If you're having trouble finding it: look at the satellite view (attached) to see where the driveway exits to the (unnamed, as of this writing) road. I only saw street signs very close by. If you enter Sakura Residence as your destination it should be OK. Note the map (as of this writing) is wrong as that road does not connect on the west to the bigger road. Actually I had never heard of U Thant before my trip so the museum was decently informative about a very important man in Cold War politics. Fascinating to read the correspondence among US, USSR, Cuban diplomats & U Thant surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis. There's not much else to see besides a relaxing humble estate. But there are plans to expand a bit; as I understand the museum is quite new and only just now exploring its trajectory/home in Yangon's cultural tapestry.

It was one of the highlights of my stay 2020 in Burma to visit the „U Thant - House“, Yangon, in the company of his grandson, Thant Myint U, the famous author of many most important book about Burma: e.g. „The Hidden History of Burma“ is a must-read! I was especially thrilled that the Burmese people can now identify with another Burmese hero, U Thant, the 3rd UNO- General secretary, having mastered diplomatically - peacefully a world threatening crisis between USA & UdSSR, called the Cuba-crisis! He stands as an example for the future of Burma: a country striving for peace, identity & stability through a government offering unity and democracy!

Best museum I’ve seen in Rangoon. Well designed spaces with good information. The internal transcripts on the Cuban Missile Crisis were particularly interesting. The girl on duty was very knowledgeable about U Thant and explained the photos well. I also enjoyed talking to her about Yangon University, where she’s currently taking her Masters at. Would have loved to chat with her more but was pretty much chased off by rampant mosquitoes, especially in the garden. If you’re walking to this house using Gmaps, don’t walk in from the U Wisara main road like I did! You gotta come in via Chindwin Road from Inya Road instead.

This building was once home to U Thant, a Burmese Diplomat who served 2 terms in the UN during the 1960s. His grandson came back from the US and restored this building to a museum, in memory of his grandfather. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, the place was serene and tranquil. One of the best museums I've seen in Yangon, all exhibits have English explanation and you are free to move around and touch most exhibits, though I would caution visitors to handle them with respect. Best to get a taxi here, it's nowhere near any bus stops and like some of the reviewers have mentioned, enter via Inya Road

U Thant House is a really beautiful place. It has lots of original items that belonged to U Thant. His home office looks like if he just left for a break in the middle of a working day. And there is one item that is really special: a small UN Flag that travelled to the Moon! It was given to U Thant by the members of Apollo 15 crew in 1971 (see the picture below). Definitely worth visiting!

Some care has actually been put into keeping this place looking good and it shows. There is a very nice and helpful lady who can answer any questions and assist you while there. There aren't a lot of artifacts left over from his time living here; but there are a lot of good photographs that showcase his broad influence and dealings with world leaders during his tenure as Secretary-General.

Former UN secretary general, U Thant, stayed this house before he worked for UN. The exhibition in the house shows his life and how he worked hard for the peace of the world. There is small room to watch videos and many panels to explain his life. The house had been renovated recently so not many furniture can be seen as he stayed, but it's clean nice place to visit.

A lovely colonial house and inspiring homage to a peacemaking genius who helped save the world from destruction in the '60s (you'll see). Note that Google Maps does not show the road (as Feb 2017). It is a lane with a dead end which branches off Inya Road, just north of Sakura Residence. You will see the signs from there. Entry is free, but a donation is merited.

The house where U Thant, first Asian Secretary General of UN, had lived & worked as assistant to premier U Nu. Now a historical exhibition open to piblic. I met Thant Myint-U, his grandson, & author of the River of the Lost Footsteps, which I translated into Korean, & chatted abt his newest book, thr Hidden History of Burma

Historical Place and the best place to learn about U Thant, Former Leader of UN in both of Myanmar and English. Normally it's free of charge to learn at there. Once I hold an tour for one of our event, the staff there kindly guide us around and explained the history. I love to learn Myanmar language in this place as well.

This memorial British colonial building was discovered and opened in 2015 after the realisation of democracy. The museum offers a few exhibition but very informative description with photos and atmosphere. Make sure you access from the INYA road because the Google map is not yet accurately taking you there.

U Thant extraordinary life is showcased in his former residence turned museum. Well documented and restored house with garden is pleasing. Staff on site to greet and suggest donation. An hour is all you need, do note the opening days. Visit if you are near the area or include it with Shwedagon Pagoda trip.

It is government-owned but was abandoned until 2015. U Thant's grandson, Thant Myint-U led to revonnate it into a tourist attraction. Always good to know about some history of UN during the Cold War era. There is a parking sign before the …
