Disastrous......facts below. Booked table and we're put with half our table in the sun. Decide we'll swap seats to spread the discomfort as no other option. Order coffee and they arrive. Lovely coffees. Order breakfast. 3 out of 4 arrive. Wait patiently about 10mins then ask a waiter where it is. Sure sir I'll find out. Then decide to move tables as the one next to us becomes available, out of the sun and get spoken to quite abruptly. Were told it's also booked and "specifically that table". Wow. 4th meal still not there (20 mins) and ask again, twice!!! Everyone else close to finished. I then cancel the meal as don't feel like eating alone and appetite gone. Also happened to a fruit juice order. It also got missed and asked for twice. Waitress finally brings it out and bangs it on the table. Another Wow!! 4th meal arrives 35 mins late even though cancelled. I send it back. Not paying for it now. Too late ..... Owner comes out and apologizes. Tells us he'll take the drinks off the bill as "compensation" and can we please pay for the meals so he can recover some costs at least. Wow again. Pay $9 for a side of bacon making one meal $35? For breakfast here? No way. What food did come out to the others was delicious. I'm hungry and annoyed. You decide. And to reply to the owners comment .... 1. Calling me a liar shows what you think of your customers. 3 of us wrote the review. It isn't wrong. 2. Deflecting our review with a comment on how your food tastes isn't any good IF THE FOOD NEVER COMES TO THE TABLE. 3. If your staff are rude and abrupt, as they were to us, it's a reflection on you and how badly you run your business. 4. "Compensation" never makes up for rude treatment. $10 of true cost in our drinks is all you gave up. Big deal. A true gesture would've been to wipe our bill completely considering how badly we were treated. I'm sure you know how to get it right and do quite often. But accepting you completely stuffed this service up takes a bigger guy than you obviously are. Maybe next time humbly accept your business failed here and move on.

We must've just gone in on an off day. Were pretty disappointed with our experience here. The outlook is nice and the servers were pleasant and I noted that they seemed to get along well (without being distracted from their jobs) which was really good to see. The menu was really creative and piqued my interest straight away. Especially the bare bottom on the front page. Upon receiving our coffees they were quick and tasty. Happy with those. We ordered our food and were waiting a little long considering the place was mostly empty. We received our meals and they were pretty small (considering the price). Once we starting digging into our meals we were very underwhelmed. The taster plate had a single piece of toast, a teeny slice of black sausage and the chicken was cooked like Japanese karaage, definitely not "southern style" as the menu said. Not worth the hefty price tag. The potato hash cakes were equally disappointing, with big lumps of potato with little to no seasoning. The whites in my eggs were also not cooked so I left them to the side. The raw tomatoes were also under-ripe and sour. Threw the whole dish off. There was no cohesiveness to either dish and were generally underwhelming when comparing their descriptions in the menu. Our final disappointment was the bacon. One of the most enticing things when selecting this place was the bacon steaks. I specifically added a ($6) piece of bacon steak to enjoy. Instead, we got 4 pieces of normal streaky bacon. No forewarning, no discount, not even an apology. $6 for your average streaky bacon. Super disappointed. Still debating whether or not to give this place another go. Just generally we don't want to be paying enormous prices for small meals that are just as equally small in flavour. Underwhelming and a bit pretentious.

Blockhouse Cafe is nestled in a charming neighbourhood, offering a quaint and pleasant setting. However, my initial experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, there was a delay in being attended to as the staff seemed preoccupied for about 2 minutes of me standing at the counter before even acknowledging me. The cafe's appearance was not up to par, with a noticeable lack of cleanliness and a disorganized ambiance. The individual preparing my coffee seemed disengaged and didn't provide the expected warm, friendly service characteristic of a barista. Additionally, the lid provided for my drink was unclean. Despite these shortcomings, the cafe's location in this lovely neighbourhood showcases its potential. With attention to customer service, maintaining a cleaner environment and better management overall, Blockhouse Cafe could truly shine and become a standout spot in this charming area.

Great way to start the weekend :) Park run at Chermside and cafe located within 10mins. Staff attentive and friendly. One of the best oat milk coffees I have had in a while. Enjoyed the coffee so much, bought some coffee beans for at home. Plenty of tables that are suitable for dogs. Arrived about 830ish on a Saturday morning and although no wait for a table would recommend booking ahead if possible (lots of reserved tables). No parking outfront at time of brunch however plenty of street parking near by.

Cozy atmosphere with the choice of inside or outside seating, nice decor and good food. A bit expensive but happy to splurge. Very busy on weekends so make a reservation to avoid disappointment. Staff are friendly but service can be a hit or miss. Last time, the waiter got my partner's order wrong (he didn't write anything so I think he just tried to memorise everything) but thankfully the cafe decided to give us a discount and gave free drinks to make up for the mistake. Other times, no issues and happy with the service. Overall, will visit again.

Blockhouse coffee is a fantastic brunch spot that offers a lot of delicious dishes. Their brunch menu looks so gourmet that are sure to satisfy. The menu has vegan/gluten free. Their drink menu is equally impressive, with a wide range of options to choose from. I absolutely love their cold brew chai, as well as the mango smoothie or their refreshing juices like the Flamingo or the healthy Frojo. They also offer traditional coffee options like lattes, flat white as well as specialty choices like cold drip. Wine and beers after 10:30!

If you haven’t been here you are doing yourself a disservice! The food is CRAZY GOOD! They take such care with their menu, cooking, presentation, everything! It’s always heaven on a plate! I swear, this food could cure depression. Their cold brews are insane! The staff are so so so nice and lovely and they always treat you like a friend. It’s just such a lovely atmosphere when you go there. It’s the first place I recommend to people when they come to Brisbane! Seriously, if you’re reading this and you haven’t been here… GO NOW!

The food is very good but quite steep in pricing- don’t expect large portions. I wouldn’t bring your vegan friends here as they’re a bit weird about substituting. The staff are good but come across a bit arrogant.

Not a single vegan option, they did take something off a meal but don’t change the price. It is pretty lame for a popular cafe not to have anything vegan

The food was good. However, service wasn’t. My coffee came very late, almost end of my Brunch and I ordered it as soon as I sat on table. Different staff also came to check up on me and I asked for my coffee everytime. I understand that it would have been busy day for them but at least an apology or acknowledgment of late service would have been nice. Overall, good experience but might go there again.

Great food, good drinks, let down by poor service. Staff seem to have no idea what they were supposed to be doing. We had to constantly go inside and ask for everything. They obviously do not have an experienced manager. Chef was serving us towards the end and he was great! Cushions for hard seats outside would be good. Would definitely eat there again - and hope the service improves.

The perfect day for brunch. Food was amazing. Eggs Benedict was the best I’ve ever had and served with beef cheeks. And yes it tasted as decadent as it sounds. We also order petite waffles, potato cakes and some delicious coffees and juices. I am Coeliac and this place caters perfectly for those with Coeliac. Staff understand and communication with the kitchen is also utilized well. I cannot recommend these guys more. Also they make a mean iced latte. Definitely going to work my way through the menu.

We had such a nice experience here this afternoon. My one year old daughter was restless and the waitress brought out some watermelon for her to snack on which was above and beyond customer service. The building that the cafe itself is in, is lovely! There is nice outdoor seating, on a relatively quiet roadside, there's ramp access to inside and it also has very nice bathroom amenities. FYI for customers, the menu is quite limited from 2.30pm as they have begun their closing procedures.

  • Mitchell Everlyn

Firstly it can get quiet busy so your wait times may be a little higher than normal. If you are going with a group it may be best to reserve a table. It can also be hard to find a car park at times. The food itself was good and provided a unique mix of modern international food. However some dishes may have benefited from a more simplistic design to achieve a greater overall taste. The service as the restraunt was also good.

I visited the blockhouse with my boyfriend on Monday and we enjoyed delicious hash cakes and katsu bene, we had a really good time and the staff was super kind and helpful with our needs, as well as thoughtful and clear when we asked about the gluten free options. I’ll definitely be saving this as a favorite spot for the future!

Good cafe in Nundah. Super popular and always busy, so service can be slow. Delicious food and friendly to customers, though disappointed to hear team members being yelled at recently (Jan 2022). Highly recommend the lamb barbacoa if you want to give them a go. And if you're indecisive the Sampler has a bit of everything.

Love this place. Great outdoor and indoor seating. Not your average breakfast place at all. A hidden gem in Nundah. Each dish is carefully planned and put together by the chefs who bring the food personally to your table. I go there almost every week. My go to for a calm but special breakfast experience. Good prices for outstanding food and atmosphere.

Great place to dine for lunch on a quiet Tuesday. Delicious fusion food selection. The sauce on the duck dish was a little spicy but it is definitely a tingle on your palate to eat more. Chicken and waffle dish combination is very well put together. Although the chicken was deep fried, meat texture was tender and juicy. Recommended!

  • Ady Matt

I can’t rate too highly as they offer basically no vegan options in 2022. I could only get a coffee. They have oat and almond milk but no soy. It was good service and a good atmosphere though. The tables outside are nice. I hope they can start catering for everyone instead of just some people.

Fantastic coffee and different, quirky menu. Staff are friendly. Food is delivered quickly and looks and tastes amazing! They used to have the most scrumptious triple cheese toasty on the menu...absolutely divine. Plus haloumi fries. Hopefully they might bring these back by popular demand! …

Second time we are here. Never disappoint. Wonderful staff and delicious brunch. We had hash cakes bene and duck confit bene. The hash brown is so soft. Melted cheese inside and crunch at the outside. And oh yeah, mimosa start at 10. This is my new place for brunch. Keep up the good work guys.

Perfect brunch experience. Greeted straight away, prompt service for coffee and food and they just do everything right in terms of service that a lot of other places don't. Coffee was amazing and the food awesome as well. Can't wait to come back! Plenty of seating inside and out.

Block House was a brilliant find. Came here for breakfast, will absolutely be coming back. The coffee was perfect—made right and tasted . The hash cakes were incredible. The avocado with popcorn chicken and soft egg was also devine. You all must go to Block House Coffee!

3 years ago, today. Partner and I came back to this cosy atmosphere coffee/bar in Nundah village. If you're into clean eating, this is one of the best place to be. A Portuguese/ Asian fusion of food as it's best. Staff's and service is the best.

Thought we would try out this place. Oh boy were we impressed! Perfect iced latte to start. The menu was amazing very difficult to choose because it all sounded so good! Will mean we shall have to return. The calamari was perfect and tender

  • Thi Ngoc Anh Nguyen

I had doubts when i saw the price ($26 for brunch) but indeed it is worth it. The confit duck with kimchi pancake was excellent, well cooked. It could be sold 50 bucks in a fine dining restaurant easily. Service and setting was good too.

Hidden jewel is how I would describe this place! The menu is great, food is cooked really well, service is nice/friendly and the decor is very tasteful. My personal favourite was the Avocado on Toast with Popcorn Chicken with some yummy

Cute as cafe/bar. Please don’t go here I want to always have a seat. The drip coffee is one of the best I’ve had and is presented in a lab beaker with a nicely weighted glass. Had the lobster sliders that were fresh as.

Came here for lunch on a very quiet Monday. Service is a bit slow and inattentive. Food took a little long to arrive. Food is okay, above average in my opinion. I guess not bad for a neighbourhood cafe.

We had the Portuguese chicken and potato hash cakes with poached egg. The Flamingo juice and latte were fabulous. Definitely recommend! Great service and the chef is always friendly :)

Had an fantastic brunch at Block House. The Chorizo Hash was absolutely delicious and cold-drip coffee smooth. Not the cheapest menu but worth it for the quality and flavour.

  • Brandon Lives

Breakfast is incredible. Had the popcorn chicken and avo on toast, would have again. The coffee was strong and we'll brewed. Great outdoor seating for when it is sunny

Highly recommend this place. Not your traditional breaky menu, a bit of a twist with Asian inspired dishes. The dishes are tasty and the service is fantastic!
