A frequent visitor to the library for many years and have never had a bad experience until today - so bad that I made an account to write my first ever review. I often use this library to study and prefer it over other libraries like SLQ because you can bring food in - which is handy cus I often spend hours there. I usually come with a friend and we study together and bring in food of different cuisines. I am of asian background and brought in to Japanese chicken and rice which I have purchased from the food court and have brought in many times and so has my friend. This time when I came alone and took the meal out of my bag which was room temperature (therefor the heat wasn’t rising into the air and spreading odour) as I had purchased it a while before coming into the library. When my meal was 70% finished a staff member happened to walk by on her way to another room but on her way she stopped when she noticed my food. It didn't bother her or anyone until she saw what it was. She impolitely tried to get my attention because I had headphones in and once I removed them, I was shocked by the nasty tone coming out of her mouth. She said “you can’t eat THAT in here! You need to take it outside! That smells and it’s drifting all over the place!” while using what I found to be aggressive gestures. As I was obviously embarrassed, I was also obviously hastily trying to cover my food to which she leaned over me the whole time while I was doing it and made me feel very uncomfortable. I put it in my bag and she looked irritated that I didn’t take it outside. For the rest of my duration at the library I felt awkward and like I was being attacked in a way because I was sitting by myself - and it took me back to the days in primary school when other kids thought my food was “weird” and would make fun of me because I wasn’t eating what they were eating because my asian mum would prepare my lunches. I feel like if I hadn’t been sitting alone and away from people this woman would have never approached me. Because I have been to this library so much and there are a diverse groups of guests, I have seen people eat all different types of cuisines (Indian, asian, Mexican) - and I have never seen people get approached like this and I think it’s because they were surrounded by other people - where as I was by myself in one of the booths so no one could witness it. what makes my food the “wrong” food to bring in? It wasn’t even hot and wasn’t pungent at all. They literally have a kitchenette in there (I have never used it) but does this mean I can’t use it because my culture is wrong and my cuisine choice “can’t be in here” ? so much for PUBLIC library.

The study tables or booths are never available and the patrons called “students” that take up a whole both just to sit by themselves and watch YouTube are also talking loudly on the phone. It’s an indoor park not a library. What happened to the hushed respect for those wanting a quiet place to browse for books or sit and read peacefully? I know the children’s area will have some noise and is a great area for reading aloud to your child, I have fond memories of that here & the rhyme time and ABA group meetings. Great community meeting points for that. Those areas are separate and it’s ok to hear them from a distance. Just disappointing that the library staff don’t encourage softer voices or no loud phonecalls. How do we teach the younger generations to share space? It’s like survival of the fastest and most arrogant to gain a booth or table. Those wanting to sit and actually read a book (hence a library) find little joy in the noise of business phonecalls & nowhere to reside for a peaceful escape in a good novel or magazine. Will Carindale library please install more booths and study tables as there seems to be a growth in student population and no space or petrol prices & online lectures have forced people to study in local libraries instead of driving into university. A change needs to therefore happen at Carindale library to evolve with the adapting study styles post-covid.

Now I am getting old and stiff in the joints. I like to mediate while grazing in the pasture. I think that was the happiest part of my life. At that time I had no work to do and could run about after my mother without any restraint. Most of my time was spent in the fields. But that could not last for ever. When I was old enough, the trainer came and fastened a long rope to my head and then began driving me round and round in circles with his long whip. I was so tired that I could scarcely stand. Then I was bought by a young officer as a polo pony, and I soon got to love the game. He was a kind master and a good rider. But he get into debt and had to sell me. I was bought by a gentleman and a lady who kept a buggy. They trained me to run in shafts. I hated this work. My owner got disgusted at last and sold me to a gentleman who was fond of hunting. I was delighted to get back to saddle-work. But an accident put a stop to that jolly life. I was in hospital for four weeks. Then I was sold to a gentleman who wanted a quiet riding-horse. He was a kind master. He used me well. Now I am old. My master gives me very little work. I spend most of my time grazing in the pasture, and leading a quiet, contended life.

Only 5% of the entire "library" floor space is officially designated as a quiet area and this is in a central, solitary 20 square-metre box. The surrounding 95% is as noisy as a busy coffee shop / public park, added to by the screams from the unfiltered children's corner. Staff members are indifferent towards library patrons unless you're one of the many having continual, loud conversations (e.g. gossiping and/or with a large gatherings of friends). When approached, the senior librarian insists the "library" is only meant to provide "a safe and free community service". How is that different to the Westfield Shopping Centre's public corridors (also with public seating and CCTV security)? I've needed to move across three sectors within 2hrs trying to find some quietness for study purposes (and not be stuffed into the pockie, solitary, quiet box). Repeatedly, loud conversations are flowing everywhere and about everything! Aside from the reading and internet resources, it's a complete joke to call this place a "library"! Instead, it's a cheap venue for a kids party (the staff won't mind)!

As much as I appreciate having kids learning programs, it is a library and should remain primarily as a library, not a playground. Having the door wide open to the room where kids events are held daily is ridiculous. Not only that, the ‘quiet area’ is right next to this open door and filled with prams so that no one can use the space for its intended purpose. The design of the layout is otherwise great, but the setup with loud kids singing etc. with wide open doors at peak hours right next to the space people need to learn, read and study in is ludicrous. I can’t underatand what the staff are thinking whilst standing there gormlously ignoring the obvious issue. It becomes an exercise of endurance rather than a place of learning. I agree with other people’s reviews suggesting it should be renamed to a ‘community centre’ and not a library as it gives off false impressions. Before anyone thinks I hate kids...I’m father to a four year old and have personally attended these kids sessions at this location. Having seen it now from a library user perspective, it is simply awful.

I've never felt so unwelcomed in my life. Having lost power due to the recent floods and unable to work from home, I thought to go to this library for a couple of hours. I walk in. Not even greeted, instead questioned over whether I was here to study or conduct business because I was asking to use one of the private rooms for 15 minute meeting. Apparently the meeting rooms are strictly for student purposes, even if there are no students present in the facility. It isn't a quiet library by any means which is why I wanted a meeting room. Yet my reason for being there didn't warrant one.

Pretty big fan of all the Brisbane City Council libraries but this one always has a special place in my heart as I took my son Tommy to rhyme time a lot here. The staff are absolutely delightful and so helpful with the new(?) borrowing technology. Great place to bring young kids as there is something in the hub for all ages - my 18 month old daughter is besotted with the screen on the floor and my son loves the reading nooks. There are always authors, activities or events so make sure you grab a calendar.

I really love the layout of this library. It's super cozy without feeling cramped. The staff are always really nice and helpful. The only problem is that it can be really loud a lot of the time. The quiet space is very close to the kids area and sometimes the staff can be a little bit loud. Other than that it is very inclusive and active. Would recommend for people with young kids, but not for people who are looking for a quiet environment to study or read.

Omg, this is not a library! It's a children's playground. The 'quite space' is right next to the checkouts which is so so noisy and also right next to a meeting room where they have kid story times. What the hell!? Quite space... Yeh right!! Disgraceful and really disrespectful to the rate payers who want to use a library for quite study. Staff don't do anything about the noise. I will never come back here. Go to Mt Gravatt as its a proper library!

LOVE CARINDALE LIBRARY! Its so much bigger than garden city, especially with the new renovation! Much more quieter, and easier to find an empty desk! Meeting rooms are usually vacant, and can be booked easily. Library isn't that busy as well, which is a huge bonus. Makes a great place to study as well. Wifi speed is amazing, as is with any library. Very clean place to be as well! Thank-you librarians!

Not the library's fault but I noticed that a group of carers for special needs people, just bring them into the library and stay in there doing nothing for them, for hours the carers where on their phones while the special needs guys and girls where bored out of their minds, they actually fell asleep and boringly look at their hands, very sad that carers don't take their h Job seriously

Such a great place and thankful staff. I lost my phone there got stuck in one of the seats and no could locate it. One staff found it after 3 weeks and they went into trouble of charging it and then checking last missed calls through notification and called my work phone twice, just to make sure the phone get back to me. I can't tell how much thankful I'm with their honesty.

Great library in terms of location, resources and designated areas. However, just feeling that modern libraries are failing to fulfil the basic need- peace and quiet. The library is fairly noisy! Just wishing for some peace and quiet ... what has happened to the public’s civic mindedness??? All in all, it’s still a great library with great staff.

I had been to the library for long time. With the newly extensions it has a lot more spaces to be able to sit n read n research n just chillax. I am a vegan with diabetes T2. At the moment feeling overwhelmed and trying to get my head around everything. This morning my bloods was 12.3 but still not as high as Sundays 12.9.

One of the best, not too fancy, libraries in Brisbane. I'm a regular visitor and all staff are nice and friendly. Cool, clean and most of the time not too noisy. It has function rooms for public use beside the silent room although most afternoons the silent room is a quiet place to focus on work.

Located under the Carindale shopping centre makes it easy for parents to take their kids down. A huge Children's area which the kids look so happy to use. Not enough of a range of Adult's books but it's cool that they have DVDs! It's a bit stuffy so they need some air circulation...

Great place to catch up with some reading. Nice comfortable place to chill out. Helpful and friendly staff all the time. Big range of reading materials for anyone to indulge and past the time in another dimension. Plenty of comfortable couches to help one to relax.

Library is great. The Makerspace was just a little board room that you do arts and craft in. From the name I was expecting and little set of soldering stations and a communal CNC and 3d printer. Though it could swing by and repair some electronics quick. But no.

It’s a great library with a slick new modern design with a very large range of books. But that’s not all, they have open computers, DVDs, Ebooks, Eaudiobooks and CDs. It is the perfect place to have a peaceful afternoon reading your favourite novel.

I love this sprawling library, especially their Makerspace. In between workshops, my children stay here in their Carindale Kids section. Look at that fake grass and cubicles, prefect for neurodivergent kids. Watch out for grumpy librarians, though.

The staff are fantastic, very friendly and extremely helpful. The library is not huge, yet the range is extensive - with access to over 60,000 items. It's well utilised by students, retired folk, and young families with small children. A

its not that bad. it has a couple of flaws but other than that its good, the books are good, the kids section is good, the computers are good the study areas are good, and the study pods (my favourite part) are great though

First time experienced a staff who was extremely impolite, angry and inpatient, perhaps she was having a bad day or personally having problem to deal with my question.

Nice place for the family or individual to relax and hook into the free unlimited wifi (members only). Limited places to plug in your charger for your phone if needed.

i LOVE this resteursant! i requested a menu and they told me it was a library so i just bourght food in from somehwere and while i read a book! best place ever! 11/10

Library in a big n busy shopping centre. This means it is not quiet, and you cannot spend too much time there because of the 3 hour free parking limit

This library has a great kids section with interactive touchscreens and floor projection, reading zones, and of course LOTS of great books!

I was at the library today and a lovely lady called veronica helped me with my problem she was ever so patient with me she was marvellous

It has meeting rooms free for the public to use with amenities including tea, coffee and dishwasher. Friendly staff and good access.

Plenty of space, not usually full, toilets, drinking fountain, meeting rooms. Convenience as located in mall, close to bus stop.

The library is not too big but it’s awesome. Its located in a perfect location. Quiet and clean. I would come again definitely.
