Revising from 5 stars to 2. Here's why: My initial experience with cal coast was awesome. The maintenance people are very friendly people and very knowledgeable. I took my bike in for it to be completely worked on since they did an awesome job on my friends bike that he had purchased here. I needed maintenance on my forks, drivetrain and everything else since my bike had gone through hell over the course of the year I owned it. After talking to the maintenance department for a little we found out I needed new front suspension and they showed me my best option. My rear gear set needed to be replaced as well as the chain. I left shortly after, with a quote, and to think if I wanted the suspension or not. The next day I called them and said let's do it. I told them that it's going to be raining so no rush on getting the bike back to me and they gave me a new quote. After about 4 days I get a call to pick up my bike. Feeling excited I went the next day to pick up my bike. I went first thing in the morning and one of the sales guys helped me get my bike. Before I left I asked him if the bike is ready to take straight to the trail and he assured me that it is ready. On my first ride the chain kept slipping on a couple of gears, the chain fell off twice, the front fork wasn't set up for my weight and the lockout doesn't work. I was starting to get frustrated at this point. I had just spent about $550 on maintenance/new parts and this is happening?? I rode home and called them right away. The asked for me to bring the bike back in. I did and explained what was going on. The older gentleman assured me he would take care of the issue. Again I said to take their time since the rain was coming back. About 4-5 days go by and I get the ready call. Again I go back and am very excited to ride again. This time the after getting my bike back I was told my front gear set had a couple of bent teeth. I was thinking to myself that they should've caught that the first time I brought it here. It made me start questioning what exactly they did to my bike. So after about $65 I head back home waiting for a good day to ride. I finally took my bike out and man was I disappointed. The front fork still wasn't set up for my weight and still does not lock out completely. The drivetrain is very noisy and creaky more now than before I brought my bike in. The chain had fallen off a couple more times as well. Something else didn't feel quite right. My cadence gearing was different and I was confused. I was told everything was exactly the same so I wasn't sure why this was different. I got home and checked the rear gears and front gears. The rear ones are all the same. But the front one is different. I lost couple of extra teeth on my 1st and 2nd gear. Going from a 24/34/42 to a 22/32/42. I really do not like this change and I wish I was asked before a change like this was made. I lost some range and it's a bummer. Combine that with the fork issues and drivetrain issues and I would say this maintenance job was not worth over $600 and almost 2 weeks of time. Overall I am very disappointed in the job that was done to my bike. It doesn't feel the same to ride any more. I really shouldn't have to bring in my bike a 3rd time just to get it right. At this point it is looking like I am going to have to learn how to fix these issues by doing some research on YouTube. It would've been nice though if they actually took their time to dial it in for me. Back to where I could actually ride it like I use to. I was considering about buying my next bike here for their maintenance program but now I'm not too sure if I want to.

With how easy it is to shop online or patron numerous other local shops, it’s amazing how hard these ppl work to be rude to and discouraging of customers from spending money at their store. God forbid you ride your bike to a bike shop, and in the absence of a bike rack attempt to lean your bike against the building and temporarily disobey their request to wait at the curb for assistance. If you do, expect a sarcastic man to yell at you through a gate to wait at the curb, and when you say nothing and proceed to leave, they’ll sarcastically thank you for stopping by. It’s really disappointing to see the sport I love more than anything in this world be so misrepresented at its face. Cycling already has enough problems with elitism in the peloton, bikes shops like this are only making it worse. Head .5 miles west and you’ll find ADAMS AVE BIKES. There you may not find the same inventory as had as cal coast, but at least you won’t me meant to feel like a jerk just for shopping there.
Best in the business!! Have dealt with quite a few shops and have never dealt with people as friendly or as thorough. In the midst of the bike shortage, wildfires, and Pandemic, Cal Coast worked with me to get me the exact build I wanted. Even with supply chain delays etc... Aaron made sure to keep me updated over the course of the 6 week order / build time. When picking up the bike, Aaron went above and beyond to make sure that everything was set up perfectly. The bike was DIALED!! (Have also taken my other bike, purchased form them as well, in for their lifetime service with purchase and it came back DIALED). Thank you Aaron and Team!! Keep doing what you're doing! To those who have frustrations with Cal Coast taking the pandemic seriously: REALLY?! Show some respect and understanding for a shop that is trying to keep their employees safe so they can keep doing what they are doing. They are also keeping YOU safe.
I emailed Cal Coast regarding a demo Ripmo AF they had for sale and Aaron emailed me back confirming they still had it. We set up a time for me to come by and he had everything dialed for my height and weight before I got there. Aaron took the time to explain the ins and outs of the bike and answered all of my questions. It is kinda awkward having to wait outside for the staff to come out to you. I understand its due to covid but it with many other stores being back open this seemed odd. Additionally the store is packed full of bikes and gear which is awesome but not really great for browsing. I highly recommend this bike shop to anyone looking for a bike. I will be going back next week to get a bike for my daughter. Do yourself a favor and set up an appointment prior to showing up. It made everything go very smoothly.
I'm a SD Postmates driver and as we all know, in the north Park and Hillcrest type areas, there's not a lot of street parking. So here I am, literally going to the next door neighbor to pick up an order that's already ready, 30 seconds in and out max. And the guy literally chases me down to move my car. They had a completely empty lot. The amount of time he spent chasing me down and talking to me, I would've already been done and moving out of the spot. It wasn't even moving that made me write the review, but the WAY HE SPOKE TO ME. He was by far more rude than any customer I've ever dealt with in any job. I'm glad they are friendly to their customers apparently, but that's an OBVIOUS act to get you to spend money at there shop.
Arron and Charles really took care of me. I originally went to Cal Cost Bikes to look a Santa Cruz Tallboy 29er, and after speaking with Arron he recommended an Ibis Ripmo do to the amount to time he spent riding both bikes. I couldn’t be happy with my purchase and time that Arron spent ensuring the bike was built and tuned for me. I was even able to rent the same bike, which closed the deal because I actually got to ride the bike on trails versus a parking lot. I got to see what the bike was capable of doing. I’ve been Mnt biking for about 20 years and I’ve never had any bike shop employee spend the time that Aaron and Charles did. Hands down this is the best service I’ve received, and I wholeheartedly support and trust them.
Im a new guy to this world of Bicycles. These gentlemen treated me like I was the consummate professional. It simply does not get better than this for excellent customer service and assistance. July of 2018 Went back today, 8-1-2020 to actually purchase the bike Id been saving for. Brought my wife. The female store customer service was so incredibly rude, telling me she couldnt help, wouldnt help and I could come back once Covid was over. I was speechless. My wife said, honey lets go. I left and I will NOT return...Covid-19 does NOT cause such a lack of professionalism, a rude and aggressive customer unfriendly experience. Your business will suffer I am certain because of this kind of nasty response.
Never again. Girlfriend brought her bicycle here for a tune up, got quoted more than the value of her bicycle itself. Found her same exact tires elsewhere for less than half of Cal Coast's price. Installed free (Cal Coast wanted $7 per tire even though we were already paying them a grossly inflated price). Found tubes elsewhere for $2, the same tubes were $8 at Cal Coast. Found her pedals (and better selection) elsewhere for a third of Cal Coast's price. Installed free (guess who wanted to charge for installing pedals). Basically, we found every single exact item elsewhere for so much less that it really shows how much Cal Coast is trying to overcharge their customers. Don't support this.
Had a great customer experience this morning. I showed up with a flat rear tire on the bike I bought at Cal Coast a couple of years ago. Thinking it would take a while to get fixed, I was going to leave the bike and go get a coffee up the street at Dark Horse while it was repaired. To my surprise: - all said and done, my entire visit took ten minutes. The guys dropped what they were doing and repaired it immediately - the repair was free because I had bought the bike with them! Turns out if you buy your bike with them they give you two free flat tire repairs! Was very happy to have my issue taken care of quickly and at no charge.
Horrible customer service. Came in to buy a tool and had to wait in line in the sun. My friend decided to wait in the shade. As I was waiting, one of the employees approached my friend and told him to stand in line like everyone else. My friend explained that he was simply trying to stay out of the sun but the employee demanded that he stand in the sun next to me or get under a tree on the sidewalk. After waiting for 15 minutes and the unprofessional treatment of my friend, I decided to take my business elsewhere and ordered the tool online. I don’t recommend this shop to anyone who cares about good service.
I have purchased 5 bikes (yikes!) over the past 7 years from Cal Coast and I highly recommend them, obviously. Alex, for one, has been extremely helpful in taking care of my bicycle needs for entire bikes, parts, custom wheel builds, etc. The mechanics there are professionals and do great work - thanks Memo! I've been in to a few other shops in San Diego but none compare to the level of customer service you get at Cal Coast. One thing you notice is that there is not the constant turnover in staff that you often see at other bike shops. That says a lot for the way Cal Coast is run.
I came in with a few questions and to pay for a safety inspection of my new Priority Eight belt-driven bike that I purchased online. The service technician was pushing for me to get a tune-up for $70. I ended up spending $10 for my front fender getting installed when all I wanted was a nut, since one was missing from the shipment. "Let me just put that on for you... that'll be $10." I was previously happy to go to this bike shop having spent about $500 over the past few years there. I hope the $10 was worth it. Never again.
Wow what a great bunch of guys there at Cal Coast Bikes!!!! I live out of state and tried to buy a Ibis Ripmo XTR build. Local shop was not very helpful to say the least. I called Ibis to see if I could order direct they referred me to Cal Coast and I'm sure glad they did. These guys are true professionals and enthusiasts. Built my Ripmo very fast with lots of custom touches and lots of communication along the way. I will certainly do business with them again. Thanks to Rudy and Charlie for really coming through J Hanson
This bike shops easy to pass up doesn’t have the most convenient parking depending on the direction you’re coming from but it’s well worth the trip around the block to try again because the staff there are very patient very knowledgeable. The prices are consistent they do have some really good sales sometimes I noticed they started caring Yuba cargo bicycles which are great for families go in there with a smile they’ll return the favor.
Charlie hooked me up with the bike of my dreams, he stood by me listend to what I wanted and the budget I had. I walked out with more of a bike than I ever expected and still within my budget I had planed. There was no pressure and they let me demo the bikes I was interested in before I made my final decision. I would put six stars if they had one laying around Highly recommend cal coast if you love mountain biking like I do.
I bought a bike here. I shopped around and the price I got at Cal Coast Bikes was competitive with other vendors. The nice thing about buying from a local bike shop is that you get free tuneups for the life of the bike and should you have any warranty claims, like your 8 month old bike wheel breaking spokes, they will take care of it. I really like the service here, people are friendly and I never feel taken advantage of.
Found Cal Coast on while searching for bike shops near me. They had great reviews and had a Giant Revolt I wanted to check out in stock. The entire experience was pleasant. Gilbert greeted and helped me the entire time; ensure the bike was set up correctly, went through all adjustments and extras, etc. Could not have asked for a better cycle purchase experience, and will be going to Cal Coast for all my future needs.
Even through social distancing this amazing shop maintained quick, professional, courteous service. Spots in their parking lot were designated for service and sales. They took sanitation seriously. I purchased a Giant Talon 3 and absolutely love it! Recommending this shop to all my friends. Way cheaper than buying online. Bike was tuned up one last time before I took ownership. Can't get that from amazon.
This is the premier San Diego bike shop for mountain bikes. Staff is friendly, honest, and knowledgeable. They're the kind of folks that remember you by name and will give you recommendations on where to ride. I bought a bike here and take advantage of their expert level tune ups and maintenance whenever it needs work. They rent top notch bikes at fair rates too, so get out there and see the super bloom.
I've used many different bike shops in San Diego. Cal Coast was the nearest Ibis dealer to me, but they ended up be totally worth the drive. I love their service. I bought a DV9, and brought in my Santa Cruz 5010 for some upgrades. I drive their because of their service - totally worth it to know it will be done right the first time. I'll be back for my next bike soon (don't tell my wife).
These guys rock! Visiting San Diego, went in to demo a bike for a day, and they not only took an awesome amount of time setting the bike up for me, but then spent a tonne of time giving me awesome trail suggestions. Rad dudes to chat with, and a nice, clean, professional shop. If I lived in San Diego, this would be my LBS! Thanks guys for helping me get an awesome day of riding in! Stoked!
Fantastic bike shop. Never any pressure there, and they put up with my indecisive ass for far too long before I bought from them. They've helped me out on some repairs I've done myself, and I give them my business whenever I need to buy anything, even though I know I can save a few bucks online. Some things are worth having around, and a good neighborhood bike shop is one of those things.
Great bike store with amazing selection of bikes both traditional and electric and a great selection of accessories. I went and bought a really nice helmet. It was less than it was on Amazon. I wanted to go in the store to try things on and support a local bike shop so it's there the next time I want to go. I couldn't have had a better experience great service great prices great products.
One of the worst bicycle stores in the US. Owner called me out my name before realizing I was parking to go into this lame establishment for a new tire to of course support this “small” business. Treat your paying customers with respect!! I think we can read perfectly fine when it says “customer parking only” outside and then to be asked to move our car so rudely was unacceptable.
The BEST experience today!!!! Charlie and Todd were SUPER helpful, gracious and very knowledgable! Thank you for fixing my front derailleur and returning my bike in perfect working order!! Will be back next time my bike’s not feeling well. If you want a friendly atmosphere, great selection and mechanics that know what they’re doing, visit Cal Coast Bicycles!!! Thanks guys!!
Purchased a bike on line from them. Very good communication from Aaron while I was waiting on the bike. The bike arrived in excellent condition, however, there was a small "blemish" on part of the frame. Purely cosmetic, but a bummer nonetheless. They (specifically Aaron) bent over backwards to make things right, and offered a couple of options. Would recommend them.
This place is the real deal neighborhood bike shop. If you want excellent customer service go and ask for Charlie. This guy went above and beyond to help me fix up a kids bike to give away. Additionally, I respect the shop for really taking Covid seriously. Protect customers and protect shop workers, it's the right thing to do. Hats off to Cal Coast Bike shop.
Customer service is good, prices are good could be as low as $500.00 for a bike. Its a particular bike shop so questions on what your looking for will help at the gate. And will have to see about product. There is a wait list that spans 30 + days so order while you can, i got like another week or so. but im sure that go's for the bikes not on show room floor.
Came in trying to buy a bike willing to spend any amount possible. This process could’ve took 5 mins, told me to wait 30 minutes but I waited 45 instead. Employees walked around me and helped others. I’ll take my $1000 plus dollars I was willing to spend and use it some where else. I would not recommend this place for anything.
Best bike shop in San Diego! Friendly customer service that is knowleadgeable, competitive prices, and some of the best brands. Cal Coast mechanics are top notch, and always ready to work on your bike, or simply give you a honest advice. Go check out Cal Coast today, you deserve a bike shop that look out for its customers.
I had a great experience at cal coast I'm a new bike rider sow i had plenty of question. I was at cal coast for and hour asking question they where happing to answer them. Best price on bikes and life time tune up on the bikes. Going back next time i have questions or need a new bike highly recommended this shop
Great bike shop. I purchased 2 road bikes from them and the sales and service was great. I have a mountain bike from a brand they do not carry and they have provided the best service and parts for it than any other shop around San Diego. Even better than the local authorized dealer for my bike brand. Great LBS!
This was my first experience at this shop, and based on that experience, I will always try them first. Andrew went above and beyond to help find a hard-to-find seat post and seat for my son's vintage Haro. I am going back today to get a basket for my daughter's bike. They will be my go-to bike shop.
I've had my bike for about 5 years which I bought at Cal coast and I've never had any issues with anything so far. The whole staff is courteous and funny. I always have a wonderful time when I go there and chill with the boys. What is this thing about tires being overly price. I don't get it!!
Super knowledgeble mechanics, more than reasonable prices, and an easy-going atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorite bike shops in San Diego. If you need any work done to your bike or are looking for a new mountain bike, Cal Coast should be on your short list of shops to check out.
I love this bike shop—very friendly and efficient employees. They tuned and repaired my bike way faster than their original estimate and it’s back to riding perfectly! Thank you to Chase, Charlie, Gilbert and all the unnamed repair technicians in the back! I appreciate all of you!
Searched all over SD for a bike box to send out a newly built bike. Cal Coast came though, didn't charge me either. Everyone that worked there was super nice, and attentive, asking if I needed help while I was waiting. It was packed in there-- a good testament to a great shop.
I bought a brake from these folks and installed it myself. When the fitment wasn't right they still helped me get it sorted even though I didn't pay specifically for their tech's time to do it. Everyone I met was really cool, I'll be doing my bike shopping here forwards.
I was exchanging a bike three days after purchase cause it just wasn't working out for me. Despite the additions to the bike, they helped exchange that bike for another with little hassle. They're pretty good with making sure you get a bike you enjoy riding.
One of the best bike shops I've ever been to. Enjoyed a great demo bike on my trip, tore up some local trails courtesy of some fantastic recommendations by the staff, and will definitely be back. Refreshing to see such a well run, dedicated shop!
Bought and serviced multiple bikes here, just recently brought in my newbie father who was blown away by the friendly and knowledgeable staff! Alex and Brandon thank you both again, got another life long cal coast customer from my family!
Worst experience ever!! The guys lie worse than car salesman, they rip you off, and they're completely unprofessional and rude! One jamoke actually joked about charging me a "5 dollar I-told-you-so fee." Sooo San Diego!
Shoutout to Gilbert! I didn't end up buying anything, but I'm just getting into the cycling world and he was more than helpful in answering a bunch of questions I had and steering me in the right direction. Thanks man!
Horrible experience. Once the guy was done belittling me, he then turned aggressive and patronized me. I’ll never return and it’s a shame because Todd the mechanic is great. Can’t say the same for his coworkers.
Don't waste your time. CalCoast takes advantage of new bike owners. They're greedy and unknowledgeable. Adam's Ave Bike shop or VeloCult are both cheaper and the staff is much more knowledgeable.
While other shops have disappointed me, Cal Coast has been great. Good prices on maintenance and the staff is very helpful/knowledgeable/courteous. I'll continue to be a Cal Coast customer.
They have a great system everybody waits out in the parking area with a mask socially distancing..then Representatives come and help you. They replaced my seat stem no problem. Thank you.
Awesome staff, super helpful. Happened to be riding by and had equipment fail and they fixed it at noon charge. It was just a loose screw and tires needed air but very fast and helpful.
Rude staff member, not a friendly place. Can't blame poor customer service on covid. Will never come back and will make sure to let the community in SD know. From a 10 year mtb rider.
Horrible customer service! They gave me a tentative date to pick up my bike. I called 4 days later for an update and they had an attitude explaining my bike wasn’t priority! Really?!
Not the biggest store but the best about this place is the service. good mechanics, quick and nice hand working on bicycles. Guys and girls doing sales are friendly and helpful.
Quick and friendly service. Order a bimendurong this crazy time was told it be ready first of year when I order it mid December. Got a call its was ready. 5 stars all the way
Nice shop, big, didn't feel claustrophobic. Gilbert was extremely helpful and actually followed up with me like he said he would, something I can't say for every bike shop.
This is the best bike shop in the area hands down.. no cool guys, no weird vibes, just a classic well functioning bike shop with something for everyone. Keep it up folks!!
Took my Ibis Mojo HD3 for tune up, and other services. My bike now looks and feel brand new. Thanks to Todd for outstanding service, as usual. Best shop in San Diego.
The Cal coast guys saved my girlfriend's birthday and my weekend by providing a crucial part at the last minute. Great attitude and awesome service. (Big thanks!!)
Cal Coast is the best bike shop in all of San Diego. Crew is very helpful, good prices, and overall good selection, if you like high end stuff. Definitely a go to.
Everyone at Cal Coast is super friendly and helpful. I have had a positive experience every time I have been in this shop; it is the best bike shop in San Diego!
Great bike shop with knowledgeable staff. They don't over pressure you to buy their bikes or gear. The mechanics are very helpful and know what they're doing.
Good people, products and prices. Always been treated fairly here. In a city with an abundance of jerky bike shops, this place stands apart. Would recommend.
Great service. Very friendly and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong with any of the team there. Had great experiences with both sales and servicing.
Great products, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and good prices. Definitely one of the better places to go for city bikes and mountain bikes.
The entire crew is fabulous, quality bikes, great service and bike mechanics! I have been going here for 10 years and highly recommend them!
Great service and a cool crew. Prices are a bit steep, but they will price match. Only lost one star because their tire selection sucks!
Excellent place to go for anything bicycle related. These guys have treated me great every time I've come in and are extremely helpful.
Great service. Much better than North Park Bikes. Staff is more professional and the selection is better. Great bike shop.
Great shop. No elitest attitude. Very knowledgeable wrenches (bike mechanics). Large selection of demo mountain bikes.
Had a great experience today looking for a bike. The customer service was excellent and very informative. Thank you !
Awesome and warm place to get a bike. They are very knowledgeable and give their own personal tips and tricks.
Excellent shop for the uninitiated bicyclist. Patient and professional staff, willing to answer all questions.
Great staff, professional mechanics that fix things right. Would buy another bike from these guys any day!
Have always had great experiences and service. Thank you most recently to Charlie. ✌ …
