Don’t buy mangoes from this store. They were rotten from the inside although they looked perfectly healthy from the outside. When my husband called to inform the shopkeeper that their mangoes were rotten from the inside and that they should contact their supplier and let them know of this, the shopkeeper didn’t pay any heed and offered no compensation for that $17 loss to us either. A 2.5 kg of Chausa mango box was $17. Please save your hard earned money. Don’t pay your $17 for a rotten box of mangoes. Point to be noted, I think those mangoes were made to ripen by using some chemical because they looked perfectly okay from the outside (light green and yellow color) but each and every mango was rotten from the inside. So I am assuming that the supplier is using some kind of a chemical otherwise it’s okay for 1 or 2 mangoes to be rotten but all of the 7 mangoes had a similar pattern of being rotten.

I live in the area and have entered many of the South Asian groceries in our neighbourhood. I return to this store many times for the various spices and other specialties that they provide. The prices are very good and you can almost always depend on the fact that they will have what you need. If I ask for help, someone will always help me. I recall purchasing a whole chicken there. The quality was very good, but the butcher who handed it to me offered to cut it up for me as well, at no extra cost! The people can be brisk in their manner, however they have always helped me to get what I need. Moreover, I am a white Canadian, born and bred. People often look at me when I enter the store as if I am a fish out of water. However, I am never treated badly or singled out. I always look forward to visiting this shop.

All their meat is $1 per pound more expensive than other halal meat places across GTA. In this ongoing inflation such a massive markup should be unacceptable. In addition, I urge people to not place phone orders because they tend to sell off their most out dated meat first on phone orders. If you don't believe me just visit the meat shop and it gives you a feeling that meat is not kept cool enough because other halal meat places who run their operations properly their meat area is pretty cold temperature wise. Always remember when you work hard to earn each and every dollar, don't compromise on quality and Batala is FAR from quality or service.

I was told about this place by a friend. She been purchasing meat here for years. Apparently, they'll clean and cut-up the chicken. I went on Friday and bought some fresh oxtail which was clean and reasonably priced. I cooked it yesterday and it was delicious. Will I go back....Yes. All the meat is halal and the butchers work together you can see the comradeship. They are friendly and enjoy what they do. Yes I recommend this place.

Big thank you to owner of store Mr Murtaza have a big heart & spread smile melts once heart. This one of the best Pakistani store in Toronto you can find almost everything. All types of groceries,Top of the line fresh Halal Meat & other Halal products. The meat section is clean and very efficient. The meat section staff are very polite and respect customers. Our family was going here for years & we continue to go as well.

Good selection and fair prices here to shop at. Can get your basic items needed along with many specialty products imported from South Asia. Overall quite decent, though quite congested and could use an upgrade/renovation inside and outside, with the parking as well especially which gets quite congested itself. Maybe a move to a better location might make it much more pleasant of a shopping experience at the store.

Nice alternative to Danforth. Lots of desi halal meat, snacks, and fruit options available. They also sell carrom boards of that triggers an interest. I will rate them 4/5 because of the lack of parking spaces. It's very hard to get parking spots during rush time. You might have to park your car at a nearby parking spot and walk to the store. Other than that just a regular desi grocery store you would expect.

i always think why its call the supermarket its not huge store and its stuffy for me and my cart. me? i went hear for the halal meet apartment oxtail. they have the worse prices and make u buy the whole thing if ur buying something. eg: i order oxtail they tell me they cant sell it less i buy the whole thing? the stuff is usually expired, old and not fresh to my liking. not the best place ohh

  • Marium OmJunaid

I go out of my way to come here. Reasonably priced meats. They dont let men who arrived after me at the meat counter to go ahead of me. I feel respected when buying meat and that is often hard to find at a butcher shop, this is the main reason I literally drive 30+ minutes in the opposite direction to buy meat here. Also the produce prices are better than the chinese supermarkets!

  • Tahir Ashraf

I used to buy Pakistani mangoes (chaunsa)from them, I bought a box last week that was not chaunsa I used one mango that was very sour, when I got back to let them know their behaviour was very rude like typical Pakistani shopkeepers.I left the whole box to them so that they can enjoy .Stay away from them look for another fair Pakistani grocery shop those have some ethical values .

  • Ali Shan Alam

Batala has always been a go to for a lot of my friends and family! Pretty small parking lot that's usually full but there is plenty of parking around it. Has a lot of options: Frozen foods, halal meat section, fruits & veggies, etc! Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because they're sometimes the quality of certain items aren't the greatest!

  • Mohammed Fareeduddin Ahmed

Easy and convenient, prices are competitive, infact little lower on some stuff....i van get almost everything. Regarding Meat, you should make sure from where they are taking and what halal certification they have. I take only HMA certified, i am not sure if there meat is HMA certified or not. I like the store, staff is so so so good.

  • Ashfaq Quadri

It's good supermarket for South Asian foods including Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan foods. It's Halal supermarket and it has good meat shop inside where you can get fresh meat and chicken at reasonable prices. Overall it is good supermarket for the Asian community living nearby on Markham - Eglinton neighborhood.

  • Rohith Paturi

Can find almost all Indian and Pakistani groceries and snacks (thumsup, fanta, maza, frooti, kurkure, haldirams etc). Has a meat shop inside. If you are looking for specific sized pieces or pieces for making a certain dish, I'd suggest this place. Prices are reasonable. The place is not so clean. Staff are friendly and helpful.

  • Roger M Sky

Meat section was not fair or honest with the price. They have not displayed the price list about the meat matters. The same meats has been selling different prices with different people. They have not provided equal customer services Please ask the price before purchasing the meats. Also you should check the weight of meat

  • SYED NADEEM AHMAD BUKHARI

Best place for burying HALAL MEAT, CHICKEN, GOAT, LAMB etc. Not only, they carry all kinds of Pakistani & Indian groceries, fresh vegetables, fruits and so on. Their prices are very competitive as compared to other stores. Very conveniently located at the North West corner of Markham Rd. & Eglinton Ave. Iin Scarborough.

  • Imran Khan

Good quality halal meat section being the main reason for most of my visits, rest of the desi groceries available at the location isn't that different from any other decent desi grocery stores in either variety, quality or price (just average). They do have some seasonal fruits and vegetables occasionally though.

  • Azra Saeed

If it weren't for the mangoes and the variety of some stuff not available at my neighborhood store, I wouldn't go here. Not the cleanest store, smells at times, meat section workers are the rudest, owners or whoever sits at cash counters not the friendliest or welcoming. I'd rate them 1 for customer service.

  • usman butt

Awesome mangoes I took yesterday was so delicious love the taste best Pakistani grocery store in Scarborough very convenient and most of things available just so much life easier. Batala customer service is so kind as always smile and take care of clients. Price are reasonable and most items can be found.

  • Faisal s

How can you shop this place. The cashier is very rude not even saying anything like Zombie. You need to bag your own item but they have started my stuff bagging and left it half way when I asked with big attitude point finger to the roof to read the sign. Hahaha....Illetarily people working this place.

  • Mohammad Asif

Very worst service on meat counter. They force to sell whatever they want its their choice not customers. We live very far from store. Twice they sold me Raton meat. First time I couldn't come it went in garbage. I called them but they didn't respond. When I went a month after and complained.

  • Mujtaba Mohammed

Avoid Going to this store, their meet is 1$ expensive from other stores, I bought 16 pounds of meet, when i double check after cleaning it was 3 pound less a loss of 40$ , when i asked they said its cleaning , stay away from this store save money. or rather protect your hard earned money.

  • Wimala Perera

I love to buy non vegie from Batala. Always fresh, clean they really show good dedication towards the customers. As a customer, though I won't get much that I expected such as coliflower, broccoli, and some other Canadian store vegetables. Still I always find tasty Indian fruits.

  • Mohammad Shaikh

I bought a miswak but when I went there and ask the owner/manager about other brands, he replied, in a very rude way and on the top of that he scolded the cashier for not adding the tax in a very bad way. Terrible customer service in the Scarborough.

  • Al D

Just stop the "copy and pasted" apologies to reviewers: Just don't rely. If you cared about the expired products you sell or the employees that treat customers like sub-human vermin you would have already done something about those issues years ago.

  • rao U

Good one. But very cramped. Almost nill parking. Prices are fine. Veggies are fresh which is surprising for desi store. Meat is also ok but freshness cannot be verified though it looks fine. They are frequent sale which is good. Love desi mangoes.

  • Muhammad Ali

Excellent place to get a lot of groceries. The shop is small and a bit cramped but it has everything you want. All Pakistani/indian spices are available. All Pakistani biscuits and candy are also available. Also has a fresh meat butcher in store.

  • F A

Havent had the best experience overall with these guys....sometimes the meat is not so great, other times the yogurt or milk went bad way before the expiry and when i went back to return the yogurt which still had 3/4 of the container

  • Mac Cha

They never greet their customers. I ask for a product and the gentleman at the cash didn't know what to say. Also store needs to be organized. The sweets looks really old. No wonder why there weren't that many customers in the store.

  • SYED GILANI

Very bad service bought Pakistani mangoes from them for about $100 but fir sure not Pakistani mangoes no taste at all and when called them for complain they told all kind of stories not going back to that store for anything anymore

  • Khalid Zafar

  • Laxmi Narayan

I heard about this store from our community but this is not the first time I experienced the anger of the old man at the cashier. They just get irritated by small product related questions we ask. Plus this is

  • ALAPINO

Hanging up on customers asking a simple question was a nice touch. I thought, perhaps it was a bad connection or they dropped the handset. Unfortunately not, they are just as rude to you and others in-person.

  • Steve Baroti

I like this little supermarket, I regularly buy walnuts from this place! I never saw in my life this variety of rice (and at affordable price). The owners are friendly and work so hard - respect & thank you!!

  • JaLaL A.

A “Grocery Heaven” for people, especially from South Asia. They have a variety of products including Pakistani, Indian spices, Herbal Products (Himalaya, Heemani, other Creams/Oils), Fresh Halal Meat etc

  • Ajrun Kabir

Very small grocery store. They are a Pakistani store, but carry all South Asian products. This is the best place for me to get exotic foods that are not available elsewhere. The price is also reasonable.

  • Safura Khatoon

The meat section is awesome here and pricing is very good, and the service is very courteous. Vegetables aren't that fresh but pricing is very competitive. Please like my review if you find it helpful.

  • ITBinbox

Clean and organized. Normally it's hard to keep so much inventory organized and clean from dust but the owner/staff gets the credit for being on top of it. Good variety and reasonably priced Thank you

  • Zeeshawn Khan

It depends on what you're looking for. Packaged items (spice packets, snacks, etc.) are fine. The butcher in the back is good too, but the produce is a coin toss for quality at best.
