Chateau Dufresne was built from 1915 to 1918 and designed as two residences. The mansion was built for two wealth French Canadian entrepreneurs. One side was for Marius Dufresne and the other side for his brother Oscar Dufresnes. The mansion was designed by Marius Dufresne and the Parisian architect Jules Renard in the Beaux-Arts style. The architects based their plans on the Petit Trianon of the Palace of Versailles in France The interior was decorated with a series of murals and ceiling paintings by Guido Nincheri. I would recommend visiting this architectural jewel. It is only a block from the Pie-IX Metro station across the street from the Olympic stadium.
Beautiful building with fantastic floors, ceilings and woodwork. Partially decorated (one side only) which was lovely. $30 for a 15 min self guided tour is steep. Our tour was spoiled by a VERY unpleasant employee who was neither helpful nor knowledgable. Lastly, there are several QR codes but no real information displayed anywhere..I'm not one to want to stare at their phone the entire time trying to find out information. Most info was attained post tour on Google. Photo's and video are not allowed even though you must use your phone's camera to access the QR code.

They kept following us around and telling us we shouldn't shotting pictures of ourselves . It was not something that was notified at first, and they said that some photos were okay, but photoshooting was not allowed. I don‘t understand why, but it’s their rule so I hope you find out before you go so you don‘t experience something as unpleasant as we did.

Honestly a bit underwhelmed. The architecture is beautiful but there needs to be more information about each room or specific objects. I don’t think I would necessarily recommend this place but if you’re nearby it is nice to look at. Seems like they’re working on restorations and adding more guides so might be worth a visit in the future

Extravagant and luxurious places with classical style wall paintings and fine arts decorations. It demonstrates the history of the Defresnes, one of the most wealthy francophone house in Montreal in the early 20th century. A wonderful place for history and art lovers.
Interesting turn of the century Beaux Arts mansion with nice interior decoration. Odd layout since it was really two separate residences. Worth an hour visit.
