We ordered the Tim’s Benny with a potato Rosti topped with pork and poached egg and most creamy yummy hollandaise sauce as well as a huxtaburger with egg, bacon, arugula and most amazing drizzle that was sweet and savoury both! The biggest downside of our experience was a stray strand of blonde hair in my Tim’s Benny embedded in the potato rosti. the staff replaced meal and got a new one. It’s just that it took us 30 mins or more to get the food and then I had to wait for another 10ish while my partner finished his food and I waited for a replacement. In lieu of the hair and the delay they comped my 3.60 coffee for free (we didn’t ask for it). I’d rather just get my food hair free and on time than a free coffee. Since we were sitting on the patio it was hard to get anyone’s attention and my partner had to chase someone to come to table after I found the hair and tried getting attention of the server. Our water glasses were empty and only refilled again when our food came 35 mins later. When asked for hot sauce they gave me a bottle that had 2 tsp of sauce in it for 2 people! My experience of their food and service when they first opened years ago didn’t live upto the hype with which I came to share back to share the place with my partner years later.

I was looking forward to try this cafe, but was underwhelmed by the poor service and mediocre food. The inside of the cafe is very, very nice. They have a great lighting situation and you are able to view the kitchen from your seats, which is neat. The barista bar is fun and welcoming. My server was not. He probably spoke 4 short sentences to us in total, and was not very accommodating. The hostess sat us at a table near the door, and every time someone came in or went out the cold and warmth followed creating uncomfortable drafts. I ordered Tim's Benny and was fairly disappointed. I was not a fan of the fried shredded potato base as a substitute for an English muffin or bread. The shredded ham was okay. The egg was poached just a bit too long and was not very runny. The addition of the hollandaise sauce was fairly conservative. It was not appealing, or colorful to look at; It was white, yellow and brown. The other plates around me did look very good, maybe I had made a poor choice from the menu. The overall experience left me underwhelmed, but I have hope for this Kingston cafe.

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. To be honest we didn’t get a chance to taste the food. After placing our order, we received our cappuccinos, which were mediocre but the milk art was nice. After waiting an hour, we asked the waitress what was happening with our order. She seem flustered and said it was coming. After pressing her a bit more she admitted she forgot to put our order in! We had enough at this point and got up to leave and we’re asked to pay for the coffees and a mimosa ( that we had to ask for twice). After speaking with the manager, she agreed to remove the covers from the bill but not the mimosa. She told us that we should have brought up the issue earlier and basically it was our fault that we waited so long. I refused to pay and we left. Will never go back there again.

It’s hard to give an accurate review because the food and service was amazing, but I was unable to finish my meal, and felt shamed from the one server who said they don’t throw food out, and wouldn’t remove my plate from the table. My husband nicely asked for a to-go box, but there was literally 4 bites of food that I was truly unable to eat and wouldn’t haven’t finished it later (so we tossed the food out ourselves when we left)… there are many reasons a customer can’t finish a meal, either medical or other, and should never feel shamed for not eating their meal. It was an interesting experience (one I’ve never experienced anywhere before) and sadly, I doubt I’ll be back because of that.

Attended yesterday at noon ish, sat indoors as patio was full. Staff was very nice, welcoming! We ordered mimosas to drink, very regular, tasted nice, no negatives, no positives! Food was not good, I ordered the chicken sandwich, tasted as though i was just eating bread, and for the price you pay (minimum $17 for anything on that menu, the sandwich was 19.70 if i remember correctly) it was not up to par. I could not even finish the sandwich as it was simply that gross. At the same time, the bread was so crispy that you couldnt bite it without slicing the inside of your mouth on almost every bite. The group I went with noted the same thing of their meals, both of which had the bagel, very bland tasting, did not taste like what was advertised. We were all pretty dissapointed as we left the building. Will not be coming back for the food unfortunately.

The ambience is elegant and charming. The service was excellent, staff were very friendly. The food - I tried the Brunswick Classic was delicious!! It comes with my fav fried halloumi. The drink - lemonade was very good and very refreshing recommended by staff. Northside espresso + Kitchen located in the heart of Kingston. Will definitely come back to Northside espresso + Kitchen for my next road trip. I went for a latte. They handed me a menu. That was the single, most evil thing they could've done. Benny's. Breakfast sandwiches. AvoToast. Several other (vegetarian and GF) mouthwatering options were available. They call out their local food suppliers. How could I NOT order something to eat? So evil. So I got a croissant with homemade tomato jam. And then the SERVICE. It has been a while since I visited a café where baristas have convos with patrons. It was fun and easy going, and the team is tight. The plants, in particular, look incredible. Particularly near the patio. I'll be returning, often and with great anticipation.

What an experience! This cute Australian cafe delivered on all fronts. Service was warm and friendly, and they promptly moved us indoors as soon as it started drizzling. Now for the real star: the food was amaaazing. The Tim's Benny I got was the most satisfying breakfast I've had. The poach eggs were oozing with flavor and the deep fried potato bedding was just so crispy and addicting! Talk about a big breakfast. The Chai tea I got was also very yummy. It was the right balance of spice and sweetness. I liked how I was able to pour it out of the filter myself - don't worry, they'll tell you how to do it ;) Overall, great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to give this place 6 stars if I could.

We wanted to love this place. The decor is very trendy but simple and clean, not overwhelming. The service was pretty good. I can see how some people love the place. We found the coffee too strong and we did not like our breakfast at all. There weren’t many breakfast choices, which is fine, but the “French toast” we chose was more like a really dense block of bread pudding. It would be ok as a dessert but was too sweet and doughy and landed like a lead weight in my stomach. We both left most of the square on our plates and the waiter didn’t ask why. As we don’t plan to go back and we were busy with other tasks we didn’t comment. Don’t order the French toast!

  • Yulia Kovaleva

It is a very cute place inside and the coffee is good. The food options are slightly more interesting and upscale than in most cafes in Kingston, however they are on the expensive side for what they are, and don’t come with sides (~$20 per sandwich alone is a bit much even for Kingston, avocado toast with no egg is $18 ). It took very long (about 40mins) to get our food and the staff didn’t apologize for the wait or even let us know what was going on until I asked about 30mins in.

I have gotten Tim’s eggs Benedict with smoked salmon twice now. The first time the hollandaise sauce was too acidic. The second time, it was great. Both times I found the potato base to be overly fried and hard to eat. All other items I’ve tried have been decent. Presentation for food is always beautiful and the service is friendly. Great options for gluten-free and vegetarian diets. Prices are moderate.

My favorite breakfast/ brunch spot in Kingston hands down. The owners are lovely and the staff are equally wonderful. This kitchen+espresso cafe has a fun Australian influence seen in the food to the beverages to the decor. I really love that their menu options lean towards healthier options, and isn't just the basic "bacon and eggs" breakfast. Even better, the coffee and espresso are incredible, and I count down the days until my next cappuccino. It's not surprising that this place is packed on the weekends, even during a pandemic (socially distanced still, of course!). YUM YUM YUM.

Great local cafe for tasty breakfast and coffee. The space is really pretty and cute. The staff is amazing and attentive. I was recommended this place by chatting and boy was it worth it!!! The food is super fresh and tasty. With well balanced spices. I got the chicken scramble, coffee, and banana chocolate muffin!! Everything was delicious. The omelette was soft and fluffy. Will def definitely visit again!!

Came here for Sunday brunch with my partner. It was busy when we arrived at 10:30, but we didn't wait too long for a table. My partner got the Reubenesque and I got the Avo Smash with a poached egg on top. Beautifully plated. I had no idea an avocado could taste as fresh and creamy as this one was! Just an overall chill vibe with the lighting on point also. Aesthetic 10/10. Fionn was our server, she was fantastic - very knowledgeable and welcoming. Great experience overall! We will be back!

If you’re looking for a cosy place to get your Sunday brunch, search no more. The staff is very nice and helpful. I tried the French toast who doesn’t look like your average French toast. My kids got the brioche with Nutella, oh my! And my mum had a kale salad. Everything was flavourful and we had to take it home because the portions were big. Just note that it’s quite popular so we had a bit of a wait but they sent us a text to let us know when our table would be ready.

You Won't Go South at Northside: The Brunch is the Best! One of the BEST brunch locations. It has a wonderful vibe. I never thought I could love squash more with their Nashville style take on it. My partner had the lamb meatballs which they thought were absolutely stellar. The turmeric latte is dreamy and the coffee is damn fine:) So wonderful to support a local run business who is community minded. Can't wait to share with our out of town family to experience the great food that we did. It is more than just a brunch place, it is an experience!

Arrived in Kingston from Toronto and was craving a solid brunch. No reservations, but if you arrive around 10:30am, you'll likely grab a seat by 11. The Hustaburger with its tasty brioche and bacon was a hit, and the Tomato Furikake toast is a must if you love avocado and fresh tomatoes. They don't have wifi, and service can be a bit slow, so I'm giving it 4 stars (though it's closer to 4.5). Overall, great experience and the outdoor seating is a treat!

I ordered an ice mocha for to go. The cup wasn't filled all the way up, there was little ice so it waters down quickly, and I couldn't even taste the espresso. It tasted like milk chocolate, however their chocolate sauce is pretty good, that's the 2 stars for. I asked for more ice but they refused to give me ice because they run low on ice for the day, and it's like 2:20pm at the order, they close at 3pm. They needed to save ice for another 40mins rather than serving me ice. Definitely not recommended for the service.

This is a lovely brunch place located downtown. The prices are competitive with other places in town, but the quality is much superior to other brunch places. The service is fast and friendly. But just note there can be a bit of a wait to get in and you cant wait in the restaurant when waiting for a table.

Heard good reviews of their brunch unfortunately wasn't available that day. They were nice enough to txt us when a table opened up. Service was super friendly and the coffee was excellent. Out of the four of us no one was able to find anything that caught our eye to order for brunch so we left shortly after. Definitely not the fault of the business or the staff we were just looking for basic bacon and egg breakfasts. Would definitely try again when we don't have specific meals in mind.

What a fantastic all round experience! It has a bustling, cool vib with young and old coming and going. Sit at the big table up front with other people while reading The Globe n Mail or The Times or take a table just for your group. The kitchen has windows all around so you can see the hard working chefs ... love that it’s open and clean! And the food!!!! Delicious and full of interesting tasty bits with every mouthful! Fresh and oh, try the lattes! Soooo good! I can’t wait to go back!

We first came across Northside in June 2017 and have made it part of every Kingston trip since. We routinely make trips from Ottawa specifically to have brunch there, as well as stopping there when passing by or visiting Kingston. The food and service are consistently great, so are the prices. You won’t be disappointed.

The flavours and food taste great, as do the mixed drinks and espressos! Fours stsrs only because my experience left me wanting a bit. We waited over an hour for our meals after being seated, however, our server was exceptional, and showed much understanding. I found the portions a bit small for the pricing. That said, I would definitely recommend trying some of their cuisine and drinks if you're looking for a treat!

While I praise NORTHSIDE for their adventurous and locally sourced food, I believe some things are unfinished recipes. For example; the sandwich posted is 19 ish dollars, no sides or drinks. The textures were phenomenal but it was lacking flavour and something less greasy to balance the dish. The atmosphere is great but the value for your money could be improved.

You don't have to read the review, just go here. The service was outstanding (helped us get in from the rain and to a table as quick as possible), the food was fantastic (eggs Benny for me and avocado toast for my wife, on the short list for best breakfasts we've had together in 10+ years). Coffee was amazing (flat white for both of us). We may return to Kingston just for this spot!

Also they don’t charge for almond milk which is amazing. 10/10

Very disappointed with what is one of our favourite breakfast places. Ordered a new menu item, the asparagus Benny and was told it was not available because there was no asparagus available. Asked to be served the item without the asparagus and was told no substitutions. That’s very perplexing. We didn’t want a substitute just the meal without asparagus. Still shaking my head at that!

We walked pass, and want a coffee. This cafe caught our eyes. We wish we would try their food before we leave the town. My husband ordered a ice latte and me had Melbourne iced chocolate. He loves his coffee, good ratios on milk and espresso. And my iced chocolate was lovely, ice cream, chocolate and milk...iced drink cools us down. Will come back if we pass by Kingston.

I have had brunch twice here since coming to Kingston for the summer! It is by far the best food I've had here. The first time I went for chicken schnitzel coupled with a regular cappuccino which was great! The next time went for the eggs Benedict with a chai tea latte. The presentation and the service was on point as well! Definitely recommend trying this place out!

Not the best experience. Service was okay, but price was exorbitant for how little food you actually get. $20 for a breakfast sandwich. Just a sandwich. They refused to take the pickled kale off someone’s sandwich because it would affect the way it is supposed to taste?

Staff was very friendly. Tea Latte is tasty and unique. The Eggs Benedict is excellent and a little different take on the usual. Eggs seemed exceptionally fresh, the ham and apple on top really sets it apart. Two drinks and two Benny’s will come in around $50 which is the only reason why we give this place 4/5 instead of 5/5.

This is a local favourite of mine for breakfast! The Avo Smash with a poached egg and hot sauce is delicious, and they make one of the best cappuccino’s in town! Make sure and try one of the fresh baked muffins as well, you won’t be disappointed.

A very aesthetically pleasing café with a bright and welcoming environment inside and out. Food and drinks are pricey but very good. You get what you pay for. When I'm travelling these are the kinds of places I'm looking for, worth the visit!

I stopped in to get a coffee for a friend. I had never been there before. Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff.

Healthy lunch. Coffee size was quite small:(. Good service. 20 mins wait time for lunch outside of the restaurant. The price was a little higher ($2-3) than average. No desserts were available in other’s reviews but only cookies.

Awesome place for breakfast/brunch. We are so glad friends recommended this and it is a stop for us whenever we are in town. Great service, and absolutely wonderful food!

Delicious brunch spot. Service was good and food tasted good, but was a bit pricey considering the portion size. Restaurant was also clean and bright which I really liked.

Nice ambience and friendly server. Latte was grainy and bitter. Had the vegan black rice, which was delicious and a creative vegan addition to a brunch menu. Could use more sides (i.e. mini potato rostis).

Went here for lunch, food was fantastic, service was just ok. They were quite busy, so lacked the personal service touches. Hopefully will have a better experience next time. Food was top notch!

Very relaxed atmosphere. Only stopped for coffee (you can get a tumeric latte here). Very friendly staff. Didn't eat but the food we saw looked good.

Lovely cafe with great food!! We loved Tim’s Benny and chicken sandwich! The cafe inside is very photogenic and so does the patio!! Would love to visit again if I stop by KINGSTON!!

Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the avocado smash I purchased. Paid $16 and got alot of avo but not much else. Only 1 slice of toast. Great coffee and friendly staff.

  • Robert Ewart

Lovely and cozy environment, great coffee, delicious and creative food, friendly service. And it's a refreshing change not having laptops open at every table all afternoon.

  • Kelly White

Really good coffee and amazing interior at this restaurant. My gripe with this place is that prices are very high for what you get. Food is decent but portions are small.

  • joyce zhu

super friendly server and cozy atmosphere as well as filling portions (the avo toast was super flavourful and not bland at all) it’s one of the best places to eat …

I have a new favorite drink, the turmeric latte with coconut milk. So delicious. Will be bringing guests this summer for some of Tim's Benny and a boozy brunch.

Very cute patio tucked away from Kingston's main street. The food was very good but quite overpriced. The service was lovely.

  • Csaba Harmath

Very friendly and easy going breakfast place with fine, but healthy dishes and a proper espresso or cappuccino to taste!
