I tried Aleph for the first time at the vegan night market by the beach. Despite finding hair on the food, I decided not to take it back due to the long lines at every kiosk. I discarded the piece with deep-fried and breaded hair and tried to enjoy the rest of the wrap, which surprisingly tasted quite good. Encouraged by this experience, I eagerly visited the actual restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointment. As a party of 3, we ordered the Jerusalem (multi-course meal for 2) along with a couple of additional dishes based on the waitress's recommendation. Below is a detailed review: Muhammara: 10/10 - This dish had an overall great taste, perfectly infused with walnut. I would definitely order it again. The Silk Road: 7.5/10 - While the flavors were good, the dish lacked overall balance and integration. The Fatoush salad: 6/10 - The dressing was underwhelming and lacked salt. Furthermore, the absence of salt shakers on the table was disappointing. When we asked for salt, we received coarse pickling salt in a dipping dish, which wasn't ideal. Spanish red peppers: 8/10 - The red peppers were perfectly roasted, but the accompanying toast bread seemed stale. The dressing provided a nice sweet and sour contrast. Falafel: 6/10 - The falafel's outer layer was too thick, and the center fell apart easily when trying to cut it. The taste was bland with a bitter aftertaste. Tacos: 6/10 - The taco experience fell short of expectations. It was wet and felt like a deep-fry disaster served on stale pita naan and topped with an overly sweet dressing. Shawarma: 5/10 - This dish was unimpressive. The only saving grace was the hummus, while the rice was undercooked and lacked freshness. The enoki mushrooms were too chewy and poorly marinated. Additionally, the spice level was surprisingly high without any indication on the menu. Shish kebab: 6/10 - This dish was similar to the others and didn't leave a lasting impression. The rice and pita on all dishes gave off the impression of being leftovers forgotten in the fridge for a couple of days, then heated up in the microwave, which was disappointing. The Jerusalem came with baklava, but when we wanted to take it to go, the waitress warned us that it comes with ice cream and offered to switch it to an olive oil cake. However, we were not informed that this switch would replace the baklava entirely, not just the ice cream. This made the decision puzzling since we could have simply opted for the baklava alone. After dining, I ended up feeling strained in my digestive system, so I decided not to try the olive oil cake. Overall, my experience was quite disappointing, and I don't think I'll be returning to Aleph anytime soon. I took the time to write this review as a supporter of plant-based restaurants, and I hope that you can find this feedback constructive in improving the dining experience for your customers.

I have come here with my friend at times and the food is good. But today (Wednesday 16th August) I came in with my friend at 11:10 just 10 minutes after it opened. We ordered two falafels and two coffee tahini smoothies. The total came out to be $66. With the 22% tip I gave which you pay before you get the food. Like what??!! At a resturant?! Plus you have to go up front to place your order. The food was stale and not hot enough. We didn’t say anything as we had good experiences in the past. But when we came back home, we both had stomach cramps. My friend felt serously ill for almost the entire day! I have stomach cramps since the lunch. I have not been able to eat anything without feeling the need to go to the bathroom! Looking back, the price point for the food we ordered was ridiculous. The bowl it came in was almost all salad. If I wanted to order salad I would have ordered it! Just sounds like false advertising as the ingredients for the falafel doesnt say it comes with salad. It should have been specifed!! The falafels didnt have taste to it and the sauce was sour. It just doesnt make sense to charge $16 dollars for two stale balls on a dry 3 day old cold pita bread with a sauce that looks like it should belong in a chemical factory. Not to mention half of the bowl is occupied with salad. Like what is this nonsense?! Overall, the whole experience has left such a sour taste (no pun intended). We wont be considering this place for the future for quite a while. What a dissapointing experience!!

My plant-based Plant Curious deals book brought me here! The food tasted fresh. Their turmeric cauliflower was a standout with the tahini and Aleppo spice. Their portions aren't huge, but end up being filling with the bread/pita and hummus that are included with each bowl. The hummus was also creamy and comforting. It was easy to place an order over the phone, and from what we saw at pick up, the space was clean and inviting. I will say their coupon is misleading in the book as it states "buy 1 bowl or wrap, get 1 small Aleppo Tahini Potatoes free." Instead of providing the potatoes separately like I assumed they would (as a hot mezze), they replaced the pickled red cabbage in the bowl. Only found this out after opening our order having done take out. They could also be a bit more generous with the rice and vegetables (tomatoes, red cabbage). The proteins would really benefit from some light freshness. The pickled cabbage included is not nearly close to the amount pictured in the eatery's online ordering platform. Despite the above, would still recommend for their plant-based options and Middle Eastern flavours.

SOOOOO GOOOOD. First of all, the interior is BEAUTIFUL. Eclectic, colourful and bohemian-chic is how I would describe the décor. Very casual, comfortable and welcoming. This place is strictly vegan/vegetarian, serving up some seriously delicious Middle Eastern flavours. I’m a meat-eater with some slight skepticism when it comes to veganism. However, the flavours and pairings really blew me away. My vegan friend and I shared the Silk Road to start (hummus, labneh, zaatar, date syrup with chimichurri saj bread). The chimichurri saj bread is crack-like addictive. Also, we both agreed that this was the best hummus we’ve ever had. For my main, I opted for the cauliflower bowl (fried cauliflower with tahini, tomato, pink onions, pickled red cabbage). Plenty of flavours and so colourful. My friend had the shawarma bowl (enoki mushrooms, tahini, cucumber pickles, red onion salad, tomato, pickled red cabbage.) I had a taste of the enoki mushrooms and the texture and taste felt like chicken. The service we received from Bryce was tentative and very friendly! We felt well-taken care of. Highly recommend and we would definitely come back!

The place is in a location where there isn't any parking to begin with. However, we've driven past this place a few times and we wanted to check it out since it had good reviews. However, the food was nothing out of the ordinary and the service itself wasn't great. When we got in, we asked to sit on a corner table (for two) but the server said the table was reserved for another group. However, no one ended up coming in the time that we were there. We ordered the benny and shakshuka along with a coffee and tea which was kind of expensive for what it was and ended up getting the hot drinks in paper cups! The server mentioned that they'd ran out of ceramic cups, but everyone else (even patrons who came after us) were given proper cups and tea in a teapot, except us. Considering they charged us $4.50 + $1.50 for coffee and oat milk, and $3.25 for the tea I thought this kind of service was disappointing. I won't be visiting again.

I really wanted to love this place as major vegan foodie. Service was lovely and so was the ambience/aesthetics, but I come to spend money on delicious food, to leave with a stuffed belly, and craving to come back for more. The food was truly not it and we won't be back unfortunately. :( Feedback: Please work on the quality of ingredients in your dishes. Everything was underwhelming or flat out misplaced flavours. We spent $80 between us for the 7 course Jerusalem experience and we felt it was expensive for what we actually received, (Not including drinks) The mint lemonade was soooo sour that I had to water it down with my side water. It actually didn't taste much like mint at all either. I'm genuinely rooting for you guys because there really aren't many Vegan restaurants to choose from in our city. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but I hope you can take this feedback into actionable change. I know you can do better than this! <3

Place has good ambiance during the day but not during the night. I think they do need more light. The food tasted good BUT too much pickled everything! The cabbage was pickled, the pickles were pickled, and the salad has vinaigrette! too much, i wish they kind of restrained a little bit on putting pickled in both dishes we ordered. I can compare the salad to Xsite grill's salad. Fresh and i love the vinaigrette sauce. The meatballs tasted like Donaire fluffles and it's still good. The potato side dish was again very sour. I loved how they caramelized it had had golden brown sides to it. Washroom was ok. Not too clean since people use it but there were flies. T_T There is also a fly going around at our table. No idea how they will deal with that. I will come back here for sure to try it again. I am not sure if it was a fluke but I will give them more stars if they tone down the pickling idea a bit. Not sure if it's a traditional way of cooking Palestinian food, bec they advertise themselves as such.

We went for brunch and it was surprisingly a lovely culinary experience. The service was friendly. We ordered thr silk road which was hummus with date syrup and it came with a generous portion of pitta bread. This dish was good. We ordered the small size. We ordered the falafel benny which was very good. I loved the turmeric hollandaise which was tahini based. This dish came with a generous portion of fatoush salad. The shashuka with scrambled tofu was disappointing and the sauce tasted as if it just came out of a tomato tin. But it did come with a plate of pickles and they were good We also ordered the oat milk date tahini banana smoorthi which my husband loved. I wanted to try the olive oil cake but alas we were stuffed but maybe next time. The falafel benny is a must try. The bill came to approx 60 canadian dollars.

Atmosphere was nice and feels good to eat here. I think I want to come back if the prices were not so high. For example I feel like the beyond meat sausage I could have bought at Costco too for a fraction of the price I got here. Coffee tahini and date smoothie was a very creative drink on their menu, I liked it. The egg substitute tofu scramble was also interesting as a center piece for the shakshouka and worth trying again. The shakshouka tomato base was more basic with just flavours of tomato and cumin though and less interesting to me. I didn’t enjoy all of the pickled sides, they had the same sour flavour throughout and the acidity didn’t strike a balance with the already sour tomato sauce.

Going to Aleph is quite an experience, the place, flavours, the people, the music. The place just feels like home, Cousy, music playing all the time, greens everywhere. The food is wow, I recommend the shawarma rolls, they are stuffed with enoki mushrooms they are incredible and the cauliflower too Carlos gave the best service, definitely it’s one of my favourite vegan restaurants, and don’t forget to order the olive oil cake so rich in flavor. ‍

This was unfortunately a major letdown for me, especially after a lot of hype and anticipation of this joint. I hauled a couple of falafel bowls for lunch. The falafel was incredibly dry, crumbly and therefore tasteless or lacked real exciting flavor. The hummus was dosed in way too much oil I had to avoid as it was drowning, or rather swimming and also made all the packaging leak grease. On top of that, the veggie portion was very salty and lacking volume to the point I could count five or six shards of lettuce per bowl. I'm hoping I just had a one off poor experience but will probably avoid in the future as I have had much better experiences at other joints for better fare.

One of my favourite vegan restaurants for the many years. The flavours are phenomenal, portions are hearty, and food quality has been consistently top-notch. It’s a bustling spot and sometimes it’s harder to get servers’ attention. However, when interacting with the server, it was always pleasant and warming. There has been slowly more menu items added and it’s great to see growth as well.

Excellent vegan Middle Eastern food that isn't appropriate by colonizers! I've had their food via delivery and in the restaurant and have enjoyed it every time. The restaurant is really cute and open and the food is top notch - their hummus and olive oil cake is to die for. My only complaint is that their pita is often quite tough and chewy - it would be nice to have it a bit softer. Otherwise, this is one of my go-to places!

Loved the food, the cauliflower bowl and the falafel bowls were just perfect. The spices used for the cauliflower are amazing, the falafel were slightly crunchy on the outside (but not too much) smooth on the inside. The whole things was balanced by a combination of sides that was making the whole experience just perfect. And it was served with a smile :) 4 stars “only” for the atmosphere which is very modern (including the music): some more traditional touch on the big white wall could help. And maybe from the ceiling as well which is pretty high and all white. But I may be nitpicking!

An excellent vegetarian eatery. We were a group of 7 and the server suggested we try the Jerusalem experience. It was great ! We got several dishes to share, to pass around. Every dish on the menu was on the table. Everything was tasty, well prepared, spiced just right. Each of us praised the food.

Located on Powell St. near Victoria Dr. The interior decor tends to be minimalist. White wall, hanging plants and natural wood for table. Most seats are facing the open kitchen, so you know how hard each and every one works. Service was very good and they always filledup your glass of water. The silk road appetizer was fresh, beautifully presented and flavorful. They gave you single bread which I think is not enough for the amount of appetizer. The tomato soup was served hot and very addictive. Then, we have the taco, again so good. By the time the crispy potatoes arrived we're so full and happy.

Great middle eastern restaurant for whoever is missing the taste of home after turning vegan/vegetarian. I haven’t had shawarma in years and I was able to have a vegan shawarma wrap at Aleph. I ordered it in a wrap and my friend ordered it in a bowl. The wrap was tastier because the flavors were all in one bite. Both came with sodes of fatoush which was decent but lacking of salt and olive oil in my opinion. The menu could use some updating to have more options but it was a great experience!

What a hidden gem! Loved my first visit here. Very friendly service. Nice relaxing ambiance. And the food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐SO SO GOOD. I had the falafel benedict and pancakes from the brunch menu. The falafel benedict was filled with so many delicious flavours. And the pancakes were the best vegan pancakes I've had in a long, long time - I can't say enough good things about them. The staff were so friendly, warm and welcoming. The owner was in the open kitchen cooking and preparing food and you can tell he takes great pride in his eatery. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great service, great food... I have been enjoying take out from Aleph since last year but recently dined in for brunch and had a wonderful experience. The server was so kind and attentive (we were a large party) and the food was excellent. I especially loved the coffee with cardamom and served with dates to sweeten. My only disappointment was that I came too early to enjoy the dinner specials, but I'll just have to come back another time.

Wonderful food from Palestine, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iran. An amazing mix of flavours and all vegetarian! The staff were incredibly hospitable. The booking app malfunctioned and allowed us to book a table even though they were already full. They were incredibly apologetic even though the wait was only 15 mins. They gave us complementary drinks and an appetizer while we waited to apologize, which was very kind. A beautiful and cozy space. Will definitely eat there again.

Came in here for a quick bite after walking by it dozens of times. It was a tiny little spot, perfect for catch up sessions or a date where you can actually hear each other talk. The food was fresh and delicious. My favourite was the Shwarma Potstickers, which is mushrooms rolled in dumpling wrappers served with a garlic aioli. The Tahini Potatoes were out of this world as well. They were very flavourful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy low key evening and would absolutely go back!

I stopped here for a quick bite. The place is small and cosy. With a lot of nice plants. The waitress was friendly and polite. We ordered a hummus to share and a lentils soup. Good vibes and relaxing cafe with a lot of hanging plants, soothing music and very friendly staff. It is a Vegan restaurant with very good food options. We started with an Arabican coffee which comes with optional oatmilk and maple syrup. Adding both was surprisingly good. We also had Banana Tahini smoothie. For mains we had Falafel Benny which comes on top of pita bread smothered with Zatar and a side of salad and Shakshuka. The food was delicious and so were the beverage.

  • Michael Drabenstott

Outstanding! I was optimistic the moment we stepped into the restaurant and saw Ottolenghi's Jerusalem cookbook in the foyer. The food prep and creativity reminded me of Ottolenghi in the best way possible. Lots of color and texture and loads of flavor in Middle Eastern style. Might have been the smoothest hummus I've had in my entire life. If vegan food was this good everywhere, people would definitely eat less meat.

Really cute room and location with plenty of free street parking available. Our server was very nice, but really busy. Food came quickly, but I had to keep asking for water. I didn’t like their take on baklava though; the coconut cream was nice but the base wasn’t.

Our family a group of 6 went to this restaurant on Father’s Day for brunch, and we were impressed with their food, service, everything! You can see their waitress are working hard and they really care, mine forgot something and she came to apologize to me which was very sweet and kind of her. The only thing I want to point out is that they only have 1 bathroom for everyone, employees, and customers, so we had to wait and take turns to go to restroom.

Overall fantastic experience. The food and service were wonderful. Clean flavors that are complex and executed very well. Excellent usage of ingredients, and nothing seemed like it shouldn't be there. Well done. The decor matched the food well and we loved the side-by-side seats that seemed to go well with the concept of bringing people together. We'll come back for sure and tell friends. What a great place! The hummus was out of this world. I'd like to know what olive oil they use; it was fantastic. I had the shish kebab; it was very filling. The pita was as bit on the meh side. Nice, comfortable, simple atmosphere, very good service. Can't wait to take friends and family there.

I feel like Uber eats somehow creates a “wish” version of food through their app. We got the falafel bowl & With all the rave reviews I expected good things. Everything was extremely bland. Nothing seemed fresh; falafels texture was like they were cooked 18 hours ago and the g/f breads tasted days old & dipped in oil. If your gonna try it don’t order through Uber eats, I’m sure the food experience is better eaten in.

Wowowowow. Was pleasantly surprised by this place! Didn’t know anything before going aside from the good reviews on here, and they are merited! One of the most slept on spots in the city. Now, the food was amazing, we loved everything we had but the Aleppo Tahini potatoes we couldn’t get enough of. Would recommend 10/10 and we can’t wait to come back and try some more yummy dishes!

The food was amazing. A group of us shared a selection of dishes and all of them were delicious. The service was excellent and very helpful.

I ordered on skip the dishes. I got the Donair and salad platter and my "salad" included beets, onions and tabouli. The tabouli was literally JUST parsley and there was enough of the salad for maybe 4/5 bites. I also asked for extra sauce and they didn't even give me enough sauce to cover even a few bites of the rice. Expensive and the skimp on ingredients.

Amazing Middle Eastern food with incredible service! Highly highly recommend the Shish kebab bowl. Garlic sauce was supreme ♥️

A small vegan restaurant along that little elevated restaurant stripe on Powell - good for share plates. Small menu. You could order the majority of the dinner menu with a group of 4-5 Reasonably priced. Worth a visit

Talk about one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I’d never had a middle eastern brunch. So happy this was the first place I had it. The taste of every dish blew me away. Get the Arabic coffee it’s subtle and strong and comes with a date. You can’t go wrong here. I’d say anyone visiting or living in Vancouver should run to this place ASAP.

Been Vegan for 2 years, I've missed having fluffy delicious Pancakes, but NO MORE! Never have I had such delicious pancakes in my entire life! They were served by a humble and friendly staff to boot! Keenan, the chef, even let us take a picture with him! The Shish Kebob Bowl was amazing as well! Perfect food, lots of flavor! More

I was walking by this place and a delicious garlicky smell was coming out of the door, so I had to try. I loved their falafel, and the Olive Oil Cake is a must try, indeed! (The photo is not great, but I had to give them a good review, it’s so good!)

I arrived at 11:30am and there was only one other party. It's a beautiful space with lots of natural light. Free street parking was a big win for me. The food was spectacular! Aleph has the best falafel I've ever had. Highly recommend this spot!

YUM! Came here with friends and split the vegan dishes family style. There was not a single dish that came that was not enjoyed by all. The dips, cauliflower, potatoes, falafel was all so good. Super friendly service too! It’s a smaller, more cozy intimate space, good date night spot. Would recommend and would return!

First time coming. My husband goes whenever he is in the area. Best Middle Eastern I’ve had. The flavours are fresh and bright and perfectly paired. Even came with a gf pita. Highly recommend. Delicious.

Woof! If you care about authentic Levant food, look elsewhere. If you're satisfying your own image consciousness and buying into social justice capitalism, this place is for you. With family from various ME countries, I've been spoiled for good food. This aint it.

Love the ambience and decor of this spot! Usually it’s hard to find delicious mediterranean food in Vancouver but we had an amazing flatbread and hummous entree for brunch.. toasted cheese sandwich was slightly heavy but everything else was spot on. Will definitely be back to try the dinner menu.

  • Michelle Baysan

Next level amazing. Greatest meal I've had in Vancouver. A cacophony of flavors and textures. Every bite elicited an "mmmmm". The Mezze Platter will bring me back again and again. If you've traveled the near east, this place will transport you back to Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon. Simply phenomenal.

The quality of the food and the recipes are quite good. The service is very good, prices are good. My concerns are the seating is a little uncomfortable and the salt content in a few of their dishes is quite high. I really enjoyed the pomegranate mint lemonade and their appetizers.

  • Jackie Cheung

I tried Aleph for the first time today. I just grabbed the falafal and the muhammara (red pepper dip), both were amazing. So flavorful, moist, and sizeable portions. I would highly recommend. Next time, dine in for me! Thank you Aleph!

Delicious! Driven past this place countless times and didn’t know it was there. Went for wife’s birthday and was amazed. Great food and good service. Glad we had a reservation as it was busy. Highly recommend the Shwarma Wraps and Brussels sprouts they were amazing.

Wowwwwwww! There are no words to describe how good the food was. My girlfriend and I could not stop nodding after each bite. Palestinian food with inspiration from all around the Middle East and a bit from India. Beautiful laid back atmosphere and amazing service.

Delicious vegan middle eastern food in a clean, cozy, beautiful space. The neighborhood is unassuming but the food is amazing. The photo is from brunch (falafel Benny & cauliflower bowl) but their lunch/dinner is equally fantastic.

I’ve eaten here twice now and haven’t been very impressed. I ordered takeout today and the falafel was dry, pita was tough, and there was way too much sauce on the potatoes. Flavours seemed off :s

Wonderful food, service and cocktails. Had three excellent dishes with the cauliflower, crispy potatoes and kibbeh, and started with the muhammara which was also super fresh and tasty.

Nice cozy spot. Great dishes we had to share. The yogurt pasta was great. Watch out for parking around the area if you go during rush hour. You'll have to park off that street.

Absolutely delicious food! Beautiful drinks too...we had the Silk Road to start, and I had the shakshuka for my main. Not the hugest portions ever, but wonderful flavours.
