Honestly if I could give this rental company negative stars, I would. They were extremely unprofessional and rude on the phone. We received a charge of almost $300 dollars without receiving an invoice on why. After calling multiple times with no answer we spoke with the manager that called my wife and I liars complaining that the car had ash and was excessively dirty. We explained that we get drug tested for our jobs and did not smoke in the vehicle. The vehicle was dropped off after hours at a lot they I assume partner with. The keys were handed over and the car was not in our care for hours before they then received the car. We’re being held responsible when hours went by that are uncalled for. We asked for proof where we were sent photos time stamped almost 10 hours after we dropped the car off that had a picture of a long strand of grass and that’s it. We also asked for proof of video footage from the garage so we knew if anyone else was in the car after us and have not received that. This is very frustrating and honestly disheartening to sit and be accused without any help or remorse for the situation we are in. The manager was very accusatory and refused to help because he simply does not believe my wife and I. He even went as far as threatening us so that we could never rent another car in San Diego again. This man has ruined our trip and view on San Diego and clearly does not care about his clients. Given that we experienced multiple homophobic situations while visiting San Diego, I’m praying this was not another one. It was such an egregious charge to begin with on top of the fact that it was not caused by my wife and I. I’m still in shock by the behavior that the manger just exhibited. I truly hope if others venture to this unprofessional facility they have better luck than we did. Good luck.

So, yes, they are off-site. All the rental cat places require at least 1 shuttle to the rental car station. Many (about half) require a second shuttle to the actual location. At the time, their shuttle was down, but they reimbursed the taxi ride to their location. On the return trip, they share with a parking garage, and it's a direct shuttle to the airport, so no having to go through the substation. Yeah, the building (neighbood) looks a bit sketchy, but it's the area around the airport-not exactly the high rent district. Their customer service was outstanding, Jennie in the office was very accommodating both on the phone and in person (I had called because I booked the wrong pick up date initially) you can actually speak to a human at the location (try that with Avis). She remembered me when I arrived. Knew my reservation details just by my phone number as well when I called, so very easy. And the clincher was a very new, small SUV for $14 a day, vs econobox subcompacts starting at $70/day everywhere else. They were far and away the cheapest around and the car was perfect. I rolled the dice with the surprise car option, and as I said, got an SUV. But even had it been a small car, still the cheapest around by a long shot. So, is it the fanciest outfit? No. But if you're looking for a perfectly good (like new condition) car at a reasonable price, with actual customer service, then this is your place.

The experience overall was great! I would rate it a 4.5 and the reason for taking off 1/2 a star was the wait time when picking up the vehicle was maybe 45 min. In their defense Jenny was the only one working because someone else called out (according to her) and there were 6 people ahead of me. All these other negative reviews are pretty much BS from people who don’t read their terms and policies and get mad when it’s different than other places. You do need written proof of insurance to decline theirs but you can pull it up on your phone. Their location is not “miles” away from the rental hub like one reviewer said. It is literally 0.8 of a mile from it and they do reimburse for a cab to get there. Their neighbor business has a shuttle to the airport after car drop off but unfortunately nothing for pick up yet, although Jenny said they are working on it. Their cars were fairly new and well taken care of. I was lucky and received a brand new 2023 car with 12 miles on it. Overall for the price paid, you can’t beat it! The very mild inconvenience of it being away from the rental hub and having to provide proof of insurance is not worth it to pay more money elsewhere.

DO NOT USE THIS PLACE! This is the most illegitimate, rude, scandalous, unethical rental company I’ve ever used. To start, they’re a mile from the airport rental car facility in their own run down building with no clear signs on where their office is. They wait until you’re there to tell you there’s no driving out of state, not even to nearby bordering states. Their deposit they hold is double what most legitimate companies are. I had their car for literally an hour only to realize it had no spare tire, needed washer fluid, and had trash in multiple compartments. I immediately called them and told them I was just returning it and renting elsewhere. I even stopped and filled it with gas. Jenny at the counter demanded that I pay for a 1 day rental, questioned my findings with the car and was generally rude despite me insisting I shouldn’t be paying anything given the situation. So I left there with an invoice for a one day rental at over double the daily rate my original contract was per day just got driving the car home and back. RIDICULOUS and UNETHICAL

DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!!! Sam Diego location. First they have an offsite location. When calling for instructions we got a message giving another phone number. Very inconvenient to not have an electronic email link. Then there is no airport shuttle. We had to take a cab, and we told, by a man with the unpronounceable name who barely spoke English that the cost would be rebated. When we arrived the clerk did not like that we were refusing their offered insurance. It was not enough that my credit card carried. coverage. And when told that my AAA personal insurance covered any car I drove, he demanded policy numbers and details. Seriously? In 45 years of renting cars I’ve never been asked for this. Who Carrie’s their personal car insurance policy number on vacatio? No one. A clear scam to force us to buy their insurance. Left without a car rather than pay this TOTAL SCAM. This place should be shut down. We felt like we were trying to get a car in some third world bazaar full of thieves. DO NOT RENT HERE

Upon reading the reviews, some of them are valid in a sense. They aren’t connected to the actual airport so you do have to take a Uber however they gladly took the charge for the Uber out of the rental fee. It is inconveniencing that they aren’t currently connected with the rest of the other rental companies however the first time I came I rented from a rental company at the airport location and they have additional “fees” that are never mentioned when initially booking the vehicle however U-Savedoes not charge the additional “airport fee” and has great prices. They also have brochures if you’re new to the area and curious about things to do. I like U Save better for two reason, the customer service was premier and they actually take their time detailing each vehicle. I was impressed with the amount of effort I oversaw as I walked past the open garage door. Thank you Adam & Jenny as you made the inconvenience of it all, worth it with your quick, seemless process and personable communication.

Rented fom U Save - San Diego on 1025 W Laurel St. - This is an off site (not at the airport) location. We were confused as we did take the shuttle to the car rental area however, we could not locate U Save and no one was able to assist us. When we finally decided to take a taxi to the address, we were unsure of the location as the area looked very scketchy. Once there we couldn't find the office. We had to walk down the parkade ramp to get to the U Save office, which was nice and air conditioned!! LOL. JENNY, an associate made a huge difference with our experience! JENNY really took care of us. Refunded our taxi cost and made the check-in process really smooth. JENNY was by herself that day, she is outstanding and U Save is very lucky to have her! The car was in really good condition and the cost was affordable. Would recommed this agency just beware that it is not located at the airport rental facility, as we had originally thought. Thanks JENNY for making our experience pleasant!

Literally every time I've rented from here, I have had ZERO reasons to complain. I've been coming back to SD every few months to see my grandma, so I need to have wheels to drive her around to her appointments and whatnot. Every vehicle I've gotten from here is clean, nice and new. The easy after-hours (well, pre-hours) dropoff is great for when my flight home is uncomfortably early. Peri-covid, you would take an Uber to their location after landing at the airport, and they'd reimburse you (off of the cost of your rental). They now have their shuttle back up and running, so when you land at the airport, take the rental car shuttle from the main pickup spot, then call the number that they'll text to you. They'll be there super quick to snatch you up and bring you to their office. I'll edit if I think of anything else I want to add, but the bottom line is these guys are great (at least, they've BEEN great to me for every occasion I've had to use their services!)

My experience with this U-SAVE car rental location was seamless. I arrived at the San Diego international airport car rental facility around 1pm. I called them right away for pickup. Within less than 10 minutes, the shuttle pick us up and took us to their office which it's less than 5 minutes away. We were the only customers at their office. It took around 10 minutes to complete all the paperwork and we were ready to pick up our rental car. The office lady offered us one hour extension for the dropoff time with no additional fees. That's very nice of her! Four days later we returned the car around 2pm. It took less than 5 minutes for their inspection. We signed the paper and all set. Five minutes later, I received an email invoice to confirm that the final payment was the same as when we paid at the pickup. The whole process was very smooth and hassle free. I would definitely recommend this office.

Airport shuttle doesn’t go to their location. You’ll have to take a cab which they say they will reimburse you for. Made us have proof of insurance or we were forced to buy their insurance. They will say CA law requires insurance but nobody at the other car rental companies makes you show them a policy number. Also the office is difficult to get to. I made a comment that I would never rent here again and the guy decided not to rent to me for making that comment. Lol. Save your time and money and just rent from any other company at the airport. (I said “this is bullshit” when you told me I need proof of ins. I’ve rented dozens of cars from other companies in California. None of them have ever required a policy number so you’re argument that California requires proof…blah blah blah is…well…bullshit :)

Bad experience at pickup, then trouble with car, then bad experience at return. Spent one hour in crowded office waiting to do complicated pickup paperwork. Okay I understand, the whole world is short-staffed. Drove out into the country for an hour and discovered there was only a quarter tank of gas left. Stupid old guy me, I didn't think to take a picture. Before return, I filled the tank. At the return office, I waited in line, then told my story and suggested they refund me $30. Nope. Took a walk with the office guy to the garage, where he and the garage guy found paperwork they said proved I'm a liar. Is that what they taught them to say in customer service class? We'll, I should know by now "The bitterness of low quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price has passed."

The rental company itself was fine, the car was nice (we had a newer Jeep) and we had no issues with the rental agreement or pricing. However, we had no idea that this was an off site car rental company-which was no bueno. This means that you take a shuttle to another shuttle which takes you to their office. We had 2 small kids and a ton of bags + 2 carseats we were lugging around. We also had to wait 45 minutes for a van to come get us from where the first shuttle dropped us at the main rental car area. This was a huge hassle with 2 kids and I just wish they would have been more upfront about that when we chose them to rent from. Not recommended for those traveling with kiddos and tons of bags. Made for an exhausting airport arrival and day.

I had a good experience renting a care from U-Save. They do not have a shuttle from the airport to their location, but they do deduct the uber price from the car rental, so that was fine. The staff is nice. Don't buy the car insurance that expedia offers because they will end up using your actual car insurance instead. The car was in good condition and I drove around all of San Diego. Some of the reviews scared me that they would charge me extra for something at the end, but this was not the case for me. They will charge you $27 fee if you drop the car off outside of working hours, example before 8AM, which most of us will for our return flight. I would definitely rent from them again in the future.

Terrible service! After waiting in line the customer service lady didn't know how to answer my question so she had us wait to the side. She literally helped everyone in line which took an hour. After waiting for a hour I had to go back in line for her to finish helping me. She was rude and had terrible customer service. I was so upset that we tried to return the car rental the following day and they told us they aren’t refunding us any of our money because our reservations were for a week long! Do yourself a favor and save yourself from this trash company who doesn’t care about the customers and pay a little more for a more reputable company to avoid dealing with this trash.

First off, their is no airport shuttle to the rental location. Our map led us the wrong way and ended up taking a tram there. The office deducted the $5 ride from the rental fee. It is the lowest cost car rental place in town, you get what you're willing to pay for. The place could use some better signage. The return lot is easy to find, yet you have to walk up a hill, enter the upper parking lot, and then take an immediate right down the hall to the rental office. They do require your policy number for insurance if not buying insurance. Seams to be more and more standard at any car rental company. They do provide a ride to the airport from their office.

Save your money, patience, and simply rent elsewhere!!! They literally contacted my insurance and reported I was in an accident and wanted to cover their damages to the vehicle for a scratch smaller than the size of a nickel- literally!!! Even the insurance agent apologized! This is the most ghetto, sketchy operation I have ever experienced in my life!!! You literally conduct business in what appears to be a vacant building, come out the side of an unnamed building, and walk down to a garage where your car will be handed over to you in darkness quickly, but heavily scrutinized upon return. Trust me, you want to rent anywhere else!!!

This business is all about customer satisfaction. Although they don't have residency in the dedicated car rental garage, they were quick to respond to our arrival, punctual at shuttling us nearby to our rental, and provided a quality vehicle with a smile. Armando, our shuttle driver, was on point with a great attitude, courteous, and very informative. These folks are all about providing the same, if not, greater service you would expect from a national brand but at an exceptional value. When and if we visit again, we definitely will rent from U-Save and would recommend them to our friends and family. Great job!

We had a car reserved for 5:30pm pickup on a Sunday using their reservation system. We arrive at 5:30 after taking a cab that they promised to reimburse us for since they have no shuttle service and they’re miles away from the legitimate car rental center. When we arrived they front desk people were in their cars ready to drive away. They refused to give us our car even though the garage was still open and we were already in their system. They use Travelocity and Expedia platforms to give them credibility when the have xerox signs in a near vacant downtown garage. Stay away from this company!

Nice customer service - friendly shuttle driver, and when the shuttle wasn't working, they paid for my taxi to get to car rental place. They are open 8a.m. to 6p.m. and charge $27 to drop off outside those hours - so be aware of that. I brought my insurance card from home and had no trouble checking out quickly. I was so grateful that when I left a personal item in the car, they had me send a fedex label and got it back to me quickly. I was so grateful for their honesty. I was worried not renting from a name brand, but they were really nice to work with.

They tell you that they will reimburse you for the Uber because they didn't have a shuttle to bring us from airport like they advertise. Never did get reimbursed. Then I was told because I was going to return the vehicle after hours they were going to charge me for that. This does not say that on the rental agreement their website or on the after hours form. They also ask you for your insurance policy information which I have never had happened before. I took a video of the car after we dropped it off just to make sure. Shady shady shady. Never again.

I dropped my rental car off 08/25/22 and I still don’t have my deposit back. I want my $500.00 back. Paying for a cab to this location is shady. Traffic so bad the cab driver made us walk the rest of the way. I’m 7 months pregnant walking through a bad area and the building usave is in doesn’t have a clear sign. Creepy building of multiply shady businesses. I felt like I was about to be kidnapped. Update: it’s been 18 business days and I started my fraudulent dispute with the bank 4 days ago. Still waiting. ‍♀️

My mom and I rented a car from U-Save and had a great experience in September 2023. I was worried about negative reviews on yelp and google but everything was professional and worked out perfectly for us. Spent $82 total for a 3 day rental, which was an incredible deal. When we arrived to rental car part of airport, called U-Save, and they picked us up for free in a nice van in 6 minutes. Used my own usual car insurance and credit card collision insurance at no extra cost. Thank you so much to everyone at U-Save!!

They don’t tell you that if you go through any toll way you will be charged $55. Horrible customer service! San Diego location Your response states we were told of the charge that we can get which is absolutely not true. It is something you should tell your customer rather than have it on some fine print. You scam people into paying you a $55 fee for no reason which doesn’t even cover the cost of the tollway that we have to pay anyway. Customers be ware of extra hidden cost that they don’t mention to you!

Don't book with them. I arrived at the airport and was told they didn't have a shuttle for the day and they would reimburse me for the uber. I get there and they give me this car with a bunch of scratches. I told them I may drop the car off on Friday instead of Saturday they advised I can leave it with the parking attendant at the garage. I get an email saying they found scratches on the truck of the car and they will be filing a claim against my insurance. Please don't waste your time renting from here.

I would not recommend this place. Upon arriving, I received a text stating that there would be no shuttle available to pick me up. Rather I would be reimbursed ($25 max) for transportation taken to their site. Well of course the cost was more than that amount. Upon arriving, had to wait a good hour in line before getting helped. Then the car itself was not even fully clean from inside and there was even a Clorox bleach bottle under the driver seat. You get what you pay for.

Just don’t. First off, it’s not even in the rental building affiliated with the airport so you can’t take the shuttle (you have to either walk there or get an uber). Second, it let us book a car after its closing hour. We went there (after lugging our luggage for 10+ minutes) just to find that everything was closed and locked. We tried calling them but there was no after hour support. Just THE WORST.

USave has been a wonderful experience to rent a Car. Brian and Jenny at the depot answered all of our questions and went above and beyond our expectations. Armando our driver back the airport was exceptional, made our family feel very safe, friendly and kind. We will definitely be using this service in our future trips and will recommend it to family. I was desperate to get car immediately so I ignored my misgivings about renting from a relatively unknown company whose price was half that of the competition. Turns out these guys were great, and they are small so there was no line. When I think of all the money I threw away renting from the big agencies…now I’ll rent from them whenever I can!

Great experience from beginning to end! I'm a repeat customer because their rental prices are usually the best deals among competitors. Staff is awesome and professional to all. I've witnessed their skills being "tested" by a headache customer with a silly complaint. I'm not going to allow Mr. Headache to influence my opinion of U-Save!

It doesn't matter if the company is big or small, what matters is the service and attitude. Beyond the affordable prices I encounter, I want to highlight Gini at reception and Adam who hands over the vehicles. Both were very friendly and helpful, it's nice to encounter such people, the company did well hiring them, I highly recommend.

Reserved a car with car seat. No car seat. No customer service. Terrible scenario when you need a rental with a car seat. • Responding to your question. San Diego. Based on other poor reviews, I called when I landed to confirm car and car seat. No rear facing seat for a non-infant. No help from your agent. Absurd.

Received a charge on my credit card claiming that the car had to be cleaned for $250 with this as the evidence. Manager was rude and accusatory because we dropped the car off overnight and were not there to dispute the charge. Poor customer service and clearly run by liars. See below for continuing accusations.

It’s a hassle to get to the car rental place. Once you take the car rental shuttle to the car rental center you have to pay for an Uber or taxi to get there. No one answers the phone when you call. If you drop the car off early or late (not in business hours) you are charged an additional $30.

Despite a small initial hiccup due to me not being adequately prepared, I had a good experience with U-Save. They are helpful and courteous, and the car met my expectations, for a much better price than the big companies. I would not hesitate to rent from them again.

Great price! Great service! Worked with me even though I had made a reservation for the wrong week. Cons: No airport shuttle. No shuttle even from the 'offsite car rentals'... but they reimbursed our Uber, and the shuttle TO the airport after return was smooth.

We were on our last day in SD and all the cars at the airport were rented out. This place came in clutch and had a car for us so we can spend our last day a dream. The car was a pretty new Kia Soul. Everyone was very kind. Definitely would rent from them again.

2nd time I used this company and both times different locations had no issues! I would recommend this company to go through they are very affordable! And if you do the companies pick they don’t put you in an outrageously big car when there isn’t many of you.

We returned the car and my wife left her wallet in the car, we called 30 mins later once at the airport, they told me to mail them a pre paid shipping label. I did and have get to receive anything 10 days later. Smh 0/5 starts .. rented 4/29 returned 5/2/23
