We had made this place “our spot” prior to going to events downtown. The food was always great (still is actually), the jukebox lends as a good time, and the service had always been fun and upbeat. Unfortunately lately we have had several instances of poor service and we understand that can happen because everyone is allowed to have an off day now and again however we were on the receiving end of flat out rude servers and they were borderline mean. Not only were they mean to our table of 6 but threatened to call the police on another patron because she was questioning why other people received food before they did when they had been waiting longer (valid question). Last night, Management had only scheduled one bartender to run the whole restaurant while there was a hockey game in town as well as a special event happening at the Tampa theater. The Knight Parade was also happening in Ybor but not sure of it affected downtown as much. We realized the server was there by herself so being that most of us have been in the service industry we tried to help her clean off 3 different tables as people were leaving. She asked for our drink orders and got us our drinks. When we informed her that we wanted to order food she told us that she was going to go get her pad of paper and a pen. After finishing our 3rd drink over an hour later, she still hadn’t come back to take our order and we had asked her to come over to our table twice. She was also taking food orders of people that had walked in way after we had arrived. So we pointed out that we had wanted to order food and that we were waiting for her to come back with her pen and pad of paper. She responded with “I can’t tell if you’re kidding” in a very sarcastic tone. We explained that we weren’t kidding and that we had been there for over an hour and still hadn’t ordered food. She responded with “I’m the only one here and people are coming up to the bar. We can continue to discuss this or I can take your order.” So we ordered anyways because we wouldn’t have been able to get a table and eat somewhere else at this point before our event. A second server came in at this point to relieve her and she must have informed him that we questioned the slow service. He then took on the same attitude with us that she had. He was also the one responsible for threatening to call the police on a patron that was also questioning the slow service. We eventually had our food DROPPED OFF at our table by said gentleman. He didn’t even let us know what the food was. We had to figure all the orders for ourselves. We had a plate of wings THROWN on our table last night by the female server and when we thanked her, she said “YEP!” Customers are not responsible for poor scheduling by management. Also, the staff needs to understand the words “I’m sorry” can go a long way. We as customers were trying to help her in the beginning and would have continued until we started receiving the attitudes when we did nothing to cause it. Nor did the other patron who was threatened to have the police called on her. She did nothing to deserve that except for ask a question. We will never again go to “ANGRY BAR”. That’s what we now call it.

One of my favorite wing places downtown. I am very sensitive to spicy food, so I get the mild wings and I'm never disappointed! They have great flavor and not too much heat. The other people I've gone with have gotten the hotter versions and they always like them. Their fried mushrooms are really good too. The place is very small with a kind of "dive" feel, and if you go when it's busy, you may not be able to get a table. They have .50 wings on Tuesdays, but you better get there early, because the place gets packed fast. Also they have some of the best happy hour prices around and the drinks are good. The staff is friendly, but the wait for the food can take a while at times, which is why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. The food is always hot and fresh though, and we probably go here once a week, or every other week. I would rank this as one of my top 3 favorite restaurants downtown for the wings, the prices and the friendly staff.

Ok. Where to start. First time here. And most Definitely will not be my last. Bartender was super cool and on it all night and the place was pretty full. Lots of TVs and decent bar spaces for a small spot. Let's talk food though. My gosh. What a stellar menu. Props to the cooks in the back. Had a few different things. Had Wings (Hot Garlic Parm), Flatbread pepperoni pizza, jalapeño poppers (cheddar), and Philly Cheese Eggrolls. Everything was stellar. Top notch bar food with good ingredients. But let me tell you something about the poppers. They were so good. Perfectly made. From ratio to ingredients to the ingredients just staying together. Honestly some of the best poppers I've ever had from an establishment. Top 3 in my book. If not the crown champion. Hell of a spot and a great spot at that.

The third place I went was called the Anchor Bar. No, we are not talking about the one in Buffalo, but the one in the heart of downtown Tampa. Upon sitting down, I ordered 6 hot chicken wings with a side of blue cheese. This being my third wing stop of the day, I was pleasantly surprised to FINALLY have a blue cheese that did not taste like vinegar–while it was not chunky, but rather creamy it was a nice pairing with the wing. With the wing itself, the meat fell right off the bone. The sauce however was not a hot sauce. It was more of a chili sauce than an actual hot sauce. The wing was crispy and definitely #RespectTheCrisp! For this, we give this wing a 7.1 #RespectTheCrisp #TheWingHub Check out the FULL video review and all of our reviews at thewinghub.com @thewinghub on Instagram @thewinghub1 on Facebook

The food was great and the prices were very reasonable. I got the anchor chicken sandwich and fries. I have nothing but great things to say about their food. However, the service was not up to par. When we had got there a server came and grabbed our drinks but then sat and talk to another co-worker for at least 30 and never came to take our orders. Our original server had gone home for the night and the new one had come up to take our orders. She dropped of the food, never came back to ask us if we were enjoying our meal so we never got the chance to ask her for things we still needed. The servers were nice, just not very attentive. Not busy at all for a Saturday night.

The food is standard bar food. I actually went twice today because I was downtown. My first trip I got wings. Although they had good flavor after my 3rd wing I realized they weren’t cooked all the way through. I ate 3 of 10, paid full price for everything and left. Cake back 2 hours later, the bartender was really nice. This time I ordered fries. Ate 3. 2 of the 3 were still raw. So, I go twice in one day. Both times the food was cooked wrong. Not to say it was bad food. The cook just can’t cook obviously. The service is sub par. If you just need a beer in DT I would definitely recommend it. But if you’re not a regular or want food your experience will be extremely disappointing. Cold beer and an ok bartender. Probably won’t be back.

  • Mike Chabot

The wings I ate here were the worst wings I have ever eaten, and I eat a lot of wings. They were fried to a crisp and way over cooked. It sounded like I was eating burnt toast. The hot wings were not hot and lacked flavor. I don’t think the Cajun dry rub wings had any Cajun dry rub on them since I couldn’t taste or see any spices. Their menu is so limited that one would assume the chef would get good at cooking the small selection of food they serve, but that is not the case. The bartender/waiter was inattentive. There was only employee working as both bartender and table waiter. The acoustics in this bar are bad such that you have speak very loudly so that someone sitting right next to you can hear you.

This place for me is one of the best in the city!! When Justin opened this place the city was smaller and different. It was heaven sent as we didn’t have food and bev in one place! Anchor DT has evolved to be to be one of the best places downtown that has food , adult libations, a great juke box and so much fun! From Hilary, Rich, Nick and Eric to the last several years staff of Jose (Jose-B), Eric (OG), Jeona, and Brianna they are all a step above the rest!! The make everyone feel so special!! Thank you guys!!

It was a Wednesday night, was told about the hospitality special so stopped in to check it out. However they require a pay-stub to use the special. I had my work ID, proof of my deposit from my job, and a copy of my current schedule, but I still somehow didn't qualify for the discount. It is a hole in the wall bar with maybe 15 seats in the entire thing. There is only 1 bathroom for everyone so it's a nightmare if you have to pee. You will be asked for spare change from the homeless people posted up outside when you leave. Otherwise, the bartender is nice and the people that work in the area often stop in because it's open late.

  • Jami George

I've been in a few times and the food is really good. I highly recommend the wings. The only issue I have is slow service as I've only been there on later on Friday nights and there is only one bar tender and the cook. If you're not sitting directly at the bar you have to go up to the bar to order food, pick up your food, and get refills because the bartender is generally too busy to come out to the tables. The atmosphere is nice and the service is friendly.

I like how every person saying this is boring bar wwahh wahhhh, if your looking for someone to dangle keys in front of you go to SOHO, anchor bar is a chill laid back bar, in s tiny little hole in a building. Clean, roomy and with a not so Douchy crowd that's a staple here in Trampa. Both Nick and Hillary are great bartenders that keep the good vibes going with cold drinks and great personalities. Music is solid ,with a jukebox ready to roll, the menu is amazing for bar food , I recommend the Philly all the way and the eggroll trio platter.

  • Nicholas Morgan

Very cool, small, cheap low key sort of place with delicious food. Looks like they run all sorts of specials everyday so that's cool as well. The bartender was friendly and the inside was clean. Local brews were $4 so I had a few. The homemade chips with chili and cheese I ordered were fantastic. Perfectly seasoned and oozing with goodness. I can tell the food was made with love and fresh ingredients. Not much more to say about this gem, except stop by when you're in the area for a drink and a bite to eat. You will be glad you did!

  • richard hernandez

Great place I visited in Tampa while I was there for work. Got there late and the kitchen was closed. I think the bartender noticed me looking on my phone for another place for food. He let me know that the fryer was still on and they could make me something out of that. Got me some fries that were on point....no ketchup required...and some very good mozzarella sticks. You gotta love places and people that go out of their way to serve the customer even when they don't really have to. I will be back.

  • Matty

Awesome food and good service. The egg roll sampler was amazing, we also got quesadilla which had way too many green peppers but was still okay. Wings were really good and it was only $1 charge for all flats. Alcohol was fairly priced at 6 for cocktails and service was fast and prompt. It is a small bar and luckily wasn't too busy when we went.. If you're in downtown Tampa it's definitely worth it to check it out.

This is a small bar with a very relaxed, neighborhood feel. This was a stop after a concert and they only had fried food available which was good but average. I think there was only one cook and the bartender was also the server who managed the crowd quite well. I would like to visit again when more food options are available.

Absolutely the worst service I've experienced in a very long time. Guess it's more important to take selfies in the kitchen rather than attend to 4 55+ yrs old Canadians who are known for hospitality! I guess asking for silverware is something that sets them off into a tizzy cause we were pretty much ignored after that. Unfortunate review coming from someone who NEVER reviewed poorly!

Brianna is so amazing, she was the only bartender or waitress that I saw on a Friday evening handling all the customers so that’s really impressive and she suggested picking split/multiple flavors for the wings and that was just the best idea. Anchor tavern’s mild wings are some of the best wings in Tampa!!! The burgers were very good, but a bit dry.

Great atmosphere, great customer service, very friendly place. Been bringing friends here for a while to just show them how cool it looks inside. It doesnt effect my rating at all, but the only thing I would suggest is to pay better attention to cleaning off tables when people leave to avoid people waiting around by the door to sit down. But other than that absolutely no complaints. Best wings ever!

  • Christopher Wyland

Small but cozy. From the outside you wouldn't expect much, but inside is great! They have happy hour from 11-7. About 20 beers on tap, decent menu. The jalapeno poppers were awesome and the burgers were just amazing. The bacon was along the best I've had on a burger. Fits about 20 people comfortably. A few tables and maybe room for a dozen at the bar itself. Several flat screens around the room.

  • Marcos Luevano

Food blew me away, and the staff kept good pace despite all the patrons filling the bar. Overall, I had a pleasant night commandeering the jukebox with my friend and singing obnoxiously even with all that the staff still made it feel homey. 100/10 recommend

As someone originally from Buffalo we had to wander in to see if it's tied to the original anchor bar where the wings got their start. It isn't but the owner is from Buffalo. So, like always I had to try their wings. I always order extra crispy and lots of medium sauce with blu cheese. 95% of places down here don't get the crispy concept but this place does. I will be back.

  • Joshua Sheffield

I travel and try wings everywhere I visit. I tried this place since it was close to our hotel. I got the medium wings, at first the flavor was nothing special. The more I ate the sauce started to grow in me, it was sweet but warm. The bar was small and crowded and it smelled small and crowded. The service was ok, seemed like only one person was working for a full bar.

  • Adam Beck

I brought my out of town friends in last night and wasn’t expecting much from a dive bar, but we had an absolutely amazing experience! From the wings to the drinks to the service we were pleasantly surprised. Brianna was attentive no matter how busy she got and made our experience that much better. We will be back again today for Sunday football. Go bills!!!

Great food, large selection of beer on tap. The food is fantastic! 1/2 pound Angus burgers are cooked to perfection. The cheese sticks are better than your average place. Beer is cold, service is fast and friendly. Next time we'll try the flatbread pizza, they brought one out while we were waiting and... WOW. Highly recommend

I love a good dive bar, and the Anchor definitely fits the bill. Right downtown, but a little piece of ungentrified fun amongst the bank buildings and hotels. The wings are excellent and crispy, nice beer selection, friendly staff and characterful locals.

  • James Bowyer

Had the anchor fries. They were a little spicy for my taste, but no hotter than hot Buffalo so pretty reasonable. Pros: They had food late, typical bar food. There seemed to be a group of regulars who really were chopping it up and seemed friendly enough.
