"Great bouldering gym"
"Solid spot for some bouldering! When you walk in, there are 2 massive areas with bouldering walls and tons of options on both sides of the check-in counter"
"Awesome bouldering spot, the only boulder-only place in Phoenix"
"Best bouldering gym! Quality problems for all levels of climbers"
"Love the people, love the workout"
Great bouldering gym. Definitely my favorite in the area, and when my friends come from out of town I take them here. Routes are diverse and interesting and they trade out their routes often. I love their yoga classes (some of them are HARD): schedule is on their website. Very friendly people and staff in general.
Solid spot for some bouldering! When you walk in, there are 2 massive areas with bouldering walls and tons of options on both sides of the check-in counter. Plenty of seating, clean restrooms with showers, and a small workout area with climbing/bouldering specific equipment. Check em out!
Awesome bouldering spot, the only boulder-only place in Phoenix. It is definitely up there with Cali’s top bouldering gyms. Spacious, great gym and locker rooms, friendly staff, pretty awesome place! The prices could be a bit more affordable is my only gripe. But well worth it!
Best bouldering gym! Quality problems for all levels of climbers. Solid fitness/workout and training area (moonboard, crack wall etc), and a wide variety of classes (dynamic fitness, yoga, personal training etc). There's something here for anyone who wants to stay moving!
Love the people, love the workout. A great place to go once a month to mess around with friends or multiple times a week to improve your skills. The vibe isn't bro-y, the routes solid and the employees are competent and kind. I would definitely recommend this gym.
I went indoor rock climbing for the first time, and I’m glad I chose this place. The employees are very friendly and helpful and professional and care about your safety, I had a great time, it’s a fun challenge for your body and your mind! I want to go back
Fantastic spot, great routes, supportive community and helpful staff. Clean well organized facility and amazing array of routes to get, with eager and helpful staff and neighbors jumping in to cheer you on and coach you through the rough patches
I had not climbed in many years and was looking forward to this gym opening because it's all bouldering so you don't need to bring a friend and get hooked up in a harness which can be a little intimidating if you haven't climbed in a while.
Truly excellent place to climb. They do a great job cycling through routes so that there is always new routes to try and to challenge you. I've only done the month membership for 1 month and I'm definitely going to do the yearly membership.
I tried this with a friend who's got a membership - used her buddy pass. It was so fun! But harder than it looks like! A worthwhile challenge, an interesting work-out. Something that gets you out of your shell. Everyone was so friendly and
New to town & checked out black rock first, I don’t do much rope climbing. Went during lunchtime, so I had most of the gym to myself. This made it feel even bigger than it already is. Impressive amount of routes & a fantastic variety. Some
Descent lay out and spread of grades and nice use of terrain. I think it’s a little pricey considering what they offer( boulders and small workout area/training boards). Mediocre setting at best. Grades were very inconsistent and movement
Members only Sunday 10am - 12pm. I made the mistake of going off of the Google page and not their website. Black Rock Gym is clearly the best gym out of the 6 I researched in Phoenix. The gym clearly looks better than Movement, Bouldering
This was an excellent bouldering gym. I haven't been bouldering in years, decades really. The staff here was extremely friendly and helpful. They got me back on the wall in no time and were very helpful. The gym itself is very well setup
Great bouldering gym, and right off the 51 freeway so it's easy to get to. They change up the routes frequently, giving you enough time to dial in the harder ones but not keeping them up for so long that you get bored. The staff is super
The gym is full of energy and a great place to be active with all skill levels. I was new to Bouldering when Black Rock first opened and now am a member as they have no shortage of different workouts to keep me challenging myself. I love
Just dope. Visited for a day and was super happy with the gym on the whole. Boulders had a great ratio of flow/commercial type of movement to comp style (with some str8 BANGERS in there) with generally comfortable positions and hold type
Excellent facility with even better staff. Black rock is an entirely bouldering focused facility with a wide variety of problems that regularly rotate. The setters do a great job setting different styles and the overall rotation schedule
When I initially started going in 2020 this place was nice and clean. I guess now that Covid is in the past they don’t feel the need to clean. There is so much chalk on all the holds that it is hard to get grip on anything.the footholds
This place has become like a second home for me since joining about 3 1/2 months ago. I've been addicted ever since! I took a few lessons from Marcella which were amazing and helped improve my poor technique and in addition she has a
Hands down the best climbing gym in Arizona. Routes are consistently interesting and accurately graded, holds are clean, and the staff is friendly. It’s pretty far from Phoenix, but well worth the drive for a day of climbing that’s
Great bouldering and great people! I randomly decided to try out climbing and made this my first stop. From there, I visited a few others in the Valley and made my way right back to BRBG to sign up for a membership. Friendly staff,
What a gem. Black Rock Bouldering Gym is a great all around facility. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they make newcomers to the sport(like me) feel welcome and at ease. There is a wide variety of walls and plenty of
Love that this gym is all bouldering and has so much space, also includes a little gym area, and friendly staff. A little pricey but comparable for the space. It would be cool if they’d invite setters from AZR to join their team.
The new expansion to the other half of the gym added a lot of great training areas and a lot of cool climbs. The staff is always friendly and helpful. All routes get reset on a cycle and the featured-routes are pretty fun too.
This gym has potential, however I left earlier than I’d like to have given the day pass price. The facility has quite a bit of space for bouldering, unfortunately half of it was closed when I went and they still charged $23.
Enjoy going here weekly! They change out walls frequently so there is always new problems to work. Never gets old! Staff is always nice and inviting. Classes for members are good too as well as the weight training area.
Friendly staff with some very interesting sets at this gym. A large number of sets are ungraded. I understand they do a level of community grading which is good and bad depending on what you are looking for.
The space is nice but still the least favorite gym I've been to. The holds are all dirty and slippery and the routes must be set by someone 7 foot tall. They are either V0 or V5+ with almost no in between.
Out of towner passing through. Great routesetting. Friendly staff and clean. Plenty of space to work a problem without worry about someone falling on you lol. Nice workout area too. Highly recommended!
Truly awesome place to train. The owner and staff are fantastic, as is the entire community who climbs there. You'll find support and encouragement whether its your first time or you crush V10.
Really great place. Many different routes from beginner to very challenging. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. In particular Maikol was fantastic. Will come again when we are in the area.
Absolutely fantastic gym and staff. Bre and Gabe were awesome, gave us a nice introduction and walkthrough of the gym. Helpful, friendly, and super nice. Great problems, A+ rock gym.
Super fun place with 2 sperate rooms devoted to bouldering! Friendly staff. Clean facility. Bathrooms and changing areas inside. Shoe rentals are also available if you need . …
Such an amazing gym! The routes are fun and challenging, the staff are so helpful. They also put on a lot of fun competition that even newer climbers could join and have a blast!
I just recently got into bouldering and this gym rocks. The facility is amazing and the staff are friendly. They've got ameneties other than bouldering like weights and yoga.
Edit: After considering all aspects of the gym and having direct contact with the owner, I decided I was being unfair with my original rating. Overall, the gym and
Friendly staff. Good routs for people of all abilities. Very beginners, intermediate, and advanced climbers can all have an amazing time pushing their own limits.
Excellent climbing gym for everyone. They are always changing the set up and keeping it a fun and challenging experience.
