Staff in this counters need some training. I was 3rd in the queue. First person buying about 10 tickets (even notice says one person can purchase only 5, staff allows to book any number by filing multiple forms). It took more than 10, minutes (not too sure how they work that slow). Then the second person, someone come there with internal reference. That lady told she's referring to a someone's telephone call. Then they start discussing about the trip plan. Even the lady was there purchase one way ticket they start discussing her options to come back. Whether to catch a train from Bandarawela or whether to come back with boss. What to do do in Bandarawela. About the official projector they planing to do in there. How much percentage of budget already approved. Uncertainty about approving second part of budget. How previous project failed due to budget not approved. After all those long discussions, staff decided to issue ticket. This whole thing took over 15 minutes while more people queuing in counter upto entry door to get tickets. Then i got my chance. Buying same number of tickets as previous lady. Took less than a minute. If you want to have chit-chat with friends do that in outside or else after work. Not in the counter where people come there to get tickets. Even your time is useless, remember other people's time much more worth than yours. No forms in the desk to fill. No ink left on two ballpoint pens.

I came here to travel from Colombo to Kandy. After I couldn’t buy tickets online I went to the train station and made the mistake of entering the tourist information centre which is a tour company separate from the train station… I mentioned I wanted to buy tickets for the train and it was all great until he made the phone call to see if the tickets are available. He said they will call back he started to recommended some stuff to do in Sri Lanka but it came apparent that he is a tour operator and is trying to sell his services. He kept pushing and pushing for us to rent a car and driver from him to take us around. I mentioned about the train tickets again he called someone and told me he can get me tickets only if I rent a car. Don’t waste your time in the tourist information center. Walk past it and go straight to door number 17 and ask them for your ticket. Mr Linton is not an honest person. Overall the train journey was smooth once I got my tickets and the second class seats to Kandy was a really pleasant journey. I would of given the station a 5 start if I hadn’t wasted an hour of my time been pressured to rent a driver when I clearly just wanted train tickets

Wir wurden an Schalter 17 von einem Bahnmitarbeiter total verarscht. Wir wollten für den nächsten Tag 2 Tickets für den 8:00 Zug von Kandy nach Ella kaufen. Der Mann am Schalter sagte uns das der Zug ausverkauft ist, im 11:00 Uhr Zug gibt es aber noch Plätze in der 1. Klasse. Eigentlich wollten wir 2. oder 3. Klasse fahren. Wir nahmen die Karten der er für uns gefunden hatte. Zusammen 3000 Rupien. Wir überprüften noch mal das Datum und fuhren erstmal mit dem Zug (andere Tickets) nach Kandy. Abends im Hotel wollten wir nochmal gucken wann der Zug genau fährt und stellten fest dass wir komplett falsche Tickets hatten. Wir hatten Tickets von Bandulla (liegt hinter Ella) für die Gegenrichtung, zu einem Ort den ich noch nicht einmal aussprechen kann. Hier lag also keine Verständigungsproblem vor. Totale Verarschung von Touristen, ohne einen für mich ersichtlichen Grund bzw. Vorteil für den Mann am Schalter. Umtauschen oder zurück geben konnte man das Ticket leider auch nicht mehr. Tipp : bitte immer die gekauften Tickets genau überprüfen auf Datum, Uhrzeit, Zugnummer, Startbahnhof und Endbahnhof.

It's usually very crowded however following the covid 19 pandemic the crowding has reduced. If you wish to purchase first class tickets go to counter number 17 (if I remember correctly) and make a booking at appropriate counter(I will upload some pictures of the train schedules however some of these train might not function due to the pandemic). There's a small counter close by to the first class reservation office where you can collect the ticket slips for tickets purchased through mobile partners - dialog and mobitel. There are also limited parking slots available however depending on the time of the day they might collect a parking fee. There are plenty of threewhelers parked inside however personally I feel it would be better to use other transport service apps and book a desired vehicle to travel. The main bus stand is very close to the station and there is a bus stop in front of the station also.

I had a disappointing experience at Colombo Railway Station. The station seems stuck in the past with outdated technology, and the staff's attitude left much to be desired. It's frustrating that they still rely on unnecessary manual processes when digital methods could streamline things. When I asked for train schedule details, I received slow and unhelpful responses. Most staff members appeared more engrossed in their phones than assisting passengers. The main telephone line was often busy, and the sole small digital screen for train schedules was insufficient. The station was also poorly maintained, reflecting a lack of proper management. Overall, a disappointing and frustrating experience. In general, the management practices of the Sri Lanka Railway Department to be severely lacking, relying on outdated manual processes. The overall management left much to be desired.

Ein Stern ist ein Stern zu viel. Wir kauften hier mehrere Tickets an unterschiedlichen Tagen. Alle Tickets wurden ausnahmslos fehlerhaft ausgestellt. Arbeiter arbeiten weder zuverlässig noch kompetent und sind an keinem der Tage freundlich aufgetreten. Komplett überfüllt, viel zu wenige und langsame Arbeiter. Nach 40 min. Warten, um ein Ticket zu buchen wurde dies auf den falschen Tag ausgestellt. Nach Fotobeweis, dass wir das Formular mit richtigem Datum ausgefüllt haben, zeigten die Mitarbeiter keine Kulanz. Fazit: wir bezahlten den vollen Preis für 2. Klasse mit Sitzplatzreservierung und endeten am falschen Reisetag in der 3. Klasse 8h stehend bzw. auf dem Boden sitzend. Zudem mussten wir 4 neue Tickets kaufen. Wir bekamen unser Geld nicht zurück. Bitte die Tickets doppelt checken, Reklamierungen sind nach 15min nach Ticketausstellung unzulässig.

Can buy tickets for the train. Could do early booking as well. It's bit confusing for a person who comes here for the first time, as there are some thing like 17 counters for different destinations. 17 been the booking counter. Distance between counters is some thing like 100 m apart. Counters are put together in a not so logical manner. Always make sure to take change money as there are many occasions they don't have change Alert make sure the ticket is for the right description and sure to check the balance payment as there is several confusion.

Relevant authorities should take immediate interest to improve all essential facilities like the washroom, Waiting Area, Rest Room and etc. All the facilities are like in 1970 and updates. Very Poor being Country main railway station. It's is impossible to get any details through the exchange line it's always busy and no one answered... It seems that no one is here to improve and take responsibility. Very poor at all levels except train seats. It's has been upgraded upto some extended.lot to improve

**Important and useful information** At Fort railway station they have a cloak room with locker facility. Anyone can use this to safely store their luggage at very nominal price. It comes very useful if you have heavy luggage and you need to travel light and come back for luggage later. Rather than book a place to store it, you can easily deposit your luggage in cloak room and lock the locker with your own padlock. It also comes handy if you’re checking out of hotel and have flight/train at night.

Ticket counter peoples are always very tired , no friendly look. Customer care very bad. When ask qualifications they reply once and with looking another side. This is the centralised railway station of Sri lankan rail hub.. Very busy place most of the time.. Ticket bookings, Rail goods transportation and post dated ticket printing are some facilities offered here.. Consists of a tourist information centre, rail police station, few canteens and 3 ATM machine in the premises.. ‍♀️ No wheelchair access among rail platforms.. ☹️ Washrooms are in bad conditions.. Staff people are not friendly.. ‍♀️

They do their work as usual. It feels like they aren't doing anyone any special favors. They give us the train schedule information we need to know according to their system when we ask. It must be said that excellent service is provided here. It is convenient for them as well as for us if we can check the train schedule online before we reach there. This is a great service for foreigners too. In my previous experience there were many foreigners to book train seats.

It's busy, when you go through to the platforms you can't smoke so be sure to have your ticket on you if you need back out to return again, very crowded - as expected, nowhere near enough seating but we managed fine, it's a scramble when the trains come so be prepared to get your elbows out!! Desk 17 will let you buy intercity tickets including 1st class and the staff are so helpful and polite - can't rate them highly enough!

Colombo fort railway station is the main station in Sri lanka where you can get a train to anywhere. Place is always fairly crowded. If you dont book your tickets then it might be a little struggle to get a seat as all the people try the same. You can book your ticket from many railway stations, over a call or via website. All the train timetables available online and with the country situation they might change.

Incompetent and impolite staff. Better check 5 times your ticket after 15 min buying. The staff can’t neither read numbers nor letters. Everything on our ticket was wrong. We waited for this ticket 40 min. At the day of our complain, we stood in front of a closed counter. We don’t understand how the people are working here in the capitol of Sri Lanka. No goodwill. No accommodation. Only bad workers.

Announcing sounds quality is very poor.. all of Srilankan railways station announcers havent to idea how to use microphone properly and how to balance low, mid and high frequency in amplifier. Therefore every announcing are very unclear and can't understand. They're dont care about train latency and accidentally platform changes.. sometimes passengers should be find out changed platform.

The busiest railway station in sri lanka. you can find most of the trains from here. Staining facilities are available here until your train arrives at the flat form. The poor maintain canteens and the washrooms in this station. Its located in the middle of the colombo city. You can find many government organizations and other organizations with the transport support from this station.

Very inefficient. If you need to get a ticket, you must reach this place at least one and half hour. They are not worried whether the train would leave or not. For an example, for the intercity train that leaves from Colombo to Kandy at 3.35 PM, they start issuing tickets at 2.30 PM. Till 2.30 the counter man just keep talking with fellows.That is how they manage ticket issuing.

Nie wiedzieć czemu nikt z tej stacji nie jedzie pociągiem na lotnisko ;) Bilet groszowe sprawy. Byłem bodaj jedynym białym podczas jazdy a wiele się działo, tańce, pokazy, sprzedawcy.. Od stacji Katunayaka South do lotniska jest raptem tylko parę km. Jak się ma tylko bagaż podręczny i kocha zwiedzanie od podszewki (życia miejscowych) to tylko koleją.

Great fun . Outside the main entrance there is an office. Tourist information. The guy was great. He wrote down where, when, class , what was able to pre reserve. Sent us to the correct ticket desk. This is very busy place. This is the destination of most of trains come form all around the country. There are around 11/12 platforms. Also other sanitary and food facilities are available. Easy access to private and CTB bus stand. All the information regarding the train are announce and display. So easy to get Idea about trains.

A separate air-conditioned area for tourist. Never seen such bad service, rude, inconsiderate towards customers and aggressive. Staff acted as if they don't care about service, customers. Some couters have nice people while some counters have very rude people. Even though they live on people's money, it seems many of them have forgotten that. Also, male toiles on these stations, which are awailable for the local public, are maintained very poorly, and they are not equipped with nesessory pipes and handshowers .

I recently used the Ticket counter to purchase tickets for a show and I have to say it was a pleasant experience. The customer service was great and the ticket prices were reasonable. The website was easy to use and the tickets arrived quickly. Overall, I would rate the experience 3/5 stars.

There are long queues for every ticket counter as the bus fair is much expensive in the country now. Less staff working and they provide a great service under the prevailing condition in the country. Better to come at least 15 min.to catch a train.

Helpful and fast. I had no line. They also directed me to the platform. I took the 7:40am third class train from Colombo Fort to Puttalam. For most of the journey it wasn't too crowded. There are fans inside and the windows open.
