Seriously the worst service I had ever received in my life. I really really wanted to like them because their services are very cheap. I would have come back to them for all my repairs if they only been MILDLY rude. I had my car towed to them because my battery died. My dad and I called. We knew which battery needed to be replaced and I even called Autozone to get a quote on a battery since they had it in store near the shop. My dad has gotten a faulty battery from autozone before but they have warranties if you have the receipt. When my dad and I got on the phone to speak to the shop before they started repairs, we asked if they could provide a battery receipt in case it was faulty since they stated they were buying the part through Autozone. They immediately hung up in our face. Not once. Not twice. But THREE times. We weren’t even rude. We just asked for a receipt. The first two times we thought we may have just gotten disconnected. Nope, they were just RUDE. Which was reaffirmed when I came to get my car in person and once more asked for the receipt of parts. They tried to lie and say they didn’t charge me for labor, just parts. But the price quoted for the repair was $100 more than the part itself because one can easily look on Autozone’s site for prices (like cmon, just say you charged for labor. that’s not a big deal). They REFUSED to give me a receipt for the part or even an itemized receipt or labor and parts. Which is shady af. The owner was rude and refused to talk on the phone. The mechanic who I spoke to at the store tried to lie and say that AutoZone doesn’t provide receipts for parts. Idk if it was because I was a woman but they treated me like I was supposed to be completely ignorant about anything regarding cars or just basic business in general. After 25 minutes of straight arguing, I managed to get them to sign a letterhead of their business guaranteeing me a full refund if my battery is faulty. But like, it was a terrible experience and I will NEVER deal with them again. I wouldn’t even trust them to shine the dust off my shoes. They were that bad.

I went to Austin Texas Mechanic because they quoted me the best price to replace my clutch. Immediately on driving away, I thought I could hear a funky sound coming from my engine, but when I brought it back for them to check, the response was "nope, that's normal," which I can assure you is not true, at least not for my car in the years I've been driving it. Over the following month, and starting immediately after this repair, my MPG dropped continuously until it was about 20% lower than where it had been for the previous 3/4 years. Naturally I thought it might be connected to the work this mechanic did, but when I brought it back for them to check, they told me there was nothing wrong, and maybe it was a spark plug issue. It had been a little while since I checked those, so we did and went with a full replacement, which I was charged just under $300 for with no quote ahead of time (ridiculous, when they cost <$5 each and it's work I've done myself with a buddy in the past). It has now been another few weeks, and go figure, my MPG is continuing to drop. I don't know if they messed something up, but now I've paid more than the initial clutch quote from the other mechanic and also my engine's performance is continuing to drop. I'm not one to write reviews, but their most recent response was "go to another mechanic," which is a trash way to handle one's own mess. Toss up; some great experiences, some not so great.

I had a nail in my tire and took it to Austin Texas Mechanic because someone at another shop told me they did tire repair. First impressions, the place is a hot mess. There's cars everywhere, parts everywhere, it's completely disorganized and chaotic. But I thought, "well, if they'll repair my tire, and it's cheap, who cares?" So I sat in the waiting room which is littered with boxes of parts and car batteries on the floor, and waited. When the guy who took my car came to get me, he showed me the nail, which I knew was there. But also a perfectly straight hole on the inside wall of my tire. Straight as if as if it were cut rather than cracked. Now I'm not a mechanic, but I also wasn't born yesterday and I know two things for sure 1) Those tires are less than two years old, and 2) If that hole had been there all along I would've been losing air a lot faster than I was, being that I was driving with the nail in and just adding air about once a week for a month. Conclusion? That guy put a hole in my tire so I would have to buy a new one. The whole.point of going here for a repair was that I can't afford a new tire at the moment. So instead of getting $20 for a repair, and a repeat customer, they got $49, and not another penny from me ever again. Please do yourself a favor, and listen to me and everyone else on here with a negative review of this place, and don't take your car here.

I had the worst experience at this place! I would never recommend this place unless you’re getting your tires done or basic mechanic work. I had a 3” spacer to level my truck in the front and asked if they can do it and Chuy said they could, so they did. I get it back and hop on 183 to realize that my truck didn’t feel safe at all and was bumping up and down uncontrollably, in which I took to another place to get it looked at. They told me that my springs weren’t set right (they were slanted) and that I needed to get it fixed. I go back and chuy said that I needed a smaller spacer to level it KNOWINGLY after doing it already and didn’t even bother to communicate with me prior to install because I wouldn’t of not done it at all. I go back to get it removed and I didn’t even get a refund because of THEIR mistake and lack of communication because they had to do it twice. If you care about you safety and people you trust than definitely this is not the place to go to.

Went for a vehicle inspection on our Subaru Forester. They took a while, and seemed to be having some issues. Finally they came out and said the inspection had failed, and that our check engine light had come on when they hooked up the emissions check. So then we had to frantically make an appointment at the dealer because we were about to leave on a road trip at the end of the weekend. Thankfully Subaru we're able to get us in, and the did the inspection with no problems and said they didn't notice any issues at all. So ultimately at Austin Texas Mechanic it was either a faulty or inconpatible inspection machine or misunderstanding of how to perform the inspection. Which is pretty annoying since I paid for the inspection, even though it was performed incorrectly. On top of that, the lot is very disorganized with a lot of hazardous parts and tools laying out. So overall not impressed: would not visit again.

was quoted $350 for dual exhaust which i agreed to pay. in the end it wasn't true duals but still sounds good. Owner was patient and even agreed to swap the muffler after i stated it wasn't to my expectations. 8/13/19 Update: Even after returning to the shop when I discovered many holes in my exhaust and believing the issues to be corrected, I still have holes where the welding took place. I'm not a welder by any means but I believe this job could have been done better by a blind man. If you see the welder pictured in the images below, do yourself a favor and avoid the shop all together. I've relocated to Michigan where I now have to pay additional cost to fix the horrible welding that took place on my exhaust tubing and muffler. Avoid if at all possible!

I’ve been here three times. One time for an O2 sensor was fine, the other two times the car left worse than when I brought it in. They do quote low prices and work fast, but they don’t diagnose correctly. I brought an Infiniti truck in with a check engine light on a smooth running engine and when they “fixed” the issue the truck stalled on me while leaving. I Spent more money to have them fix the stalling and immediately after driving away the second time the truck was misfiring badly. I never had the truck stall or misfire before and both happened as I left this shop. Last year I also had a Lexus lowered here and they lost my wheel key, and put the car way lower than I asked. I really do not recommend this mechanic, your car will not be treated properly

This place without any doubt, has the least professional staff I’ve ever encountered in my life. Upon my approach, I was nearly hit (literally inches) by a worker who pulled his car onto Lamar, seemingly just for the thrill of spinning his tires and revving the engine. I had assumed it was a customer, but I later saw him return and go into the back for work. I’ve since understood by several neighbors that it is not just common but almost an hourly exhibit by their staff. I should have taken that as a sign of their quality - but that was literally just the start of whirlwind experience with this team. Do - Not - Go - Here!

Don’t bring your vehicle here for anything. I had tires replaced and balanced here recently. They broke a lug nut stud and didn’t tell me. I noticed it when I got home, took it back and they told me they forgot to tell me, then tried to charge me $55 to fix their mistake. And now, since my tires felt a bit out of balance, I brought my truck to Lamb’s to find out my tires weren’t even balanced. In closing: they didn’t tell me they broke a wheel stud, which is dangerous, as in a tire falling off while driving. They also lied about balancing and charged me for it.

They changed my motor then had to do it again I took it back many times to get it fixed and they fixed it until I got a rattle they found the exhaust was sitting on frame after they fixed that the check engine light came on and the said it was the catalytic converter and they wanted to charge me over 800 dollars to fix something that they broke. That and I've had to add water ever day but since they can't find the leak they won't try to fix the problem. For small things it's a good shop but you have to stay on them to get things done.

So on point. I loved everyhing about this shop. I took my 1998 Camaro in for a catalytic converter swap. I had the part already, he switched and welded and did a beautiful job. I called ahead of time for a quote and this place had the best rate in town, by a long shot. The shop felt like it was owned by my uncle or something, not intimidating at all. Both guys talked to me like a person and answered all the questions I had. Super fast, too. Definitely call this place first for a quote. Definitely.

Don't judge a book buy its cover. There are a lot of automotive shops along Lamar I could have chosen. Coming in from Michigan I had a problem with the exhaust on my car. I didn't want to get any up sell you would expect from most places as I just wanted a quick repair to continue my trip and address the real concern when back home. These guys did a fantastic job being super honest and very economical. I only wish I had a shop here at home I could go to. Thanks Austin Muffler and Mechanic

The guys working here are great. I came here for some exhaust issues they gave me some choices but they also listen to what I wanted today they ended up fixing my Cadillac converter issues and I have plans to get back with them and do a complete exhaust system! I will wire ain't no longer more thorough review after I get the exhaust system put in

Don't bother coming here if you're trying to get an exhaust welded. They don't know how to weld and it will have leaks. Yes I have pictures to prove it. Did try to get the issue fixed but the whole exhaust where they cut and welded was leaking. Waste of money. Hopefully this post can save someone the time and money from the mistake I made.

I’ve never been to this place but I just called and got a quote for my Toyota Tundra timing belt. By far best price in town. I also am about to get an Audi and I asked for a oil change price. Defiantly best price by a long shot. Excited to come to these guys!!! I’ll let you know my next review after I see them!! So far so good …

Love love love this place. They are very nice and approachable and have always treated me fairly. One time I got an oil change in like 15 minutes, when the place next door (Lamb’s) actually turned me away even though they weren’t busy and were gonna be open another hour and a half. Needless to say, I’m only going here from now on!

This place is always quick, professional, and affordable. I needed a tire patch so I called around. The place next door to them told me it would take 4 days to get an appointment?!? Where as it took me 15 minutes at this place! Here you will find honest and hard working people providing great service.

Good and fast Mechanic and price is reasonable for repairs. Never says a job is to hard or to small. He does everything from mufflers to tires to bumper to bumper repairs. I recommend every use him. He us friendly as well and will work on the price if it doesnt meet your budet

These guys are awesome! On an early Saturday, they got my Mustang up in no time and changed out the exhaust. Also, they put in 4 caliper covers for me. The service was great, friendly and professional. Chuy and his guys are highly recommended!! I will come back for sure.

These guys did a great job on welding my muffler! Quiet as a mouse! The work was done in 30 minutes they were quick and they even spot welded my muffler to the bracket which I also needed. I will recommend anybody that needs an exhaust job done to them. Thanks guys!

I was desperate for an A/C recharge, and these guys did it so quickly, and for only $45! Everyone was nice, no-nonsense, I was in and out and my car doesn't feel like a death trap. They even filled up a leaking tire for me. I will DEFINITELY go back. Thanks, guys!

Came in because the exhaust system on our truck was giving us a huge problem.. They fixed it (and sold us a spare tire) for a damn good price when nobody else could do it. Some of the best service I've seen, and look forward to coming back to these hard workers.

We were about to head on a long road trip, and couldn't get above 40 mph. Took it in on Sunday, and they were able to change out the ignition coil in 20 minutes or less, so we could get back on our way. A very honest and competent business.

Busy place, but quick service. Had a couple nails in my tires, these guys hopped right on it, pulled out the nails and I was on my way in 20min. They sell mufflers, tires, and do light mechanic repairs.

Been here twice. First time price was fair second time, only 1 weld and no more than 15 minutes of work and charged me 40 dollars. Seemed a bit high for 1 weld but didn't want to haggle.

Pulled in on my spare after 5:00pm with little hope. Left 10 minutes and $50 later on a perfect tire. These guys are on the money. Go out of your way if you have to because they will.

The job was to change front struts and rear shock absorbers. I asked in a few places where they wanted me to leave my truck there and they would eventually get to it and call me.

Changed catalytic converter.. after less than 2 weeks check engine light got back, and they kept postponing me and didn’t want to change it again even though it’s under warranty

Charged me $80 to replace my serpentine belt. A couple of months later I was told by another mechanic it had never been replaced.
