This place is a poor example of a house of God. The dean is a charlatan, only good for pushing his own agendas, first and foremost a political one. It is tragic how this Cathedral has disbanded its greatest treasure, and unique identity of offering dignified worship. It was not a priority to save its choir of Men and Boys, not to mention its place as a place of spiritual and artistic vision for the true work of God, not part of the political mess we find our world in. It is truly impossible to recognize this once gem of American worship, especially in the sports-dominated city of Indianapolis. I wonder what the great benefactor of the Cathedral would think about the current state of this playground of political farce? It is shameful that such preoccupation with the mess of fading secular rot has replaced a higher, spiritually uplifting and nourishing Cathedral community. Pretty poor excuse for a cathedral, just a showboat of hypocrisy. You have the most shallow, fake dean that pushes his own agenda and doesn't care about anything else. The music program here has just fallen straight to hell under the dean and the new staff, so what's the point?

What this church does very well: 1. Outreach to Hispanic and LGBT communities. 2. Gorgeous services, CD-quality music from the choir every week. 3. Socially engaged with the community. (If you are a political or social conservative, you probably won't like this church. Consider attending an ACNA church, instead.) 4. Not afraid to make political or social statements, based in Scripture (putting the Holy Family in a cage as a protest against the really cruel and inhumane policies of Donald Trump and Greg Abbott). 5. Summer strawberry festival. DO NOT MISS THIS IF YOU ARE IN INDY IN JUNE!!! Where this church needs work: 1. Welcoming newcomers. I attended this church for six weeks and was not greeted one time during those six weeks, so eventually I left. 2. Cliques. There are strong cliques in play at this church. The parish as a whole needs to work on disengaging these cliques and making newcomers feel welcomed.

I just heard the outstanding sermon from this church on the radio whilst driving in IN. I am very impressed that they truest preach the message of Jesus. I ask those who say othwrwise in their reviews to actually pick up the Bilble they quote and read. Don’t just read what your church tells you should read, but read and interpret, do not have it interpreted for you. You should never hear, “......and Jesus said, and that means....” in your church. I heard this ZERO times in the sermon at Christ Church Cathedral. To those who say a church should stay out of politics it is ironic to me that recently the GOP pushed thru an change to 501c3 law that allows churches to contribute to campaigns, and engage in political speech. This church does not agree with your line and the shoe is on the other foot and it is not comfortable.

This historic church is a wonderful and welcoming presence in the heart of the city! The music is phenomenal and their Christ-centered messages are backed up by real action! This church is responsible for helping start and fund some of the most effective outreach organizations and initiative across the city, such as the Damien Center and the Julian Center, among others. The annual Strawberry Festival is not only a cultural treasure for the downtown residential and business communities, but also returns 100% of its proceeds to the community in the form of grants. I’m continually impressed by Christ Church Cathedral’s ability to assume a leadership role while bringing Christ’s message to life for all people, not just a few.

My wife and I visited this Sunday. The point of google reviews is to hear from people who have ACTUALLY been to the place. I would venture to say most of the 1 star reviews are people who have not attended this church in any way shape or form. So please use your judgement when reading these ;) First off, they offer a homeless breakfast on Sundays before church which is cool. They read from the Bible (gasp) and I heard the gospel preached very articulately from the pulpit. You can be politically engaged and preach Christ, those topics are not mutually exclusive. I would say this church doesn't just make a statement and then not take action in the community. I look forward to visiting again to find out more.

The Fisk University Jubilee Singers, our Fisk University Jubilee Singers performed here a few weeks ago. Christ Church did an exceptional task of hosting these Grammy Award Winning World Renowned Singers. I am especially humbled in that my Great, Great Uncle Reverend Dr. Willis R. Revels was one of the first Preachers on this land before Christ Church was moved here. You see the first African American Church Bethel Cathedral A.M.E was once home here until a fire burned the church to the ground. Humbly submitted, Ambassador-at-large Dr. Angela J. Love this action-oriented parish. They welcome all who come into their doors. This is truly a faith home to all who consider themselves followers of Jesus. The interior space is beautiful and historic. The location on the Circle in Indianapolis assures that this church has an important place in the life of the city. They host many inter-faith events, Episcopal leadership events, civic and public arts events. The clergy and staff are loving and embracing. Their personal example provides an example and inspiration to many. There are both English and Spanish language services, as well as Rite 1 and Rite 2 services. Our family is so grateful for this faith-filled community.

This Church is special - to me and to the community of Indianapolis and the state, as a whole! We are lucky to have it here. As a 30 year old, I began going to this Church and eventually converted to the Episcopal religion. I have been officially an Episcopal for 6 years now; but, I know that I have been one my entire life. It is a special thing when you find your spiritual home on Earth! And, no matter where I live, or how far away from Christ Church Cathedral I am physically, I know that it will always be my Earthly spiritual place of residence. You can’t find a more accepting and welcoming Church to attend!!

  • James Goins

For one I love this place because it's a church . These are highly committed God Fearing human beings who reach out to the less fortunate of the City of Indianapolis and surrounding counties. Missionary work to other parts of the world definitely is on the list when it comes to the reasoning for the five star rating. On top of that there is an AA meeting in the basement of the church every week day at 12:00 P. M. - 1:00P. M. There's a breakfast on Sunday Morning s starting at 7:00 A.M. until 8:00 A. M. for the less fortunate. I always feel welcome there. God bless .

I started attending this church when I first moved to Indy nine years ago and lived downtown. When I bought a house in the suburbs, I thought I'd find a church closer to home, but I never found one that was as soul satisfying as Christ Church Cathedral. The dean gives powerful uplifting sermons. The members are diverse and stimulating. The music is very good quality, with professional level singers. There is a spanish-speaking service in the afternoon. Plenty of opportunity to engage in a variety of ministries and spiritual experiences.

Jesus didn't sit with the rich, he sat with the outcasts of society, the poor, the persecuted, and the broken. It's a lesson that needs repeating over, and over, and over again. Maybe someday we humans will finally learn how to love each other as much as we love ourselves. Until then, I appreciate my church for sitting with those who need representation the most.

  • Sam Burdge

This is an episcopal “church”…….they are within the Anglican Church…….meaning they follow the monarchy in london and believe that he speaks for god…….the evil hubris……they divided the true descendants of Jesus and his followers, the right and righteous Roman Catholic Church, who received the mantle of Christian leadership directly from Jesus and god via Peter

  • Kristy Reisinger

Very abusive staff. They somehow think handing people stuff is help. Not to everyone. Then if you point blank tell them they aren't helping they ban you & tell you you need mental help when they are the ones that are incompetent as heck. You don't force handouts of any kind onto people. That's very abusive. Bye bye abusers. Start correcting yourselves.

’Tis that look that melted Peter, ’Tis that face that Stephen saw, ’Tis that heart that wept with Mary, Can alone from idols draw: Draw and win and fill completely, Till the cup o’erflow the brim; What have we to do with idols Who have companied with Him? J. N. Darby Cease from your politics and your idols and the Lord may bless you.

Thank you so much for living, breathing, walking the walk, of our Savior Jesus! Showing love to all, especially to "the least of these," the children, the refugees, the hungry, the poor. "You shall know them by their works." The church is not the building, it is the people. Thank you for spreading the love of Jesus. Many Blessings!

  • Catharine Davis

Beautiful building and the choir is VERY good and when the organ hits the lowest notes you can feel the vibrations in the floor. That's some powerful organ and the organist is really good too. The service was familiar since I'm a cradle Episcopalian, and the regulars are very welcoming to visitors and newcomers.

  • Stephanie

Some hated Jesus for being a “rebel” and some will hate the church too. Those who hate this church hate Jesus. I don’t see politics, I see a social issue. I see innocent children being treated the opposite of what Jesus said to do. Mathew 18:10 for all the hypocrites who give this church a poor rating!

  • Wyndee Holbrook

I have worshiped and worked on special projects with Christ Church Cathedral. I can't thank them enough for their Christ-like spirit of care and hospitality. Both the clergy and the congregation are committed to sharing the good news of God's love with their community and the world.

Quite nice place to visit. People coming in and out are very well behaved. A piece of history in downtown Indy with no much luxury. Beautiful glassworks.

I have know Dean Carlsen and Canon Lee Curtis for quite some time. They have a deep sense of calling to reach out to the neighboring communities, to speak up and speak out when necessary about important social and theological issues, and a well of compassion for those in need.

  • Andrew Flittner

Decent church but very liberal. Like seriously liberal. They will take time to work hard to tie current events to things in the Bible even when the connection is loose in order to tell us how liberals are right. My favorite was the protest on Palm Sunday. Wow. Just wow.

  • Quincy Moreland

I did not go inside, nor attend a service. But, the church and its architecture was used as a rendezvous point for my youth group going out and doing homeless ministry. The outside was clean and very beautiful, as it sat on the west side of the American Legion Mall.

  • keith richards

Apparently this church does not believe in following man's law as the Bible asks us to do as Christians when it comes to immigration. You should be ashamed of yourselves as you are risking the lives if ICE agents by your Godless, shameless grab for media attention.

  • James Boston

I was there for a three day meeting. We had excellent staff support in an historic setting. The building is awesome, beautiful, and well maintained. Sorry to have to miss Sunday worship, but blessed by the quiet weekday worship at morning, noon and evening.

  • Sharli Schaitberger

I'm so impressed! This church is protesting the treatment of asylum seekers and immigrants. This is what Jesus would do. That's what makes this political topic important for a church to find it's voice and their display hits the nail on the head. Thank you.

  • Lonnie Perry

Christ Church Cathedral is one of my favorite buildings around the circle. The congregation has done an amazing job keeping the building beautiful. It's hard to believe it was built in 1857.

This church truly reflects the love of Christ, not only by giving preference to the poor in a variety of outreach programs for the larger community, but by welcoming each of us, without exception, into the circle of God's embrace.

  • Edward Temple

I was diagnosed with cancer so my wife reached out to the church for assistance with our utilities. The church was extremely kind enough to help out with both utilities. We cannot thank you enough! God bless and thank you!

  • Alesia Bond

I love all the "Christians" performing mental gymnastics to validate their beliefs that they belong on one side of the imaginary line and other people fleeing violence arent good enough since they were born somewhere else
