I am active duty military and was new to the area last July. I found this clinic bc of its proximity to my house. I am very bias when it comes to Vets bc my grandfather was one and there is a high standard of care that I require because simply put, our pets are our children. I brought my sweet 120 pound pup Neko here and I can say from the depths of my soul that Dr. Murphy and his staff are incredible. Doc reads his patients notes when the fur-parents call to schedule appts. He doesn't push unnecessary drugs buying into big pharma. He takes time after your appt to answer any questions you may have. He is gentle and kind to our loved ones. His staff even follows up if you forget to make your follow up appts. My sweet pup had to cross the Rainbow Bridge a few weeks ago. Dr. Murphy and his staff let's us bawl our eyes out, comforted us, and maintained compassionate professionalism the entire time. Doc even sent a hand written sympathy card to us in the mail expressing his condolences. For as long as I remain in DC, (and if Doc doesnt retire), I will be recommending this practice with the highest of endorsements. The next four legged child in my life will have Dr. Murphy as its Vet. Dr. Murphy and his staff are incredible.

Place was quaint and staff was personable, but not transparent with prices (if they ask you to bring in your pets stool, it's $60 for them to run it). The real issue for me was being told by the vet to go to cvs for cat medicine, paying $70 for 14 pills, then checking online for it and finding 30 pills for $10 from ChewyRx. This cat medicine is also for FHV which is basically the most common cat disease, so not sure why the vet didn't have any or didn't know to recommend we go online for a fair price but some delay or cvs for people pharm insane prices but fast turnaround. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the vet recommended cvs for the speed since they care about my cat getting better ASAP, but I still think they should mention the price disparity. I don't mind paying whatever price needs paying for my pet's health, but I do mind paying a lot more for no reason that can easily be avoided... 3/5 - just be ready to pay a lot more than you were told/expecting

The pet care was decent, about what you'd expect. But they were so unbelievably expensive that I will never consider returning here, even though I live right down the street. I took both my cat and dog in for their regular checkups and vaccines only to have them charge me well over 3x the price I paid at my last vet. On top of that, the Vet guilted me into services by "highly recommending" a couple shots and services that I researched later only to find that they were completely elective and not required. At no point did they indicate that their prices would be so obscene until I had waited in the lobby for 15min after my appt and was running so late that I couldn't bear to stick around and complain. This single visit, without anything special cost me nearly $600. They even charged me $5 for cleaning up the (very normal amount of) pet hair after the appointment! If you have ANY concern at all for your checkbook, then you avoid this veterinarian!

This has to be the worst vet in the greater Washington, D.C. area. We've been here twice. Never once have we been comfortable with the level of clarity provided by any member of the staff. People are consistently rude. We're consistently waiting forever on what ends up being service that only takes a moment. Techs are argumentative and make you feel bad for wanting to understand how to take care of your dog. They will do things to your animal without your permission and in a private room where you can't even see what's happening, even for minor operations. You have other veterinary options in the area. Do not choose this one. You can do better. Really sad to see this level of customer service at a place that apparently at one time was well-run given the average review. Would have been zero stars if that was an option. Just appalling.

I previously posted a good review here but after my last appointment I had to change it. The vet was very rude and basically told me my dog needs to be better trained since I am having a hard time getting ear drops in her ear. Yet it took 3 of them to hold her down and get the drops in and he somehow expects me to do it on my own. My dog is well behaved but flushing water in her ears is not pleasant and of course she is going to give some resistance, I mean I would too. She was adopted a few months ago from the shelter and is fully vaccinated yet his staff continues to call asking me to come in and get more vaccinations. The staffing actually really good in my opinion, it's the actual vet who is super rude and clearly just after money.

I would not recommend, the women at the front desk do not know anything about animal care. They only know how to process payments and charge you for invoice bills. I recently bought my new kitten here and the prices were tremendous, His fecal came back for coccidia and they gave him albon. That medicine did not work because it made my poor kitten have access diarrhea and he got so sick and on the 7th day of treatment he unexpectedly passed. The kids were so heart broken and I am so mad,Because before he started that albon he was thriving. I do believe this vet is just out for your money.

If there was a 0 star, I would have chosen that. Very disturbed to hear that this clinic reported an animal transport company to animal control. The transport sought their help with a sick dog, and they were ultimately responsible for the animals being taken by an animal rights group. I would give this some thought for those that are their clients. If they dont like what they see when you bring your pet in for care, you could very well have it taken away from you. I would suggest looking for a new vet immediately.

I can't thank Dr. Murphy enough for the care and concern he exhibited for my failing cat BabyCat. He is so knowledgeable, intuitive, and kind. He looks at your pet as whole - he doesn't treat just one symptom. He takes time to explain things to you. He gives you options and recommendations He is gifted in understanding animals and people. I am truly grateful to him. I highly recommend and can't thank him enough. He's a fantastic vet - the best I've been to, and I've been to many. Thank you again, Dr. Murphy.

We never knew when our animals gonna get sick, well my experience wasn't bad at all, but the price is not bad but you have to ask about how much it would cost for your cat or dog to be seen, you up a deposit down, but you should get a refund back I like the area but the parking it's hard time to find a parking around this area weather it weeks days or weekends the nurse and doctor are nice ❤️ i went back to have my daughter cat get his shots and get bis surgery .everything went well.

I have been a client of Capitol Hill Animal Clinic for many years, going back to when it opened. Compared to other clinics in the city, they do a very thorough and professional job at a very reasonable cost. Dr. Dan Murphy especially is extremely knowledgeable, takes his time with your pet and explains what needs to be done and why. Dr. Muhlbacher is a bit more imperious but is still very competent. The staff are very helpful. Highly recommend.

  • Jonathan Nicholson

Great experience. Professional staff clearly explained what I needed to do/bring for my cat's visit. The pre-visit form is online and simple and visit fee reasonable. Exam was on time and Dr. Murphy unhurriedly explained the possible diagnoses and potential outlooks. Follow up phone call for test results was similarly clear. All in all, very pleasant experience.

  • Jennifer

Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable prices and wait times are not long. They seem to very carefully schedule appointments to minimze the number of possible pet interactions in the waiting area or hall. Procedures and diagnoses are throughly explained in plain language and estimates for recommended follow-up care are provided. Definitely recommend!

Was suspicious when I walked in and saw all kinds of meds for liver issues behind the receptionist's desk; sure enough, when our dog needed his teeth cleaned, he had high liver enzymes and the treatment was a concoction that cost $33 designed to lower his liver enzymes (not to mention what we paid for his blood pla

Been going here for about 6 years now and I love the care that my dogs get. This year, one dog stopped walking suddenly and Dr. Murphy knew exactly what was wrong right away and made sure we went to the proper place for him to get surgery. Not to mention that the front desk ladies are amazing as well.

  • Deborah BS

I got a dog from the New York Avenue Animal Shelter and you get one free two week Healthy Check up and I chosed The Capitol Hill Animal Clinic also especially since my daughter has been there before with her dog and cats. So I would like to recommend it as a friendly safe place to take your pets.

  • Charlotte Lawson

I love the vets and staff at Capitol Hill Animal Clinic! They are always so sweet to my cats, and they always provide us great care. I was nervous about finding a vet who was knowledgeable about feline diabetes when I moved to DC, but I lucked into two right in my neighborhood!

  • Barbara Brereton

Excellent care; Dr. Dan Murphy is experienced and thorough. His diagnosis of a tumor on my dog’s leg was spot on and his surgery to remove the tumor was very successful and I’m sure prolonged her life. I have always found the people there very helpful and accommodating.

  • Cassandra Johnson

The vet here is great, and the staff have always been helpful. I completely trust them with my dog. The only negative is that like a lot of other DC vets, it's not always easy to get an appointment and can take several weeks before they have availability.

  • mrs roselene secrest

We used to bring our two cats to him when we lived in DC (99-2009). He was expeinced, warm & gentle with our cats. We couldn't ask for more. We had tried one in Gaithersburg and one in Rockville, but they were no as experienced nor caring about our pets.

  • Dora Hoyt

The dude actors and staff are so nice and take wonderful care of the animals. I've been bouncing between vets trying to find the best care near home for one chronic sick cat and 2 healthy ones including a kitten. This has been the best care by far!

  • Carsen Daniel

Would not recommend this vet to anyone in DC. Provided 0 clarity or consistency regarding my dog’s health. Genuinely don’t think the staff even likes animals Pluses they didn’t have any of the medicine my dog needed in stock. It’s a no from me

  • Zeus 93

I love this place! I have been taking my 9 month old puppy here since he was 2 months. They are great with my dog knowing exactly who he is without them calling for us. My dog always comes back happy and so that makes me happy. Great place …

  • Jared McGrath

Reliable neighborhood veterinarian for your fur babies. Our cats have mixed reactions coming here but the staff always handle them with care and attention. Reliable service for both routine checkups or unexpected visits. We feel cared for here.

  • Regina Jones

I wish I could give some stars but I can't because, I have been trying to get my cat an appointment. Since she's a new patient they only give Tuesday and Thursdays appointment. Which makes it very inconvenient because of my job.

  • Hector Julio Torres

Dr. Murphy is truly in a class of his own, he is thorough, engaging, and empathetic. He truly takes time to explain clearly about your pets needs and conditions, have been going to him for nearly 20 years! Best in the city!!!

  • Ed Gargurevich

Dr. Murphy and his staff have always provided excellent service to our beloved cats. All it took was one visit to the Capitol Hill Animal Clinic to know they were the right veterinary practice for us.

  • Christine Jachetta

Everyone was friendly, I thought the vet had genuine empathy and sympathy for my dog, and they delivered heart worm medication to my door because they were out at the time. No complaints.

  • Emir Guevara

Great customer service from Dr . Murphy. So pleased. I would highly recommend him to anyone, he went above and beyond to service us as we were traveling through the DC area. Thank you!

  • Arran Haynes

Took me and my cat as a walk-in/mini emergency, very reasonably priced, and I was out on a little over an hour (once the drugs wore off!). Thinking about switching to them full time.

  • Austin Graff

When we got a puppy, our friends recommended this vet in a rowhouse along Pennsylvania Avenue. They were right- we love it! The staff are friendly, efficient and our dog loves them!

  • judi carsrud

I love Dr Murphy, who is thorough, doesn’t condescend, and has taken excellent care of my dog for 10 years - and his friendly, caring and responsive staff are so easy to work with!

  • Racquelle White

This has been my go to vet clinic since I got my kitten from the shelter. I've never been to another vet, so I can't compare. But service is nice and price is reasonable.

  • animal lover Petahater

unethical practice, affiliated with shady "rescue", people should be able to seek help for an animal without having to worry about them being stolen from them.

  • Heather Gray

Staff is nice, vet is experienced, location is convenient. They just seemed desperate for business, making calls every few weeks to set up new appointments.

  • Emmanueli.Coins&Collectables
