Azuki Bakery in Newtown is a hidden gem, and I had the pleasure of trying some of their food! There's a remarkable variety of items to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for something savory or sweet, you won't be disappointed. The Curry pan, Yakisoba pan, and the Kimchi pork sausage roll were all delicious. We also got the Uji Matcha Roll and Basque Yuzu Cheesecake! Located close to Newtown station, this bakery offers quality at a very reasonable price. While seating may be limited outside, it's a minor given how hard it is to find Japanese food like this in Australia! The staff were friendly and efficient. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Japanese bakery experience in Sydney.

Fluffy & sweet bread, crispy curry bread and karage chicken. I like the bitterness of the matcha melon bread, which is a great balance with the sweetness. Also love the subtle yuzu flavour in the Baseque cheese cake. Update Apr 23’ The texture of their curry puff is so nice: crispy kastu-style coated bun, slightly sweet, nice contrast with the fluffy soft inside of the bun. Update May 23’ Yuzu donut has such nice sour and sweet cream filling. The dough is soft and it’s not too sweet. Second time having the fish burger, so juicy (tar tar sauce) and crispy at the same time. The slaw inside is crunchy and goes well with the crispy fish. Also love how much sesame it is over the whole bun.

After withdrawals from Kare Pan (curry pan) in japan, I was ecstatic to find that Enmore has such a great Japanese bakery offering really delicious, locally made Kare pan! The place is small and cute, and they bake everything on site. We got there in time for some hot Kare pan freshly cooked- crispy, chewy and really addictive curry inside. The kare pan is behind the counter, so don’t fret if you don’t see it in the main display. We also tried the sausage wrapped in pastry- also very yummy. There are so many more sweet and savoury options- so I will be going back! Great coffee and lovely service too

Just a short walk from Newtown station, this bakery is exceptional quality for the price point. There is limited seating outside, but to be honest that isn't really a super important consideration in the grand scheme of things. Staff are fast with orders and there is heaps of variety despite the small store front. Savoury and sweet items are tasty regardless and the cream puffs in particular have an addictive quality to them making you want more than just 1! Definitely a highly recommended for others to visit it they haven't yet, and will definitely return to drop by on the future.

Where to start, my mate today took me to this Bakery. My first impression was it was pretty small walked in and when I saw the cakes and the Deserts, didn’t care about the size of the place, Didn’t know where to begin so my mate recommended me the custard puff and a strawberry cake .Let me tell you it was amazing he got me hooked, Customer service was just amazing very friendly always smiling very bubbly. I highly recommend it For friends, families of all ages to come down and give this ago, you will not regret it...

I cannot recommend this place enough! The staff are incredibly friendly and seem genuinely happy to be there. The pastries themselves are delicious and very reasonably priced, considering the wonderful quality! It's a small little shop, but it's filled to the brim with delicious items. They often sell brand new desserts and you can keep up to date with what's on offer through their social media, namely Instagram. Please give these guys a try! The lady who served me when I visited was very kind and friendly.

Small cute shop specialize in Japanese breads & cakes! Located in Enmore Rd, Newtown! They sell artisan quality baked goods! from bread to cakes also some tasty coffee ☕️ Dont forget to try the melon pan (Japanese sweetbun) crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside!! so yummm!! (Chocochip one is my favourite) The shop is quiet small so it will be a bit packed inside when got busy!! Worth to try!!! ❤️ Definitely will comeback to try other stuff! ✨

This cafe offers delicately baked treats that you can't find on George St Sydney CBD with the same quality. This place really breathes authenticity and quality, not quantity. I grew up with fresh cream cake with fruits and this place just hit the spot with strong memories of Japan. I would recommend their first bread also, very Japanese and deliciously soft. Their mochi red bean was a surprise and not bad if you're into that. Their Matcha bread roll slice is highly recommended. I drool about it !!

Best bakery in Sydney. If you love Japanese desserts and bakery goods this is the place to be. My friends and I have been addicted to this place and we order 1-2 rounds in a single sitting. I can't reccomend this place enough we go every week. Our go to favourites are the curry puffs (beef and veggie) The matcha melon pan, sesame & matcha cream puffs and the strawberry mochi. The hojicha or matcha oat latte is a must. I'm already salvating talking about it! This place is a no brainer in Sydney!

Yes! Strawberry shortcake!! This is really good. The strawberries are fresh, cream is nice and not too sweet. The sponge’s the important bit, where it’s not sugary and is springy. It’s nice to find a place that does traditional Japanese bakery bread, like yakisoba buns and melon buns. I love how there’s no onions that are visible in this yakisoba, and the mustard seeds are a great addition. Bread is nice and soft! Coffee is not too bad, Milk Lab almond milk is used, so that’s really good.

Great and reasonably priced bread, I want to go there again for the curry bread and the cake. The atmosphere was nice and warm, the location also easy to reach from Newtown train station. The choice here is broad, I even confused when I got here, because all of them looks delicious, so I tried the matcha and milky melon bread (I forgot the exact name), and it was so good. I really curious about the salty breads, especially the curry one. Must try.

  • Princess Greedyguts

a small little Japanese bakery on busy Enmore next to Stinking Bishops & Hakiki Ice cream. There is a range or sweet & savoury breads/pastries, cakes & cookies. I tried the yakosoba pan - fried noodles in a long bread roll. Tasty but a little strange. The strawberry sponge cake was light & fluffy & not too sweet which was enjoyable. The matcha swiss roll was also light and had good matcha flavour which was lovely. Staff is very friendly & helpful.

  • MSS Chen

Bought the matcha melon pan and curry beef pan. Would recommend the latter, the panko exterior was crisp, the dough was fluffy, and the curry mince was very comforting The matcha melon pan was okay tho, the top was just sugary crumbly without the crunch and the matcha cream in middle was a bit too thick for my liking. The bread itself was still very fluffy though, from what I have read from the other comments maybe the original is the best.

  • Winda Laurensia

Best Japanese bakery in town in my opinion. Love their Shokupan, you can eat it as is (it's already so good by itself, so you know how good it is!), or use whatever topping you like. I'd recommend getting their beef curry pan (the bread's so fluffy!!) & melon pan as well. Won't go wrong to order some cakes as well. I like their Chestnut Mont Blanc. Another plus point is that all those won't break your bank, it's reasonably priced.

  • Irune As

pleasant Japanese bakery :) bf said plain melon bread was the best. Matcha had a strong matcha flavour. I enjoyed azuki matcha bun.. very soft bun with fat fillings of red bean paste inside + 2 mochi rice balls .. Food overall on the sweet side for me. Looking forward to try other breads next time :3.. I was curious about the Yuzu doughnut.. but I couldnt eat more than two on the same day .. It went down to bf's stomach.

  • Chanaka Hettige

The cakes by Azuki is very soft and melts in your mouth that you'll love it through and through. The ordering process is quite straight forward over the website and don't let the low quality photos on the web fool you. They are just as great as you can imagine. The team is very responsive and will coordinate with you over emails if you want to make any changes. Highly recommend for the service and the quality of the products.

Very cute Japanese bakery located in Newtown. Definitely recommend going earlier in the day as there was almost nothing left at 4:30pm. We got matcha lattes which were delicious. However the chestnut Mont Blanc lacked flavour as the chestnut wasn’t strong enough. The vegetable curry pan was pretty good too with a good curry flavour, and we were able to ask them to heat it up for us.

  • YW

Lovely Japanese cakes and friendly staff. The texture of the sponge cake was light and fluffy. The cream wasn't too sweet and was perfect with strawberries. It's hard to find a good Japanese strawberry cake in Sydney. The Mont Blanc was more on the sweet side but I love the strong chestnut flavor in the puree. The small matcha cake under it added to the texture.

I would always stop here when I'm near the area and make a large purchase. Why? Because the curry pan is the bomb!!! The curry pan satisfies my cravings whenever I think about the ones I had in Japan. What makes it different from other breads is the mochi like and fluffy texture whenever you bite into it I hope they open up more stores one day.

  • Jessie

Divine... I could eat Azuki's mochi over & over again. I love the cream that they use, it's not too greasy, sweet or artificial. You can't go wrong with most of their food! We are blessed to have a high quality Japanese bakery like this in Sydney. (... But to nitpick, the mont blanc would be nicer if it was a bit more moist; less meringue perhaps!)

  • R Y

I can't reccommend this japanese bakery highly enough! It just brings back all the good memories we had back in Japan.. staff are so courteous❤ We love every bread/pastry we bought..just the right amount of sweetness, I could tell they use good quality matcha.. my favourite are the savoury ones esp. the beef curry pan and mentaiko …

  • Ishanthi Gunawardana

This is one of our favourite bakeries in Sydney. The kransky in puff pastry and the creme anglaise-filled profiterole were excellent. The almond croissant and matcha were a little dry but was still delicious. Their sourdough bread is also very good in taste and texture. With friendly staff to boot, what’s not to love?

  • Gerard

Can order the puffs over the counter, you won't be able to collect them on your own. Would not recommend the custard puff as it was bland, the curry puff at least turned things around.

I would argue this is my favourite bakery in Sydney. A great selection of sweet and savoury baked goods. Their matcha lattes and yuzu soda are great. My top recommendations are: Azuki pan (red bean) Matcha melon bun Yuzu doughnut Beef curry pan (order behind the counter) Not many seats to sit here and eat.

  • Roland Zhang

Another lesson in don't trust everything you see on social media. "Ichigo Mochi" Mochi: A, 7/10. Was disappointed to find out this was not a rice cake pastry but a mochi wrapped cream puff. Filling: S, 8/10. Fruity and not overly sweet. Value: B-, 5.5/10. $8 per is borderline robbery. Overall: B+, 6.5/10

  • Tina S

My partner bought a box of 5 assorted flavour as after dinner dessert. They are too appealing to remember to take a photo shot. My friends had few bites already. These cakes have the amazing texture and sweetness. If you are cheese lover and you can try that cheese cake, creamy and cheesy.

  • Vi T

Highly recommend the yuzu donut, black sesame cream puff, bacon twist and fish sandwich. The yuzu soda drink is quite refreshing but nothing fancy.

Only down side is how small this place is. I wish it was alot bigger. With Covid restrictions only two people are allowed inside at a time. Food was amazing though! More vegetarian options would be good however sweet options are available, and the baugettes are to die for.

  • E Teo

Had the Strawberry Layer Cake and Mochi Ichigo - The cake was soft, fluffy, and not overly sweet. Mochi Ichigo was superb and delicious. We ordered two coffees and they were served at perfect temperature. Will definitely be back to try some Azuki pan and Match Azuki pan.

  • C Y

Amazing Japanese bakery. The curry pan was so flavoursome - highly recommended. Melon pan was decent but probably the most average out of the sweets. The uji matcha roll, chestnut Mont Blanc, strawberry mochi were all so good in their own way - 10/10 would return.

  • Priscilla Boswell

Great Japanese pastries, I was pleasantly surprised about how good it is even though I’m not much of a pastry person. They have good selection of tea and coffee too. Would recommend this place though it’s pretty small and doesn’t have a lot of sitting areas.

  • Jenny Xia

I love this Japanese Bakery Delicious pastries and cakes. My favourites are the Strawberry Mochi, Mont Blanc and puffs plus everything else or anything Matcha The service is so friendly and welcoming ❤️ Highly recommended

  • Woodmember

Best Japanese Strawberry sponge in Sydney. In fact, might even be better than the best I have had in Japan. They also sell some great Curry Pan. One of the few places in the country that sell it. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

First time trying - we had mochi and azuki bun (red bean bun). Bread was chewy with good amount of red bean inside. Mochi had lots of cream inside which tasted like it was made with natural strawberries. Price is ok. A few outdoor tables to sit.

  • Trang Le

A must try Japanese bakery place in Newtown. We tried Melon pan, Uji matcha rolls and Yuzu cheesecake today and they were all nice. The Melon pan was buttery and the matcha rolls were deep in matcha flavour and creamy. The shop participates

  • Aileen Inez Widjaja

I bought the melon pan, matcha choux, and matcha roll. All I have to say is that everything was awesome! If you are a matcha lover, you definitely have to go here. Going back soon to try the matcha melon pan and matcha azuki bun!

  • Daniel K

Great spot to stop by for Japanese inspired cakes and coffee if you are in Newtown. Service and food was great. Only call out is that seating is limited to about three tables outside so it mainly caters towards takeaway.

  • Joseph Yuen

I went on a high school exchange to Japan and the breads here was very nostalgic to the bakeries I enjoyed in the regional town near Tokyo! Pricey but quite legitimate and tasty. Especially recommend the Yakisoba Pan!

  • G MV

Authentic Japanese bakery serving delicious pastries and desserts. The service is friendly and warm. Price is reasonable and the quality is second to none. Keep an eye on their special dishes. Highly recommended.

  • Eric Lai

Quaint little bakery, with a section for baked goods that you pick out with nicely sanitised tongs and trays. The kimchi sausage roll is unique and delicious (pictured) the melon pan was also quite good. …

  • Joyce Qiu

One of my favourite bakeries in Sydney. Very authentic Japanese products. Highly recommend the kare pan (curry bread), fish burger and the chestnut Mont Blanc. Everything is fresh, and the service is excellent.

  • CJ C

Yuzu cheesecake was moist and tasty but the yuzu taste wasn't as strong. Matcha puff was tasty. The melon pan was average. Overall, tasty but no wow factor. And really overpriced especially for the melon pan.

  • Patricia T

Tried a few items from their menu. Tastes good but nothing very amazing. Still tasty though! I thought the mont blanc would be a bit better than what I thought. Out of the items I tried, I like the melon pan.

  • Greg Eyre

The Strawberry Cake we ordered was the highlight for our dinner guests. Will definitely have to try the B-road selection of other delights! There’s parking available on the side streets and around the back.

  • Jenny Ngo

Great service from Japanese speaking staff. All bread and cake products are delicious. The savoury breads (mentai-bread & yakisoba) is not as good as their sweets, but the bread used is still well-made.

  • w mulia

Azuki bakery is always on top of my list to go when in Sydney. Great service and high quality pastries. Authentic flavour and fairly priced. Really love the spicy curry puff. Totally recommend!

  • Robert Tyler

For the savoury part, I would recommend getting the beef curry pan. It’s truely amazing, fluffy and great taste. On the sweet side, my favourite was the black sesame puff and the mochi ichigo.

  • Ives Eats

Went on Sun 14/08/22 and was told strawberry mochi has been discontinued!? Was looking forward to tried it as heard great things. Tried Chestnut mont blanc & matcha puff and both were nice.

their mont blanc and black sesame pastry were bland, the cream just overwhelming which took over the chestnut flavor. they curry pan was so so, but I love the freshness.

  • Just Benzo

Only visiting Sydney but breakfast was a must two days straight. The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing. We'll be back next time we're in the area. サンキュー !
