I’m not sure how this hotel has a 5 star rating, I’ve never had a hotel where they are demanding payment upfront straight away even in the spa and in a very business transaction direct manner. My mother, my sister and I all thought we’d try the facial +/- massage and although the girls were nice it was not worth the money at all and we are not fussy clientele but would not recommend. I had ensured to email and book our requested spa treatments 6 weeks before our stay but they had no idea to expect us when we arrived. They also wouldn’t let my sister leave her bags in my room when she arrived despite my already staying there as apparently I wasn’t there to approve despite me giving all our names. The wifi didn’t work for the duration of the stay (3 days) and one day I was planning on working remotely but had to use my phone data for my laptop. All 3 rooms had problems with either the tv or remotes working. The shower was decent but they only provided 2x 15ml shower gels each day. We ended up with a list of problems such as my key not working for the duration of my stay despite them trying to reprint it 3 times over the 3 nights. If you aren’t eating there (the breakfast is not worth it) and using it for the room & location alone then it does the job as a comfortable quiet nights sleep and super handy for popping back between shops/ eating out. I’ve stayed in other hotels and paid a similar amount for much better facilities and service. I must compliment the gentleman who works on the night shift with glasses who was the only decent customer service we received. When we tried to give feedback at the end of stay, every comment we made was met with an unhelpful excuse at how we must have done something incorrectly which is not how to deal with a genuine customer complaint. We had to laugh in the end because the list of things that kept happening was funny but just want to warn people to not expect 5 star quality or service.

I stayed at the Courthouse Hotel in SOHO for a week. Overall the room was a good size and was comfortable enough, but the bathroom was outdated, and the tiles surrounding the bathtub were cracked and chipped. The shower water pressure was low and the water temperature would fluctuate, which was a little annoying, but manageable. The hotel staff were all very friendly and gracious to me. I had an issue getting my TV to work in the room, and Eric was sent to solve the issue. He was very nice and polite, and got my TV up and running. I happened to run into him in the lobby a few times during my stay and he asked me if I was enjoying my stay and making sure that I was comfortable. The location is perfect! If you are looking for a central location that is right in the middle of all the buzz in London, SOHO is the location to be in. The Courthouse Hotel is directly across from Carnaby Street in SOHO, just feet away from cute boutique shops and ample dining options, as well as mere steps away from Oxford Circus and Regent Street. The London Underground is easily accessible from this hotel, making it easy to get around to all the other areas of the city and beyond. While the hotel itself could use a few updates, the friendly staff and the prime location make it worth the visit!

I’m not going to do an essay of a review but to keep this short ….. DO YOUR RESEARCH and avoid this hotel! This is not a 5* hotel (The Courthouse in Shoreditch is). It’s very dated, staff aren’t polite, sewage smells throughout and staff did not seem bothered. Sky didn’t work nor did the WI-FI, breakfast was average at best and the reason I say “Do your research” is I didn’t and after looking at previous reviews I would never of booked this hotel. The gentlemen on the bar in the evening looked bored and was sat there whilst we were waiting for drinks, the hotel charged me twice saying one was pre-authorisation, so basically I’m £800 down and £400 won’t be returned for up to a week. This at best is a 3* hotel and should not be charged out at anymore that £150-£200 per night at the very highest. Very disappointing anniversary weekend To top this off, we wasn’t even asked upon check out “was everything ok with your stay” - keys were taken and that was that - very poor service overall! Hotel has emailed to say we should have requested another room, yet when we reported the issues, the management team were not bothered and nothing was resolved. Hotel has offered a discounted offer to stay again but I’m not quite sure why I would go back to an awful hotel who can’t get it right the first time. £379 for one night of 5* luxury in reality was a night of extremely poor service, horrible smells and an incompetent team who does not know the understanding of customer service or a 5* experience. Management responds that “one” of the payments was a pre-authorisation, yet the money is out of my account for 7 days, no mention on check in (my bank actually called me to alert) and just a very poor experience. I’d get better service from a Premier Inn which is a 3rd of the premium

I’ve stayed in much nicer 3 star hotels than this. The bed was comfortable but the pillows squashed down to almost paper thin. The Air-conditioning didn’t cool the room down and I was only able to open one window 3 inches to its stops - the other window was permanently locked. The tv remote was very old and worn, the buttons were very difficult to read and pressing them 9 times out of 10 resulted in nothing happening. Wifi free but very slow capped at 5MB/s. No bath robes in the room. The toilet had space for two toilet rolls but one was missing. The shower had no hot water so I had to wash myself in the sink in the morning using a corner of the bath towel as a flannel because there were no wash cloths provided only two towels and a single hand towel. This was the worst part. Most other issues can be forgiven, but no hot shower in the morning is unacceptable. It was our anniversary so I asked for them to arrange some flowers and champagne in the room for my wife. £98 and they provided a £31 bottle of claude renoux champagne and a single bouquet of white roses, thistles, white carnations and stock white flowers-maybe £25 considering this is London. Quite the mark-up considering I also paid £322 for the room for one night. Upon check out I was asked if my stay was good, I stated cynically “I’ve had better” the desk staff did not enquire further as to why our stay wasn’t the best and just told us to have a good day. Will not return.

Very disappointing and waste of money. This is not a five star hotel. The quality of the room and breakfast was appalling. I deliberately chose a five star rating as a special occasion trip. But there is no way this hotel is five star. I would expect better quality rooms from a travel lodge. The shower head was broken, only held in place by some scraps of broken plastic wedging it in place, so clearly been like this for sometime. I had to crouch to get my head wet. The shower door on the bath was broken so only one pain remained, so the floor got soaked. The curtains were hanging down on one edge which looked awful and meant light was coming in as they didn’t close properly. There were stains on the curtains and net curtains. There were dents in the wall where someone has clearly bashed it. There was only one small mirror in the bathroom and none in the bedroom. So I had to use the hair dryer without a mirror. Breakfast was disappointing as I had to wait for plates and utensils. It took 15mins to get a bowl for cereal, which was then boiling hot as had just come out of the dishwasher, so the milk in my cereal was then warm. I raised my concerns at reception and was assured someone would contact me within two days, which never happened.

Everything was fine in the beginning until our money (cash) was stolen! Absolutely horrible experience! I travel a lot and stay at good hotels, and I wish I was more careful with the reviews before booking. We were basically robbed at the hotel after our room was cleaned. When the cleaning personnel cleaned the room, we were missing $900 total!!! I have no words. We were arguing with the hotel and were hoping for resolution and refund, but all we got was just "sorry," basically. When security reviewed the cameras, 2 cleaning ladies went to our room, and the first one had an "emergency" call, while the other had to come in and finish cleaning.  So when the hotel talked to them and "checked" them a couple of days after (also weird why not the same day), they said they have been working for them for years, and it can't be one of them (ha-ha, right?). Isn't "emergency call" in the middle of cleaning suspicious? I have no words and would never recommend this hotel. And they claim they are "5* luxury hotel." I have nothing else to add. Just be careful and always read reviews before booking a hotel, since reviews can be very helpful.

Having stayed here for business a few times there was unfortunately a negative trend for this hotel. There are a small number of staff who are excellent and hold the hotel together, however the hotel manager wasn't one of them. For everything good there are two things bad. A few times the breakfast just wasn't available without warning, other times it was perfect and other times just a packet of cornflakes in the self service breakfast room. Had to wait on one visit for the room to be cleaned at 9pm on arrival and was made to wait an hour. Fire alarms going off in the night on various occasions. Wasn't allowed in the car park due to a coach blocking access not moving because management said they didn't need to. Wasn't allowed in the pool as the floor was closed due to a function. I was still paying standard price. I felt this hotel was focused on the service of its large business clients and not a single room occupancy individual. This Hotel could be fantastic. But from my various stays it was definitely not. I really hoped it would have changed as it has the elegance and facilities to be fabulous.

If you have a virgin experience voucher for afternoon tea here, you may want to reconsider and exchange it for a different experience. Unless of course you enjoy being seated in the Indian restaurant located at the hotel with blaring dance music playing so loudly you can barely hear yourself think let alone talk. A party of over 10 very drunk restaurant guests were also in the same room at our 2pm sitting. I am all for enjoyment and merriment but the afternoon tea should be in a quiet, sedate space. The waitress could not serve us until the dinner guests had been served, so we were eventually bought drinks after a good 20 min wait. The food was delicious was small portions of scones. The actual hotel is in a lovely old Court house building and has a beautiful lounge area, but we were not able to enjoy this. Instead we were on wooden uncomfortable chairs in the restaurant. The waitress could not do anything about it and looked embarrassed about the situation. On emailing the manager I received an apology but nothing else. So be warned, this could be wonderful but instead it's a real disappointment.

First of all, I would NOT call it a 5 star hotel, no matter what they claim. But, if you book knowing what to expect, it is a great place to stay. Positives: -The location in Soho is great- just at the entrance to Carnaby St. and Liberty store. And walking distance to Covent garden, Oxford St., and Leicester Sq. -The breakfast was good and the room was a good size, very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. -They also do have a conceirge that was very helpfull Negatives: -It feels outdated, like it needs a serious makeover. -We had a small problem with the check in, when at first they couldn't find our reservation, and when they did- they claimed that it didn't include breakfast although we made sure it did before booking. When we showed the receptionist the emails cofirming our room indeed included breakfast she said it was a mistake, but let us have the breakfast anyway.

I'm not sure where they got their 5* from, hotel looks very tired and far from 5* facilities and service. There were 3 people at front desk and only one doing check in's so it took over 15mins to check in. A/C in the rooms is outdated and very difficult to control and operate. Breakfast very disappointing with maybe 3* standard. We came in 5 minutes earlier and although concierge was very nice and let us come in to seat inside rather than standing the person serving inside was very angry and we could hear him shouting at the concierge. When he opened the door we got 'COME' from him. Very disappointing and music played was loud and club like rather than quiet and soothing which one would prefer at 7.30am. I would not recommend that hotel and you better of staying in chain hotels with 3* that are better than this '5*' .

Not a 5* hotel as it claims. However, still a nice hotel, just set your expectations. Rooms are modern (ish) but could do with some maintenance. As an example our shower had settings of burning or scorched with nothing in between, and only has the option of a rainfall head with only a handheld shower head for those that don’t want to get their hair wet. In addition on TV had one channel, there might have been more but the remote refused to let us choose. The general atmosphere was odd, too quiet… and wow, they need to rethink their bar prices, over £10 for a single spirits.

Way, way too expensive, explains why all their bars are completely empty on a Friday night.

The Courthouse Hotel has a fabulous location right in the Soho area. The facilities and service, however, were subpar. First, our air conditioner did not work and it was hot during our stay. When we complained and asked for another room, we were told that the hotel was full and that an engineer would fix it. When the engineer did not even try to fix it after our first day, we asked again and were offered two fans and a bottle of wine. In addition, we asked the concierge in advance for a restaurant recommendation. No response. We tried again. No response. When we asked for a taxi to take us to the airport, they got the time wrong and we needed to arrange an Uber in a hurry. All this for a hotel that cost us over $680 for two nights. Take my advice and find another London hotel.

Staff in the Indian restaurant side are amazing. Especially Ramadan who took the time to show us around pointing out interesting facts about what is an amazingly interesting building. Sadly the rest of the staff on reception (except Vasille) are utterly shocking. Argumentative, rude and condescending, led by a so called manager called Emma. Room was acceptable, Cinema was good, afternoon tea we enjoyed but only because the team in there were brilliant. Location is brilliant and the actual history of the building is interesting but for the love of God please get front line staff who actually understand what hospitality means. Probably would never stay again. There are far better hotels than this!

This hotel is not even close to 5* I'd give it 2 - 3* at most! Checked in and the woman was completely unenthusiastic about checking us in. We couldn't get into our room so I had to go back to reception to let her know, she disappeared then came back about 5 minutes later and said you'll have to have another room. We got to our new room and it is next to the sky bar and you can hear eveything going on in there. The rooms kettle had to be placed on the floor behind the door to plug it in. The shower is weak and floods the whole bathroom. The furniture is old worn and dirty. I will never stay at this hotel again. I'm already considering leaving and cutting my break short.

This is not a 5 star hotel at all, it is 3 star at best. Loud noises from outside, not soundproofed at all. The service is beyond awful, my TV did not work for the duration of my stay. The manager was not apologetic about this but tried to turn it round on me that I could have changed room. At 12.30 at night when I was in my pajamas with all my stuff unpacked?! I wasn’t even given an official offer to change room. The person who came up to see if they could get my tv to work just looked at me in my pajamas and said ‘you’re not going to want to change room are you’? The decor is not 5 star especially the bathrooms. Absolutely awful experience.

I was really impressed with the bed and bath in our room at Courthouse Hotel. The water is easily regulated too, so you don’t end up like a lobster after a bath. The TV was massive too, we had a great time watching movies after we got back from our nights out. The location is ideal too - near to the tube, shopping, places of interest, bars and restaurants. Few things took from the stay: our card keys kept resetting but reception were more than happy to help us with fixing those. The hairdryer nozzle was missing, but what hotel room ever had one of these? Ha :-) The bar on the ground floor was never open, which was a shame. It looked so interesting. An old courthouse gaol!!

  • Andy Hawkins

The shocking attitude of the reception manager Emma ruined our stay, we had a problem with the booking which was referred to Emma by the young man who had checked us in. Emma was rude, unhelpful and condescending, she really does need to take some lessons from some of the other staff at the hotel who were helpful and friendly, especially Ramaden who went out of his way to look after us. What a pity Emma you tainted our first experience of this hotel with your unhelpful and rude attitude. Train your managment Courthouse hotel, they are loosing you business.

This is listed as a 5 star hotel. Nothing close to 5 stars. More like 2.5. Stayed 4 nights in a Magistrate suite. Room we stayed in looked nothing like the pictures on the website. The room was super dated. The bathroom was horrible. The closet had rotted out shelfs. The hallway to the room had peeling wallpaper. The staff was nice, and the breakfast was OK. Location in SOHO was great. For the price paid....you can definitely find better hotels in London.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We stayed here because it was convenient after seeing a show at the London Palladium. Our room was riddled with a moth infestation and the hotel staff were reluctant to move us to begin with. When we were eventually offered another room, it was in such a terrible state (the original was as well) but it didn't have a moth infestation so we made do because of how late it was. Breakfast was substandard. I'd be prepared to walk further and stay somewhere nicer next time.

I arrived at my hotel early at 9am check in isn’t till 3 so i left my bags with the concierge and went to get breakfast. After breakfast we came back to the hotel to relax in the lobby till our room was ready. They have 10 + sofas in the lobby, i was laying down resting on one not sleeping and they yelled at me that i can’t sleep in the lobby…obviously i wasn’t sleeping..then was told l can’t lay down on the sofa, adding that you can’t eat in the lobby either after seeing my leftover container which i didn’t eat in the lobby.

This is one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. Far from the 5* hotel they claim to be. I paid over $900 AUD for a room with a non-functional shower, no working bedside power points, no wifi and a grubby worn down interior (rotting bathroom included!) The management have been no help and are refusing to assist with a refund. Even the team member who reviewed the room agreed it was unacceptable and that other people complain of the same thing. In summary - DO NOT STAY HERE.

Stayed here for a week on business. This is very far from the 5-Star hotel they claim to be. Rooms are very outdated and worn down and badly need to be renovated and staff was quite unresponsive to simple requests such as delivering an iron/ironing board to the room. To top it off, I was charged for expensive breakfasts by accident, when I had never visited the restaurant. The staff acknowledged the mistake and promised a prompt refund, but it has been 1.5 months of chasing them to refund the credit card without action from them. Expect a budget hotel experience here if you stay.

  • Rachel Smith

This hotel does not feel 5 star at all. I would say 3 star at best. The carpets are grubby and rooms are tired looking. The reception is underwhelming and the rooms aren’t even ready by 3pm which they claim is the check in time. Price wise it is okay given the location but the service is nothing to write home about - transactional & not particularly welcoming or informative. The mini bar is empty and the biscuits in the room are stale. Fine as a business traveller hotel but I wouldn’t be rushing back.

This is NOT a 5 stars. Room updated with walls actually falling a part. TV wasn’t working.. they didn’t even have the public TV Chanels. To use wifi you need to connect through sky and register and give all your personal data to them which of course I didn’t do… they also make you pay in advance even the breakfast which was not good. I paid £5 extra for a latte which I left cos it was disgusting (just go to any coffee shop nearby)! I travel a lot but I will never return to this hotel

Beware of this place, my best friend had a terrible experience staying there. Her room was robbed apparently by a housekeeping staff. A big amount of cash was stolen, and the hotel management ignored the problem and was not helpful at all. Obviously this is not what you would expect saying at a 5star hotel. Shame on this place for having the worst customer service ever, for ignoring customers’ problem and for having thieves as their staff.

Mediocre for the price. Elevators broke several times while I was there. Breakfast mediocre. Bar was right outside my room and when I complained about the noise they said it would be over soon because they were about to close. Perhaps a sign warning patrons to lower their voices since they claim they can’t close the fire doors by the elevators? No iron/ironing board in the room. Housekeeping gave up on refilling water & coffee after the first three days. Location very central but for the price expect impeccable service, not half-hearted.

There are mixed reviews about this hotel, but I found it just fine. Staff is super helpful and responsive. The breakfast was very good in the morning and I like the fact they had generous hours. The bed was very comfortable. I liked the pillows too. Our coverlet could be a little larger for a king bed, but we were fine. Housekeeping was outstanding! Afternoon Tea was great. This place looks like it hasn't been renovated for at least 30 years. Wallpaper peeling off, dirty windows, stains on the curtains, broken lamp switches, scary bathroom with wind blowing through the cracks in the windows. Outrageously expensive breakfast with fake flowers on the tables, supermarket yoghurt in plastic cups and undrinkable coffee and tea, served in old thermos jugs. This is a very, very tired property, worth 3 stars at most. STAY AWAY!

Beautifully refurbished Marylebone Magistrates court into nice pleasant well placed hotel. Don't be put off by the brass plaques on the front entrance which still claims to be a courthouse. Staff were helpful and when I explained that in a previous life I attended the old Court, the concierge showed me and my partner around. Some cells have been retained and No.1 courtroom is still intact. A very happy experience

Our room was quite dated and looked out onto a brick wall. The lift took you to a scruffy alley that you had to walk through - dirty walls and doors. We visited for the Champaign Afternoon Tea. We were directed to the Indian restaurant which is part of the hotel. Odd place for a Champaign Afternoon Tea. For me this hotel was just 'OK' - not really worthy of 5 star status. The staff gave the impression they would rather be elsewhere, which they probably would, but it shouldn't show. Lovely hotel and cinema experience tainted when asked for £34 for 2 glasses of prosecco when visiting the bar during the film. The bar menu said they were £10 per glass. The bar man when challenged did not correct the price so I ordered something else.

Went for an afternoon tea. With a virgin experience day package. Although the afternoon tea was nice, it was just a shame that it was not in the main part of the hotel but was instead in a side room that was quite basic. Still a nice experience though.

The rooms were completely nasty. The AC did not work and the showers were messed up. When I asked if they can refund me a little bit of money for not having a seat, they said no. I recommend do not stay here.

Afternoon tea was a let down. Very pricey for what you get. Cottage cheese sandwich.. very odd and cheap filling. Not what expected for a London hotel. Clotted cream enough for one scone not 4. Would never recommend this. Worst afternoon tea have ever had. Staff were pleasant. Only positive about the experience.

This hotel needs to be purged of all its staff. They are rude, incompetent and don’t understand a basic level of customer services. This is a supposed 5* establishment and the prices are high. I do not expect to be moaned at by a staff member when I make a polite and small request for help with something.

Attended an event there. The staff were very helpful. The food and service was excellent. It's just 2 minutes away from Oxford Circus station.

Visited for an business networking event. Bit tricky to find as roadside signage not very clear and myself and others attending missed the entry first time around. Enough bar and communal space for small social gatherings and networking. Nice theatre style seating and stage idea for small events.

Great bar in the hotel. Relaxed, informal, nice atmosphere. There’s lots of history with this hotel. It’s a former Magistrates Court and the prison cell blocks are even situated as sitting areas in the bar. Go check it out! I’ve even had afternoon tea here which was exceptional.

Incredible cinema venue for private screenings. Courthouse has a lot of history in the arts and the building dates back to the 1800s.

This hotel is horrible, I checked in, and when I Got to the room couldn’t stay, immediately I check out. Money lost, but no one would make me sleep one night in there. Towels were old, stinky carpets, the sofa in the room was disgusting how dirty the fabric was.

I am giving this hotel a 1 star review because my husband and I were just profiled by a staff member and this completely unacceptable. I came to this hotel on a business trip with my husband who is in senior management at Sony PlayStation.

Friend and I had afternoon tea at this location. Unfortunately the cakes and sandwiches came up very short. We weren't given the full choice of sandwiches available in the package. The sandwiches themselves had very little filling to bread

Popped in this evening with some Canadian friends for a cocktail in the bar. The barman was unsmiling and had difficulty communicating. He was wearing just a T- shirt. He told us there was no bar menu so no prices displayed. We had to pay

Hotel is not 5*, should be rated as 4* and could do with a refurb. It’s a shame as the location is great and the place has a really good story. This could be made so much better and would likely be somewhere people return. I think it’s

They don't have a decent WiFi connection if you stay for a business visit, you will suffer a lot. It constantly disconnects

By far the worst "5 star" hotel in the world. Room had a nice view of barbed wire, service was poor, food options incredibly paltry, things didn't work. This is a motel.

To suggest that the Courthouse is a 5* hotel is shocking. I didn’t check any reviews before I booked this place, and as its situated just off regent street, I thought how bad could it really be? Oh how wrong I was.

Had afternoon tea here as a gift via Virgin Experience. Overall nice but not a 5 star hotel experience. Food was good but the setting in the Indian restaurant and the hotel in general are not of 5 star quality.

  • Fraser Macdonald

Great location but that’s it the only positive. Tired rooms, unhelpful staff, you’d expect more for £300 a night excluding breakfast. Won’t be returning

We had a "virgin experience day" voucher which I bought for my partner for Xmas (roughly £100 or so) 3-course meal for 2 in the "soho wala" restaurant, complete with champagne cocktail.
