I'm a California Jew accustomed to davening in conservative and modern orthodox settings. I read on the Sherith Israel website that they offer a spirited Carlebach style Friday Services (my favorite!) and I decided to check it out. I have been active in many shuls and minyanim in Southern California and Northern California. My experience at Sherith Israel was strange and unwelcoming. True story: I arrived at sherith Israel at about 6:10 pm in hopes of catching the last of kabalat Shabbat and davening. A security guard stops and asks me if I have a code to enter. He informs me that without a code and being 15 minutes late, they may not allow me to enter. the security guard asked a young man to go get Yuri. Yuri comes out, he looks me over, and chuckles. Yuri asked me where I was from and why I was there. Yuri informs me that they are weary of newcomers given recent events in Israel and around the world. He says, 'but you are welcome.' It felt unwelcoming. As a Jew, my friends, family and community have been greatly affected by the ongoings in Israel. I've never arrived later on a Friday night to shul and denied initial entrance, or been told a community is 'weary of newcomers.' I got in my car and drove five minutes down the street. I had an amazing and welcoming Shabbat at the West End Synagogue!

This became home for my spiritual side,since 2014, Cantor Lieberman developed in me the focus God intended in my spiritual sojourn. I've learned in a clarity of mind, We are all part of a on going theatrical play, each assigned a part in a play, choragraping our physical minds and Bodies. I've chosen to become a bit part actor Interacting with my brothers and sister of Sherith Israel

Best and most fun synagogue you can find. Rabbi Saul is a great guy and musician and Cantor Lieberman is very nice and funny comedy and great teaching and music what else could you ask for.

Fabulous Shabbat sermons by Rabbi Saul Strosberg and a welcoming congregation. If you're looking for a traditional service, mostly in Hebrew, this is your synagogue.

Good Shul to find minyin. The rabbi was very welcoming and his lecture was very meaningful. They have nice Jewish activities going on and they even have a Mikva

Fantastic place to worship and find Peace! The Rav, Chazan and Community are Wonderful people. I Love them all Very Deeply!

Work at the synagogue on occasion. Great people here. Rabbi Saul one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

If you have cash they will love you, but if you are financially struggling you are not worth their time.

I go here sometimes, more often to Chabad of Nashville, but Sherith Israel is a nice shul to pray at.

Very friendly synagogue with an interesting membership. Very friendly town. Beautiful mikveh.
