This review is reflective of a recent group dining experience at Cork & Flame. It was everyone's first visit, and will likely be everyone's last. The dining space is huge, patio is nice, live music was good, but the indoor space is too loud to have a conversation. The service staff was friendly and helpful, but also inexperienced and slow. The owner or manager, a gentleman who was chatting with tables, bringing out drinks, and advising the wait staff, really ruined the experience for all of us, which I will get to later. Apart from not having many of the menu items available, waiting a long time for everything, watching other tables served before us even though they arrived later, having items forgotten or incorrect, our meals ranged from good to disappointing. One person soon after experienced some tummy trouble, but this could always be coincidental. One person really did not enjoy their meal or experience. This review would have been much better, but because of the owner/manager's lack of customer service skills it gets 1/5. If I could give lower than that, I would. Discussing our table with another table is unprofessional. Patronising people is rude. For the prices they are charging you expect a certain level of quality, and knowledge about how to prepare something and that was lacking. The steak was soggy, no crust or sear, and just didn't look or taste like it was freshly grilled. Other steaks were ordered (medium well) and were enjoyed but I also would take an assessment by someone who prefers their steak done that much with a grain of salt. I'm sure many people have a great time here, but in terms of value for money, ambience and total dining experience this place was a big L. If you do go I hope your experience is much better than ours. *pictured is the lamb shank which was good, but sent the person who ordered it to the bathroom before leaving so, who knows.

I took my friend out to Cork & Flame for breakfast to celebrate her birthday. Service was slow. We were in the restaurant, and our server seemed to have a big group on the patio and only our table it seemed inside the restaurant. I called ahead to ask what the gluten free options are for breakfast. I was told one dish was--the eye opener breakfast special. At least I didn't take long to deliberate. When we were ready to order, I informed the server that I am gluten free, and it is because of a food sensitivity. She assured me the breakfast special was safe. When the food arrived, I double-checked with her specifically regarding the hash browns. This is what she said: Oh yeah. My sister is gluten free and she just gets a little tummy ache. I always feel confident telling my customers that they're safe to eat the hash browns because can have them, and she just gets a little tummy ache. It's just fro the fryer, you know. And she's anaphylactic, and she just gets a little tummy ache, and it's not even every time. This is not something a Celiac wants to hear. That's the most mild form of anaphylaxis I've ever heard of. The food tasted good, although a little greasy. My poached eggs were done perfectly. I appreciated the tomatoes instead of toast. They don't have any option to "upgrade" to gluten free toast. The atmosphere was fine, although not calming. I've heard it has a great patio, but that was not something we were seeking out on a rare cooler morning in summer. I would not go back. I enjoyed the company of my friend and appreciated the heartfelt birthday wishes she received from the server.

The wife and I stopped in one Friday night to check out this place. The interior looked warm and clean. We were greeted and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. We were asked to wait and after having to other people inquire if we were there to dine, the first staff member finally took us to a table. This is where it gets interesting! The corner they stuck us in, the overhead light was not working which made it very difficult to read the menu. After finally ordering. The waitress came back and ask if I was sure if I wanted the bottle of wine I had just ordered. Then proceeded to stick the menu in front of me as if she thought I might have a problem with the price, really? Wow! I explained to her that I indeed wanted the wine and didn't need to see the price as I already looked at the menu and ordered. During our meal we were never asked how everything was and didn't see our waitress at our table again until I stopped her for our check. We felt totally embarrassed by the whole visit! I expect that level of service from a dive, not a supposedly decent dinning establishment! Was it how we looked or dressed? Perhaps, I hope not! The only bright spot was the food was very good. Overall I give a 3 out of 10, only because of the food. The service was atrocious! I believe in supporting local businesses and also giving second chances, I may try another visit, hopefully it will be a better experience. Fingers crossed.

First 5-star review EVER.I've been going there for 6 months and it's been open for less than a year. First review. I don't even give 4 star reviews likely. Luxurious ambience, great cooks, extraordinary serving personnel, best patio in the city and I don't have any shares in the company! lol Seriously now I'm a daily fixture there. I spoke to the owner Kerry yesterday. He is an entrepreneur's entrepreneur. He is constantly at people's side asking how food and service is/was. I mean does that with genuine empathy and zero hype and and desire to please that I haven't seen for years in Winnipeg. There are too many personnel to name Great portions with consistent service. Try the breakfast specials.8-12 Mon-Sun. Ridiculously cheap and exceedingly good. The ten oz Flame burger is the best in the city. Plus there's an even bigger Burger. And huge steaks! Best calamari I've tasted for a Yes, and I've tried all the "trendies" Only one gripe.... Not enough to lose a star. Charging for grilled onions on the Flame Burger. But even with that the meat quality is superlative and not overdone like most premium burger joints. I grew up next to my uncle's cattle operation. We know good meat! Plus it's right on Portage Ave. Barely west of the Grace Hospital. Please don't all come at once.

Went here for my father in laws birthday dinner. Came in the whole dining area was completely dark all windows were shut and couldn’t even see the menu. Expecting the food to be as good as what the reviews said but unfortunately it was not. My spaghetti pasta was over cooked, the meat balls were over cooked and looked burnt. Very very dry!! And pasta sauce was a bit bland didn’t seem authentic at all. Breadsticks were bit dry and didn’t seem like it was fresh like other restaurants serve it. I tried my mother in laws prime rib and bland a bit I like prime rib with gravy but I don’t think there was gravy. Hard to tell. My husbands burger bun was dry all around and the beef patty was not juicy. Again, overcooked. The closest thing to what was pretty good was the Cesar salad and that too was on the saltier side. Sad to say but there are far better restaurants with better chefs. And the air circulation was annoying, first it got so hot then temperature dropped and got cold then got hot again like a sauna. Pretty odd. Ps waited for over an hour for our food.

Sadly had a bad experience. We had a waitress who rushed to get us in and out, Trying to take away our half finished meals asking “if we’re done yet” when we had gotten the plate 5 minutes before. Took away our appetizer and crushed it with a plate before we were finished and when we said we weren’t done, offered to put it back down after the chips were all crushed. I went to the bathroom and the waitress tried taking away my entire meal while I was gone. She could not wait to get us out of there. We were becoming miserable at how rushed we were it almost felt like a cruel joke. NOT to mention, she asked us what we wanted for dessert and then gave us the bill so we couldn’t order anything else. Spinach dip was cold, tasted fine. T-bone steak had great flavour but was tough. Because of the terrible service alone, and the mediocre food I would never go back. And if you’ve made it this far, know I’ve never left a bad review in my life but this experience pushed me over the edge.

We walk in and the atmosphere is great good music has a nice vibe. Then we go and get seated we weren't offered to sit in the lounge and we were put in the middle of 3 tables with ppl at them where the rest of the restaurant was empty. Had to ask to sit else where and they said we don't have many other options and the server did not have a good vibe at all. We order and server seems annoyed. We get our food there's a huge hair right on top of the dish if the server looked at it he would have seen it. I point it out he takes it and turns around doesn't even say sorry just goes to get a new one. The Cutlery was dirty, napkins were filled with hair. We get new food and the coleslaw is warm. Even at the bottom it was warm. Taste of everything was mediocre. Then he brings us the bill and it's full price. After all that a full price bill ain't right. I'm disappointed.

Me and My Best friend went on a Girls Date to Crok & Flame for Drinks and Appitzers in the evening. When we enter the restaurant there was a strong odor not sure what it was it continue to the washroom too , hopefully they wil fix that. The lounge area was tight had high chairs and tables and loud Screens with sports. There was a dinning area as well for intimate dinner. We sat at the lounge area it was getting little loud when its pack so if you want to have a quiet dinner just ask for the dinning area. There was live music with some Jazz and pop mix it was so lovely. ordered appetizers and cocktails. Food tasted delicious, Cocktail was super. Our server was so friendly and kind. The Owner came to us and greeted us i thought that was very nice . We will sure come again for summer to enjoy the patio area.

We went here for dinner while our daughter was across the street at an escape room. The atmosphere is very cozy and cottage feeling with a.good open space. When we arrived it prior to the start of dinner rush so conversation over the table was easy but as the room filled the volume grew and it became more difficult to have a casual conversation. The service was quick and friendly. The server had very good knowledge of the menu items. We had the steak bits to start and they were excellent. I had the french onion soup and it was very hot and flavorful perfect for this cold day. We ordered the chicken Parm with lemon potato's and the lobster ravioli. The flavors tasted great and we both ended up swapping half though because of how much we enjoyed each other's food. I can't wait to return.

We had a lovely experience at Cork and Flame. The owner was wonderful and came around to check on us a number of times throughout the evening. The servers were on top of everything and always available for questions or to drop off drinks/food. We had a small issue with our steak and the head chef immediately came to the table to fix it. Overall, excellent customer service. There was live music on the lounge side - it made for a great atmosphere. The food was very good. I can’t say enough about the prime rib dinner. It was absolutely delicious! The fries were seasoned great and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The Greek salad was incredible! We will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu. Suggestion - make a reservation on Saturday night - the place was packed! Thanks for the great experience!

We arrived for our family gathering, had reservations and everything but still didn't have a server or let alone anyone try serve us, lucky they have an awesome bartender Dusty who went out of his way to serve our family of 11, we all wore our orange shirts and ribbon skirts for the occasion. At some point I opened the blinds cause was dark atmosphere and wanted them to see us, we were seated in the middle while others servers took care of others, not sure why we weren't given another server and not the bartender, sorry the service was horrible not even worth the 1 star. Food was amazing as the cook came to talk with us about our experience. Was very expensive for the cheap service we got.

Some friends and I went here last night. I'm always try to find these self made places. Im not a fan of franchise food and its harder and harder find unique places to go. We seen this while driving and wanted to check it out. This place was very busy and we had no reservation. They where still very accommodating. Very nice people. Great atmosphere when you walk in. That soft light out door patio was amazing. Service was super friendly, the food was excellent. Fresh vegetables, the ribeye was cooked med rare perfect. Service was little slow. Not sure if it was cause they where just super busy, maybe receiving from dinner rush or what was what. But was worth the wait. I'm definitely going to be back, there is alot more on that menu we want to try. Thanks for having us last night!

  • greg johnston

I was there recently. I must say the hostess was very friendly. Had two waitresses, each walk by me twice, without any acknowledgement,gestures,etc... They seemed to be more interested in cleaning tables than serving me. A male server then came over and served me after awhile (10 minutes) and apologized to me. I am not sexist by the way. They were not busy at this time. The breakfast was good and reasonably priced. The potatoes were good. It was a good and bad experience to me. I must admit it was my first time here. I was a regular back, years ago, when it was called something else and different ownership. I doubt I will be back.

As the owner has a Kevin Klein sign in front of the restaurant, I am not coming to the restaurant again. Online doesn't work. I never received an activation link. Emailed the info email address. I never got a response. The girl at the front entrance was learning a new computer but was rude to me. The restaurant is very popular in the neighborhood. I won't eat take-out again. September 23rd, 2023, will be my last visit.

Me and my dad have been to Winnipeg many times and have eaten at different places but never at Cork & Flame but today we decided to try it and it was amazing, every aspect of it from the food to the service. Our waitress was a lady named Stacey F. and again I can’t say enough good things about her because she was great, very friendly and charming and had a great attitude with a smile on her face at all times. As far as food goes I had the fettuccine Alfredo with the chicken on a skewer and it was so good very filling and my dad had the prime rib short ribs and he said they where quite good. We will be back for sure.

I do not normally leave Google reviews but this restaurant is so amazing with their service. From the entrance, we were greeted by Kelly Rae, then got assisted by Carol. We got the Tomahawk Steak (To die for!) and the Baby Back Ribs with a massive serving. FOOD was so delicious. To top it up, Kiri checked how's our food and gave us a complimentary dessert - Yummy Apple Crisp as an anniversary gift. This is what you call EXCELLENT Customer Service. Happy to celebrate our Anniversary here. We'll be back for that prime rib . Kudos everyone!

It was okay, pretty slow on the food and drinks, a little over priced since the food was average (my husband’s steak was for sure overdone). Main concern was virgin drink came with tequila (I was very clear it had to be virgin since I am 7 months pregnant) I sent it back and the waitress did apologize and confirmed it was her error not the bar but thought at the least they would not have charged for my replacement drink and probably should have sent a manager over. Accidentally serving a person alcohol (and that being figured out by the person by drinking the alcohol) is a pretty huge error, especially when pregnant.

Been here a number of times both in the lounge when have live music and for dinners in the main dining area. Never disappointed! Top level of service and cleanliness. Fancy without being too pricey or pretentious with great portions, traditional Greek dishes (the Avgolemono soup is awesome!) and includes some nice Vegetarian dishes. The Roast Eggplant is a favorite! Haven't tried the patio yet but intend to soon.

Went recently for lunch. Waited quite a while at the entrance to be seated despite it not being busy. Server was in the back somewhere, the manager/owner was apologetic for the delay. Environment was a bit cold. Menu options for meals was a bit limited for lunch time. Server was nice, answered our questions. We had wings to start, the steak sandwich, and the fish and chips. I had also ordered a side caeser salad, but it never came. It wasn't on the bill so I think the server just forgot to enter the order or didn't hear me ask for it. Food was fine, served hot, but just average. The fries were bland, we both said we wouldn't have them again. Overall the experience was okay.

The latest re-incarnation of this location offers an assortment of classic menu items. From Denver sandwiches to burgers, the stand out without question were the French fries. Thick cut style, they're served GBD... that is to say, Golden Brown and Delicious, with an absolutely fluffy pillowy core that represent all that is good in this world. The wait staff are dressed for success and a special shout out to the statuesque and delightful Tracy, who was attentive and engaging. The main grumble I would have is the parking situation, which was tight to navigate. But all in all, a great lunch place if you're in the west-end.

This place was amazing!!!! I’m not the easiest girl to please when it comes to going out to eat. I love to cook myself and I love healthy foods. My partner and I rented and air bnb about a 25 min walk away and there were other restaurants along the way but I had done some research prior to leaving and this place really caught my eye. The service was amazing so was the atmosphere and the food WOW just WOW. We will be back that’s for sure.

Food was honestly disappointing. I was expecting a lot better considering the reviews. The steak wasn't even a good quality cut, the veggies were from a frozen mix, the only thing good was the mashed potatoes. The lemon potatoes were disgusting, like someone just squirted a lot of lemon juice on them and called it a day. Overall I am disappointed in the quality of the meal, and my advice to the kitchen staff is to use fresh ingredients and no concentrate. Pricing should reflect good quality food. No love put into that food at all!

Pros: good upscale dining. Great breakfast for a great price. Great patio. Great cocktail selection with a. Fine bartender. Large menu with something for everyone. Cons: very pricey lunch and dinner (even for what you get, especially at lunch) so come with $$ your pocket. Chronically understaffed so hour long waits for breakfast, even during down times, have been typical for us. Not a big deal at dinner. Lounge doesn’t have much for specials anymore. Recommended eats : breakfast (especially seafood skillet), Salmon Wellington, Caesar salad (of the best around).

Nice large patio, good portion sizes and friendly staff. There was live entertainment on the patio on the evening we were there which was ok but a bit too loud, as live entertainment often is. The food was good. I had the lamb shank, which were ok but didn't taste like it was made fresh in house, and garlic mash which was tasty. The side tossed salad was a little strange with quite a lot of almonds and dried cranberries. Top marks for friendly service and nice atmosphere.

I first discovered the restaurant during Le Burger Week, when the Cherry Bomb burger was featured. While the burger is still on the menu, it is not made the same as it was during the event. It is, however, still quite delicious. The curried cauliflower soup was to die for. I was served the wrong soup initially but the waitress realized before I could say anything and was eager to correct the situation. The restaurant offers an adorable, comfy patio with live music, perfect for lazy Friday evening appetizers or an intimate date night.

Visit here on Saturday I had New York sirloin with lemon potatoes and lemon rice chicken soup (Greek) potatoes had too much lemon. Steak fantastic melts in your mouth. My partner had all you can eat ribs too much barbecue sauce on it. We sat in the dining room, great music but more light would be better so we can read the menu. I was so looking forward to brunch here.. a change from pancakes! What a disappointment! Out of 4 orders, 3 were only slightly warmer than room temperature. The server perhaps had too many tables therefore no opportunity to tell her until the bill was presented. Further, there were flies bothering us. Also only able to discuss with server until bill presentation. I think these shortcomings deserve more attention than "I'll bring this to someone's attention" Coffee included was a plus and it was good.

We have been irregular regulars for a long time. Went this morning, and one of our favorite servers from another restaurant (Sabrina) is now here, and they have enhanced their menu! Win, win... We walked in and we’re greeted with a friendly smile and seated promptly. There’s definitely nothing unique about the atmosphere but its cozy. There was nice live music in the lounge area. Service was fast and friendly and once we ordered, the drinks, salad and appetizers started coming and timed well. I ordered the sirloin with shrimp Oscar and although I found the steak a little tough it was cooked perfectly and the Oscar was delicious. My wife had the shrimp and liked it. Great beverages and an all around great experience. Very good service!

Wow. Took a stab at this place and was pleasantly surprised. Food was superb! Came out fast and was as tasty as described. We had two different chicken items and both were perfect! Very friendly staff, going for larger portions than average restaurant, and an open ambiance. Aiming for 30 plus crowd. Tried a flame burger and it was huge plus I loved the really large fries that came with it. The dining area is a lot fancier than the bar area and I heard they plan on developing their patio area much more. They are around a month old and still refining and defining themselves so if you don't like something and have a reasonable suggestion let them know before things get too hard to change later.

This place exceeded all expectations. Got the Prime Rib (their specialty that is only served Friday and Saturday) and received the roast pictured below. Service was lovely, atmosphere casual, and just a great space to be. If you're heading to the Keg, the Olive Garden of steak houses, just keep driving down the road to this place and get a meal made with some real care. Oh, and the sizzling apple crisp is the real deal. Don't skip it.

Just a place trying to be more than they are. Beef barley soup was lack lustre, calamari was oily and small portion, shrimp meal was plain breaded no flavour. Steaks looked good though. Called ahead to see if prime rib was on Sunday and they said yes so booked a bday dinner. Got there, no prime rib, no French onion soup, no salmon… half the items on the menu weren’t available lol. If you like a good Caesar, they've got the best on in the city! Excellent food, friendly staff, good environment. Only complaint was the long wait time between when we sat down to when we got our drink orders taken, between drink and food orders and to when we got our food. Wasn't busy so it should have been quicker. Less wait time and I would easily bump up to a 5 star. Would recommend.

The atmosphere was electric. The food was delicious, and as a picky person, I enjoyed my pecan crusted chicken.. I just have one little issue to speak on. We had to wait for our table, and then waited a long time for the food. But other than, the food was amazing!!

We all ordered the all you can eat BBQ ribs special for $30 per person. Excellent deal (dollar value) when I believe the regular price for one serving was $36. The ribs (regular or Greek flavoured) tasted absolutely fabulous!!! It included a soup or salad and side accompaniments of choice of potato (3 options) or rice and vegetables. As well the ambiance was pleasant and very nice and the service was top notch.

My parents ate here this morning and they absolutely loved it. They don’t know how to do a google review so they asked me post one. They got two eye opener breakfasts for $16 and that includes bottomless coffee. Everything was fresh and hot. A fresh pot of decaf was made for them. The staff was accommodating and you can tell the owner is in the building. Great value!

Great Patio, and wonderful service. The restaurant has upscale / fine dining feel. We went on a Sunday Night after a long week for a treat. Some of their best menu items are only available on Fridays and Saturdays. The food was okay/good. We would eat there again, but compared to some of the other restaurants and chefs in the city that I will give 5 stars to, I can only give these folks 4.

The service we received and the food was great! I’m giving a rating of 1 star because we overheard loud and clear the owner berating a staff member about not doing a good job, the staff member visibly upset and crying. There are better ways to address issues with your staff, and to do it within ear shot of guests is appalling. This guy needs sensitivity training

Went there for lunch after a quick 9 holes of golf. Dined on the patio which is a wonderful place to have lunch. I had the clubhouse sandwich which was brilliant and my friends bought the calamari dish which they thought was one of the best in the city. If you're on the patio you must order the 32 oz of Long Island Iced Tea. Great way to spend the rest of the afternoon.

A truly exceptional five star dining experience. Amazing cocktails. Beautiful ambience. Live music in the lounge. The steaks were amazing followed by one of the most delicious apple crisps I’ve ever had. One of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg.

This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, good music, and our server was wonderful. While the portions were quite large, the French fries came out cold and a little soggy and the chicken was dry. The other meal ordered was good, despite the same French fry issues (cold and soggy).

We had dinner for our birthdays. My wife ordered the Salmon Wellington, stuffed with cream cheese and spinach. Delicious!!! I ordered the 12 ounce ribeye steak. Perfectly prepared and tender beyond expectations. The double baked potatoes were great. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went for lunch and both our meals were nice and came quickly. Service was friendly. The dinner menu looked good so might try again one evening. It was quiet the day we went, with lots of room to spread out, so I was a little annoyed that we were seated right next to a larger loud group.

Good food, huge portions, and probably the best service out here in Winnipeg. Every little thing down to the desserts are made in-house by their amazing chefs. You can also tell how happy the chefs/servers are. Says a lot about management!
