The above rating is for the very poor service I got from one of their sellers. This unfortunate incident happened last 21st July 2022. I tried to contact the bakery owners, by text and by phone but I guess, they just couldn't be bothered. At around 2 pm, I was in the store and bought goods for $53. Unfortunately, when I reached my car, I noticed that I only got 7 empanadas when I know that I paid for 8. I almost did not go back for this one empanada since it was raining but since I was giving the boxes to 2 families of 4, I decided to go back to ask for the missing empanada. The girl who served me asked me "are you sure" and she probably meant if I was sure that there was really one missing. She either thought that I didn't know how to count or I ate/kept the missing empanada. I let it go because it really was my fault that I didn't look at what she put inside the paper bag before I left their store. I just said "OO". I saw her put an empanada inside the paper bag. As usual, I didn't check just what exactly she put into the paper bag, I guess it's because I generally trust people. Plus, this is just one small empanada, I can't understand why I can't trust someone over one small empanada. The seller has given me this, please look at the attached photo after this text. It seems to me that someone has taken a bite of that empanada - there were no crumbs or no piece of empanada inside the paper bag to indicate that it was broken/or damaged in transit. The reason why I am bothering to give this feedback is because I was quite disappointed with this transaction. Surely, that seller needs to improve her customer service - I was not going to spend $53 on that bakery only to deceive them with the cost of one small empanada. I don't even know how much this small empanada costs, that just shows how the price was not important to me but I am sure it's not enough for the 'sneakiness' that the seller did. The first mistake was an error, she probably thought that she gave me 8 instead of 7 BUT the second one was plain sneakiness. By the way, I threw this empanada out. Will anyone eat this empanada after all that? I surely won't. The lesson of this story, make sure that what you paid for is what you are getting, before you step out of the bakery, even though you bought a lot from them and have lots to check. Don't trust all of them to do the right thing.

This is the best Filipino bakery in town. No questions asked. Their products are always freshly made, delicious, well packaged but most important of all is *authentic*. Starlight is the original Filipino bakery "that started it all". I have been a loyal customer since day 0 and they have never failed me. Our relatives and friends always ask us to buy them some bread from this store during gatherings and parties. It is always a crowd favourite! Many of my work friends who are not Filipino love the bread of this store. I brought some to work as a "Pasalubong" (gifts to share) and they have fell in love ever since. They always druel thinking about the Spanish bread I bought to work and always ask me when I will them some more! My favourites are: Spanish bread, bitso bitso and Ube bread. I am proud of this store as it is representative of the true hard working Filipino spirit. Kris De Leon

The bread is good. I mean it’s the best!! But the customer service. . One of their staff has a bad attitude. Not all, I think only that one staff. As a customer and working in a customer service what she did is not good. She didn’t even bother to say hello or good morning to the customer. I get it maybe it’s her first day or whatever. She didn’t even let her finish what the customer want. She was like “that’s all?!”. You can see on her face that she making faces. She even make a tantrum she put the breads I bought forcefully on the counter. Take note I’m the only one customer there at that time. And gave it to me like it’s nothing. For god sake it’s food not just an ordinary thing. It’s not only me who witness that. I told her “Ay ang sungit ni Ate” and she started making faces and eyebrow raising. People please be kind.

This Bakery is without a doubt, the most popular Filipino bakery that you can find in Sydney. This Bakery has lots of its signature taste, lots of options to choose from, and known to be the hottest Filipino bakery to ever exist in this city! Their Spanish breads, their pandesal and their Bicho-Bicho are a hot pick at this store, and so are their cakes. All breads and cakes are at reasonable price at this bakery. However, the only slight letdown at this store, are the staff. Unfortunately, the staff here are not so friendly. Their communication to the customers are too neutral and sometimes can come across to be snobby, but nevertheless - If you plan to make the trip here to this Bakery, please do expect a long queue especially into the evening as lots of people line up to get into the store.

Starlight Bakery was fantastic...First time ordering from here. We ordered a 12"X12" I've Birthday cake for a 50th birthday party and everyone loved it. The cake was absolutely perfect, moist. With 2 layers of ube cream and macapuno this cake was delicious. The staff was great and accommodating, as normally they require minimum 3 days when ordering, but they helped me out with a one day turnaround. A huge Thanks to the Baker and staff of Starlight Bakery....you made the birthday party truly a momerable one♥️. I highly recommend buying you next birthday cake here...plus they have great range of tasty sweet Baker such as pandesal, sweets and other cakes.

They were very busy but were going through the customers quite quickly, awesome selection of items to buy and I was thinking of the sugar coma one could fall into. They have a very good egg pie and so yummy, empernadas were very savoury and taste devine. Just fantastic. I believe their customer service has improved since I was there last time. It was better than last time I was there. I didnt see any fresh bread loaves there, They could have been anywhere in the little shop. But it was a popular shop. I will go back and experience more items and if you liked my review give me a tick on the blue hand and help me improve my google local guide experience...

Just as the star shines as though this shop.they have the very own taste where youll remember our Homeland philippines. Best seller is pandesal but if your up for it also theres more.... mamon, ensaymada, dito mo makikita na ang españa (spain) ay bread lang... joke aside theres more to be there peeps are friendly better pag may barya ka pag wala okay din naman.. line system: lets show our filipino courtesy and give way for those nakakatanda and also dont forget to give a warm smile and lovee... STARLIGHT WHERE YOULL FEEL LIKE AS IF YOU ARE IN PHILIPPINES!!!! Kaya leggo and buy some lets support our very own filo shops ^_^

  • Don

Always a delight to come to this shop, I think it’s rated as one of the best Filipino bakery’s in sydney if not the no1. Went today and whilst prices have increased a bit I can only imagine this due to inflation and everything getting expensive. They’ve also Finales after a decade lol have renovated the shop so you won’t be seeing any of the old electrical wiring etc which is now nice to see. As others have suggested since Filipinos like this bakery a lot, you’d generally see it busier on weekends and having to wait in a line from outside as they are sticking with a 3 max person (covid rule) for inside

  • Gilda Ponferrada

Just a word of caution. When you buy at Starlight Bakery, Doonside, ALWAYS ASK for RECEIPT and ALWAYS CHECK the items you bought. Not all items you purchased could be in the bag. It happened twice to us. The 1st time, I went back to them (making a 2nd trip which is a hassle) and readily they admitted and handed to me the missing item. The 2nd time was yesterday Sept 17 at 2:30pm. 6pcs of missing items and none of the ordered ensaymada. We couldn’t go back as we were pressed for time. I hope it is not deliberate. If it is, Starlight management should do something to mend this fraudulent practice.

  • icy san pedro

The Starlight bakery (DOONSIDE) is under NEW MANAGEMENT, my experience unfortunately was bad when I noticed 3 of us customer waiting to be serve, one is ongoing and two of us is waiting, only one staff is serving, while 2 staff is laughing not doing anything. I raised the complaints to the MANAGER, unfortunately the manager did not listened or even understood my complaints. I conclude the Management and all staff need to underdog CUSTOMER SERVICE WORKSHOP,, very disappointing. The old management of STARLIGHT I never had any issue, because the staff are very attentive to customers..

03.09 2023: Here's a feedback for you! Don't accept an order the day before over the phone, grabbing my order, name and mobile number then ending the call with a see you tomorrow! Come next day for me to pay and pick up my order only to be told that both my orders are NOT available becoz as per your weekend protocol all orders need to be paid for in full ... well well that information would have been handy YESTERDAY! You have lost another customer and probably about time anyway! So disappointed in Starlight and your staff

  • Frank S

We're a big fan of Starlights cakes and selection of Filipino bread! Very popular bakery considering how busy it always is! Dropped by this morning to grab some Spanish Bread and Bitso Bitso...goes so well with the morning coffee!!! The Spanish Bread was as light and fluffy as it looks and the BB (basically fried doughnut) was nice and crispy on the outside...these are probably the most popular items as the tray out front empties quick! They usually have plenty more out back though..just ask! Keep your good work Starlight!

  • Juan Paulo Magpayo (JP)

Legit Pinoy Baked Goods can be found here! I come from the Northern Beaches so when I got the chance to pass by here I ordered as much as I could. The brazo de mercedes they had was good! Not overly sweet and fluffy. The pandesal is just what we needed to remind us of home and the empanada, spanish bread, pandecoco and special ensaymada were all top notch stuff that we have tried here in Australia. Way way better than the blacktown bakeries and priced nicely too! Maraming salamat!

  • Louisa Dib

The breads are nice, but do NOT buy their cakes. I bought the chocolate cake for my mum's birthday and there was a very long piece of hair in it and little pieces of what appears to be cotton (?), either way it did not belong in the cake and we ended up feeling abit sick afterwards. I bought this cake twice and both times this was the case. I really encourage the staff to make them fresh and to wear a hair net !!. You're a bakery, you should know better.

  • Mel P-H

Love their freshly baked breads. However, the service is very slow. I was the 7th on the queue and it took almost an hour to reach the counter and get served. The customers behind me have the same complaints. That wasn't the 1st time I heard the same thing. Not worth it. They should increase their manpower during peak hours and on weekends. Half star for service delivery and customer service.

  • Cholly Paderanga

Ensaymada classic, Spanish bread and coco bread are ok. Brazo is also ok ✅ Just yesterday, I bought their buco pie .. sorry, it’s not as good as it should be! It seems it has eggs and it seems to be more on egg pie than a buco pie. It really disappoints me For Pan de Sal, I find it has more air in the bread .. so I go for the other Filipino bakeshop across the street at Doonside.

  • gemma sy

I like their special ensaymada and plain ensaymada, pan de sal too. Long queue when I was there today, Sunday 12:45pm. I like everything that I bought but I don't like the service because I'm trying to speak with the lady and she just keeps walking away soon as I say 2 of these and that... so she didn't hear what else I'm wanting and just shouted the total payable.

  • Minnie Mines

Filo bread anyone? This is the place to be. Grab some bicho (long john donuts) for $1, cheese bread for $1.50, enseymada too and don't forget your pandesal! And they offer a lot more (empanada, ube cakes, siopao, etc). Its so popular you need to take a ticket to queue. I have been here many times and I never came without a queue.. beat it!

  • Sulieti Teaupa

I have been introduced to the Spanish bread & Phillipino doughnuts from this gourmet Phillipino Bakery by a Work Colleague, I now have my Family hooked on the doughnuts and spanish bread. I was a local 13 years ago and would always stop by for a Vegie Pasties for road, the best I have ever tasted! Keep up the great work!

  • Roslyn da Roza

Arguably the best Filipino bakery in Sydney and theres nothing better than freshly baked pandesal which is the most popular bread in the Philippines. This small store also pumps out other sweet Filipino delicacies like spanish bread, bicho bicho (a long cylindrical donut) and buko pie (coconut pie) just to name a few.

  • mycmjaf

I always buy bitso and spanish bread, and is always so nice. Yesterday I bought other sweets for our party. We were very very disappointed! The ube rolls and flan cake was so dry. The cream in the ube rolls were not nice at all. I was not happy as I chose starlight bakery sweets as my desserts to serve.

  • John Phill

Great prices same the food, lady behind counter at 530pm still had a happy greeting after working all day, that tells you that it a good Bakery, made my day after all the traffic and comming to Doonside to do a job, will support shop everytime i get here.

  • SydneyGR

I don't know what I'm getting lol they try to explain but I still don't know! Sum of it is really soft bread and I liked it. There is one with a strip of cheese inside. The harder breads didn't take my fancy though. Empanadas are also available here

We celebrated my son's birthday in Sydney and i made the right choice to order cake and savoury pastries from this bakery, the flavour ticks a lof boxes for me, good value for money too. If you're near Blacktown it's worth a stop to this place.

  • WM 1032

Best pandesal in the area and other pastries and bread. Some stupid customers kept asking " MASARAP BA ITO"? Does it taste nice?? I saw one, he pointed at every bread on the shelf asking the same questions over and over again. What an idiot.

  • Ben de Leon

Friends often talk about getting their Filipino pastries and cakes from here. We were in the neighbourhood so we dropped in for a look. Well, we left with a lot of goodies at a very reasonable price. Definitely will be back.

  • Aieda

the Ube birthday cake for my husband was so delicious and beautifully decorated and worth the 20 minute drive. Highly recommend and the Buko pie. My twins both said they want this to be each of their cakes next birthday

  • Mark W

Placed an order for 20 empanadas at 12.30pm, they told me to come in at 1pm to pickup. I got there at 1pm and waited Infront of them for 25 mins with no service. Ended up walking away. Won’t use their service ever again

  • Andrew Huynh

We dont live close but the wife had a craving for spanish bread. 30 mins later we're presented with a super long line of people who felt the same. The service is great and food is even better. Worth the wait and drive.

  • Jennifer M

Every time I am in Doonside I always make sure I make time to head to starlight bakery to pick up a dozen freshly baked Pandasel. The only downside is Parking is a bit of a nightmare and often the wait is long.

  • Charlene K

Delectable! Our go-to favourites are - Spanish bread, Pan de Coco, pandesal and empanada. The queue is always long but, they've upgraded their ordering system to help fast track the process. Always a delight!

  • L B

3/10/23 am. I came in today the lady at the front isn’t greeting customers at all just ready to take the money. I haven’t finish my order but as soon I’m about to leave surprisingly saying bye to me lol

Beautiful selection of fresh baked goods. Deliciously cooked and quick service. The line can be massive but it's worth the wait! Try the ube pandesal, the purple treat!

  • Lafamilia torroba

Was spoken to crassly, poor service and siopao lacked texture and overpowering flavor of cinnamon? Weird flavor profile and texture of empanadas, not like the past!

  • Kenan Vatan

Service slow as…. Can’t believe it. Was the only customer and there were 3 people working. Took them nearly 6 min for just one coffee. Even snails work faster.

They were the go to place (a must visit) early on for Filo breads but right now, they're just ok quality wise and pricey compared to other options.
