Myself and my partner were fortunate enough to be the pet-parents to a wonderful, but sickly, elderly cat called Albert. Albert's visits were incredibly frequent as his condition deteriorated, but the staff at VCA made sure it was always as easy as possible, and we got to know all of them well over Albert's final months. Each and every staff member (front of house, vet techs and the Dr's – all of them) consistently went above and beyond to deliver the highest quality of care to both Albert and to us. Due to his FIV status, and numerous health issues when we adopted him, we'd never managed to insure Albert. However, VCA were incredibly sensitive to this and always staggered diagnostics and treatment plans to ensure we methodically tried options before just going for a huge upfront spend on everything. We used their in-house Care Club plan designed to support pet-parents with elderly and uninsured animals – I can't even calculate how much we must have saved with this plan and the staff helping us to manage our treatment approach in-line with the plan. Beyond just diagnostic work and treatment plans, Albert also received dental surgery with VCA. Dr Vasilescu did a fantastic job and Albert's surgeries and recoveries went very smoothly. Finally, Albert came to the end of his journey recently. Myself & my partner decided euthanasia would be the kindest option due to Albert's overwhelming health concerns in his final months. It was an incredibly hard to decision to make, and I cannot overstate how the balanced, carefully given advice of the VCA team allowed us to reach that decision. I have to stress that it was solely our choice, but one in which we felt very supported by the information and care we'd been given. The appointment itself was as sad as you'd imagine, but could not have been calmer or more peaceful for Albert due to the professionalism of everyone involved. He was calm and relaxed in his final moments and for that alone the VCA team will always be heroes to me. When we feel ready to commit ourselves to a new family member, we will definitely be coming back to VCA Vancouver Animal Wellness.

This hospital is very clean and modern and beautiful. The staff, in particular the ladies at the front desk are very nice. My reason for three stars is due to their communication. I phoned them in advance of my coming down to tell them that my dog had a dental injury. They told me to come in. I didn’t mind waiting if I thought my dog was being treated. About 3 1/2 hours after I arrived, they asked if I would like for them to administer pain medication. I told them to go ahead and handed her over. They brought her back to me about five minutes later and she was breathing incredibly fast. They told me that it was normal because she was on methadone. They then proceeded to tell me that they don’t do dental treatments at the hospital at all. I told them that I was going to leave and take my dog somewhere else and they said I couldn’t leave because my dog was now on medication and under their care. There are two things that I wish had happened: the person who answered the phone should have told me that they don’t do dental treatments but that they could give her pain medication. An even better option would have been to pick some medication up and treat her at home until she can see her regular vet for surgery the next day. The second communication breakdown was not telling me they were putting her on such a strong opioid. My dog has a heart murmur and would have been much better off taking something orally and resting at home until I could take her to the vet in the morning instead of being terrified and confused in a strange place. I was there for about seven hours in total and I left with a dog that still had to get treatment elsewhere the next morning. I wish they had communicated more with me about what they can and can’t do so that I knew what to expect.

Taking your pet to the emergency is one of the scariest and most helpless you can feel. You become your own EMT and ambulance. I've been to other animal hospitals before (one in my hometown and then the one on Fraser and near 30th) and this one is truly amazing. The front desk are extremely kind and understanding. A woman came in to pick up her cat's ashes, very distressed, and the front desk was very gentle and soft spoken when helping her out. My own experience was also very good. I brought my cat in without calling - she had suffered a seizure and in between calling an uber and making sure I had pants on I couldn't make the call - and still they were kind and helped me. The vet on shift was extremely knowledgeable and clearly cared about helping my cat. Before I left, as I had to have her stay overnight for monitoring, the vet allowed me to see her again and hold her. I never could have imagined such kind and humane treatment at an animal hospital. Allowing me to see her was likely due to their level of congestion and might not be available for everyone but it truly made me feel better. I was recommended this hospital by my main clinic and I do not regret it at all.

Although they do provide good care, this vet is a bit over-prized (but conveniently located) and very impersonal. To me it seems, my pets are really is just any patients among hundreds. I never get the same Dr which for me is quite frustrating. They don't care if you go elsewhere (maybe because they have enough business). I wanted a simple rabies vaccine and it would have been around $180. I had been there several times before spending (for me) a lot of money and asked them to not do a full checkup ($105) but a re-check ($55). My dog had been there within the last 12 months and was and is perfectly healthy. They wouldn't do it and told me that I should go somewhere else to get it cheaper. That is what I am going to do. Another time, my cat had a runny nose and they quoted me all possible tests etc. for about $1400 which was shocking! It was hard to pick out from all the options. I went with a test and some antibiotics and it ended up being $600. He got over it with the antibiotics and the test showed he had some kind of cat flu. The biggest part however, why I am not going back there is because they are so impersonal and are not responsive to their customers pleas.

Very expensive and very interventionist. I finally got sick of shelling out vast amounts of money and went to Vancouver Veterinary Hospital (VVH) instead. At VAWH, I spent $1,200 on tests and specialist visits for my cat in the space of 4 weeks, only to have the specialist tell me there was nothing much the matter with her. Then they wanted to refer her to yet ANOTHER specialist, still in the space of these 4 weeks, at which point I took her to VVH for a second opinion, where they again said there was nothing much the matter with her. VAWH vets seem to think if you have pet insurance you’ll be happy to pay for any and every intervention. I’ll get 80% of my $1,200 back from the insurance, but that’s still $240 I could’ve spent on something useful. Plus, my poor cat gets very stressed out when she has to go to the vet. Why should I keep tormenting her with invasive tests when another vet says she’s perfectly healthy? Also, VVH is significantly cheaper for dental work, which is not covered by insurance. The waiting room isn’t as fancy as at VAWH, but pets don’t care what the waiting room looks like.

I have been going here for more than 9 years and have received exceptional treatment for my dog by Dr Kramer. I've felt that because I've been given options, I've been able to afford their services and felt that pricing has been fair. However, with pandemic practices and hours in place I now feel that I can no longer come here for my new kitten. They used to be open on weekends and had longer hours for people who work. I've made three appointments. My first was at 5:45pm, second at 4:45 and my next will be at 4:15. Was told each time that their hours are shorter and shorter. I cannot afford to take a lot of time off work especially when you are not open weekends. Pre-pandemic, It also felt more personal. I would see and talk to the vet each time about my dog. I also felt that they really cared for my dog and I'm sure they still do but it's not the same waiting in a parking lot and having almost no time with the vet themselves. The kitten go into the building, the kitten comes out and then I pay and be on my way. It's a shame. Time to find a new vet for my cat.

Having brought my pets to VCA in the past I have learned to trust them with my pets emergency care....until now. Yesterday we were in a panic as our puppy was having seizures at home and we thought he had possibly ingested something. My wife called ahead as I took our guy into VCA. Following covid protocol, I called when I arrived and spoke with reception. I was told a nurse would call me and get my pet in to the doctor. By the time the nurse called (2 hours later) my puppy had stopped convulsing and I took him home. I understand that they were busy last night at VCA but I feel they had a responsibility to let me know they were to busy to provide emergency care for my pet. We could have gone elsewhere. Thankfully my puppy had normalized and will live to see our regular vet for a check up. If he had ingested something extremely toxic he could have died in my car in the parking lot waiting for the nurse to call. I have lost my trust for VCA and will find other emergency care for my pets. They deserve professional care.

A few months ago, my friend recommended this clinic for my cat, since she has been having her dog treated at the clinic a few months before it passed away. I brought in my cat to have her neutered and after a few exams on my cat, Michael Goldbergh, one of the vets at the clinic, told me that my cat has cancer, because he wanted to rip me off!!! It was very hard to believe at first, because I didn’t see any changes in my cat’s appetite or mood. I was very sad and devastated, so I decided to take my cat to another clinic and get a second opinion. At the other clinic, after having her examined, the doctor said that my cat is healthy and she DOES NOT have cancer! Now, 3 months has passed and my cat looks fine and healthy (just like before). So, the vet, Michael Goldbergh, was playing with my cat’s life, just so he can make more money off of it. Clearly, money is WAY more important to MICHAEL GOLDBERGH than our poor animals’ life!! I am glad I got a second opinion and left the clinic for good!

  • Armando Alfonzo

Terrible experience as per my partner - vaccines appear to be 2x+ the price comparatively to other vets around the area, examination fee about 1.41x more here as well relative to other places. Additionally, it appeared that the vet is conditioned to deploy sales and scare tactics to utilize your emotions to increase your vet bill within the same session (eg: nail clipping is only $50.33 if requested during the same appointment which is a discount rate if you commit on the spot). I wish I could get a refund on the initial check up treatment of $132.50 (before taxes) since we've had to switch vets given the lack-lustre experience and did not move forward on any suggestions / consequential treatments. Location is nice which is why I'm giving it 2/5 stars. 624797305 is our invoice number if a refund is to be considered in exchange for this review to be removed - otherwise I hope this helps future clients when selecting a vet for your pet.

It saddens me that after attending this clinic for over 10 years, I've chosen to move on. I used to believe that the extra money was worth it, but none of the vets I used to see are there anymore and I recently experienced a situation that required them to prove their ability to show good customer service. Sadly, not only the receptionist, but the clinic manager, and vet chose to take the prideful route, and attempted to shift the blame so that they didn't have to accept that they'd clearly missed a basic step in their practice. Regardless of whether my issue was valid, the way they handled it showed their true colours. Perhaps the acquisition by VCA of this practice has created this shift in culture. I'm only giving two stars because I adore their vet technicians and I'll be sad not to see them again.

  • Riaz M.

They do not accept new patients, and have no wait list for such, yet keep providing new marketing materials to business partners to give to customers who adopt new pets advising of free post-adoption vet check-ups, etc. This gives the impression that post-adoption care and appointments are accessible, which doesn’t end up being the reality, making it quite stressful for short and long term care and wellness planning. If I had known they would not be available, nor would be in the foreseeable future, I would have planned and researched into finding an alternative vet clinic in advance of the adoption. Please update your website to indicate no more patients are being accepted. Beyond my gripe and complaint, thank you for the good work that you do for our furry (and non-furry) friends!

Amazing staff and Dr. v is great. I'm extremely protective of my dog and who gets to handle her. All the staff made sure both I and the dog were comfortable and were amazing and gentle with my dog. I unfortunately have had to deal with some not so professional vets and I'm super happy that I stumbled upon this clinic and the emergency hospital of the same company. Dr.V is very professional and very thorough. He made sure that I understood what the issues were and gave me options on how to deal with said issues that my dog was having. TLDR: I highly recommend this clinic as well as the emergency hospital of the company. Staff are great with the animals, attentive, and very professional. And the prices are very reasonable compared to some other vets that I have been to.

So far I cannot believe my luck finding VCA Vancouver Animal Wellness Hospital. I started researching vets before getting my puppy and decided to go with VCA because they were in my neighbourhood, friends had recommended them, and their manager who I spoke to on the phone and via email was SO helpful, friendly, and prompt. They offer something called a puppy/kitten Care Club which, for a monthly fee, covers everything you'll need for your pet (exams, nail trim, shots, spay, etc) for a discounted price than paying for each issue individually (they also offer dog/cat Care Club). The vet/technicians/staff are always very patient, knowledgeable, and give me all the information without worry. Thanks so much, you guys!

  • Christian Johannsen

Dr. Goldberg is an excellent veterinarian. He deeply cares for the wellness of the animals in his care. His wellness exams are thorough and informative. Aside from being well versed in homeopathy he's currently also learning chiropractic manipulation techniques for pets. I call this dedication to the veterinary profession. Pricing can be a bit of a shock, but perhaps this is due to the fact that as Canadians we don't usually have to pay for our own visits to the family doctor or hospital. May I remind you of dental surgery? Nevertheless, if you're looking for the best holistic animal wellness hospital in Vancouver, this is it.

  • Jane Hood

I had a very bad experience at this vet yesterday. They seem to use their technicians (and receptionist) to do the work of the vets. The technician I saw was inexperienced and did not seem to have any confidence. I was charged $180 for an initial consultation. My dog continued to be sick that evening (vomiting) so I called back the next morning at 8:30 a.m. and asked to speak to the vet. I was told that Dr. V could not speak with me as he was busy all day with appointments. So now I have no idea whether to continue my dog's medication or not. I will not go back to this vet again - very expensive, uncaring and unprofessional.

  • Melissa Howells

They will find a way to charge you for everything. Turns out (we've recently switched vets) that the meds our cat is on, which are generic, are a quarter of the price VCA was charging us (same quantity and dose). Not to mention VCA was insisting that we took our cat in for check ups, and tests regularly in order for us to re-order our meds (for arthritis) and their only suggestion to deal with our senile elderly cat's caterwauling was to put her in another room (this is Vancouver, what other room?) at night or have her see a feline therapist. We're now getting better care for our cat at a much more reasonable price.

  • Ella De Torres

Wanted to bring our cat in for suspected UTI and GI issues. They were able to see us the very next day. Dr. V explained his thought process for tests and the elimination process to figure out what was going on, in enough detail so we could follow what was happening. Given lots of time to decide what tests we wanted to do (no pressure). Very gentle and caring handling of our scaredy cat. They followed-up each day after our visit to check how she was doing, prepared pain medication to give her, and called promptly to give results of urine tests. All in all, great service and very caring and knowledgeable staff!

  • Nadia Grunwell

I had no idea that a corporation now owns Animal Wellness. Dr Kramer has a great reputation, but it's impossible to see her. A while ago, its reputation was built on the integrity and vision of Dr Goldberg, and I had visited him once with my labrador. The clinic appealed to me because they took a holistic approach. That apparently has long since past. How disappointing that they now have two hard working vets, but who offer no knowledge of anything but the traditional approach. The clinic also charges top prices. Why? When they are just the same as every other clinic in town.

  • Meagan Torelli

We were lucky enough to stumble upon VCA as our first vet in Vancouver. Their service is exceptional and we could not be happier with the care that they provide our little guy (dog). VCA always offer us multiple options for care and treatment. We have even been offered a payment plan when times are tough. I really cannot say enough good things about VCA. I've never met a dog who loves going to the vet as much as ours does - he is so happy and equally important, he is very healthy. Thank you VCA for always treating us and our little man so well.

  • Chris Revell

We have been thoroughly impressed with the service received by Dr. Goldberg and the rest of the staff at Vancouver Animal Wellness Hospital. Our preference is towards the holisitic approach to veterinary medicine, however, having the option for both in one place is perfect. They have always been prompt to follow up and check in following our visits via phone when the situation warranted it. Relative to other vets that we have tried in the past, the fees are completely in line and the quality of service received is well above average.

  • Edgar Perez raygoza

I am so sad, this place is an awful one, my dog had an emergency right in the morning, and the receptionist told us to drive all the way there, she said she was going to help us as soon as we get to the hospital. When we arrive she told us “we do not have any spots available now, you can wait in your car to see if we get an spot for this evening, or you can comeback tomorrow” I don’t understand why she made us drive all the way there to tell us that as soon as we arrived. That’s is mean she just didn’t care! Horrible woman

  • Rachel Yapp

The staff here are fantastic. Being the first time owner of a puppy comes with a level of neuroticism but they will tell you if they don’t think your met requires emergency attention, and I really appreciate that. Really makes me trust that they care more about my pets health than profiting from emergency fees. Also, when my pup has been there, she has been returned to me in a very happy mood so it shows they really know how to put your pet at ease. I’m very grateful to live so close to such a great service provider.

  • bysharona

My dog used to stress, cry and try to escape the vet clinic I used to take him to. So I found him a new vet and saw a dramatic difference right away. He doesn't mind walking into the Vancouver Animal Wellness Clinic himself and hops on the scale right away and is pretty chill for his whole visit. They have a very calm and relaxing environment and great staff. Dr. Kramer is very patient and thorough and has been a wonderful vet for my dog.

  • Carissa Thomas

We've taken our little kitty to this vet for both routine visits and also unfortunately for an emergency where he ended up needing surgery. The staff here is so kind and provides as much information as possible on every action they take, through very difficult and stressful times they were communicative, accommodating and compassionate. I would recommend them to anyone who wants the best care for their pets!

  • Tim

My dog Gryff was here a few times for different reasons late in his life. I wish I had started coming sooner, the front desk staff is so friendly.. the techs and vets are first class. I put him to rest in their clinic and I couldn’t have felt better about the whole situation, I’m heartbroken to lose him but they made him so comfortable and made me feel at ease too. I’m very grateful for you all.

  • annabel kershaw

I love this vet clinic. My dog has had a lot of health issues, especially when she was younger and they have given phenomenal care. She loves going there and everyone treats her with so much love and affection. It's a shame if their patient roster is full and they aren't taking new pets but I have heard this is an issue everywhere - similar to family doctors - we need more vets in the city.

  • Kristen Schreiner

We transferred over to VAWH and have so far been blown away by the honesty, accountability and sincere customer service! Our dog (an 8 year old rottie lab rescue) had to undergo a minor surgery, and they took amazing care of her and gave us regular updates about her status. After every appointment, they follow up just to make sure everything is going ok. Highly recommend this office!

  • Michael Glaser

Our beloved Jack Russell Terrier was afflicted with Inflammatory Bowel Disease for her entire life and the care, love and attention she got from the VCA team was unparalleled and of the absolute highest quality - we could not ever have asked for more. At the end, the kindness, compassion and empathy were heartfelt. They are an amazing group of people and would always recommend them.

  • BuildGreenCanada

they have the "caring thing" well practiced but they prescribed my 13 year old golden retriever harsh drugs for newly developed seizures. Barbiturates and other very expensive drugs that turned him into a zombie. I tried it for a week then weaned him off the drugs slowly and had him back with us, aside from a few seizures. better than the drugs. minimize the vet trips

  • S Noetzel

I was so impressed by the calm and compassionate treatment of my dog today. My dog is anxious at the vet, but they were able to keep him calm and the benches they have in the examining room where you can sit with your dog is ingenious. I was happy with the treatment and had a lot of confidence in the vet and the staff. I highly recommend this wellness hospital.

  • Rob Brownridge

We have been very happy with the care, follow ups and reminders at VCA’s East Broadway @ Quebec location. We joined the Care Club for our puppy. We pay $100 per month, which saved us about $400 this first year. It includes regular checkups, all the vaccinations & shots (except for Leptospirosis), spaying/neutering, and nail trims (we go every 3 weeks for that).

  • Violet Wilson

Great experience at this clinic. The receptionist was kind and helpful, the vet tech was great at handling my squirmy cats, and Dr Shea gave my pets his full attention and a thorough, thoughtful exam. The front desk staff followed up quickly to answer my questions and sent records for my insurance. I will be coming back again for my kitty’s dental procedure.

  • Sepehr Abedini Rad

We've visited Dr. Kramer and Dr. Goldberg (Who has since retired) and could not be happier with their help. Our puppy had a very complicated health issue which they properly helped explain to us, went over all of the options and contacted us multiple times afterwards to follow up. Highly recommended. They truly treat your pet as if it was their own.

  • Brendan McAra

Wonderful staff and amazing doctors. Dr. Marius was the first vet I met in Vancouver and made me feel very welcome to this city. The front staff are always a pleasure to talk to whether I am a client or calling from my own clinic! All of the technicians are amazing at their jobs and always make me feel calm when they take care of Rose.

  • Trevor Robinson

My dog Eva was diagnosed with lymphomasarcoma I know big word word right but doctor.O was amazing she laid out every thing out was super gentle very knowledgeable and gave me the best guidance with medications and choices moving forward with treatment/end of life decisions Thanks you so much for putting me at easy with the worst news.

  • MagS

Just moved to Vancouver and my dog is still back home about to make a move.He was JUST (i hang up the phone with my vet back home) diagnosed with diabetes so i quickly left work and run here to find out the price of the glucose measuring device. I was told they CAN'T give me the price because i was not a part of the clinic......

  • Meg Meg

This location has some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They were extremely kind, caring, informative, communicative and went the extra mile to keep me well informed and comfortable through the entire process of my dogs surgery. Thank you to everyone for taking such incredible care of Duke!!!! ❤️

  • Sasha Torchinsky

I am currently launching a formal investigation with VCA Canada into Vancouver Animal Wellness. I believe that they are overcharging and providing improper care to animals. DO NOT trust them and DO NOT take your animal here expecting any sort of decent care. Hopefully they will be shut down soon.

  • Shay Kelly

I have been a long time client with this clinic and on numerous occasions have been gouged for services. It's so hard to find a good vet these days. Dr. Kramer and Henry are the only ones I would see here. This is a corporation so beware this place will price gouge you.

  • Bonnie Hammond

Absolutely top notch service. The Dr was kind and understanding, the techs were just so lovely. My fur babies being sick is just the worst and having an understanding vet and staff just makes ALL the difference. I'm so happy I brought my baby here.

  • Annalise W

Insanely overpriced, never in my 10+ years of working in the animal care field have I ever been so incredibly ripped off. Their price was double what I would have paid elsewhere, and believe me I asked around, sadly I did so after the fact...

  • Crystal Hoggard

A friend recommended this vet office and I continue to recommend them! They’re honest and so helpful. Visits are reasonably priced and they’re conservative with proposed treatments. So friendly and professional. My dog actually likes going!

  • Paula Mendoza

I always trust my dog Leon is in good hands. Dr. Kramer is amazing and I cannot thank her enough for giving my dog the recommendations and treatments he needs. The technicians and reception team are all so kind and helpful as well.

  • Brayln Poirier

Had a really good experience at VCA recently when I had to bring in my cat, who ended up needing to be put down. The staff was prompt and respectful, the whole process was thoughtful and overall great considering the situation.

  • Kayla

We have had a few hick ups with our puppy over the past year and are so grateful for the treatment and care that Dr. Henry and Dr.Kramer have shown Ella. Highly recommend them as your home vet - I trust them completely!

  • Tasha Court

All-around best staff and veterinarians I have come across in 10 years. My little guy who suffers from severe anxiety when going there was still handled with such care and we left knowing he’s on the road to recovery.

  • M “LS. Deezer”

everyone in there is wonderful just stay clear of the russian/eastern European guy. he completely ignored what I said was the problem and tried getting me to send my puppy to surgery for a problem that doesn't exist.

  • Frederique Morel

Dr V was excellent, he saved my cat where other vets couldn’t. Great Diagnosis and communication. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Prices are high but prices are high everywhere, here it’s for good services!

  • Kelly Argue

Absolutely amazing vet. Dr. Kramer is exceptional. The entire experience was so supportive and proactive with helping our reactive dog. We love that they provide Eastern and Western style medical services.

  • Senora Noh

The staff are very patient with my reactive dog, and they treat him well. Dr.Henry and her team nursed my dog to health and I would recommend this clinic to everyone because of that.

  • Yoram Adler

It's our vet in Vancouver. Jack's been going there since he was a puppy so over nine years now. Dr. Kramer is also a TCM Vet so you have alternatives to Western Veterinary protocols.

  • Jeff Summers

The best vet I have used in Vancouver. Used many different vets for my two dogs, but they are always professional and friendly here. And the dogs actually wait by the door to go in.

  • Agnes Lai

Staff at the clinic usually called the next day after visit to make sure the pet was fine or needed anything. Vets also made their time to call pet parent to answer their questions.

  • Tessa Bohn

We've had an awesome experience here with our pup. They answer all of our questions thoroughly and are positive about a raw food diet which we appreciate. They treat our pup great!

  • Gale S.

Got me an appointment fast, were quick and non judgemental which I appreciate. Did not feel like they were too pushy to sell medications and procedures. Overall would recommend.

  • Looks Whosetalkin

Recent staff changes are very disappointing. New veterinarian gave me advice that made my dog worse. Couldn't reach the alternate veterinarian who was supposed to be available.

  • Katrina Anne-Marie

I switched to them from a very pricey Yaletown vet and WOW I'm blown away by how great this place is. Both the vets and staff are super knowledgable, professional and caring!

Great service. Take good care of my pug. Accommodating in an emergency. Thoughtful about the whole care of my pet. Dr V and the team are really sweet and caring.

  • Stephanie Ward-Mackay

Dr. Shea and the whole staff were amazing, communicative and helped a stressful situation for both me and my Cat as comforting and easy as possible.
