"My 13-year old kitty needed dental surgery"
"We are beyond pleased with the amazing compassionate care that we have received at Capital City Vets"
"5 out of 5 isn't a high enough score to reflect the extremely high standard of care provided here"
"Great experience with Dr"
"While the reason for the visit was not a positive one - lump found in our Berner which ended up being an aggressive, uncurrable cancer, so we had to euthanize, the staff was AMAZING! They understood the gravity and difficulty of the situation and were extremely understanding, sympathetic, and accommodating"
My 13-year old kitty needed dental surgery. Suffering from a major case of gum disease, broken teeth, nerve pain and rot. She wouldn't stop rubbing her jaw/mouth, leaving open wounds around her face from constant rubbing. It took us 6 months and 3 vets to finally find Dr. Emma Thom at Bytown Cat Hospital who wasn't afraid to treat her and recommend her for surgery. The previous 2 vets were hesitant to operate due to her age and related pain and skin irritations. We were treated like a number in a machine. She was looked at like a problem child. I wouldn't put my girl in the hands of people who lacked empathy, compassion and confidence in her and her situation. Dr. Emma Thom at Bytown was our third stop. She referred me here to see the Veterinary Dentist, Dr. Graham Thatcher - apparently the best in the city AND HE IS!!! Wow - what a change, a total flip in experience. Our dental consultation was scheduled on the sameday as the surgery which I wholeheartedly appreciated since we went through 2 prior separate dental consults ... plus, the 3rd with Dr. Thom who performed a thorough dental examination, opening her mouth and going through each tooth charting down what she observed - no other vet could get her to remain calm and at ease like Dr. Thom. When arriving on surgery day, Dr Graham Thatcher had consulted our file prior to us arriving, he was ready and totally prepared. He even asked me to call him Graham. He treated little Jazzy girl like a Queen, embraced her with kindness, spoke softly with her, even kissed her on the forehead and hugged her while examining her. He walked me through every single detail of the surgery, line by line of each step in the procedure, with patience and enthusiasm that the surgery would be successful. He promised me he would treat her like she was his own. I started crying in the examination room... and balled in my car. I just wanted her well taken care of - and, I was so touched to find someone that was treating us with care and respect. Graham removed all her teeth and she is now toothless! He scheduled a complimentary 2 week check-up and I am happy to say that she has fully recovered. It's been 5 months since surgery. Jazzy girl is living post-op completely free of stress, nerve pain, swelling, and oral/mouth/teeth issues. She eats just fine, even dry food. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU CAPITAL CITY, THANK YOU GRAHAM for being here in Ottawa. This city NEEDS YOU!!!
We are beyond pleased with the amazing compassionate care that we have received at Capital City Vets. Our beautiful 12 year old German Shepherd Seyna broke her hind leg in early October and our vet at Chapel Hill recommended Capital City vets. We were extremely impressed and cared for immediately by Dr. Alyssa Ziffle and after X-rays, it turned out to be bone cancer that had left her bones so brittle. Dr. Ziffle provided a colourful pink splint to make her comfortable until we made a decision for the next step. Dr. Phil Larose, the orthopaedic specialist who we saw 2 days afterwards was so professional, caring and kind. We decided on surgery, however, Dr. Larose later called and explained to us that her leg was inoperable due to the cancer. Dr. Larose also took the time out of his busy day to speak to our daughter who was quite distraught and really helped her understand the reasoning behind the decision that he couldn’t operate. We subsequently provided Seyna a ton of loving over a period of 3 weeks but soon realized that it was time to say goodbye. On our last visit, we were so pleased and fortunate that Dr. Teagan Smith tended to our moments of saying goodbye to Seyna. She was so kind and empathetic, and made the difficult task much easier. Teagan even followed up later and sent us a hand written note expressing her sympathies. And lastly, we were provided bereavement support by Dr. Michelle Lem. From these 3 amazing vets to the technicians and receptionists, everyone at Capital City provided such exemplary care to our beloved pet and our family. . We will never forget the kindness and compassion that we were shown. What a wonderful team you have at Capital City vets. We have already recommended Capital City vets to other pet owners and we will continue going there with our Black Labrador. Thank you
5 out of 5 isn't a high enough score to reflect the extremely high standard of care provided here. I would recommend Dr. Thatcher and Emma to anyone seeking a highly educated and skilled dental specialty team who they can really trust. I truly believe that Dr. Thatcher cares about his patients and understands how important his role is in the lives of the pets he treats and their loving families. He is extremely knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge. He helped me understand my dogs health concerns allowing me to make informed decisions while advocating for my pets health. Emma is the wonderful, highly-skilled veterinary technician who helped us and is clearly extremely competent, a great communicator and very kind. I have a healthy dog back home with me after our visit for which I am very grateful, and would trust the team with Jax again in the future.
Great experience with Dr. Thatcher! My cat seemed to be experiencing some pain in her mouth, and I wanted to take her to a vet that actually specializes in dentistry. To my understanding, most vets have limited knowledge or speciality training in dentistry so it’s definitely worth any extra costs to take your pet to see a vet that knows what he is doing. Dr. Thatcher is the only vet that my cat had allowed to examine her mouth. He was honest, thorough, caring and the consult was very informative. Thankfully, she didn’t have anything too serious going on, but I will definitely go back to him in the future for any further dental issues that may arise and even for simple dental cleanings. Highly recommend this place for any speciality care or treatment your animal may need. You will feel confident that your animal is being taken care of by the best of the best!
While the reason for the visit was not a positive one - lump found in our Berner which ended up being an aggressive, uncurrable cancer, so we had to euthanize, the staff was AMAZING! They understood the gravity and difficulty of the situation and were extremely understanding, sympathetic, and accommodating. The vet took the time to explain everything in detail, provide us our options, and were extremely supportive of our final decisions - which was made with the dog's comfort in mind, versus us being selfish for more time with a dog that would be suffering. They put our minds at ease that we were making the right decision for our dog and gave us the space and time to say our goodbyes. The empathy and professionalism shown was exemplary and the experience would have been 100x worse without them. Thank you for all you have done! All of the staff were AMAZING!
I was referred to Dr. Liptak for a surgical consult for my dog, River. Dr. Liptak took the time to explain his findings, advise on treatment options, and answer all of my questions. He was very easy to communicate with via phone or email. He was able to properly diagnose her efficiently, and provided me with my dogs test results in a timely manner. Dr. Liptak amputated Rivers leg. River had common post-op complications that he addressed immediately. I would highly recommend this clinic and especially Dr. Liptak and his surgical team, as they are professional, easy to communicate with and provided my dog with outstanding care. I also appreciated how upfront this clinic was about the cost of treatment- it made the process much easier for me. Thank you very much for saving my dog.
Please be aware that this office thinks it is a brilliant idea to mail the final paw and nose ink prints from your pet/ fur clipping out via unregistered mail. Thankfully we paid hundreds of dollars for the crematorium to do a plaster cast of our beloved friend before he was cremated or we would have nothing. We gave every opportunity for management to come up with some idea of compensation for the devastation they caused our family but all we got is a sorry this happened, we'll get back to you and ghosted for weeks. Why they wouldn't just have you pick it up to avoid this situation all together is beyond me. The vet who assisted us putting our friend down was great but this just sours one of our final memories with our sweet boy
I am very disappointed with this hospital. My dog was referred on emergency basis after a mass tumor was found. My wife drove four hours to see them ,had to push for a CT scan and was told my dog needed emergency surgery. CT scan was done Wednesday 3 days after tumor was found by my vet previous Sunday, was sent home to wait for Final CT scan report, my wife had to email to get a response Friday. Only got a consult for Wednesday after. Our dog declined by Sunday and my wife emailed them and was told that's the earliest time slot , our beloved dog suffered and we let him go Tuesday . Where's the emergency services? He was only 4 and a half.
We had a very sad and sick cat and were told he needed all his teeth removed. As humans, we were horrified at the idea. But Dr. Thatcher (and team) were so wonderful, they explained everything clearly, treated our boy so well and did an amazing job with the surgery and the after-care. Dylan (our cat) is a new boy! He is so happy, his litter habits and eating habits have turned around to what they used to be years ago, he has so much more energy and is fully engaged and cuddly again. The decision to do this was a scary one, but it was the right one - especially at Capital City Vets, and especially with Dr. Thatcher and his amazing team.
Today we had the most amazing experience at Capital City Vet. Our dog chipped his tooth and he was able to be seen right away, and got a (same day) specialized dental treatment that allowed our 1 year old husky to save his tooth. Dr. Thatcher and the rest of the team were so kind and helped me and Zeus feel comfortable. Dr. Thatcher also helped me clearly understand the treatment process and explained why this was the best option. I highly recommend this clinic for emergency visits, you can trust that your pet is getting the best care possible. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
Amazing experience and the whole staff is Professional, Knowledgeable, Compassionate and in a word Awesome. They go the extra mile for everything to make sure your Companion/Pet (for us it was our puppy Nalah) is given the best care. Special shout out to Emergency Doctors Dr. Matt and Dr. Georgia as they listened, were patient and took the time to address all concerns. Other Vet Clinics (this place is not a vet clinic but an Emergency Hospital only) should learn and emulate this place for their methods. A++++ and we need more places like this for our little members of our families.
This place is fantastic. I brought my very sick Yorkie, Matty in and everyone from the lovely reception ladies, to the many vet techs (Amanda, Vary names I can remember) to Dr. Amy B., Dr. Jackie, Dr. Schwartz were absolutely amazing. Kind, gentle, professional, open and honest! They truly care and I knew my baby girl was in great hands. Excellent service from start to finish! I wish I knew more names but every single person I came into contact with was simply amazing! Matty and I want to THANK you ALL from the bottom of our hearts. I owe you her life! <3
I am so grateful for the care they gave to my beautiful kitten. She had a broken arm and needed surgery. After taking her to another animal hospital they sent a referral for surgery to here. I received a call in less than 24 hrs and had an appointment for my fur baby to get all fixed up the next day. They were so helpful in informing me of next steps, post operation. The vet that did her surgery was so nice, he did a great job!! Magic will be cuddling with her big sister soon enough. Thank you for taking such good care of our special kitty.
A big thank you to Dr. Kara Magee and her team. Bailey Buttons finished her chemotherapy protocol this week and is in full remission. Yay! Thank you to the kind reception staff, all the assistants and technicians who looked after Bailey and especially Dr. Magee who kept us hopeful even when Bailey did not respond to the initial treatments as we hoped . Dr. Magee did not give up and persistence paid off! We are so happy to have Bailey Buttons feeling better and in our lives for a longer time! From Tracy, Taryn and Bailey Buttons!
It was a harrowing Thursday morning when our pug woke up in excruciating pain, but the tender and expert care we received from Dr. Jackie Pelot in the urgent care department turned what could have been the worst day of our life into a sigh of relief. We couldn't have been more impressed with Dr. Pelot's depth of knowledge and compassion. It is such a relief to have a practice of Capital City's caliber in our region. Thank you to the entire staff and Dr. Pelot for taking such outstanding care of us and our dear boy.
We had to bring our cat meatball in yesterday and got some bad news and unfortunately had to put our guy down. It was a very tough decision to have to make but this clinic made the experience the best it could have been. Our vet Dr. Strong was very knowledgeable and compassionate, we will forever appreciate the care our guy received. Everyone at the clinic from the front desk to the vet tech and vet were all very supportive and kind. I hope you all know how much your kindness matters.
Went here and saw Meredith and Dr. Wu for triage as my kitten hadn't been eating among other issues. We were greeted with smiles that quickly dispelled my anxiety that had been developing for a few days. I felt like I was part of the conversation vs being aggressively directed, which I greatly appreciated. I was also given clear direction with a reaffirming attitude that put me at ease. I thank the hospital and the staff during what to me was, a distressing time.
We were given an appointment for an assessment the same morning we called. It was such a relief to know our dog was finally going to see a vet! Cordial and caring staff. Vet helped us understand the possible causes of our dog’s illness, possible diagnoses, as well as options for treatment. We had great confidence in his advice and our choices. When we had subsequent questions, our calls were answered and messages passed to the vet.
Had an emergency and was turned away from my own vet and Capital Emergency because they were busy. I drove to Eagleson Vet Clinic with a whimpering dog on my car floor where they took his vitals to ensure he could wait for emergency care. Capital does not have enough staff?? Is that the issue?? yet Eagleson Vet Clinic was able to take us as a walk in. Will not recommend Capital as an emergency choice at this time!
Extremely impressed with the customer service and front line staff. I sent an email with a few questions (important to note my dog is not a patient) and I received a response within minutes with a number solutions offered and all my questions clearly answered. I have not brought my dog to be seen yet but based on the quality of customer service I was so impressed I wanted to share.
Amazing veterinary hospital. Brought my cat, Bella, in when she accidentally cut her paw. They were compassionate, transparent and thorough especially after such a scary experience. I hope to never have to visit for an emergency again, but I know if I need to, my pet will receive the best care here. (The little heart on her bandage was put on by the team here, it warmed my heart)
I highly recommend the Capital City veterinary hospital after recently receiving services for my cat. The quality of care and facilities, the staff's love for our animals, and the empathy shown during hard times make this veterinary hospital one of the best in the Ottawa region. Thank you to the staff for a personalized experience during the last moments of our cat's life.
Excellent care. I was able to get my dog in for an emergency visit within a few hours of my call. Dr Wu was wonderful. He explained the whole procedure in detail. All the staff were so caring. My dog can be reactive to other dogs and right away, they set us up in a separate room to make sure he was comfortable. Morgan and I thank you so much for everything :)
Staff were wonderful with our beloved dog's end-of-life care. They were able to fit us in urgently and were thoughtful, sensitive and treated him (and us) with compassion throughout. They subsequently sent us a condolence card, which went above and beyond anything we'd expect. Great staff and in a very nice, new clinic.
I brought my sweet kitty here today after he had hurt his leg and they took such good care of him ! They answered all of my questions and concerns . 10/10 Even thought my cat is in a splint, I know they made him feel all that much better :) The staff also deserves a 10/10 for being so kind
My kitten's eye needed attention and my regular vet was unable to see us, recommending I get to an emergency clinic. Carrot had excellent care, I got clear post-visit instructions, and they followed up with our regular vet. Kitten was purring up a storm for the staff, he felt that comfy.
This vet is fantastic! My cat went here for dental surgery and Dr. Thatcher and staff were beyond wonderful. They cared for my cat as if it was their own. The vet made me feel so comfortable and confident in their care. Im happy to say my cat is now perfectly healthy …
What an absolutely beautiful location this is. Nobody likes to have to visit emergency animal care, but going into this location you feel at ease. The staff was extremely kind and respectful. I would 100% travel across the city to visit this location over others.
Brought dog in for vomiting. Took X-rays and said he had an obstruction and possibly tumour. Wanted to hospitalize him. Brought to own vet and turns out it’s gas. Yes gas. Resolved itself. Spent almost $2k for nothing. Lacked compassion and assistance. Terrible.
If you need urgent care for your pet, this is the place to go. Everyone who works there show such compassion sick pets and their mums and dads who are worried about their fur babies. Thank you so much for taking such great care of our boy Buster!
Had our Chesapeake lab have jaw surgery for a tumour removal. Dr Liptak and his staff were top notch to both us and our pet. First rate service and verbal discussions made sense and understood regarding our dog's s post op care.
Great experience from reception staff to vet care. A lovely receptionist fit my puppy in last minute and Dr Pelot was attentive, kind and knowledgeable. The hospital is modern and spacious. Highly recommended!
I was shocked that a few days later we received ink prints of our deceased dog in the mail …why they didn’t ask us first shows how insensitive they were to my wife’s feelings..
The people here are fantastic. Helped my husky when nowhere else could. Can't recommend them enough. I hope to never have to go back but I'll be glad to go there if need be.
Offering a wide arrange of services and a compassionate team of specialty veterinarians, this is going to be Ottawa's go-to clinic for services. I am sure of it.
I used them for my dog for an emergency and was pleased with their service..they forwarded their report to my normal vet..treatment was great.
Professional, kind people, all of them! The support prior and after procedures is amazing! We appreciate what you do for the community!
Wow , service et personnel extra , ils ont bien pris soin de mon chiot ils ont été génial merci beaucoup …
