Knowledgeable mechanic, But! with recent models 2010 & above he knew which oil for replacement & the car was very smooth but didn't feel much difference. With the other car being done the following week "2000 Mitsubishi Mirage 1.5l coupe" after receiving it, it was feeling heavy and sluggish! Same problem happened at each cold start the following two days then I thought that must be the oil he used for it 15W40. So I went back to him & asked him if he'd let me buy another oil & if he'd drain the oil & put my oil & I'll pay him for it. He said it wouldn't make a difference but he's happy to do it for free. I went to Supercheap Auto & bought Valvoline 10W30 semi synthetic oil 5 litre for $45. Returned back to him, his brother in law lifted the car, drained the oil & then put it back down & filled the new oil & he said: is it gonna make any difference. I replied it's less thick & better quality so yes it will. Then he said if you say so. I drove the car home, waited until it became cold then checked the oil & it was 2 cm above the maximum level, although he put exactly three litres. So I used the jack to lift the car, drained about 220 ml of oil and checked again, it was 3ml above the max level on the dip stick. Overall experience is okay, just would like to avoid the hassle. Service costed me $45 extra. I wouldn't mind to pay $140-150 from the beginning but get a decent oil which he doesn't believe in. As he said all oils in Australia are the same. They are all made in Singapore. However I don't know whether he's right or wrong but I know the level of thickness definitely made a difference. For all my next services I'd buy the oil myself regardless of which mechanic that is doing it. In my opinion oil & oil quality are very important for good performance & engine protection. Hope this review helps others make the decision.
