My husband and I have a point of staying away from hotels and stay at locally owned cabins and B&Bs. When we were invited to attend a wedding just outside of Seattle we decided to stay at Casa de Esperanza because it was locally owned, much more affordable than the block reserved for the wedding party, and public transportation was nearby. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Barbara. We were exhausted after a day of traveling. She showed us our room, gave a small history of the home, and told us breakfast would be ready at the time we had discussed through e-mails beforehand. Breakfast each morning was different than the last, organic ingredients were used whenever possible, some ingredients were used from her garden or local vendor who she knew personally, the food was delicious and surprisingly very filling, and the last breakfast of our stay was the best (I won't tell you, but you won't be disappointed)! We stayed in the Orchid Room. It was decorated nicely and to the period of when the home was built. She was very aware of the needs of her guests and the bedroom/bathroom were set up for any guest wishing to stay. Barbara was a wonderful hostess and it was a highlight of our trip when we talked with her in the mornings about our mutual love of art and general conversation of this n' that. We look forward to staying with her again in the future and happily recommend anyone visiting the Seattle area to stay a few nights at this overall wonderful bed and breakfast.

Just got back from a long-weekend visit to Seattle for a friend's wedding, with a wonderful stay in Casa de Esperanza. This is a classic B&B, about as anti-commercial as you can get. The proprietor, Barbara, makes you welcome in her home, a well-preserved 1930s vintage house in a quiet residential neighborhood. A six minute walk takes you to Mioposto, an excellent neighborhood bistro/pizzeria, and another six minutes through Mt. Baker Park takes you to the shore of Lake Washington. We stayed in the Orchid Room, which has a new soaking tub in the ensuite bathroom. The breakfasts were excellent and freshly made. This is the real deal; highly recommended.
