughing & giggling everytime I've been in there, they don't acknowledge /greet customers. Cox is my bad habit! I wish I didn't live so close that way I'd have to drive to Lowe's!
I needed some supplies to paint a replacement fender on my 1984 Landcruiser. I found a paint that looked like a close match online and called stores to find it. After O'Reilley's failed me three times I called Cox Hardware after seeing it was in stock on their website. They then checked if it was on the shelf. I came in later that day, found the paint, asked Belinda if I could hold the spray cap next to my car to compare it. She held the paint at the register. I came back in got some more supplies and checked out. Good prices, nice staff, awesome store. Wish I lived closer to it!
Theres was a cashier named vanessa i believe, and she had an attitude the whole transaction. I'd ask a simple question and she'd just ignore it and when she handed my change she was so aggressive about it. Why put a a woman upfront as cashier with such a very rude and aggressive attitude upfront? I understand if someone has bad days but one should leave that at the door specially while working at the register. Didn't even give me the correct change back. Just left it at that and took my purchase. Unbelievable really
Cox Hardware has industrial items you may not find at other hardware stores. Years ago - went to a machinists supply company for thread repair inserts. They sent me to Cox Hardware. I go there on a regular basis. I don't think they sell any decorative things... But if you are a fixer or a builder, you will enjoy the variety of items they have. You can surely beat their prices on the internet, but if you need it now or want to see it: go to Cox Hardware.
I attempted to order a single 2 in brass ring for 2 dollars. They want 13 dollars for shipping, thats not for overnight, thats a flat rate, other option is in store pick up. Wouldn't be a problem except my vehicle was stolen and I figured a single ring would be shipped at a fair price, not the case. Because the shipping was 6 times the amount of the item which couldnt weigh more than an oz I would never recommend this store to anyone.
A little overpriced but it's more organized and you get more help from the staff if you ask for what you're doing. You can get your stuff really quick , and have a very large variety of screws anchors hardware. Definitely recommend this spot. The only thing I can say is a lot of the wood is very Warped, this is just my experience that every time I go there it's like that. But other than that everything inside the stores pretty good.
If you don't want to waste your time running around town looking for hardware items, go to Cox Hardware and Lumber. It's in a safe neighborhood and family owned for 70 years. Everyone is very professional and helpful. In the future, I won't even bother with hardware stores other than Cox Hardware and Lumber. The extra five minutes to get there is well worth the time since it is one stop shopping.
The is a gem of a hardware store that still impresses me on every visit. The customer service associates really go out of their way to help you find what you need. They have fasteners and products that the big-box stores don't have, all at reasonable prices. They also have a better quality-selection of bits, hammers, etc. Also love their glass-cutting service—way cheaper than Binswanger.
I already purchased $20 worth of the incorrect fittings and driven to four different hardware stores before someone knew what I was dealing with. Manual wasn't even on the clock when he overheard me descibing my issue to another employee and brought me the correct line and adapter without being even asked. Customer service like that has become too rare. I highly recommend Cox Hardware.
This is one of the best independent hardware & lumber stores in the Houston area. The store is well stocked with quality products. It's clean and merchandise presentation is excellent. Store associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. In this age of big box retailers like Home Depot and Lowes, it good to see a locally owned store like this thriving.
You'll be hard pressed to find better customer service. EVERY employee I've requested help from has successfully answered my query. They could be on one end of the store and direct you to your item on the other end, and that nice lady with her hair in a bun who works in the back has probably forgot more about plumbing than you'll learn in a lifetime
The most products meticulously organized behind anti theft glass I have ever seen. Great customer service and the prices beat the big guys on most things. If your short a few nuts and bolts please I encourage you to visit and not find that part your needing, as long as it's not a BNC to RCA adaptor, everything else there golden $]
Better than big box hardware but still with problems of finding available help. Out of a lot of stuff need for the storm. Best way to get help is stand in line at check out and then ask for help. Returns are difficult, even if product is being returned for being faulty such as wall patch too dried out to use.
I work for a local manufacturing company called Nema Enclosures and i would much rather come here than to Home Depot or any other hardware store. Iv"e been coming here for a little over 5 years and this place feels like home, everyone is always smiling and willing to help. I"m here at least twice a week!
Reliable and affordable Hardware store! The employees care about helping you and they always have what you need. Right along the street of Wayside their is no way you cannot see it! I needed a screwdriver and even though it was time to close they stayed open a few minutes longer for me. I love them!!
Went in to look for some dowels. No one knew what a dowel was. I had to Google it and show someone the picture of what I was talking about. For a small business you would think they would know what they are selling. The good thing is they had it stocked once I showed someone what I was looking for.
Every time we have been there the team members are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are good and the selection is out of this world. We are amazed everytime we go there at all of the products they have. Some are very hard to find. Great job guys and thanks for the good experience!
Beware of 30 day return policy with receipt. If you don't get it back in time you will have to eat it. Lost $200 on chimney pipe that was the wrong kind for a wood stove. Didn't get them back in time, no receipt, no refund. Will not use them again due to return policy.
My favorite hardware store great prices and for all the little things like nuts bolts and screws that major department store don't have they carry. An amazing staff is always there to greet and help with any questions. Just checkout their catalog online it's extensive.
First time at this store Loved the personal attention the clerks gave helping me to locate just what I needed & looking for, Its like a Hardware Convenience store, has everything Home Depot has but dont have to walk half a football field to get to it, just get & go.
Best place in the city without the big store feel. The employees are very helpful, in case you can't find what your looking for. The store has failed only once to have the thing I was looking for but that was due to me being too fussy about a tool bag I wanted.
I needed UNTREATED 4x4 pine posts for a DIY project. The big box stores don't carry it. Tried to get them to order some for me...nope. Found you guys online and you had plenty IN STOCK! Thanks Cox! I live in Katy but you have earned a new customer now!
I am picky regarding lightbulbs. Ordered 15 online to be shipped all the way to Chicago (can’t find them here locally). The team flawlessly packed the box and it made it here very fast, accurate and - in great shape. Wonderful experience. Thank you.
My go to from now on. I need gas line connectors. Went to lowes and home depot! Waste of time. Went to ace in crosby..useless... stopped at COX HARDWARE..GOT WHAT I NEEDED. HELP READILY AVAILABLE.. I WILL SHOP THERE EVERYTIME I NEED EXPERT HELP!
Cox hardware has been a go to store for years. Serving the East End and surrounding areas. Cox has all your hardware needs and then some. Great low prices. Large selection. Easy to locate along Wayside drive. Please follow me on Google maps.
Upon arrival, it was like an old ma & pa hardware store. There was a wide assortment of merchandise. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Product isles were nicely organized. This location was very busy. They provide great customer service.
Nice place to find whatever you need for house repairs, and more. This place has so many nice things, besides house repair items. Love just looking around. Great staff, very much helpful, any questions ask them, more than happy to help you.
Incredible selection and great prices. Saying the staff are friendly and helpful is an understatement. They go above and beyond to help meet all of your needs. So happy I found this place and would come here over Home Depot/Lowes any day.
Came in from northern Missouri needing several different things for a project going on in Houston. The management there runs a tight ship and shows all the great qualities that a manager should. By seeing this, the only results you will
I was a customer here for the last 8 years. I would spend the few extra dollars because it's a local store. Never had an issue with an exchange until today. I bought a replacement chain for my chainsaw a few months back. Decided to use
I went in to see if I could find a 2in brass check valve and yes I did it was only $25. All the ones on line were like $40-$50. So I didn't have to order it and wait for it to come in. They got me out of a bind!!! Thanks a million!!!
Aww shoot this place is awesome. They have everything. I've live in sugarland area and would take the drive to go there to buy their goods. Their customer service is like if they are family and have almost everything you need.
They have what I need. However, for me, I rate high on customer service. With that being said, everytime I go their I do not get decent customer service. I always say "thank you" but never nothing in return Hence, the 3 stars.
I have been coming here for many years. You can always find someone to give you good help. Unusually good and friendly service. Old fashioned in that way but well stocked. I can't think of a better hardware store in Texas.
They were very helpful even with most of there pipe fiting sold out from the frost. Had a few people ask me if I needed help which was nice. They have everything you could be looking for. I will definitely be going back.
Been going to Cox hardware for years it is convenient and has good prices. Employees are helpful and knowledgeable in their products will continue to go there over big stores you can't beat their costumer service.
Went to Home Depot for this certain tool that I needed. After some help it took me 25 mins to get the item. Turned out to be the wrong one... Came here within 1 min i was in and out. Thank you so much.
Small local hardware. You should definitely ask for help, the location is small compared to the franchise hardware stores, so some items are hard to find on your own. The staff is very helpful.
This hardware store has everything you need. The prices are a bit higher than the big chain stores. But you pay for the convenience and the knowledge of the people working there. Fast service.
Needed a 1-1/2" external snap ring and they were the only place open on a Saturday that I found one at. Lost of specialty tools and parts. Great selection of fasteners. Highly recommended.
The greatest hardware store in Houston and surrounding areas. Probably the best hardware store in Texas! They have every bolt, nut, screw or fastner you could ever need. Love this place!
Very unique hardware store to get those hard to find fittings for your industrial needs, very friendly and attentive personal to help locate whatever it is your looking for in store
Maybe it's because of the location but cashiers are grumpy i guess I would be too if I work their all my life..awesome floor people that are super helpful though so that's good.
Great people, very clean and organized, everything you need for older or new construction with a knowledgeable staff to go with it for a reasonable price and no waiting. Awesome
I called for a quote on material and the person I talk to was 1. Not clear unable to understand and 2. was rude cause they had to repeat information You get more bee with honey
I much rather shop here than any of the big chain hardware store. Cox still has a small town hardware store feel, while providing a wide range of supplies with professionalism.
If it’s some weird bolt I’ve never seen before I just come straight here. Never had an issue here and they’ve almost always had what I needed. 15 years shopping here.
Cox's is always a great place to get me out of a jam I find great deals there and they're always helpful and courteous. Lots of brands and styles to pick from.
You can tell the owner really takes pride in the store. I love finding a reason to go to this place. Their nut and bolt/fastener department is amazing.
Visit Lowe's or home Depot then come here. You will see the difference. Cox has employees that are willing to help. Old school service.thank goodness.
Great place, nice and clean. The people working there are nice and knowledgeable. Only needed a handful of nails found them and got them.
Bought 99% isopropyl alcohol here and no price gouging like most online stores, thank you for the fair and honest business practice.

Great place, they pretty much have everything you need, and if you're not careful, you'll walk out with more than you intended.
The girl that helped is really nice. Very professional and courteous. I believe her name is Sabrina. She went above and beyond.

Employees are very nice and helpful. Store is a little crowded but clean. Shop here all the time.
Only dudes carrying cpvc 1” and up right now don’t ask why, and stay with old school breakers.
I made some keys and one didn't work good but took it back and works well the guy was great.
Very helpful. They have just about everything the Big stores have. My favorite …
Wide selection of plumbing supplies and hardware......bulk safety supplies and drill bits
I found exactly what I needed. The staff needs to relearn their customer skills.
Had 2 different experiences here, both were very pleasant and professional.
